I received a no-chip manicure from this salon. The cons were that the manicure began severely chipping after a week, but the pros which I find extremely hard to find in a good nail salon, is the place is clean and they do an EXCELLENT job trimming up/cleaning the cuticles. I've been going here for 4 years now with my mom and daughter. The transition of management from Lori to Kim was smooth, and the quality of services has not suffered. I appreciate the friendliness of Kim & her staff, the cleanliness of the business and have always been very satisfied with their manicures, pedicures and no-chip. I have been here many times in the past and stopped going about four years ago as it was not being kept very clean. I saw it was under new ownership so decided to try again two weeks ago and had a no chip manicure. They removed the no chip I already had on and the manicure result was acceptable. I went yesterday to get another no chip, the SAME person did my manicure and I was shocked, dismayed, angry and now more ANGRY!!!! How the same person can give a decent manicure one time and the next time destroy my nails just has me mystified, which is why I didn't walk out within the first 15 minutes!! My nails were filed from the top with such aggressive force making them very thin and painful, I asked why she was filing my nail away like that? I told her it was painful and making my nails very thin but since she doesn't seem to speak or understand much English I don't know if she even understood what I was saying, my body language would have been easy to read in any language when I kept pulling my hand away and grimacing with obvious discomfort!!! The owner of the salon (I am assuming) felt my nail and said it was very strong. I have very weak nails so after such an aggressive filing they are anything but strong!! Now the lower 1/3 of my nails are so thin you can see the pink of the blood supply are breaking but she had filed them super short as well so I can't even cut the tips to try to get to the thicker part of my nail. She told me to go wash my hands which I did but there was no towel to dry my hands, she saw my wet hands and proceeded to do a hand massage, adding lotion to wet hands makes a sloppy wet mess and the lotion does not absorb, like the previous time it was not much of a massage!! I decided not to have no chip as I just wanted to get out of there and when the polish would be removed my nails would be even weaker. I need to add she was obnoxiously chomping on her gum the entire time, making no conversation and speaking in another language to the other person. She put clear nail polish on, charged me $20 Now at that point what would you do? I have only written a review one other time after a very bad experience with a dog groomer! The bottom line is a manicure is supposed to be relaxing with a lovely result and worth the dollar amount you spend. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE GOOD CARE OR BE HAPPY AFTER VISITING FRENCH 4U........hopefully I can help prevent another person from such shocking and painful experience!! read more

I have gone several times (walk-in) and the service has been fine. Today I walked in at 5:40 and they were having a special $5 off mani/pedi which is what I wanted. They told me that they had a couple of appointments booked at 6 PM and if they didn't show up they could take me. I asked if they could do just a pedicure and if they had time, a manicure. So they were doing the pedicure and their booked clients walked in 10 minutes late. Myself and the other woman who walked in wanting mani and pedi were told we were done. Regular price of mani/pedi is $36 so the discounted price is $31 with the $5 off special. They charged me $25 for the pedicure alone. I asked if I could have $5 off since I came in for a mani/pedi. I asked if I could pay for the mani and pedi today and come back tomorrow for the manicure, they said no. So guess what, because you don't want to stay 10 minutes or so after closing, you have lost a customer. I will not be back. Not happy. read more

I used to love this place. I gave up on them about six months ago because the quality became inconsistent. Recently, friend convinced me to go back. Got a no-chip mani. Chipped in a week, when it was supposed to last two weeks. My friend convinced me again to give it another try. She complained like crazy afterwards because they rushed her out of the salon before her nails were completely dry. I got another no-chip mani and the next day my thumb chipped. Four days later, a few more chips on a couple other nails. One week after getting my nails done, chips on all of my nails. Some substantial. I am beyond disgusted and annoyed with myself for trying that place again. Complete waste of my money. Used to be good, but the quality is now substandard. Very disappointed. read more

I was very sceptical about coming back especially because I wanted to get the no chip and I didn't want to pay that much money for a horrible job. I decided to give it another try and I was very surprised!! They remodeled the whole place and they did an excellent job... This place looks very nice inside. Very up to date. I was helped by a lady named Lori. She was nice. Gave a free hand lotion and a business card with a $5 reward for 10th visit. I went home, and a day and a half later my no-chip got a chipped! Then I kept looking at my nails and noticed my nails were filed unevenly, but tried not to let it get to me. Tried to go back to get my nail fixed within two days, but was told i was going to get charged $5 for it. That is not much to fix a nail, but jeeze i just got the nails done. I said i just got them done, and thought salons usually fix it free of charge if something happens within a day or too. She said it was "my problem", not hers. That alone made me feel not respected as a customer. A simple, sorry that is our policy would have been fine. Never going back. Maybe the other ladies are different. read more

