Not only is the food mediocre but the service is terrible. While seated outdoors on a summer night not yet closing time, we were rushed out of the restaurants due to the staff banging the chairs together while packing them up. When I mentioned this rude service to the hostess, she claimed that an hour seating time was sufficient time for being in their restaurant. It was my daughter's 18th birthday on mother's day and we went for dinner. The waiter left her cake for 3 hours(waited 11/2 hours before seated. Eventhough we had a resveration and was charged $50.00 to hold the time) It was discounted at the end. Her cake melted and the waited claims it was put in the fridge. My wife and I have been regulars at this place for quite sometime often visiting them twice a week,also taking many friends and relatives there and we also often order delivery from them-Until today! -Miss "Debbie" (if that is her real name) answered the phone we called at 2:45 for the lunch specials delivery which run till 3:00 pm. We ordered 3 entrees Shrimp teriyaki,Salmon teriyaki and a General Tso;s chicken all of which are on the lunch menu-she proceeded to tell me that only the General Tso's chicken was available on the lunch menu, having a menu right in front of my face I tried very politely to explain to her that she was incorrect. The 3 items are all available on the lunch menu-She repeated herself to me 5 or 6 times about the General tso's chicken only being the available item that it got to the point which I felt insulted. I am not mentally disabled (no offense intended) I told her that she did not have to repeat herself,I understand english perfectly-She refused to allow me to order the other items unless I paid the dinner prices.This went on for about 5 minutes, I had to raise my voice to her so she would simply allow me to speak my peace.She was extremely rude and condesending. I explained to her that we have placed this very same order in the past with no issues, this had no affect on her-I asked to speak to SAM the owner but he was not in-I told her she was not very courteous and that she was rude and unprofessional, she responded by saying " I dont care I am going on vacation" This comment was unnecessary and insulting - It really is a shame that a place with tremendous potential does not take the time to properly train the staff on the importance of customer service and plain old ettiqutte, now mind you this is not the first unpleasent encounter that we've had with DEBBIE,we had called before at 2:55 and she refused to give us LUNCH items telling us that she goes by "HER" watch not ours- This is not the way you treat loyal customers, she really needs to take a course on customer service and manners.My wife and I were so turned off by her actions that now we will find it very difficult to visit this place ever again.With that being said I must state and give proper credit to KEVIN the server there who always takes care of us,he is an exception,he is very courteous and always treated us well and with respect- We will miss you Kevin!!! I have been to this establishment many times over many years. I will never step foot in Frenasia again; as long as they still employ the Monday afternoon (female) manager. I can but will not get into every detail, but I will say she was rude and extremely disrespectful. Let's say she can't handle her job. We were having lunch 10 ppl. Yes, 5 were children. Excited to have Hibachi. As the children were interacting with the chef; she walked over to our table (on phone) telling the kids to be quiet. Apparently, she couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone. Why she just couldn't take the phone elsewhere AND DO HER JOB was beyond me. So instead she blamed children for her incompetence. She approached our table again trying to keep the children quiet. When I finally tried to speak to her she DISMISSED ME. Afterwards she approached another member of our party explaining that she lost a costumer. So now i ask....WHAT WERE THE 10 OF US? Furthermore, I ask the owner of this restaurant. If you are not (neighborhood) kid friendly WHY DON'T YOU POST A SIGN STATING "NO CHILDREN"? One thing is certain....I WILL NEVER EVER STEP FOOT INTO YOUR RESTAURANT AGAIN. I use to come here a lot till I got fed up with the service. The decor is very nice I love that it has outside except that when the sun starts to go down instead of regular candles they should really be putting out candle or wicks to keep the bugs away. I went there last night giving it another shot and I really like this place but our waiter was really bad. The menu is over prices but it's worth it at least for sushi (that's all I eat there). The rolls are really good but it takes about 30 min for the food to come out so that part sucked. I ordered a beer and it took about 15 mins for him to bring it out so I figured let me order wine that way somehow maybe it'll be faster nope that was prob worst maybe they were mashing grapes in the back idk. Finally I order a chocolate cake waited 25 minutes and ask the waiter are the actually baking this cake I mean how long does it take to put a piece on a place with a scoop of ice cream and he said ooo yea they have to make it. okkkkkkkkkk to conclude this yes the place is nice and has good food but service just sucks for what you pay to eat there. read more

