I came here with a girlfriend of mine for sushi. I'm glad we did. We decided to sit outdoors since it's by the water and its summer. The view is nice and relaxing. We ordered the sweetheart roll, tuna avocado, peanut avocado roll with slices of tuna and their green salad. We ordered our usual; nothing fancy. Their green salad is huge and its made for more than one person. The food was fresh, the service was fast and the food . I previously wrote an excellent review a year ago. I came here a few weeks ago, late in the evening right before they closed on 2/26/16. I ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. I don't know which one it was, but some of the pieces tasted sour and NOT fresh. I lost my appetite and didn't finish. Almost the entire staff had left and at this point we just paid the bill and left. Even if we came in an hour before closing, the food given should NOT be spoiled. If what we want isn't fresh, tell us, and we will order something else. We were loyal customers, have come here many times in the last 4 years. This was my fav sushi place. This place is great. There is literally something on the menu for everyone. Took my parents here for diner last week. My mom loves the Happy Family Wok, 9 times out of 10 this is what she gets anytime we come. The hibachi table is also really good, but I wouldn't recommend ordering anything hibachi if you're not at the table, it just tastes different. The sushi is always fresh, no matter what you get. I would recommend any of the specialty rolls, they are all good and well thought out. Whitehouse, manhattan, queens and Deluxe Rainbow rolls are some of my favorites. The Alvarado Ball is probably the best $11 you will ever spend, its amazingggg. I would also recommend any of the prefix lunch or diner specials, for $29-$35 you get a pretty full size appetizer, course and a dessert. I ordered from the prefix menu; the sushi sashimi (4 pieces sushi, 4-8 pieces sashimi, and a Tuna Roll), a shrimp and papaya salad, and a dessert. My dad ordered the prefix as well; sea bass with veggies and substituted the rice for mash (surprise, when they came out they were sweet potato mash), the octopus salad and a dessert. My sister ordered 2 specialty rolls and a regular Roll. Also ordered the chicken (because they ran out of shrimp) dumplings, so yummy, steamed or fried, both good choices. Decided to have lunch here. Came in for a Bento Box but instead ended up having Habachi. First time here, very clean and child friendly. Staff are very professional. The hibachi cook was super friendly with my 2 yr old son even made him a sword balloon and gave him a light up Mickey Mouse ring. Would come back again. read more

Our waitress literally couldn't comprehend the difference inside the rolls , when she was even there . After we ordered drink, the waitress made it seem like she understood. I went here with a large group at about 3:00 in the afternoon. We were the only ones in the restaurant for most of our visit, so I can't complain about an inattentive wait staff or huge crowds. My table got a bunch of different rolls and they were all good. Especially the volcano roll. I got some pad Thai, and it was delicious. No one else at my table had any complaints about their food. Everything was good and the waiter was polite and efficient. No complaints here! I would definitely go back after that experience. read more

TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!! Customer beware of unsanitary food handling conditions, poor customer service, and a menu that doesn't accurately describe what you're ordering. Ordered take out via Seamless after visiting here last week for the first time. I ordered the Deluxe Rainbow Roll, which, per the Seamless menu that is uploaded by the restaurant, includes Blue Crab, Lobster, and cucumber with assorted fish on top. The roll came with Kani and avocado inside, and the assorted fish on top was primarily all salmon, which had not been trimmed/had so much fat on top it was inedible. On the menu there are other rolls listed with Kani, which I purposefully did NOT order, as I don't like Kani. I called the restaurant as soon as I noticed this mistake. The woman, who was also the manager, said "well, if you've been here before then you should know that we don't have Blue Crab, we only have Kani and Lobster SALAD".... umm, how would I know that? It's extremely misleading to have Blue Crab on the menu when in reality it's fake Crab!!!! The right thing to do would be refund the roll, right? Nope. She went back and forth with the sushi chef six times, telling me that I'm wrong and should know better, then she read the Seamless menu and said "oh yeah that's wrong on Seamless, but you should check the regular menu." I'm sorry but don't you upload your own menu? It's very misleading and dishonest. Also, the customer is always right, so this 8 minute phone call should have been nipped in the bud almost immediately. The manager then told me that she cannot refund me, as I need to call Seamless myself. I know this isn't true, as I've been refunded in the past (the restaurant has to call Seamless). She said "I can't do this right now, I'm very busy, please Call later" and hung up. Seamless corrected the mistake immediately. Additionally, as we continued to eat our $80 meal, we found two black hairs - on in Lo Mein and the other in another sushi roll. read more