I received the worst pedicure I ever experienced at French 4U in Park Ridge, Il. First off I made an appointment and despite doing this, I still waited 30 minutes before my pedicure started. They put me in a foot soak while I waited which was fine but they didn't even turn on the jets and just had me sitting there in tepid water until I said something. Eventually the nail technician was ready and I was looking forward to a wonderful pedicure. She worked very quickly as if to get me out of the chair as quickly as possible. She barely did anything but trim and polish my nails which I do at home for free. She did not buff out the ridges in my nails, heel calluses or put any clear base coat on nails before putting the polish on. While my toes were drying under the heat lamp, I noticed my calluses were still very rough and dry. When I asked her about this, I was told this would cost an additional $5 to smooth my heels out which I cannot believe is an added expense now with a pedicure! In my past of experiences, this was part of the pedicure service! When I got home, I really noticed how poorly the polish job was done. My nails are not smooth and are of full of ridges that should have been buffed out. Also the polish job is sloppy, several nails are not completely polished and have gaps on the sides. I paid $30 for this service and have never received such a poorly done pedicure. I get the impression unless you are willing to upgrade to a $45 or more pedicure at French 4U, you will receive a very shabby job since the "basic" pedicure clearly does not cover what I expected and experienced from every other pedicure I have received in the past. They don't understand English too well and follow directions. My nails only last less than a week. It seems the nail polish is old at this place and not many color choices.. Don't botther making an appointment because they take walk ins and don't leave a person to take you when you come in for your scheduled appointment, you will wait 20-30 minuts. read more

After several years as a regular, I've just visited French 4U for the last time. You would think that regardless of which person you get, the service has at least some level of consistency. Not here. It's all about who you get; and you get who they give you. Today I brought my niece in for a mani/pedi. I went from pedicure to manicure to drying station in 30 minutes. Seriously? 30 minutes is a joke. Meanwhile, I'm drying my nails and my niece is STILL getting her pedicure! Truth be told, I've felt the service dropping off but continued to chalk it up to maybe someone just not having a good day. However, the experience I had today has in fact become the norm. I will add that the people are SO unfriendly. They literally grunt in response to anything you might say. Lastly, I would have given 5 stars for cleanliness... that is until today when right in front of my face, the owner reached into a garbage can and pulled out 3 or 4 pairs of those disposable flip flops. I saw her with my own eyes bring them over to a sink and clean them off!!! Now maybe that's not completely disgusting to everyone (and I get that), but she did this right in front of the customers! Got a pedi and a no-chip here. Short hot stone massage was nice on the legs but there was absolutely no foot massage whatsoever. That was disappointing as a big part of why I get a pedicure versus just a polish change is for the massage. Still, my nails were painted nicely and cuticles seem to have been done well. As for the no-chip, HORRIBLE. Tech applied polish very streaking and constantly kept getting polish on my cuticles and then very poorly cleaning it off. Nails were filed into an odd shape despite my showing her a picture of exactly what I wanted. Polish was extremely unevenly applied. Worst part was that the top coat turned brown the very next day. Disgusting. I would go back to get them redone if I wasn't in fear of the same shoddy job. Cuticles not trimmed well at all. I came because I was given a gift certificate, but I will definitely not be back here. The two stars for positives is for the cleanliness and politeness of the employees--that's about it. First, let me say that this is the first time I have written a "yelp" review but I thought it was worth my time to warn folks to STAY AWAY.. I have been a regular at the salon for years and since Gloria left the service has definitely declined. The staff is so unfriendly and unhappy it is not worth the trip. There are to many other nail salons in the area to spend your money. I think it stems from the owner who in reading someone else's review saw her pick out used flip flops out of the garbage...I'm not surprised. The owner is letting the service and quality of work deteriorate. While I was there, I paid over 60 dollars plus additional for the tip for no chip mani removal, ped, new mani and massage. Now, like I said, I was a regular (meaning myself, daughter, and sometimes daughter friends would make a trip at least 2 or 3 times a month), so when I needed to leave before completing the services and paying in full after hearing my son was being rushed to the emergency room, I figured coming back to complete the services was not going to be a big deal. Well, I was wrong. The owner refused to reimburse me for the mani, saying that I had rec'd it, albeit there was no polish, no cuticle removal or hand massage. I wonder what could be left? Oh, that's right....the polish removal but remember they charge extra for no chip removal so that could not have been part of it. UNBELIEVABLE! After a lengthly back and forth exchange and embarrassing interchange with her staff, she offered to give me a polish change....but NO MANI for YOU!. Wow, would she really put her relationship with me on the line over a few dollars? I guess so. I asked her for money back since I would not send my worst enemy to her or her staff w/ a gift certificate in replace of the money. Best of luck French 4U...I've moved on. Try Pink in downtown PR they have new ped booths and so far the staff is has been great. read more

STAY AWAY!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! HORRIBLE!!!! I went here to get mani/pedi's with for my wedding with my bridal party. First, the technician working with me, named Kim, kept shooting me death glances whenever I didn't hold my hand or fingers in a certain way - which she did NOT communicate with me verbally though... Next, when I said I wanted tips on my finger nails, she rolled her eyes, gave a huge sigh, and then a disgusted face at me. Don't offer the service if you can't do it in a professional - or even civil- manner! Then she kept talking about me and my bridal party by pointing at us and making vulgar faces. Also, TWO of my nails came right off before I even got to my reception... I wasn't cleaning/moving things/getting ready myself - everyone was helping me so there's no reason that acrylics should break off within 24 hours. Last, she conned us out of another $20 by saying my sister didn't tip the technician but when I talked to my sister, my bridesmaids and my mom, everyone confirmed she did.
