Let me start out by saying I am ONLY giving this place 2 stars because the sushi rolls were decent. I ordered the Queen's Roll and spicy tuna (which is a basic roll but always an ideal, safe choice) I called in to ask about their lunch special as I was walking down the street. Granted, Lunch ends at 3pm and It was 2:54, but the lady who answered quickly said lunch was over. I came in 2 min later and ordered the lunch special ANYWAYS! I asked her to make a suggestion as to what is her fave on the menu, she simply shrugged at every question I asked. (I really was tempted to use some colorful words but I have been working on killing people with kindness, Kind of hard when you run into such a B****!) I took a chance and ordered the chicken pineapple fried rice and two lunch rolls of sushi and the queen's roll. The Rice was ..... Meh. I've had much better but they do pack it with plenty of chicken. I've never had such mediocre thai food ever! The rolls were pretty standard and edible. Overall, I was not pleased! The decor is really nice and it would seem like such a gem in Howard Beach if the the service was better. This place has a lot of potential but it's hard to want to spend your money at a place where you don't feel welcomed. I also feel like they are trying to do too much. They offer thai, hibachi, & sushi! I suggest they master one of these types of food before they offer all. I much prefer Hagane a few blocks down. Gave this place a second try, and had some major issues with them. Firstly, my girlfriend ordered a drink from their drink menu, took them 10 minutes to realize that they have no kiwi left, so she decided to get a coke. secondly, took an additional 15 minutes after the drink problem to receive our food, which was sushi. Not like they had to cook a duck, it's sushi. I was watching the sushi chef, our food was done, sitting on the counter waiting for us to be served. We ordered an autumn roll, the spicy stuff is not spicy, why call it spicy tuna then? The shrimp tempura in the autumn roll was not even warm when served to us, and not crunchy either, but soft and soggy. Our other special roll, the Hawaiian roll was terrible, very fishy tasting. Good sushi should not taste very fishy. I can't recommend them for sushi, try Sakura down a few blocks from them, but they aren't that great either. The only redeeming feature they did have here was some mongoloid looking server desperately trying to bring people their food but never knew what table to bring it to. It's like they handed him the plates, and then he just wandered the restaurant table to table asking if this was there food. Frenasia is really good!! Prior to going there for dinner a few Saturdays, I did some research on Yelp and read quite a few negative reviews about the food, service, etc., but for the life of me I can't understand why. This restaurant is spacious, perfect for a family dinner by the hibachi grill or for a nice date in their dimly lit, quiet, waterside patio area. It was awesome! I ordered sesame salmon and wasn't disappointed because the portion was decent and tasted fresh. I'd definitely like to go here again. I'd advise you to sit outside during the summer for sure, it's really nice and there is plenty of seating. Plus they have a bar! read more

Major crap hole. Expensive for what you get. Had the octopus salad appetizer. 4 paper thin, tiny, very chewy (because the don't know how to cook it) slices of octopus, laid over a small amount of greens, with a sickeningly sweet dressing. Lousy. Asian crab cake...REALLY offensive, if one is a crabcake aficionado. There are, commercially speaking, 3 grades of crabmeat that come pasteurized in a can. The cheapest is finback, next is claw, and finally the better grade, lump. Well, they obviously use the cheapest of the cheap. The fake crab used for seafood salad would have been better. Then, they fill it with a starch filler, bread it, and deep fry it until it is rock hard...and they only give you one. Then they drizzle commercial mah ploy sauce over it, obviously straight out of the bottle. Surf and turf is comprised of 2 shrimp, fried of course, and a far-less-than generous slice of loin of beef...I can't dignify it by referring to it as filet mignon. They do. I won't. Bathrooms, like the rest of the restaurant, were so filthy that one of the women we dined with used the can of Lysol to coat the soles of her shoes. All in all, a far less enjoyable dining experience than I'd hoped for. For me, there is nothing worse than a substandard restaurant, and by substandard I mean 'you can do better in a diner', that poses as a contender, replete with valet parking, and a facade of being a 'real' restaurant, deserving of a reputation. Would absolutely never return. 5 Guys is a better, more predictably reliable expenditure of your dining buck. read more

This place is incredible. I've been here several times, and not once have I had a bad experience. I can understand that it's in a extremely Italian neighborhood and maybe people aren't to fond of hanging out with wannabe gangastas. Besides all of the above the food and the atmosphere is really something else. They have an outside bar in the summer over looking the water. They have a beautiful bar/ lounge area to chill out and have a drink. The menu is huge. I've had so much here.... The goat cheese salad, the mexican pizza, the rock shrimp. My mouth waters as I talk about it. Every time I go here it continues to impress me. The waiter service is also excellent. This was my fathers favorite restaurant. He passed recently and I have yet to go back because of how well the waiters knew him, that's how friendly they were. One day i'll show my face here again! read more

Frenasia is an excellent spot to get some sushi or hibachi without a wait. It is located in a very italian neighborhood as mentioned before so you will have the occasional wannabe gangsta being loud at the bar but overall it is a quiet place that has a beautiful outdoor patio in the summer and friendly service. I typically sit at the bar when i stop because i have become friends with the bartender Jun. It is a nice spot to take a date whether you are going to eat or just want to have a few drinks at the bar because you can actually hear yourself think. Came here for dinner since I was in the neighborhood with my significant other. We were starving and ready to satisfy our Thai and Japanese cravings. As appetizers, we ordered the Kani salad, the duck roll, and the Thai spring rolls. The Kani salad was delicious and definitely worth the price. The duck roll was very interesting and flavorful, you can definitely taste the sauce used for it and the duck was just phenomenal. The Thai spring rolls was good but we were only given two, cut into two pieces. I expected a little more for my buck. As entrees, we ordered the chicken pad Thai and the shrimp pineapple fried rice. The presentation for both these dishes were exceptionally beautiful. The fried rice was in an actual half pineapple and the plate for the pad Thai was pretty. The pad Thai could have used a little more Thai sauce, it tasted a bit more like Chinese style noodles. The pineapple fried rice was really good though but also more on the Chinese style side. Both the prices for these dishes were a little more than average. The fried ice cream was a good ending to a great meal. Definitely a place to try if you're in the neighborhood. read more