My wife and I went to Frenasia as a second choice since we couldn't get into our favorite restaurant. We were seated in the back, around a corner and felt like we were in "timeout" for the kids. The menu was very long and disorganized. We were not offered water and the waitress was very unattentive. Now for the food - my wife had the California rolls, which were falling apart when she picked them up.. didn't taste bad, but weren't made well. For our entrees, we both ordered different steaks - 1 filet, 1 strip that was supposed to covered in black pepper sauce. When they came to to table, they were both presented with overcooked vegs and a tablespoon of potatoes. The filet was not a filet as ordered, but was a rib-eye and was overcooked. My steak didn't have any sauce on it and it was the fattiest piece of steak I ever got at a restaurant. The waitress never checked on us again to see if everything was OK. We will never eat at Frenasia again. Too expensive, bad service, terrible food. read more

Worst customer service I've ever had in my life. I travel internationally for work and eat a lot of delivery food. After I got done with my online order, a person called to ask for my credit card number without even introducing himself. After getting the information he needed, he simply hang up on me without even a thank you or anything. Called back a minute later to add on some silly charges onto my card... Yelp reviews are not something I normally do, the experience was so poor that this was warranted. To begin with, the menu selection was more like your local Chinese restaurant. To elaborate, what was ordered could have literally been bought for 50% less from the Chinese restaurant down the block and most likely would have tasted better. The Lo mein was highly saturated with salt, perhaps to preserve it because my girlfriend's pad Thai tasted fresh out of the freezer. Normally I don't criticize food but the fact that she found a hair in her's, it essentially triggered me. Initially the waitress turned her back to us when my girlfriend tried to call her over and the place was empty at the time so it simply appeared rude. Even my bathroom experience was poor due to the fact that it reeked of stagnant urine. Sadly 0 stars cannot be given but perhaps the 1 star is there for the fact that the water was not tainted and the the rolls (salmon and spicy tuna) were decent. The best thing I can say is that they actually removed the food with hair in it from the bill. Overall 2 things I learned today. 1) Read reviews and research before eating. 2) Don't go here unless you want a drink and perhaps some rolls...I just hope that it won't come with hair. read more

I used to live in Brooklyn, NY and every two weeks we would always order from here when we craved for sushi. This is a must go to spot if your in the area and craving Asian Fusion. We usually order the California roll, shrimp tempura, spicy crab roll, Panko crusted shrimp, chicken teriyaki and the Asian pineapple Fried Rice. All items listed above are superb. Returning costumer ordering off of a menu recently placed in my mail box a week ago. Attempted to place an order via telephone using the coupons on the back of the menu. The coupons had no expiration dates. It was for 20% off of $50 or more. The manager refused to honor it. He also had a verbal altercation with me over the phone about this. To say the least, I will never, ever order from them again or recommend them to anyone. There is a place near by, Sakura III located at 158-38 crossbar blvd howard beach ny 11414 718-323-8827 who honors their coupons. They dont deserve even 1 star!!! I write this review for my overall experience. My first experince was fine, just because it was empty. Then second was a little disappointment, lastly we wanted to give another shot last night but it was it never again. When we arrived it was 8 last night. The manager said we can sit down, but the hibachi wait is 30 mins which was fine. Then problem starts, we ordered some appetizers while we were waiting. They came 45 mins after, i was asking the manager where is our food, the manager didnt even bother to come near to the table. At the same table there were another 9 people came 35 mins after us. Then i see the chef rolling from the kitchen to cook all our food. I said ok, lets do this. And then, the chef started to cook the other parties food first, i was pissed. I got up again, talk to the manager, he even didnt give me a proper answer walked away. Then we got up paid for our appetizers and left the premises. Been in Howard beach a long time. Haven't had much of Frenasia in my time here. Been here once for a party and ordered takeout with some relatives a long time ago. Me and my wife were looking for something different the other night and frenasia came upon us. We ordered take out right here on yelp and it arrived fairly quickly. The food was delicious. Everything we got was great, with the exception of this frenAsia soup I had. It wasn't bad I just hate seaweed and there was some in the soup I didn't know. The general Tso's chicken was probably the best I have ever had anywhere. My wife go this Thai noodle dish that she enjoyed. Will definitely be ordering here again and we might even check out the outdoor seating over here one night. Definitely recommend read more

