My ex fiance and myself toured the winery and put down a five hundred dollar deposit for our wedding day which at that time, was over a year away. A couple months later, sadly, the wedding was called off. Understanding that the deposit was non refundable, I emailed the winery asking them if I were to find another buyer could I transfer over the deposit? They ignored me. Later, I got a call from "Sell My Wedding" which is a company that takes weddings that have been called off and sells them as a package deal at a discount. This place felt so bad for my situation (I had moved all the way to Buffalo, NY for this engagement, left my company, etc.... only to have it go sour) that she agreed to do it for free! Isn't that cool? Check out the company if you find yourself in a similar situation.... Anyways, their job is to negotiate situations like this and I was told that she has never experienced anybody so rude as the coordinator at Freedom Run. We had found a customer and as far as I know, they may have taken my deposit and this other customers deposit (That I FOUND for them through the wedding company) and refunded me nothing. Now I get they are entitled to this, but it doesn't make it the right thing to do in this situation. They made more money off of me and considering that the happiest day of my life turned out to be devastating, you'd think they'd be able to help me out a little bit. I will never go back here again. I can't believe the way they treated me. If you are having a wedding here, I can't imagine how bad it would have gone if they were so inflexible on something like this.... read more

Great experience here. The owners and employees are knowledgable and very friendly. The place is gorgeous and the view...million dollar view. I would imagine weddings here and events are amazing. I can't wait to attend one. Even the food and appetizers that THEY make are fresh, not frozen. Looks delightful! Enough about that though, onto the wine. I think the wine here is unique and for someone like me, that's perfect. My favorites were a Pinot Noir with grapes from, let's call it, a rescued vineyard. It had a unique taste to it that I'm excited to revisit when I crack open my bottle. I also enjoyed the Apple Jack, it's a wine, but tastes more like an apple bourbon type hard liquor, with a bit more apple. There was also a cabernet ice wine that, to me, had buttery maple flavor in there, but there is no maple. It was great to taste two chardonnays made from the same grapes but a different process, the flavor is so different. I remember the one chardonnay is made in a steel cask(if I remember correctly) as opposed to wood, allowing the true flavor of the chardonnay itself--rich with minerals from the ground the grapes were grown in and very beautiful bouquet. P.s. when you check out, try the relish. I don't actually like any relish, this is hot and sweet red relish and it suprised me how good it is. read more

In my humble opinion this is hands down the best winery on the Niagara Wine trail! The wine is excellent and they have wine to suite all tastes. The building itself is absolutely beautiful! As strange of a thing to comment on, the bathrooms are super clean but also just beautiful! I love the details of this place.. The handmade ceramic sinks in the bathroom are lovely, the bar in the front is gorgeous and the view is amazing! There is definitely an artistic feel to this place that I love. They are also one of the only wineries on the trail to serve food. And let me tell you.. I have tried almost everything on the menu and it is all good! Kudos to the chief! I come here often with my family just to drink a bottle of the Niagara with lunch. This is one of our favorite places in Niagara County. read more

Stopped here on Saturday while doing a little wine tasting in the area. This place is really nice if you want to just sit down and relax a bit in the area while sipping some drinks.They have a nice patio in the back and along with some nice couches inside to rest upon. They also have a little bar area where they were pouring some beers. For the wine, I compared their two Pinot Noir and their Mertiages. All four excellent dry red wines. With my wife's tasting we partook in some of the sweet wines which were also good if you are into that sort of thing.Definitely a place with a relaxing vibe, I'll be back for sure. read more

total scam. My husband and I went to the Winery and had a fish fry three weeks ago. It was very good. He ordered beer and I had a wine flight. I also purchased a bottle of wine. We told our daughters how much we liked it, so they got us a $100 gift certificate to this Winery for our anniversary. We just got home from there. We ordered dinner and a bottle of wine. When we tried to use our gift card, we were told it was only for the winery but not restaurant. Nowhere on the premises is there a different name for the restaurant. When I inquired as to where the restaurant name was, I was told "outside." We looked on way out. No sign. The entrance sign of property only says "Freedom Run Winery." We had to use our credit card for the dinner which I didn't even like. I ordered a Ziti dish with steak. The steak was very over done. I told the server who just shrugged. I have to say that it was an amazing experience! The wine was better than I could of imagined. Freedom Run was recommended to us because we enjoy dry reds(they have all the wines that will support anyone's pallet). The dry reds were way above our expectations! The personal story really comes out in the wines. The passion for their wine making comes out in every tasting pour and they explain what went into that bottle of wine. The wines have oak, depth and character. Must visit!!!! read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. It is very spacious, clean and the staff are very knowledgeable. Even though it was later in the day and snowing, the view was also quite pretty. For my drink experience- I tried their Cabernet and Pino Noir choices. For the record, I like my reds dry, but fruity. The 2015 Pino did the trick, but the Cabernet was a bit to oak-y for me. I did also try a white but I can not remember which it was- not because it wasn't good, mostly because I was on my third :) . I am hoping to go back soon to try more. read more

