Dorso is the place to go, period ! This review is long overdue . I had problem with my Hyundai Sonata with general repair as well as MUFFLER problem. My car had problem with muffler as well as maintenance. On calling couple of automotive repair shops in fremont , i was quotes too high or vague answers on muffler problem . Finally searching google reviews and yelp reviews i finally called Dorso. The calmly explained menthe muffler issue along with fix and price (which was bit high) but were very transparent hence I selected them straight away. Dorso team sent me detailed screenshots of problem for my general auto maintenance as well as muffler work which had to be taken care by special third party mufflers experts. They made sure about each stage of work and suggested precautions even though my car was done and i am glad i kept my vehicle for 2 days extra so that they could fix all my precautionary issues. The only regret I have is i should have started coming here maybe 6-7 months earlier for servicing ! Not only are the owners and all people here knowledgeable and are in this business for many years, but they are very transparent ( share screenshots of work at each stage and message us ) and humble guys ! I took my 2004 and 2007 Hondas to the dealer for service since I purchased them new. I needed a catalytic convertor for my 2004 CRV. Dorso's did an excellent job of finding and installing the part. I then started taking the CRV to Dorso's for regular service. The experience was BETTER than the dealership service department. Joe Amaral is meticulous with regard to explaining what needs to be done,why and the associated cost(s). Rick (the owner) is extremely knowledgeable, professional and meticulous in both technical and customer service. Andy, is a professional and equally helpful member of the team. As a result of the superlative service I received with regard to my 2004 CRV, I brought my wife's 2007 Honda Pilot in for 5k service. Again, all aspects of the service were meticulously executed. Dorso's provided a full explanation of all services and charges on my invoices. Dorso's supplied a full inspection, with pictures, of the cars, after each visit. I had a great experience with Rick, Andy, and team at Dorso's. They are very familiar with a lot different vehicles, and I brought my 2019 Mazda CX-9 for coolant leak and brake fluid flush. They were able to address those issues and identify a couple of other things upon inspection. We ended up replacing rear brake pads/rotors as those were at minimums, and they identified a transmission oil leak that was not immediately visible. I would say that the thing that makes their shop outstanding is their attention to detail. Dealing with a few fluid leaks, their mechanics made sure to clean all the old fluids from the engine compartment. They used OEM gaskets to fix my transmission cooler leak and OE parts for the rear brakes. The other part of this business that I appreciate is their communication. The owner, Rick, and the service manager Andy carefully listen to your concerns, give timely updates, via text, phone, email. Unlike other shops, they take the time to get to know their customers and make sure that the customer understands what is necessary and what might need attention. I would say that their pricing is fair and reasonable, this is the type of business that you want to use and keep around in your neighborhood. I think I found my new neighborhood mechanic. read more

Fantastic service from the moment I stepped in the shop. I learned about them from google and yelp reviews and decided to try them out. Making an appointment was not an hassle. Just pick up the phone and dial the number on their website( # on google does not work). I had to do a vehicle inspection for my car and Rick was so helpful on what package to choose. He has a good understanding of what the customer needs and he even follows up with photos and takes time to explain to you if you are interested. I would definitely recommend this service. Dealt with Joe the entire time, from the time my Tahoe was taken in to the time it was finished. All my conversations with Joe were informative, cordial, and professional. He took the time to explain to me the issues he found, what he did to fix it, and suggestions on what may need attention next time. My Tahoe wasn't starting up every time so Joe traced all the wires to the different relays to try and isolate the problem and found out it was the ignition relay. After replacing the relay, Joe said he didn't experience any issues after that. It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust, but I feel like I can trust Joe and Dorso's. Their notes on what they did to troubleshoot and what they found were helpful in understanding what was done. I plan to go back to Dorso's if I have issues again with the Tahoe. read more

TL;DR: Excellent customer service! There were two instances that made a great impression: 1. The car's TPMS warning light was on. Dorso ran some quick tests on the TPMS sensors and confirmed that the sensors were OK. It turned out to be a flat tire. They recommended that the tires be replaced as they had worn out, and set me up with a recommendation of a really good tire place. Although I had visited them without an appointment, they tried their best to help me out. 2. It was raining and one of the windshield wipers got stuck. I visited Dorso at 5:15pm, just before they were about to close for the day. After checking the wiper, one of the guys noticed that it was a quick fix. Off he went to fetch his toolbox. The wiper was fixed, and I was on my way in less than 5 min... again without an appointment. They know how to win and retain customers. Great service! read more

This automotive shop has good ratings for a reason. I decided to no longer take my car to those quick service oil change places, as they really aren't detailed enough. So, I took my car to Dorso's for an oil change for my one and a half year old car, with only 24,000 miles on it. Turned out I had a brake fluid leak that is near impossible for a driver to know, unless it was already too late, and the brakes went out. Dorso's realized this is something that should be covered under warranty. So, I brought it to the dealership and they were flabbergasted like Dorso's was, this brake fluid leak is a fluke that just doesn't happen. I seriously don't think any quick oil changer place would have found this problem, or they would't have diagnosed it correctly. Thankfully I'm safe, thanks to Dorso's! read more