i disliked this place a whole lot and I think the reason why I did is because a friend of mine made me think it was something it was not. She said we were going to a Hibachi place with excellent food and inexpensive. We went an early dinner on a Tuesday at about 5pm. There was nobody in the place but us. My friend wanted to sit outside but it was hot and i just wanted the cool air. We ordered some mussels for an appetizer. i can't recall the name of it but they had an orange paste like consistency type of sauce on them. You get 6 of them and they were really big. It sits on top of a bed of greens that have a spicy dressing on it. So far I was happy about that, although i didn't care for the texture of the sauce but the flavor was good. I was disappointed because when my friend said Hibachi I was looking forward to meat or seafood or chicken cooked on a hibachi right in front of you. This was not the case. Instead it is more of a Japanese restaurant. I ordered chicken and shrimp szechuan style and it had no heat to it whatsoever ever. The choice u get with it is a small bowl of brown or white rice. The veggies in the dish were good, onion, mushrooms, green beans, egg plant (i didn't eat because i don't like eggplant) but the shrimp were not good. I gave them to my friend she enjoyed them. they were huge , but the texture of them was horrible. Shrimp and vegetable tempura was crisp, fresh and delicious, beef satay and chicken dumplings were terrific and the pad thai was terrific. Nasty waitress with no pesonalty to start. I have been dining at frenasia for a few years now. I keep going back because the food is delicious. The last few times I came, I was treated very badly. First, my appetizer came out to early. I ordered and appetizer for dinner! And asked Tina, the waiter to bring it out with dinner. She took it back in and when she brought it back it was very cold. I ordered the pineapple fried rice. It had no onions in it. I asked Tina ( our waiter)why doesn't my fried rice have onions inside of it ? Her response was we don't cook with onions in this restaurant! She was so rude! I told her really that's news to me! l always get onions inside of my fried rice. She then took it back in and had it refried with onions. (And charged us $2 extra and $2 extra for sprouts )Then as soon as she placed it on the table. I spotted a long hair. I showed it to her and she took my fried rice away and told me I'm not giving it back; I will take it off ur bill. I told her I have been waiting for 45 mins to eat!! I'm starving,I wanted my fried rice,I'm paying for it!! She said no it's off ur bill. And refused to listen to me. I love love love this place, but I'm only giving 4 stars because of the crab ravioli which at one time was the best thing I ever tasted but someone forgot the original recipe it was horrible. We loved it! We moved from Bensonhurst,Brooklyn to Old Howard Beach last July, 2017. As time goes by we have tried every restaurant that looks decent in the area.We passed Frenesia a few times in route to somewhere else but from the outside we were not sure if it was a nice place or not? Recently one Friday night after a long work day we agreed Japanese food sounded like a great idea and decided to try it ,so happy we did ! The staff was excellent very accommodating and the menu choices were by far interesting and go above and beyond your average Asian eatery. The drinks were awesome but most importantly the food was very fresh and the restaurant was clean. We sat in a nice booth looking at the water and it was a chilly night. I loved that they set up a few extra heaters near the tables to keep things extra cozy and warm! The owner came by as each plate was served and stayed to have a short conversation with us...we will definitely return! read more

We just had lunch in this place. Our first time. My wife and I are smokers, looking for restaurants with an outdoor patio or smoking sections. Needless to say that many times, we are happy to sacrifice a little the quality of the cuisine in exchange for an outdoor patio. We were really surprised with our good luck. The Grey Goose vodka martinis (dirty) were excellent, very cold & reasonably priced. The white wine (they have a very limited wine list) was perfectly chilled and came with a metal bucket filled with ice to keep it that way. The appetizers were inded more than decent. My main course (lobster cantonese) was extraordinary, tender & juicy. To our surprise they also serve expresso coffee, we are expresso fanatics and we really appreciate a good quality expresso. They have it!!!! For a party of 4, considering that we had 3 appetizers, 1 main course, 3 beers, 2 martinis, 1 bottle of white wine, 1 marie brizard annisette, 2 desserts and 2 expressos; the check with taxes totaled $132.00. Living in New York for over 43 years, I call that a good deal. We are not very attached to any kind of oriental cuisine; but I have to recognize that this place offers a lot more than that. The menu is so extensive and has so much variety that we were expecting a fabulous meal. The duck dumplings were stuck together and lacked flavor. The chicken satay was plain with sauce on the side. The crunchy spicy rolls were neither crunchy nor spicy. The sesame chicken had no sesame seeds and was average. The chef put no love into the food. Disgusting!!!! I just ordered sushi and hibachi and the food was absolutely horrible!!! You would think the amount of money you spend you would get good quality and at least fresh food. My sushi tasted horrible, they left out most of what it stated it had in the menu. they only give a half a cup of sauce and forgot the other one I ordered. which they charge for. The hibachi steak was like rubber and the shrimp that it comes with was rock hard. I took their menu and ripped it up to pieces so I never make the mistake of ordering from them again. It frustrates me that we have businesses whose prices are extremely high and their quality of their product is horrible and also their customer service. They should be shut down for selling sushi that is not fresh. you can get sick....I strongly suggest you do not eat from there... I've been going to Frenasia for 3+ years and have had a few bad experiences. The customer service really sucks. The waiters/waitresses are very bad at communicating with the guests. They do not listen to your order attentively. On one occasion, we were rushed to order and the waitress hastily took away the menus as we finished ordering. Serving the food, they did not even have the slightest clue as to what was ordered by whom. The food was not accompanied by the sauce/side as stated on the menu. We had to ask and then she brought it over. On a different occasion, my boyfriend and I waited approx. 30 mins for a glass of water! Can you believe that? It was not even a busy time at all! I was not happy with that at all because it was his first experience there and it didn't even help. The food and drinks are great but it's all about customer service to keep your customers coming back. Lastly, they always rush to bring the bill in the middle of us having our lunch/dinner.
