If you breakdown on a Friday and have a choice avoid this place like the plague. They have bankers hours. Close at 5 pm on Friday and don't open till Monday morning so you will pay storage fees. To keep this short. They illegally towed my van, pulled it onto a flatbed truck with the transmission locked. Would not give me my van unless I show proof of insurance after I got a release from the sheriff department. Illegal withholding of cash and professional tools - Violation of CVC 22651.07. I am filing this complaint against Freeway Towing Santa Clarita for their inconsistent and illegal practices. I presented my legal Bill of Sale (REG 262) and my Sheriff's release to retrieve my personal property. In a completely illogical move, they gave me my check and credit card because they were 'in my name,' but they REFUSED to give me my cash and over $1,000 worth of professional tools that were in the same place.By giving me the check, they already admitted that the property in the vehicle belongs to me. However, they are now illegally withholding my cash and my tools, which are my livelihood. According to California Vehicle Code 22651.07, a towing company must allow the retrieval of personal property without charge. They are using the 'name in the system' as an excuse to keep my belongings, even though I have the legal DMV documents. This is without mentioning the way they provided the service, telling me that what the sheriff says is what happens in his office and that the establishment's rules were independent of what the sheriff said. I understand things to a certain extent, but I don't think that's the professional way to respond. Now my cash, my house keys, and my tool are... That's because they don't have my name and my Reg 262 is not valid to prove that I am the owner of the property. This is a predatory practice and a violation of state law. This place is a scam. My car was stolen and the sheriffs recovered it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went to the tow yard to get my car but the office closed at 5PM.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then they told me I had to pay $247 bucks to get the car released. When I showed up the next day to get the car released and pay the fine. They then told me I had to also get a release form from the police by 2 PM or it was going to go from a one-day storage fee to a 2 day storage fee. By the time I got the form signed it was past 2 PM. They also told me if I use their locksmith he could go onto their property to make a fresh key. When I showed up the next day before 2 PM, they told me they couldn't release the car because it had outdated registration and I would have to pay them to have the car towed to my house and for 3 days of storage instead of two. The CHP came to help in our time of need. We were so relieved after a hit and run disabled our wheel. When Freeway Towing showed up after the CHP called, the driver was full of excuses as to why he couldn't transport us the 70 miles left on our 400 mile trip from Northern California to get to my mother's home. She had been hospitalized and we were driving through Valencia about midnight. This was the time a tow was most desperately needed. We are not from the area and had no one to call except a tow company. Nope. They wouldn't help. The driver said "this is a safe area. You'll be OK" in response to me saying "So, I'm supposed to just stay in my car until the morning (7 hours)?" It was my first accident ever and this tow yard definitely helped me learn a lot! Not in a positive way either! When I went to go see my car and retrieve my belongings the guy that escorted me to my car said "You can't take anything off your car" to which I replied "Okay." I started to grab my belongings, I disconnected my subwoofer and began removing my dashcam, when I started to do that he said "Oh you have to leave those in the car" I was confused because these are easily removed, essentially the same thing as removing my phone charger. I asked why? And he responded "you can't take anything that isn't a personal belonging" I was still confused and said that I was going to take them, he responded with "If you do I'll have to ask you to exit, you can ONLY take your belongings like ID's, Phone, Docs, etc." I didn't feel like arguing so I left them. Beware of fraudulent services that towed my car to their yard despite me providing the address where I wanted it to be taken. They did this in order to retain the car and charge excessive storage fees intentionally. It was due to an accident and my car wouldn't start, preventing me from moving it off the main street. They removed it and charged me an exorbitant amount for just one day. Be cautious and consider using alternative private companies. Move your car away from traffic and contact a different service provider instead of these scammers.
