Ok, we started on Rt 28, crossed New Kensington Bridge, and went a ways and arrived at the large gravel parking lot. When entering the restaurant, a sign is prominently displayed regarding being short-staffed and asking for patience. I really liked the John Wayne memorabilia and cast iron Conestoga Wagon. I believe the waitresses outnumbered the cooks, BUT our orders were correct, AND all food served at once. We started with hot cheese bites & gouda/bacon/mac n cheese balls. The hard-core hot cheese bites people moved to the other team. Pulled pork, turkey with gravy & mashed potatoes, fish on a dish, & chicken wings were ordered. Everyone was satisfied with their meals - clean plate club. The coleslaw would have been better with just oil, vinegar, salt, & pepper. We all left full. Nice family environment. While in town we came here twice. Our first visit we came for Fish Sandwiches on a Friday. The place was packed. The atmosphere reminds me of a typical diner with camping and wildlife decor. We ordered fairly quickly and waited longer than typical for our food. My husband did order the sandwich and loved it. Last minute I changed to the shrimp scampi, which was so good I planned to get it the second night. Instead I got chicken salad because they ran out of scampi. Everything about the Bonfire is a little redneck. If that doesn't bother you, then you will enjoy the atmosphere. They advertise the best fish sandwich in the AK Valley. In my opinion, that statement ls true. The service is down home getter done! They have a bar downstairs, so you can order an alchohol beverage if that's your thing. Wow. Waited 1.5 hours for a table. Then another 45 for our food. Fish sandwich was decent nothing worth going out of your way for or waiting that long for. Place was busy but service was slow. We picked up two fish sandwiches for take out yesterday. Way too expensive for what it is. The fish sandwich itself was fine, nothing special, but not terrible. We were shocked to find that when we picked up our sandwiches, it was $30.00 for two sandwiches. This did not include any sides, just fish on a hamburger bun. We did get cheese on it (which I'm sure was an upcharge), but $15.00 for a sandwich is outrageous for this area. We're not in NYC. We will not be returning. read more

What happened here?? For many years, the Bonfire was our favorite place to go for a hearty breakfast with great friendly servers. Sadly that is not the case anymore. The servers and kitchen staff seem to change like the weather but even more disappointing is the quality and portion size of the food. At our recent "last chance" visit, the ham and egg breakfast was served with a piece of ham that was shaved so thin that you could nearly see through it. Oh how I would love to see the owner's reaction if HE was ever served a portion like this. Please, I would rather be charged a bit more for a meal if it helped keep employees happy and kept the chipped ham off the breakfast menu. read more

I really like the western decor and the pictures of John Wayne. I had the famous fish sandwich which they have sold over 1.5 million it was really big and tasty. It was $9.29 but didn't come with fries. They do have the most expensive chicken wings I've seen at 11.89 a half dozen and over $20.00 a dozen. First time visitor. Cute old school place with lots of mounted animals and other momentous . Went for lunch and had a dank club sandwich and fries , very tasty. Also tried the rodeo burger which was big and filling . Staff were super helpful and very nice to everyone. Looks like they do breakfast all day as well . This is our second time dining here. First time I was not impressed. We recently returned about 2 years later. Service was good. We had an attentive young lady. The appetizers are a little expensive. 4 cheese sticks for $6 I believe. They were your typical frozen bought sticks. I tried the famous fish sandwich this time. It was definitely huge but lacked seasoning I thought. The lettuce on it was rotten. It was average. We will go back but it won't be the top of the list. We may try the bar area next time. read more

Best breakfast in the area! They also have the best hot pepper cheese balls I've ever had. The restaurant has a beautiful view when you sit in the back and a rustic look throughout. Very comfortable environment for the whole family. Unfortunately I cant say the same for the bar, which is below the restaurant. I have always loved going to this restaurant until yesterday. The service was more than just rude. It bordered criminal, no greeting, no one asked us what we wanted to drink, no set up on table. We had to ask for everything; everyone after us was greeted, and asked drink preference. We did receive our soups and water and tea however; after 45 min, We decided it was time to exit. Most of the people that came in after us was eating or being explained why taking so long, we were not given that courtesy. I had a mishap with my water. We had to caught someone for a towel and then the dirty bowls with the wet napkins left on the table and no mention if i needed more water. It sad to think in 2019 the reason would have been that our common denominator wasn't the same as everyone in the restaurant. They all being caucasian and we were not. Fantastic Fish! Service leaves something to be desired though. The atmosphere and decor is a bit odd. The music playing is country (over an old school radio, not even commercial free through Internet, satellite or a CD). The decor is John Wayne pictures, covered wagons, Indians, taxidermy mounts and guns. They have a bar in the basement, which I've never been in. But, if you get past that, the food is awesome! The Bonfire serves up an absolutely killer fried fish sandwich! This thing is huge and tasty! Their French fries, onion rings and cheese sticks are also good. That's really all I've tried for dinner. I have dropped in a few times for breakfast and that was very good as well. They serve soft drinks and some alcoholic beverages. This is a place to go to indulge in fine fried cuisine, it's not a health food place. The waitress didn't know what table ordered what ,she came in waving the food asking who order whatever she was holding. Ask for boxes after twenty minutes another waitress ask if we needed boxes. No stars. Worst service ever. Ordered takeout, told it would be a half hour, went to pick up the food and was totally ignored for an hour at least. Finally talked to someone and they told us they didn't have an order for us. Called and asked for the manager to complain when we got home and was told by Patty "this restaurant was not for us if we couldn't wait and we should go somewhere else" ???!!!
