The ingredients are definitely fresh and "if" they are not too busy, they will do the cooking and serving for you. From what we gather, they are supposed to cook & serve it for you at your table. But I guess it got really packed and there were only 2 servers to cover all the tables. So.... after a while, we got hungry and just kind of started cooking it ourselves. Lol! Our stomachs couldn't wait. Flavors were nice and "clean" and you can try Roy taste the freshness and sweetness of the food, especially the seafood when it's steamed. Make sure you go mix up some sauce for yourself to dip the food in (or if you are doing the cooking, consider adding a little if that to the ingredients before it's steamed ). Tip: if doing porridge base: if u order a lot of ingredients, you may want to ask for a bit more rice grains since it is made with the steamed juices that fall from cooking your foods above. Otherwise, that long time spent on steaming will basically turn your porridge to soup. Also- if you choose the pumpkin (squash) in your porridge base, that will definitely sweeten the porridge and the flavor will strongly cover up any other protein ingredient Inside the porridge. We made the mistake of getting the pork and squash base porridge, and adding crab. The squash basically took over the porridge and you can not taste any of the crab. Oops! Wasted it. Lol! But you should definitely beware as you are ordering because they charge by the pound and don't actually tell you how much you are ordering. Long story short... we were a party of 5 and the bill turned out to be about $600. Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. The wait wasn't too bad for a Friday dinner (waited about 1 hour), you have to sign your name on a list near the entrance. The place is pretty small and gets crowded especially since it gets so windy in Daly City and everyone wants to wait inside. We ended up ordering a lot of food that the server told us that we should slow down because it was so much. The menu is 90% in Chinese with very little English, but our server who took our order did speak english thankfully. We ordered: crab, lobster, spotted prawns, cod, scallops, giant clams, wagyu, beef, shrimp balls, clams, napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, vermicelli noodles, jellyfish salad, and porridge. (we wanted to order razor clams but they were already sold out on a Friday at 7) Everything was fresh and they did have a DIY sauce tray that they bring to the table. I enjoy the concept of a steam pot. The only thing was that the server who came to cook our food for us (not the same one who took our order) basically ruined our meal. She overcooked our food (came to yell at me multiple times when i lifted up the lid), instead of cooking the scallops and giant clams in the shell, she took it out of the shell (which made it overcook more). I asked her multiple times if she could add the vegetables with some of the seafood and she said no because the cooking times were different. She just threw on whatever she wanted without asking us which item we wanted to eat next (did seafood, meat, then seafood). We didn't get the vegetables until the very end when everything was finished. She constantly kept piling food on our plates and mixing up everything - rushing everything for no reason. I also saw her do this with the table right next to us, and the girl told her to stop and she didnt listen - her plate became a pile. I would come and try this place once more because it is a unique concept and their seafood is very fresh, but i would avoid this server. read more

Good food, convenient location. I'm only giving a three star for several reasons: We were offered a freevdessert as a return for writing them a review. However when we got the bill, the dessert (worth $10) was still on the bill. The reason they gave was that all 6 of us, including one friend who was only here briefly, have to write a review. I don't mind writing a good review but also do not want to be forced into doing it. Other than this their service quality should definitely be improved. Before I stepped in I was warned by rumor that it being pricey for the food it got, well, i can tell you that it is very truth! So the idea was to steam your food with water, so that all nutrients stays in and food taste great. There is a couple problem with this restaurant: 1) serious attitude issue; we went in right after they have opened, just 2 tables at seated at the time and we were asked if we had reservation, we didn't. It looks like it pain the server to spare us a table. (At the 40-50 minutes we ate, only 3 more table was taken) 2) they expect you to know everything; so being my first time trying this new thing it is pretty obvious that I didnt know what i had to do, the great looking sauces (which there is only 1 set, and we were rushed to make our mixes before it had to go to other table), the server never bother explaining to us the concept or how things work with their method. 3) the prices, if I remember correctly the big shrimp is $50/lb, and that's about 4 pieces. Market price, I will say between $25-35/lb. Other things included, expect to pay about 3 times the prices you would pay else where for the same amount of food. I spend about $130 for 2 person, and we were both not full. During my dinning at the place I kept hearing the employee & appear to be friend customer bragging their seafood's freshness, I seriously want to laugh because for us Chinese who came from Guangdong, freshness is not an unfamiliar thing and honestly their food is just average quality. OK, so you still would like this try this place out? I am gonna tell you this, you could do the same at your house, for maybe 1/4 of the price, with even better quality food and whats the most important thing? It ain't hard either. read more

I found this place from reviews and honestly I was somewhat discouraged from visiting at first because there were a lot of negative ones. A lot of people apparently had a problem with this place's prices and service, but I decided to give it a try and throw a little bday part for my wife. It took me around 40 mins to drive here so I was really hoping that this place would impress me, or at least be decent. As soon as we entered the waiting staff took notice of us and seated us. Just goes to show how ignorant these reviews are - the waiting staff and overall service here was excellent. They were very helpful and courteous, and even did the whole happy birthday routine and served us some cheesecake on the house after we finished. Really happy they decided to give us that treatment. As for the food... I can honestly say that it was AWESOME. I don't mind paying a few extra $s so long as I get what I'm paying for, and here I did. The scallops had this amazing sweetish savory taste that melts in your mouth. They also had some interesting flavors popping up here and there due to the way they were cooked. I was really surprised by the food, given most of the poor reviews for this restaurant. It is expensive (my party of 4 spent almost $160), but the food is above average compared to other hot pot places. The hot pot here is a little different, though. Instead of having a pot of hot soup and cooking your own portions, the soup pot is actually located under the table, so as the waiter helps you cook all your food, all the juices seep to the bottom, thereby creating your soup base at the end. The soup does tend to get greasy, depending on what you end up ordering, but really tasty nonetheless. From my experience eating here, everyone loved the oysters, pork belly, and spareribs. Just keep in mind that when we were there, the restaurant was pretty full, so the owner sent us to Dim Sum King for alternative seating. (No, you can't go into Dim Sum King first if you're trying to get more comfortable seats there.) read more

As we were given the menu, I had thought that we could order what we each wanted, but it did not feel like that. My friend ordered vermicelli noodles, and so I wanted to order some for myself, and right when I wanted to order a second order of noodles, I was told that I could not which I thought was odd, but whatever. I also ordered Fish tofu which we NEVER received, and it almost felt like were not allowed to cook the food ourselves which is the point of a hot pot! What I didn't like was they didn't know whether we were done or still eating but one of them was pouring the rest of the food into our plates without even asking if we wanted more or no more? Lastly the whole entire time, we just felt like out of everyone in the restaurant, they didn't really acknowledge us. Just remember being careful when ordering!!! -2 points to the waitress. I and my husband went there last month. The lady (with straight long hair) who took our order seemed to be either the owner or the lead waitress. It was our first time being there so we asked the waitress for recommendations on the amount of food we should be ordering. She was very condescending and was like 'no it's NOT ENOUGH and you need to order more' the whole time and made us quite uncomfortable. We ordered 8 dishes(cost $220!!!) and ended up wasting half of them which to my opinion is a total failure to the waitress who should have made fair recommendations to her customers.
