Portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry. My favorite dish was White Clam Sauce with gluten free pasta, which was delicious, also gluten free, dairy free and soy free. Unbeknownst to me, Fresco by Scotto is somewhat of a staple when it comes to Italian restaurants in NYC. Glad we went as it was, overall, a good experience. Decor - The main dining area is nicely decorated making it seem holiday-ish when it wasn't even close to any holiday. It's not a small area by any means, but it's not extensive either, making it feel very cozy and inviting. I will want to come back during the holidays as I'm sure they do a great job at making it very festive. Service - Good service overall. Nothing special to highlight, but nothing to complain about either. However, their attention to birthday parties makes it above average (and this is coming from someone who is not big on birthdays). Food - Everything was good. Shared Mama Scotto's Meatball (4/5) which taste wise was wonderful, but presented as one huge meatball. The size does make it seem very much as dish made by an Italian grandma - presentation wise something a bit smaller might be more appealing. I had the Linguine Alle Vongole (3/5) which was good. While I like this dish I like pasta with a lot more flavor, so it would have to be made incredible to get 5/5, but that's my own preference and this dish especially is usually made with more subtle flavors. Friends had the Chicken Scarpariello and Rigatoni Bolognese and said both dishes were good. Note - It is a good place for birthday celebrations. I was in Midtown East for a,conference, and I had a dinner scheduled with a friend. I tend to venture pretty broadly, but an Italian meal seemed in order. Fresco by Scotto caught my eye, particularly the prix fixe. Very unassuming entrance on E 52nd St, bustling yet chill and hushed inside. The lighting is soft and a little dim, easy on the eyes. The prix fixe, as predicted looked like a great deal, but we went ala carte instead. I had the duck breast and the special arugula, apple and gorgonzola salad, friend had the roast chicken and a salad. Food was well-prepared and homey, and we maintained our respective memberships in The Clean Plate Club. Had a very nice glass of Amarone with the duck, and the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Fresco By Scotto is a restaurant that serves you an incredible experience of fine dining. The menu offers a combination of northern and southern Italian dishes with a star studded selection of appetizers, pastas, fish, and meats. For the apps we ordered octopus, salmon tartare, frito misto, clams oreganata, and artichoke salad. Everything was delicious. We all feel the Octopus was a little too strong on the flavor profile but it was still good. There was a slight bitterness to it that we all agreed was a bit too much. The salmon tartare was really good and my personal favorite. Entrees ordered were Rigatoni Bolognese which my wife absolutely loved. I ordered the Dover Sole and it was a perfectly flavored light fish. The table also ordered Branzino, veal chop, filet mignon, and parperdelle duck ragu. Everything was presented beautifully and we all enjoyed our entrees. The service was spot on. All desserts were good with the chocolate cake being out of this world. I came here for my friend's birthday gathering. The place is spacious and high energy. We happened to be there during Kentucky Derby so watching the race here was fun as many of us were glued watching the TVs while having great dinner and drinks. This was a diamond in the rough! Wife & I went on a Wednesday night, it was fairly busy at 5:30 with large and small parities. All looking like they were having a great time. The first step in the door I knew we made the right decision. Greeted with a friendly smile and polite from the get go. Fresco By Scotto just off of Park Avenue is this modern running / Old School restaurant (I know that's an oxymoron, but.......) making classic Italian dishes the right way. We were there for a birthday party and our host ordered (almost) everything on the menu. * The chicken parm was delicious * Their Caesar salad had all of the fixings with crisp romaine, anchovies, garlic breadcrumbs * Fritto Misto with ricotta, mozzarella, tomato sauce shrimp, calamari, baby octopus, zucchini, marinara - excellent * Mama Scotto's meatballs were great being made with provolone, tomato basil sauce, whipped ricotta tomato sauce, bel paese, pecorino romano * Ragatoni Bolognese had veal and chicken ragù, parmigiano - wonderful And this list keeps on going on! This restaurant is set up nicely, there is outdoor seating as well as cozy bar - seating area to meet your guests that arrive. Nice touch. My table is ready. I grab my cocktail and I'm seated at a small table. I've been reading the menu online, I want to grab a small plate and this famous meatball. I must point out, the $89 price fixe menu looks really good. I'm thinking my wife would love this menu before a Broadway show. Mental note for myself. I want to order a starter, its a toss up between the Grilled Spanish Octopus and Salmon Tartare. If my wife was dining with me, anything tartare is not an option so Tartare it is! I must say, the salmon tasted very fresh, this was a great starter and highly recommended. Now the meatball dish comes to the table. This thing is huge. I mean (Trump voice) YUGE! I also ordered the dish with the house made Chitarra. The meatball, Mama did the Scotto name proud! This place is just absolutely beautiful. The moment you turn onto 52nd street from Madison, you are met with the most stunning outdoor seating area. Enter the restaurant and flowers adorn the interior. You are instantly transported into an incredible oasis, and you haven't even taken a bite of anything yet. The service here is outstanding. The staff is uniformed and all are very knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. There was a special for the evening for every category of the menu and they all sounded incredible, specifically the past dish which sounded very refreshing with zucchini and lemon-white wine sauce. I was so torn and you know your girl loves a special, but I ended up going with another pasta dish and before I can even go into that all these pastas are made in house and fresh. Of course I had to go splitsy with my friend, so I got the lobster