I don't want to leave a bad review for winery because I LOVE me some wine, but my experience here was not good. My BF and I were cruising around Niagara "wine country" (I use that term loosely) in September. I strolled in not long after they opened on a Saturday (the BF stayed in the car). I was the only one there, so I figured I'd get some one-on-one attention from the staff. Nope. The gentleman behind the counter (young, thin, white guy) was busy stocking the bar. I approach the bar, expecting him to say "welcome, I'll be with you shortly." Instead, he ignores me and continues stocking while I stand there awkwardly for about a minute. I'm already annoyed. Then, without a smile or any introduction, he says "it's $5 for a tasting, which ones do you want?" And that, ladies and gentleman, was the extent of our conversation. He didn't say two words to me the entire time I was tasting. It was painfully quiet. In fact, he didn't even stop stocking the bar during my tasting. He could not be bothered. The whole point of having a TASTING room is so that you can interact with your customers, educate them on your wines, and SELL your product. I live in northern VA. I've been to probably 25 wineres in the area, plus a few in Napa, and this rude behavior is just not common or acceptable. *Tip: even ignoring the bad service, the wines were terrible. Go down the road to Eveningside Vineyards. Better wine, better service. read more

We were exploring the Niagara Wine Trail as part of an extended weekend trip. Finding Freedom Run Winery was the best part of the day! The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The winery is clean and beautifully decorated. We decided to stay for lunch, which was great outside on the porch looking out over the fields! The Beef on Weck Egg Rolls are unbelievably good!! Our trip was just a fun thing to do during our 21st wedding anniversary weekend. Unfortunately we were in the area on the same day as a special wine tour event. There were a lot of shuttles and limos, taking groups of RUDE 20-somethings around to the various wineries. (We started making it a point to avoid certain groups because of the rudeness and noise.) Even with all the chaos, the staff at Freedom Run made us feel welcome, and made sure we were being taken care. This was truly the highlight of a very long day. It is extremely unfortunate of my experience at Freedom Run. I actually enjoyed their wine and was planning on buying a few bottles until I asked the employee doing the tasting a few very general wine questions and they were extremely rude and snobby. When I walked out of the winery, I overheard another group complaining on how rude the employees were. I will not return or buy any of their wine in the local liquor stores in Buffalo. A good customer experience will make customers return, not the product itself. Also, it is probably good to mention that I was shopping for wedding venues on my tour, and I easily crossed Freedom Run off my list. read more

Had a great visit yesterday to Freedom Run Winery, a real jewel in the northern Niagara County wine growing region. First of all, it's located in a beautiful setting, vineyards stretching out toward the top of the Niagara Escarpment from the well-designed and very attractive tasting room located on the Escarpment's "bench". Their wine varieties reflect the Winery's dedication to well-crafted vitis vinifera - e.g., Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon. Anyone who enjoys good, quality wine and acknowledges that the Niagara wine growing region in Southern Ontario and Finger Lakes are, in fact, producing world-class wines has to visit Freedom Run (& Arrowhead Springs just up the Escarpment from Freedom Run). Freedom Run's wines are every bit as good as wines from both of those excellent regions and can stand up to wines produced in California, Washington, Oregon &, yes, Europe. So go to Freedom Run and see - and taste - what you've been missing. Very thankful that the Winery's COO Larry walked us through an excellent tasting of several of their beautiful offerings, but the special treat of going into their barrel room & tasting from a French oak barrel their amazing Appassimento that's still a few months away from bottling was a very special treat. I felt the same way as Sandra felt when I was touring venues for weddings. Freedom Run seemed like the perfect place, fire pit, barn, wine - what is there not to like? Unfortunately, quite a bit. Kris seemed like a great person to deal with at first, but is very difficult to get ahold of when you need her and seemed easy to work with but never gave you details that you needed until last minute. When you are planning a wedding - you think you know what you need but often forget about some details, it would have been nice for her to have questions for us up front. Another venue that we almost went with had a list of questions that we went through and was much more thorough and helpful (the venue was just not as pretty). At Freedom run, there was a few staff members that came off as very snobby and did not seem very helpful. Their bar package was seemingly inexpensive, but then you also have to pay for bar tenders on top of the normal bar package (which should be included in the price as it was at all other venues we visited). The one star out of the five is for one of the girls helping set up was the nicest girl and helped out a ton - the other two that we paid for to help were somewhat useless unless you guided them around the whole time. We made sure to tip her well. Oh that reminds me - they charged us 18% gratuity on the venue rental even though it is a non-taxable item that we had to prepare. I will say the venue is beautiful and I really truly loved my wedding there - the people were just horrible to deal with making it a nightmare to coordinate and plan. As far as the wine goes - I enjoyed it quite a bit (that is what the other star is for). Oh one last thing - the caterer left heating boxes and utensils there. I went to pick them up and the people at the winery had just shoved all of the extremely dirty utensils inside of the large cooler like box causing a horrible rotting food smell that we had to clean up before returning to the caterer. I was not happy with that - I am not sure why they didn't wash them or put them in a bag or one of the totes we left there so it didn't make a mess of the container. read more

I had my wedding recently at Freedom Run Winery. Evan (Special Events Coordinator) is a ray of sunshine, so smart and easy to work with. Anita (The other coordinator) is very sweet and willing to help with anything and always follows up when she says she will. The bartenders for the wedding were amzing. The view is amazing and photographs amazing. The barn is so easy to make look beautiful in several different styles. The tasting room and adjoining barrel room are also beautiful. I am so happy I chose to have my wedding at this beautiful location. They really let you do a lot with the space which really doesn't need a lot of decoration. Everyone loved the unique venue and wonderful wines. read more