Just found out that the owners don't like Black and Italian customers so I won't be going back! They only want Asian customers. In Howard Beach? Crazy right? You shouldn't go back either. I should have known something was wrong when the staff who saw me at least once a week didn't recognize me with jeans and a baseball cap on but would greet me well when I wore a suit. I usually don't write reviews but this is a must. I have to say, this place definitely got a lot better after the last time I was here, the decor is much better, the prices are cheaper and in general the service got a looooooot better! I had the Hibachi Combination chicken and Shrimp order which came with a soup (I had miso soup) and a nice serving of salad with delicious sauce I must ask them what it was made out of simply perfect! The order came with grilled hibachi veggies which weren't too hard but weren't smushed either, but rather balanced and a nice side. The chicken and shrimp was pretty good too. It was a big serving and the pieces weren't greasy and not too saucy either. I would only say that the show they put on for us to cook it ( you have to ask for it ) not be done as scary as it was, the flames were too close for me, The rice was typical nothing bad about it, but I gotta say the soup was pretty nice, it came with lots of small piece of tofu which I like and it wasn't too salty either. If you come here, you must try the dessert! I had the Mango Fruit Tart (it was part of the combination) and unlike some places which had not so fresh fruit, the fruit here seemed as if it was just picked off the tree, the mango was sweet and the tart was crunchy. It's a great atmosphere/decor, fun opportunity to try french/asian fusion food, and they have a lot of great appetizers/side dishes/sushi rolls. We've been there a couple of times and tend to graze, having every course except the main entree. We did have an issue with the two martini's we ordered and they ran out of the ingredients. The ribs with curly fries, malaysian chow fun, seafood shumai, soups, the fusion sushi roll was a work of art, and the sticky rice dumplings were exotic and fun. Worth a try for sure! read more

Hmm where to begin. Was having a blast with my family, there were 4 of us. The hibachi chef was super nice and entertaining. The food was fresh and delicious. When it was time to pay that's when things went sideways. We went from saying we would be going back soon to saying never again! We split the payment and noticed our credit card receipts had tip amounts already added in someone else's handwriting!! We questioned this and were told sorry we will fix it. They then returned with the tip amounts added on via the computer. My problem with this is that we had a great time and would have tipped accordingly. They made it seem like we were going to leave without adding a tip at all! It made us feel very uncomfortable and the manager was combative instead of being accommodating. Was here twice - first time I got sushi and it was really good and fresh! 2nd time I sat at the hibachi table - food was good and the chef was friendly. However, the waitress was not so friendly. She said, "Whaddya want"? when we were ordering, not too polite. Also, she asked us if we wanted dessert and we said, doesn't it come with ice cream? This place is amazing!! I live in the neighborhood and I have to say there is no better place to eat around here. The quality (and service) of the food is awesome. Someone here noticed that this place is always empty and this may be so, but I think it has to do with the neighborhood people not the quality of the food and service. The demographics of the Neighborhood is mostly italian and Italians seem to prefer Italian food over Asian and most of the restaurants are Italian around here. This place has something for everyone, the sushi rolls are super fresh and they make a mean ribeye steak believe it or not. My wife loves the seared tuna salad which is served raw in the center and even though she was never a fan of raw seafood. Ok I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