My husband and I have been taking our vehicles to Dorso's for over 30 years. I just moved "Mom" up from the LA Area to Fremont, SF Bay Area, and now she takes her car to Dorso's, too. During this past year, I put over 15,000 miles on one car, to help "Mom" move up to Fremont. That's over 15 roundtrips from SF Area to LA Area and back, often with a fully loaded car. I took my car to Rick at Dorso's for servicing and preventative maintenance a couple times this year for oil changes, which gave me the confidence to make the 8 hour drive alone through the Valley, over Gorman Pass, etc. I experienced ZERO problems with my car. Wonderful customer service! I was freaking out that my car was suddenly making a terribly loud clanking sound and didn't stop for a good 20 minutes. They were the nearest auto shop according to Yelp so called them and the gentlemen (didn't get his name, but he had a long bushy beard) who picked up told me they're closing in two minutes but he'll wait for me to get there and help me. I drove slowly and got there 15 minutes later. He didn't find any issue and took my car on a drive to determine the cause. Once he started driving it, the sound stopped (maybe it was caused by a rock that dislodged itself after awhile?). I felt embarrassed for freaking out over what seemed to have been nothing. He assured me I did the right thing by going into the shop to have it examined for safety precaution. So kind of them to have gone out of their way to stay open after hours to help me out and being so nice about everything. I heard of this place via the other Yelp review. I gave Rick a call and he was very friendly - I told him my car was making a noise and I needed someone to check it out. He had me come on over and he was willing to hop in the car and go for a ride with me to figure out what was up. He immediately identified what was wrong and I left my car with him to more fully examine. I received a timely call with a short list of repairs - he didn't push to do anything other than what I had originally asked him about (brakes). He was interested in taking care of my car and me, not squeezing me for every last cent. The brake job they did was great. My wife went to pick the car up and she said Rick was very helpful and patiently explained to her everything he had done and what was going on with the car. Sometimes mechanics can be condescending to women but my wife was happy with the way Rick interacted with her. I'll definitely be bringing my car back when I need it worked on again. UPDATE as of 3/20/08: My wife and I have brought our cars here over the past year and had consistently good results. Tom and Rick always clearly explain what's up with the car, break down every charge on the bill when you pay, etc. My impression is they don't want to make money by ripping you off like some mechanics do. What can I say about Dorso's that other reviewers have not said already? Only that everything good you read about Dorso's is true! I have a 10 year old Toyota mini van with over 170K mileage which has required critical repairs the last 2 years. Before that it was my 1994 Ford Ranger Truck and a 1990 ford Thunderbird. From my first visit to Dorso's to my most recent, my last two visits to Dorso's for my van are evidence and testimonial of their detailed workmanship and commitment to quality service. For example, last August I was experiencing a shimmy to the steering wheel on my van while accelerating. Since I was about to make a major trip over the cascade mountains, I brought it to Dorso's for a diagnostic. During the inspection, it was found that a ball joint, shocks, and front suspension tie rods were in need of replacing. Here is where the the evidence of quality workmanship comes in. After installing the new components, Rick and his staff were still experiencing a problem with the shimmy. This puzzled Rick, so he started doing some research and leg work to try to find out why this was still happening, for Rick had never had this happen before. After contacting Toyota and the manufacturer of the replacement parts, they suggested trying different components which Rick tried to no avail. After further research and inspection, Rick finally discovered that in addition to the failing ball joints and tie rods, it was the engine mounts that were also cracking and failing, causing the engine block to move, putting stress on the whole drive train and suspension which was causing the whole problem. If Rick did not catch this problem, my trip over the Cascade mountains could have been a tragic one. With my recent visit yesterday, I brought my van in again for service and what I thought was a brake replacement because of a horrible squeak after 10 months of use. However, Joe informed me that they still had life left, and that they just needed adjustment and cleaning. Further testimonial of their honesty, they did not try to sell me something I did not need. In addition, Joe arranged a rental car for me for having to keep the van overnight to replace a leaky gasket as well, and they had the van washed for me, more great customer service. The bottom line is I have been bringing my vehicles to Dorso's for repairs for over 10 years now, and I'am writing this review because of the continued excellent work quality they perform, and the care and excellent customer service both Rick and Joe provide to me as a customer. There has been no reason to go anywhere else (Nor will I) because of the quality service they provide to their customers. Rick and Joe will make every effort, and take what ever time and commitment it takes to complete a repair 100% correctly! Charge way to much for there service !! spark plug need to be replace which cost $4.15 per and my daughter has a 4 cylinder 1996 Chevy cavalier.. Anyhow the throttle body just need a cleaning and brand new spark plug wire charging me $720 for a freaking tune up .. Remember it's a cavalier not a Mercedes Benz .. And they charge me $186 for a diagnostic too .. Never again !! I took my daughters car and left .. Yes I did pay for the diagnostic!!! Smh !!!! NEVER NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SHOP !!! I finally got my daughters car tuned up at Fremont repair shop #2 they charged me $185 !! Really DORSO is a ripoff!! They charge me $186 for a damn diagnostic and Fremont repair shop #2 said they charge $105 and $185 for diesel..smh!!!i think they racial profiling. Never ever again ripping people off !!! read more

After my car failed to start in Union City I called AAA in order to get it towed. The AAA dispatch person suggested a number of places close to where I was. She mentioned Dorso's as it was 5 miles away. As this was after closing hours I dropped off my key and received a call the next day. Rick was very straightforward and informed me exactly what my issue was. Although the repair was minor(bad battery terminal) Rick also outlined the other potential issues without pushing me to get these items repaired as many mechanics do.
