I used to like this place but I just had the worst experience 2 days in a row. Thursday a elderly asian man didnt honor my Free Box and said come back tomorrow & you can use it. I come back the next day and his wife (elderly asian lady) argued with me that they couldnt scan my rewards to give me my free box. I work in Concord and decided to try this place because of the reviews. Food and customer service were a letdown. I was not acknowledged when I walked in and stood looking at the menu for a while. There was one worker at the cash register, one at the poke station, and no customers. The lady at the poke station finally acknowledged me after she was done refilling stuff, even though I was in front of her the whole time. For my bowl, I got all spicy tuna as my protein with half rice and half mixed greens. My bowl tasted fine except for the spicy tuna. It was dry, stringy, and did not taste fresh. You can even see in the picture how dry it was, like it was sitting out. I've been to many poke places, and this is probably the worst one out of all of them. read more

Let's start off with the food. It's poke, very easy to get right but when it goes wrong, it's wrong. In this case I loved the freshness of the fish. Okay so I came here today after seeing the reviews. In the Concord area there's so many things you can choose but this sounded just right. The ambiance is okay, typical down the line type ordering.. First red flag: started ordering online.. but Grubhub, Doordash, Clover, UberEats.. no salmon option. No biggy, called in and the lady said to just check what I wanted and put in the notes the intention. Easy! I started ordering (was ordering for work too) and I noticed hamachi wasn't an option. Weird.. Second red flag: Called back twice, no answer.. so I did the same thing, and thought "oh if they don't have it they'll call back". Okay so I drive over, lady says they didn't have it so she gave me double salmon. Great.. but it would have been nice to get a call because 2 people in my party would have substituted salmon for a different option. Aw well.. don't want to waste food. Third red flag: nothing labeled to differentiate who ordered what. Spent like 7 minutes in parking lot before getting frustrated. Lady clarified.. all good.. When I inquired if they call us when stuff was missing the guy looked puzzled and said "We didn't call you?" He apologized many times and he was sweet.. but looking at the staff they looked nervous. Rightfully so.. but I wasn't mad, just a bit disappointed. Food.. so I took my first bite and the scallop was SUPER fishy and soft. Immediately upset.. i mixed everything else to kind of hide what I tried.. it didn't help. Half of it was super fishy, the other half was okay. There wasn't much fish so I guess that was bittersweet. I also followed up with my coworkers and they said the exact same. One even said her bowl was just bland. Would I come back? Maybe after a couple of months I'll try again.. but I wasn't super satisfied paying $18 for something I had to force myself to enjoy. Had the manager not introduced himself and tried to remedy the issue I'd probably say no, but him alone will have me at least giving it another shot. My advice, if you're going to take away options when you run out make sure you have someone updating the menu constantly to avoid hiccups. Not bad! I got a small box (2 proteins) - half brown rice, half salad with 1 scoop yellowtail and 1 scoop salmon. Plenty of food! I'm full! I thought the ingredients tasted fresh and I like all the toppings they offer for no extra charge. That's a huge plus! Their spicy poke didn't taste that "spicy", but man those jalapeños did the trick. My only cons are that I called several times and couldn't get a hold of them. I tried calling at 11:30am, just 30 mins after they opened and still couldn't get a hold of anyone after trying 4 times. I was trying to call them because I saw on their menu that they have yellowtail, however, they don't offer that option on DoorDash, UberEats, and Yelp's online ordering. Only when I went directly to the restaurant's website and ordered from there, I saw "Amberjack." Personally, I've never heard yellowtail be referred to as that - usually it's yellowtail or hamachi. But hey, you learn something new every day! For those reasons, I couldn't give a full 5 stars. But I'm definitely looking forward to coming back! read more

Been here 4 times now and that box seems to taste fresher and fresher every time that I get it! As far as mix-ins go, they've got a nice little assortment goin' on. Other poke spots have more protein options, but the proteins here taste so damn FRESH! Hence the name, folks. It's like a burst of flavor and freshness with each and every bite. I've gotten the small box twice and recently upgraded to the medium box. They def don't skimp on the protein here at ALL. They be loading' it UP and I appreciate it so much. The inside is always clean and bright. They have the cutest photo ops inside. Not a ton of space for dine in, but this spot seems to be very popular for takeout anyways. I also love the fact that you can order online ahead of time and they're also on Doordash. They have a boba tea menu as well but I have yet to try it. My go to has been their small poke box with two scoops of shrimp and half brown rice and green mix. Lemme tell you... it hits the spot EVERY damn time too. They have so many different sauces too and I love trying different flavors. Service is always friendly and efficient. The only thing that I would change is their hours. They close a lot earlier than other poke spots (I think around 7:00 pm?!). I know most people have probably already eaten by that time, but sometimes I can't make it there before they close after commuting from Oakland. Other than that, this place is golden. I decided to order the small which is two scoops of protein and I chose spicy tuna and salmon. You can choose any toppings. For the price you pay. I felt it was ok but still pricy for the amount but they back it in a small box so you are limited. I have had a small poke where the portions was much more for the price point. Another issue was the salmon was not cold and had a fishy taste to it as if not fresh. The service was not great as they do not acknowledge you standing there waiting to order. Wanted to try a new poke place to see if another can top my favorite local go to poke place. Came here and it happened to be happy hour from 5-7 pm which is buy 1 get 2nd at 30% off which was an amazing deal. The place is spacious and clean, lots of seating inside. The fish is fresh and a great variety of add ons to choose from. I felt that the employees all serve differently. They have tiny scoopers and noticed that others put more scoops of fish and add ons than others. I didn't get all the add ons because there are only certain ones I can eat. Also felt rushed, hard to understand the employees when they ask what we'd like while serving. Someone started to mop the huge seating area and we had to walk around to step on the drier area to get to a table. The employee mopping didn't really acknowledge us trying to get to a table without slipping or falling down (he just kept mopping but he saw us) and we finally made it after looking like we were trapezing our way to a table. They didn't have napkins luckily I had a clean one in my purse. Overall, the experience was okay, got my dinner to eat. The happy hour deal is definitely a great marketing tool. Would I go back? Fresh Box it's kind of a hidden gem tucked on the far side of Concord's Park and Shop. The employees are generally upbeat and fun and the food is generally very fresh, crisp, flavorful, and aromatic. The downside is that the fish is not always fresh. Sometimes it is very tasty and other times is completely tasteless. It's kind of a crapshoot which you will get at any given time.