I have been frequenting this restaurant for a number of years, and they have consistently good food. Tonight I wanted to dine alone and partake in some hibachi food - I am happy to say I was not disappointed in the least! I ordered the chicken and shrimp combination hibachi dinner. Everything from the soup to the end of my last bite was amazingly delicious. I felt awkward dining alone, but the staff didn't mind at all. They were attentive enough, but didn't bother me at all. My hibachi cook didn't do a show - he just cooked... and that was fine with me. Previously I've had the Pad Thai, dumplings, and Lettuce Wraps. My friends all love their sushi. I had been there before and had a good time. I went in Tuesday in person so there would be no miscommunication on the phone. I was making a reservation for my daughter's birthday on Saturday. There would be 8 of us. I discussed it in detail with the man, picked a table. We arrived on Saturday five minutes early. The woman had no idea what I was talking about. They sat us at a table but said there would be NO SHOW!! I said that's why we came here!!! The man who took the reservation came out. My review is a little bit everyone from all the others, with the exception of the woman from Long Beach who gave it 5 stars because there is NOTHING 5 star about this place. There were 3 things that I gave this place a thumbs up for: 1) We were seated immediately. 2) The plates, because I absolutely adore square plates, and 3) The mini wok that my food came in. After that, nothing was good. The service was horrible. We sat there for a half hour before anyone even took our drink order. Then after we finally got to order them, it took another 15 minutes for them to get it us. The waitstaff was unbelievably rude and the food was HORRIBLE. This is everyone's go to who lives within the area! I could pop in here last minute on a weeknight or weekend and there's guarantee a seat available. There's a nice deck out back which is lovely for a summer day or evening with a few cocktails or an ice cold beer. My friends and I love this place specifically for there dragon rolls and fried ice cream. The crab cakes are not all that but to each its own. My fav drink has to be the lychee mojito! Ordered the dinner bento with teriyaki salmon and chicken thai coconut curry for delivery. The bad review is because the price of the food does not nearly reflect the quality and taste of the food. The bento was $20, it came with the salmon, rice, seaweed salad, shumai, and California roll. The salmon was dry and the rest got soaked in the teriyaki sauce during the delivery. The Thai coconut curry was not flavorful. The sad thing is that I've have very good experiences when I ate at the restaurant. I love the service and the view in their outside seating. It's my first time here and so far so good. Very friendly servers and the food is great. The ambience was nice they even have a outdoor sitting area. They have lots of food on the Appetizers menu just in case you don't want to have a big meal. I would have gave this place 5 stars but what made me give the 4. Came in on a whim... We were looking for a place with outside sitting a good bar and good food. Well we found it here. The bartender Margaret "G" was great. Her drinks hit the spot. Met a few of the regulars and had a blast. Everything on the menu we tried was on point. The shrimp tempura was deliciously crispy and plentiful the sushi sashimi combo fresh and tasty the flank steak flavourful. The apple banana spring roll a real treat. I came here for my birthday last year and had a great time. They really went out of their way to accommodate my party, which was about 13-14 people. Despite my celebration being spontaneous, the hostess couldn't be nicer. Since I was recovering from food poisoning at TGIFridays in sheepshead bay my menu was limited and I wasn't happy wanted to try a bunch of stuff off this menu. I had the vegetable fried rice which was really good. My boy had the sesame crusted salmon which I had a bite and was really good. We were sitting outside by the water. FOOD: Hot dishes are subpar; items have occasionally come out partially frozen, suggesting they're pre-ordered elsewhere and heated instead of freshly prepared on-site. Sushi, however, is exceedingly fresh and reasonably priced; if I were rating on sushi alone, this would be a 4.5 star place. SERVICE: Can be excellent depending in who the server is; be warm and engage them in conversation for the start of the meal and you'll have a positive experience. ATMOSPHERE: Very classy decor, but the locals don't dress for it. Lighting is too dim and the place can get cold in the winter if you're seated next to the windows. PRICE: Hot entrees are overpriced at $15 and up. Sushi is nicely priced at $5 per roll, $9 - $12 for special rolls. For a sushi meal of three rolls per person and some sake or sodas to go with it, figure on $25 a person with tip. Not cheap, but not insane for sushi either. CONCLUSIONS: Don't make a special trip to southern queens to go here (Thai Rock has better views and food for the price and Prima Pasta is a better value) but if you live in the area and want sushi it's not a bat option. read more

But they messed up my order and when I called the person who answered told me that they had to cancel one of my rolls because the computer (seamless) put in 8 rolls instead of 7. We ordered wine, shrimp dumplings and miso soup to start, and specialty rolls. The miso soup was standard, I would say boring. The sushi rolls were great! We got: Deluxe Rainbow, Sweetie roll, Third Ave roll, King's Roll and a Fusion Roll with brown rice ($1 extra for brown rice). We really enjoyed our food, and loved the ambiance of the place (soo pretty and relaxing to eat outside and enjoy the view). In fact, when we came in the outdoor seating area was empty- and got packed as we dined! I would definitely come back. We don't have many sushi restaurant do delivery to our work place and this is the only one. One downside is delivery most likely will take one hours. And also when we placed a large order sometimes they put the sushi into one huge box instead of separating them so I learned after that to always tell them to separate. read more
