The Capitol Corridor train is the most convenient and enjoyable way to commute to/from Sacramento. Trains headed to Sac generally pick up on the longer "Track 1" (possibly no signage?) directly adjacent to the historic building with the waiting room, cafe, and large covered porch. You'll be able to see the train approaching and will know if you're in the right place. $35 one way, unreserved seating. Tickets can be purchased online, in the app, or from the kiosk in the station. Watch for the prime table spaces to open on the train's upper decks for the nicest ride.

"Oh I swear to ya, tried to be there for ya / This is not a drive-by-y-y-y-yy." ~ inspired by Train I'm not usually inspired by Train, but this is an exception. In my fondest dreams, I roll up to the designated area by the curb, enabling my waiting passenger(s) to jump into my car as I peel out (in a classy manner) for a swift getaway. This station is a killjoy. It's not the most convenient -- you won't be able to swoop by for a pick-up. Intsead, you have to pull into the parking lot of an auto body shop and make sure you stay out of the way of the cars coming and going for repairs. A car nearly backed into mine as I waited to enter the parking lot. On the plus side, your passenger(s) can dine at the Depot Cafe right by the parking lot while waiting for you. This may NOT be to your advantage if you want to get out of there quickstyle! TIP: Check Google maps first. It'll help you find the parking lot. Otherwise be prepared to drive back and forth over the tracks. Ga-dunk-dunk, ga-dunk-dunk.

Instant noodles for $1.50 @ the Amtrak train Cafe. You can get warm brrakfast at a reasonable price.

Despite the agirt train ramp, which I think is the reason why the Capital Corridor only opens on either car 2 or 1 & 2 only, the Amtrak is a great option for commuters. You can seat comfortably, there are convenient amenities(I.e. Electric outlets, Free wi-fi, clean Restrooms, Cafe, Reclining chairs, dimmed up cars).

Plus you get parking right up next to the train car. The parlor car offered spacious, comfortable seating, VIP time with Santa Claus, a hot adult beverage, or nonalcoholic version, bottled water, snacks, Christmas cookies, and a great narrative of the ride. You're also allowed to walk the length of the train, but you need to have a wristband so you can get back into the parlor car area. Be prepared for lots of traffic as you drive to the train station from other parts of the Bay Area. Traffic is bad during the winter if not always. The train leaves right on time so you do not want to be late. Also, the railroad provides very detailed and helpful instructions about how to get to the depot and how to navigate the parking and other systems. They have outside train cars and inside train cars so you can choose what type of seat you want. This is definitely been worth the money and should become a holiday.

NOTE TO EVERYONE: I originally wrote this review on February 26, 2010, but in its infinite wisdom,…read moreYelp decided, years after I had written the review, to make it a review of the Fremont BART Station, which I've never been to or used. So here's my rightful FtR, five years later. Enjoy. By the way, I have had to wait for the Orange Line, quite often actually. And it has annoyed me. But it's still three stars. ============= I'm pretty mad at myself for not having reviewed individual BART lines sooner. When I was in Southern California earlier this year, a server at one of my parents' favorite restaurants was excited to learn that I live in San Francisco and often ride BART. When she found out that I work in Berkeley, she talked about her two daughters; one goes to St. Mary's, and the other is interested it going to Cal. She was so excited about BART, and it made me adopted-homesick. And then she talked about knowing that to get from San Francisco to Moraga "you take the Yellow Line," and she was shocked when I told her that no one refers to them by the colors of the lines on the BART map. But I have an admission to make: Even though I know the actual names of the lines, I do think of them in terms of their colors. I've always done this, but I've never told anyone. And there was always kind of a logic in my mind. Red and Yellow go to the northern part of the East Bay, while Blue and Green go to the southern part. Orange goes in between. OK, so maybe that doesn't make any sense, but in my mind it does. So I like the Richmond-Fremont Line, especially when it's waiting there at either the 12th Street or MacArthur Stations to complete my journey to Berkeley or home to San Francisco. And it usually is waiting there. In fact, in the six years I've been taking BART off and on, I've only had to wait for a connecting train four or five times, and only once have I had to wait more than five minutes. Why three stars? Well, I really wish they would run longer trains on this line. I catch it toward the middle of the line, so the four- or five-car trains are often jam-packed. The cars themselves seem dirtier or at least in poorer condition than their counterparts on the longer-distance lines. I may be imagining all of this, but then I also imagine that this is actually called the Orange Line, and that hasn't been a problem for me so far.
