    Strawberry Crunch French Toast
    Tiffany Y.

Bennie's 9 Diner is in the former Freedom Square Diner location. It is a casual restaurant that is family-owned by Ben, his wife, and children. The menu lists breakfast foods (e.g., avocado toast, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, omelets, pancakes, waffles, and eggs Benedict) and lunch foods (e.g., salads, soups, and sandwiches). My husband and I ate brunch here on a busy Saturday morning, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. The waitress spoke nicely with us, but she forgot to bring my orange juice. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Strawberry Crunch French Toast - 5 stars - French toast was topped with strawberry cream cheese, strawberries, whipped cream, and crunchy sprinkles. It tasted very sweet. Sausage Biscuits and Gravy - 3.5 stars - My husband ate most of this entree. He said that the gravy was "different" than what he was used to, but that he liked it. He described the biscuits as "good." Chopped Cheese Sandwich with Onion Rings - 4 stars - My husband ate this sandwich. He described the sandwich as "fine," and he said that he liked the inside ground beef but that it was messy and fall apart and made the bottom bun soggy. This sandwich also contained American cheese, onions, and lettuce. (No tomatoes at my husband's request.) The total price of these foods plus a Pepsi was $39 plus tax and tip.

The old Freedom Square Diner has re-opened under new management as Bennie's 9 Diner. I came here with a friend for Saturday breakfast / brunch. Lots of different menu choices depending on what you are in the mood for, especially decadent waffles / pancakes for those with the sweet tooth. I got shrimp and grits which (IMO) tastes like the real deal you get down South. Very creamy, with plenty of heat and savory in the dish. My friend got The Classic Breakfast (eggs, meat, and potatoes combo) with a pancake. The pancake was huge, but he said the potatoes were better than the old place. Especially appreciate that this is a family business, with the 9 referring to the parents and their seven children (you'll see this theme painted on the walls inside). Great service too, highly recommend.

I hate rating this diner so low, since I used to frequent here a while ago (when it was branded Freedom Diner) with my dad, and then the food was amazing. When we ate here today, we were disappointed by how bland all of our food was. I ordered a mushroom burger, and there were barely any mushrooms, and my fries came unsalted. The coffee was generic as well. For the price they were charging, the food is not worth it at all. I feel terrible rating such a low review, because the waiters here have always been some of the sweetest and most caring in the area. What I really did not like, which solidified me never returning for a while, is the AI generated art they hang on the wall. Simply put, it just does not look nice, and with the amount of money they charge for the food, they are more than capable to commission a genuine artist. The murals on the wall look hand painted, so they definitely have the capacity to actually support artists rather than feeding a machine our water supply and poisoning the air from the towns that have to produce these inhumane data centers. Its such a shame, because I remember in the past when this franchise was Freedom Diner, they had the painting "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper which me and my dad would admire and discuss the beauty and the contrast of the piece while we ate our meal. Now while we ate at Bennie's 9 Diner, we sat down making fun of the inconsistencies in the Ai generated painting. This is more than just about art, it is the experience you are taking away from guests as well. There is no human soul in anything AI generated, and nothing to admire about it.

Cheese grits and part of my husbands HUGE breakfast.

Service was slow and food so so. The French toast was soggy and corned beef lacked flavor. The wait staff however was pleasant.

I wanted to go on a food journey here and was looking for some guidance, I wanted only their best items and Sarah at the counter was awesome! She helped guide me through their bakery, their main course meals and even find some yummy Italian like pretzels for the hummus I wanted to get and overall was just a very nice lady, I wish more restaurants had people like her working with customers! Finally to the food, I ordered the oat & carrot waffles, a brioche pastry and bought some hummus and Italian pretzels from their mini market! Overall, really good stuff! My only gripe is the waffle isn't crunchy at all and feels really more like a cake. The flavor was on point, especially with the yummy Carmel sauce it came with! The brioche pastry with raspberries was incredible as well! Lastly, the hummus was outstanding!! Get it. It's worth it! Overall this place is a must visit in my mind! If you're in the area, try it!

This coffee shop is located in a strip mall right off Freedom Road in Cranberry. It is a single lane drive thru only, so there is not much to say about the setup itself. For coffee on this morning I decided to go with a hot Magic Coffee, which the menu describes as coffee, cream, and honey. This was actually the second time I ordered it, as my first visit I believe I went with a coconut latte. The Magic Coffee here is interesting. The coffee itself has a good flavor, and I really enjoy how it pairs with the honey and how that honey flavor carries through the finish. The mouthfeel is what really stands out to me. It is a bit unusual and feels like a combination of silky and slightly oily, which I do not think I have experienced in a drink before. That said, it is not a bad thing at all, especially considering I have now ordered it multiple times. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoy the coffee here, and it is convenient to places we frequently visit on the weekends.

Owned by longtime locals John and Melanie Dober, it positions itself as a warm, community-focused spot blending upscale comfort food with a welcoming vibe--think handcrafted sandwiches, premium Black Angus steaks, fresh seafood, flatbreads, and daily specials, all with thoughtful wine and bourbon selections. We were excited for what promised to be a polished neighborhood gem, and in many ways, it delivered. The food was genuinely great and the clear highlight. Our dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and creative without being fussy--fresh ingredients shone through, portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and beautifully plated. It's easy to see why so many reviewers rave about the crab cakes, steaks, and chef specials; the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. This is elevated American fare that feels special yet approachable, and we'd happily return just for the meals. That said, a few aspects fell short and left us feeling the overall experience wasn't quite as seamless as the food deserved. First and foremost, the billing transparency issue was disappointing. They add a 3% bank/credit card processing fee to the check (which adds up quickly on a family dinner), but this isn't disclosed on the menu, at the table, or in any obvious way during the ordering process. There's only a small sign posted outside the restaurant. We only noticed it when the bill arrived, and it felt like an afterthought rather than a clear policy. In an era where many restaurants are upfront about surcharges (or absorb them), this lack of disclosure came across as sneaky and detracted from the otherwise positive value perception. The atmosphere was another mixed bag. The space itself is attractive--soft lighting, comfortable seating, and that friendly "upscale brew pub" energy the owners aim for. However, it was noticeably noisy during our evening visit. Conversations required raised voices, especially as the dining room filled up, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal fully. OpenTable rates the noise as "moderate," but on our night it tipped louder than that, possibly due to the layout or lack of sufficient sound absorption. A bit more attention to acoustics could make a big difference. Service was mostly attentive and efficient, but the management interaction stood out in a negative way. When we politely mentioned the surprise fee at the end of the meal, the response was an apology that felt scripted and insincere--like it had been delivered many times before without real follow-through or ownership. It didn't leave us feeling heard or valued as guests. On a brighter note, the owners John and Melanie genuinely come across as lovely people. The restaurant has that personal, homegrown touch you can sense even when they're not physically present, and locals speak highly of them. They were absent during our nighttime visit, though, which is understandable for owners juggling a busy operation--but their warmth is missed when the front-of-house team is handling everything solo. In summary, Wexford Public excels where it matters most: the food is consistently excellent and worth the trip on its own. The family-owned charm and diverse menu make it a strong neighborhood choice for special occasions, casual dinners, or even happy hour in the cocktail bar. However, clearer communication about the credit card fee (ideally on the menu or bill upfront), better noise management, and more authentic handling of guest concerns would elevate it from very good to outstanding. We'll likely go back for the cuisine, but with tempered expectations on the finer details. If you're in the Wexford area and prioritize great American plates, it's still a solid recommendation--just check the small print before you pay.
