I spoke with the mechanic who explained it was a connection problem with my wastegate actuator, he had told me the ports that connect the two together was broken and the whole part needed to be replaced because it was not connecting properly. He unplugged the wastegate actuator to show me as well. It was a 700$ fix so I took it home for my family to look at, When my family looked at my car they saw that he never actually plugged my wastegate actuator back in, and when my family plugged it in my car worked perfectly. My mom's truck had to get a tire balance as well as an alignment; luckily Fremont Auto Works was able to do both. The prices here are reasonable and were even able to find out why the steering wheel was still vibrating after the balancing and alignment were done. I don't typically leave reviews, but looking back I have been coming to Ben for the past few years for my auto issues - oil change, tire rotation/alignment, some bumper problem, trunk problem and maybe other things I can't remember. Despite his busy schedule, we are always treated with a smile and respect, and he always makes the process very easy and smooth. This time round I needed my tires aligned fast before my road trip next week. Ben was reluctant at first to book me in last minute due to his busy schedule, but was nice enough to slot me in and agreed to work on it during downtime. Dropped my car off early in the morning and sure enough, just a few hours later I got a call saying it's ready. He handed us the paper with the technical tire degrees and the usual stuff, this time with a box of cookies too for holiday! Though what made the experience this time especially memorable was the fact that my goofy butt managed to lock myself out of the other car I came with, and that after explaining to Ben the situation, he spent some time helping us unlocking the car from the outside. He somehow managed chatting/keeping us comfortable, responding to his calls from other customers, and working on unlocking the car essentially all at once. Ben honestly saved us so much headache. Super grateful that he was willing to help us out there. 5/5 for all the past encounters and especially this one. No idea why this place has so many 5* reviews, but my first impression of this place was terrible. Came in to get my AC fixed, and they did a very sloppy job. They left a hose loose under my hood, and it blew off just 1 day after I got my car back, splattering AC coolant all over the engine. In addition I got a new check engine light, which I discovered came from leaving the fuel cap hanging open. They did rectify all these problems will no additional charge, but I will not be returning. read more

Wow, I can't believe I haven't updated this review in 14 years. In that time, I've changed my car three times, but every time I've had an issue, Ben is THE guy! What I think makes Ben stand out as a mechanic is that he listens to you! He wants to know about the onset of the car problem, your description of the issue, the sounds your car is making, etc. And by the time you've told him your story, and he's asked a few clarifying questions, he has a few diagnoses to share. I love that he actually takes the time to explain what he thinks the problem is, in layman's terms, and why he thinks xyz will fix the issue or help in the diagnostic process. He's transparent and honest - still incredibly rare qualities to come by in a mechanic, and let's be honest - in a human. Whenever a friend asks me about a mechanic I'd recommend, that's Fremont Auto Works. Full stop. No need to look any further. Well worth any bridge toll fee and exorbitant fuel prices for the level of peace of mind that Ben offers me. There hasn't been a problem that he can't fix! They recently moved, but don't worry - it's still the same general place, just down the alley toward the back. The new place looks bigger, and has a bigger front desk to handle all the customers. I think there are a few more parking spaces too! Both Ben and Tiffany are excellent at customer service - prompt phone calls back if they don't answer on the first ring. Unfortunately, she broke a starter bolt, complicating matters beyond her skill. Fremont Auto Works said the repair would be rather involved, and gave her a fair bid. Brought my 2016 Porsche Cayenne GTS here for oil change (about $150), had oil leak due to leaking head gasket, which was changed out to a new head gasket as well (estimate was $800). Owner Ben uses OEM parts, is honest, reliable, professional, communicates well his plan to you, even texts you pictures of updates and problem areas. His wife Tracy is awesome as well and helps run the shop smoothly. Ben's shop is way cheaper than the Porsche dealership and at the same level of craftsmanship and service. (Just posted this exact same review on Google, in case you run into that one. This place deserves 5 star ratings on all the platforms) There's a reason this place is nearly 5 stars!! Did a pre-purchase inspection today for a potential used car purchase. $120 bucks saved me minimum $3000 worth in repairs that the car desperately needed! (NEVER skip your PPI, folks!) I called Thursday afternoon to ask if there was any chance he could squeeze a PPI in on Saturday. He said sure! He was able to fit me in at 11 am. He advised that it might take 1.5-2 hours given that Saturdays are always busy. After only 75 minutes, he texted me 9 pictures of serious issues with the vehicle. The vehicle performed poorly at freeway speeds, and after lifting up the car he had found a slew of expensive issues. He hadn't even bothered formally pricing the repairs, they were so high -- minimum of 3-4k. He advised that I pass on the vehicle. He did *not* try to pressure me to buy the car and then use his shop to make all those costly repairs! Super super nice! Fantastic service! Very quick! Great pricing for PPI! If I try to buy a used car in Fremont again I'll definitely go back. read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE! CUSTOMERS BEWARE! CUSTOMERS BEWARE! I have been to this shop several times, but my experiences have been getting worse each time. I brought my Toyota Rav4 in to have a major service done: all four brake pads and rotors, all four corners of the suspension, and an oil change. As I got the car back, my brakes were squealing worse than before. This shouldn't have happened after a major service, but unfortunately was the case. I drive a semi long commute across the bay and was hoping my car would be in good shape as it was daily driven, but I guess this shop feels like that is too much to ask for. They use the cheapest non-OEM parts to save here and there(might be more economical for the customer), but the result is now that squealing noises appear during light braking under 10 mph. I even specifically told them I am willing to pay extra for decent OEM parts, but that means they would lose out on $$ if I won't bring my car in for service that often. The second time I was there, they mentioned my brakes were squealing, so I thought it needed to be changed soon. The last time I was here, the lady in the front mentioned that their mechanics told them the brakes were at 50% still and said a replacement was not needed. If they had communicated or called me, I would have waited until a replacement was needed, but they went ahead and changed all the brake pads and rotors so they could make a few extra bucks. I paid for it cause all the work was done, a honest shop would not pull this trick. The kicker? I had asked them to rotate my tires on two separate visits and even paid for the service on the last visit, and of course they didn't manage to rotate it when they had to take it off and replace the whole suspension also. When I went to go pay for the bill because all the other work was done, the lady in the front even mentioned that they rotated it and had the galls to lie to my face. That was the final straw for me, charging me for a service that was not completed and the reason I can't trust this shop anymore. I will be replacing my tires at Costco and taking my business elsewhere that does not prey on customers. I really wanted to give them a chance and the benefit of the doubt, but it is unfortunate that they felt the need to trick customers who do not know much about cars. They are intimidated by people who know a thing about cars, so I was given the runaround. I was hoping to bring my other car in, a Toyota MR2, for an engine swap, but I simply do not trust this shop anymore if they can't even correctly change my brakes correctly. I will be taking my business elsewhere and will not be returning. read more
