Really crappy attitude. I've purchased high-end bikes from them and am a member of their Fanatic club. When I brought my fat bike in for tubeless tire swap they quoted me a time of 5 days. Today, five days later, since I had not heard from them, I called to check on the bike. They told me it was not ready and that it would be another 2 weeks. After some conversation they moved things up but the attitude over there is severely negative. Will definitely find another shop from here out. read more

I have a bike that lives with my daughter here in Minnesota. It developed a serious need of a professional bike mechanic. My bike is a very customized Trek 2nd District. I went to one bike shop who will remain nameless and they told me I would have to order new parts and that I should not expect my bike before August. It is June as I write this. Clearly that solution was not what I was hoping for. I took my bike to Freewheel. Oh my!!!! These folks fixed everything in just a few hours. To that end the mechanics have earned my ever lasting gratitude. Remember folks tip your mechanics well. They earned their due in my ledger. I'm a fan for life.... The wife and I went in to buy her a lightweight road bike so her riding speed would be closer to mine. We were about to plunk down Two Grand on a Trek Silque, when Will (who sold me my Trek fitness bike 6 years ago) suggested that she might want to take a look at the new Trek Verve+ e-bike. She rode away up the hill and came away thinking that this might just be the solution to our "variable speed issue". After thinking about it overnight, we went back the next day and plunked down Two Large for the bike, plus another couple hundred for a new bike rack (to hold the heavier bike) and the requisite auxiliary items (color-coordinating gear, of course). Now, you don't give a company 5 stars just because they're nice to you while they're upselling you. You do it because it was a very comfortable situation, with a free flow of information that inspired trust -- just as it did 6 years ago when I bought my bike here. I've been to several of the other bike shops in the area, but Penn Minnetonka has their act together. Kudos! read more

Friendly and helpful service! I brought my Trek bike in for a Spring tuneup. The staff thoroughly examined the bike to determine if any parts need to be replaced in addition to the tune up. The tune up was scheduled two weeks ahead (another shop was scheduling 4 weeks out). I was able to bring the bike home and bring it back the day before the tuneup day so I was without my bike only for 2 days. The work was done on time and was well done. At pickup the staff walked me through the repairs. read more

Came here wanting to test ride a bike a Trek FX2. The other locations were out in my size. Sure enough they had one available and after the ride I knew it was the bike for me. Associate was very helpful and adjusted the seat, and shifters to my liking. I ended up having the bike sent to the Roseville location for purchase because it is right down the street. But I was very impressed not only with their covid procedures but also their customer support. read more

We consistently have had great service with the staff. Have never purchased a bicycle here but have purchased most of our gear here. Helmets, bicycle bells, tires etc. They are knowledgeable amd very friendly. Love how they handled Covid and making sure everyone follows the rules. They have a great location and a nice size store. They are steady with 1-2 customers almost all day long. read more

I had an unfortunate experience with my Saris bike rack and bike beam purchased at Penn Cycle in Hopkins. I purchased both on April 28. I was in a car accident that totaled my car on May 27. The replacement car I bought doesn't work with the bike rack I bought. I hadn't taken the rack or beam out of their boxes. However, when I called and explained the situation they wouldn't return them because the 30 day return policy had expired. I would've had to return both products the day after my accident. I was very disappointed they wouldn't work with me. I offered to exchange for a rack that would work for my new car. The sales associate refused and told me I could try to sell it on Craigslist. I've had no luck with that so far. I'm not sure I would buy from them again. read more

I know Penn Cycle is like the conglomerate of bicycle shops but I'm a bicycle newbie so I'm taking small steps!! Once I get more familiar with traveling on two wheels I promise to visit and support local bike co-ops but I can't help that Penn Cycle was pretty close to where I live. And they had their own parking lot which will lure me in to ANYTHING. Lots of beginner bicycles were on sale (I'm not looking for a Lance Armstrong nut busting road bike) and the super nice sales guy didn't snub his nose when I basically said "I want the bike you advertised online that was on sale." Instead he brought out a similar model, taught me about shifting gears, using the breaks, and let me test ride it in the parking lot. I almost half expected him to be holding on to my seat and cheering me on like my dad. Since they didn't have the model I wanted in store, they ordered it from another store and I should be expecting it tomorrow. Hooray! Update: They forgot to ship my bikes (one for me and a present for my bf). So they were sold. Totally pissed. read more

In the past 5 years we have purchased 4 moderate to high end bicycles from Penn Cycle at the Minnetonka shop and this will be our last! Each purchase has proven more and more disappointing by the service. The staff no longer makes the purchase feel personal, they don't teach you any elements important about the bike, and Al is no longer the friendly 'small shop, with personal interest' guy. Instead, it seems to all be about the churn and they were unable to meet their promise dates two for two times, and followed up by failing to even call to let us know the bike and/or accessories were ready for pick up. :( read more

I stopped into Penn Cycle yesterday looking for replacement bolts for my SPD clips. Unfortunately, they didn't sell replacement kits but the guy behind the counter was nice enough to look around in the shop for a spare bolt. Luckily for me, he had a spare laying around and offered it to me at no cost. It was a nice gesture and I really appreciated the friendly help! I will definitely stop in there when looking for a new bike this spring. read more