carbonara while my friend ordered the prosciutto and pea agnolotti and we let each other try the other's dish. Both were just outstanding. I think I liked the agnolotti a tad more but it was just that good beating out a dish with huge chunks of lobster meat. I almost forgot forgot to tell you how the meal began! We started with black pepper breadsticks and olives to the table followed by the buratta salad. The salad was perfect for two people. I met up with a group of friends at this classy Italian restaurant. The outdoor patio is beautifully decorated with lots of greenery for a vibe that almost takes you outside of NYC. Our table of 6 decided to go family style and share and array of dishes. For the starters, we got the Potato & Zucchini Chips with Gorgonzola Cheese ($22), Frito Misto ($36), and a side of Tuscan Fries ($16). Even though they're starters, they came after the pasta orders, which was a little weird. We also got the Rigatoni Bolognese ($40) and Larry's Lemon Capellini ($39). Since we were sharing, they were kind enough to split our plates into two plates, so we didn't have to reach across the table to share. Honestly, nothing really stood out, but ate it anyways. My biggest takeaway is that the gorgonzola cheese is too overwhelming. Sadly, nothing I can remember much from eating here. It's decent, but it's tough with so many great restaurants in the city. I first went to Fresco by Scotto about 9 years ago to celebrate my dad's birthday. While I hadn't been back since, I remember being impressed with it and always had it as a go-to whenever the opportunity called for lunch or dinner in Midtown. I was planning an early work dinner in Midtown East and after a little brainstorming Fresco seemed like the ideal spot, so off we went. Fresco by Scotto opened in 1993, and is owned by Rosanna Scotto and her family. Rosanna is best known as an anchor on Fox, and the family has a heavy hand in the operations and marketing of the restaurant. As I approached the restaurant, I noticed they did up the outdoors area really nicely - since the weather was nice they had the street-facing doors open with tables spilling onto the sidewalk. Additionally, they had another outdoor area on the street which was likely built during during COVID. They did a great job connecting both seating areas and added a lot of plants to really add to the aesthetic - the curb appeal was lovely. Since it was a little humid, we opted to sit inside where the aesthetics continued. There's a small bar up front and then it gives way to the main dining area. It's a roomy restaurant with somewhat upscale decor - white tablecloths, plush booths, and modest accents which all translated to a comfortable surrounding. The menu isn't too large but has a good selection of Italian dishes - broken up by shareable starters, apps, pastas, and mains. I remembered that one of their signature menu items was potato and zucchini chips topped with gorgonzola, so we decided to start with that. It was delicious - there was a generous helping of cheese, and the flavor seeped really well into chips. For my main, I couldn't resist pasta, and the Rollatini Scotto Style stood out to the me the most. It wasn't chicken or eggplant that was rolled here, rather it was sheets of pasta that held broccoli rabe and sausage. There were two rolls that sat in a red sauce and served with two dollops of ricotta. I enjoyed the dish - all the flavors worked well together, the marinara was tasty, and I appreciated the addition of the ricotta. I would like to have seen more of a broccoli rabe presence, but it was a good dish nonetheless. Service was great; they paced everything very well and timed their check-ins with us perfectly as not to interrupt our conversation too many times. Overall, I really enjoyed my rediscovery of Fresco by Scotto - they serve delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere with excellent service. I came here the other night for dinner with a friend and we absolutely loved this place!!! What drew me to the area first was the gorgeous decor outside. I felt like I was in a lemon orchard. It felt so refreshing and tropical. The staff was great and this place was perfect for a date night. We wanted to share our entrees and sour server recommended splitting the plates separately so that we each felt like we were getting full dishes but still able to try a few different options. We started by splitting a couple of dips. The next entree we got was the fish. It was light and refreshing and perfect for summer. The lamb ragú was absolutely divine. Came here for my Aunt's birthday at the recommendation of my cousin who knows someone who lives near the restaurant. We didn't want an old and stuffy place, but also did not want a place that was so modern that everything was a fusion dish with portions the size of a fingernail and a price point somewhere between Fort Knox and the moon (which is most of Manhattan now). Fresco by Scotto delivered. Portions were generous enough, and yes the price is there, but there is also the option for a generous prix fixe, and the ambiance and service are impeccable. If you have an occasion here, there is an upstairs room that is not as loud as the downstairs, which is lively and fun! So you can choose your adventure on that front. We had a variety of dishes. To start we tried the meatball, which was very good, because the sauce and texture of the meatball was on point. We also had the wedge salad, which is unique in how it is cut and shaped, and has ranch instead of blue cheese, as well as tomato. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was superb, and a special grilled pizza that was surprisingly good as well. For our mains we had dover sole, chicken scarpariello, cacio e' pepe, and the branzino. Everyone was happy. The best ones were the cacio e' pepe and the dover sole. A minor point - the scarpariello comes with chicken sausage rather than pork sausage, because that is the chef's choice. Everything is subjective. I think that's weak and unnecessary, but my cousin liked it, and when I tried the chicken itself, it was perfectly tender and delicious. So, not a criticism, I'm just picking nits on my own preference. Do as you wish! For dessert we had coffee/espresso (they use Illy, which is our favorite), an affogato, and they brought out something special for my Aunt we didn't even ask for. Classy!
