That's not a good sign but I thought it was because I came after the lunchtime crowd and before the dinner crowd. During my time in here, a handful of other people came in to eat. I dug into each dish before snapping a photo. I like that they serve dim sum all day and night long. Each employee that I came into contact with were friendly from the beginning to end of my visit. They use MSG and I know this because I've been so thirsty even hours after eating here. I ordered: Baked pork buns (3 pieces)- 2.5 out of 10. There was a good pork to bun ratio. There was a funny taste that I can't describe. I've had many pork buns in my life and this was pretty bad. Chicken feet (4 pieces)- 6 out of 10. It had a good texture but I've had better. Turnip cake (lo bak go 3 pieces)- 8 out of 10. This tastes exactly like other places, though a bit smaller in size. Sesame ball with red bean (3 balls)- 6 out of 10. I used to love this restaurant and was a loyal regular here. Dim Sum King used to have the best service and food in the area, but the quality has completely dropped lately. It is clear that something is seriously wrong with the current management. The service has become an absolute gamble. They are frequently understaffed, and some of the newer staff members are incredibly rude. In particular, there is a short female manager with glasses who is constantly moody and aggressive. I've seen her literally yell at customers for simple requests like asking for takeout containers. The only saving grace on the floor is the older male servers who have been there a long time--they are still very kind and professional. The food has unfortunately become a 50/50 hit-or-miss. I've been served meat that was either completely dry and burnt, or practically raw. Other times, the dishes are overpoweringly salty. On top of that, cleanliness has gone downhill, and I've even found old food residue stuck to my plate. With the prices they are charging now, you would think the quality would stay consistent, but prices have gone up while the food quality has plummeted. Don't bother with the weekly specials either; they frequently make up excuses and claim they ran out. Just a heads up for diners: the restaurant stays busy because they frequently host large celebration of life parties due to the nearby cemeteries, so the dining room can get incredibly inundated. I hate to write a harsh review for a place that used to be my favorite, but it has been so disappointing. I hope higher management reads this and fixes these glaring errors. Came on a Saturday at around 12:45pm during busy hours. Wait was about 30-45 minutes to sit down. Can't really complain about wait time, just means the establishment is very popular. Tables have a clean sheet so if you drop the food with your minimal experience with chopsticks you can pick it up and eat it. Food is excellent and service is great. They don't do the push cart and you order from the slip which I think is really to just save space and squeeze in more tables. Now obviously there are your basic go tos such as shu mai, steamed spareribs, etc but what we need to look at here is the duck! Whether you choose the roasted or Peking duck version, both are solidly tender and delicious. Don't expect the Peking Duck to have super crispy skin without the fat but it's still delicious. I haven't been back here since they remodeled the restaurant quite some years ago. The trick I learned is to reserve a room, they have at least three private rooms that I am aware of. The rooms require a minimum of two hundred dollars for the bill. That can easily be made with eight plus adults that eat dim sum. We actually made it with additional orders to take out because we only had five adults and three children that didn't eat much but then again the adults had to keep up with me, lol. Their steamed chicken feet which I forgot to get a pic of were real good, that's probably why I didn't get a pic because everyone grabbed it as soon as it arrived, their bean curd skin wrapped veg was also a winner but all and all, most of their dim sum items were pretty exceptional. This is a very popular place so coming early or later after the crowds have tapered off is advisable. The tripe and cold chicken feet I pretty much polished off by myself. Party of 2, we went early in the morning on a monday and were seated quickly. because it was early not all menu items were available, but our waitress pointed out which sections of the menu we could still choose from. we ordered: tripe, tofu skin rolls, chicken feet, shanghai soup dumplings, and chive dumplings. STAND OUTS: *the Tripe was great, well-flavored with green onions and had the perfect tripe texture that we were looking forward to! *Tofu skin rolls were good as well, had more mushrooms than you would get at a take-out dimsum spot and tasted high quality. *Chicken feet were delicious and tender, with a mild and enjoyable amount of spice. The shanghai soup dumplings (xiaolong bao) were not great and had opened up before we ate them, so there wasn't actually the soup part inside. I think they may have been over-steamed? Chive dumplings were not bad but nothing special; I have had better from take-out dimsum spots in SF. Overall good, I remember liking their other kitchen items (that werent available due to our early timing) and would have gotten jook (rice porridge) or stir fried veggies if we had gone for lunch. Very pleasant and relaxing music was playing and it was nice to have a sitdown dimsum breakfast after having been out in the fog. One of the few Cantonese comfort food left. Dim Sum King is unique in that they serve Dim Sum all day in addition to the traditional Cantonese dishes with a few contemporary spin on some. Located inside a strip mall, parking can be a challenge here and being up on a hill those seated closest to the door will feel the draft every time someone walks in or out. Their Dim Sum menu is pretty complete; from the traditional Shrimp Dumpling, to Lotus Wrap Sticky Rice Chicken, to fresh made Rice Noodle with your choice of filling, to pork bun.. they got it all. Their rice porridge was a traditional dinner soup portion enough for a party of eight. Their Chicken with Pig intestine was tasty and their Roast Duck with Truffle was too salty to eat on it's own (even with rice noodles it was too salty). Price wise, it's inline with other places and they do add a service charge to your bill. Staff here are plentiful and no problem flagging down a waiter/waitress for water or refill our teapot, and they clear out the empty dishes quickly. As with most typical Chinese style restaurant, you'll need to raise your voice to be hear across the table, and overall cleanliness is not the best but acceptable. read more

I had a great experience at Dim Sum King overall. Most of the dishes were excellent, and a few really stood out. We ordered several tofu dishes, and they were all fantastic. The braised tofu was especially delicious, super soft with a perfectly balanced sauce. Their beef tripe was also a highlight, authentic flavor with the perfect texture, not too soft and not too chewy.If you enjoy intestines, their stewed beef gizzard is a must-try, along with their chicken feet. And you absolutely cannot skip the durian puff, it's one of the best items we had, so generous when comes to durian filling . We also ordered the half duck. It was decent but not great. The meat was juicy but a bit on the fatty side, and the skin wasn't crispy the way it should be.It would be nicer if the skin had more crunch and if they provided more cucumbers and a slightly sweeter sauce to balance the flavors. Not everything was perfect, though. The steamed tofu skin rolls were a bit too oily for my taste. The Shanghai dumplings were the biggest disappointment. Its skin was thick and hard, the filling was dry, and they just weren't juicy at all. The beef rice noodle rolls were okay, though slightly under seasoned when comes to sauce. The service here is truly impressive. The servers are attentive, experienced, and thoughtful. They check on you at the perfect times, and we never had to ask for anything twice. They even have a service call button at the table, but we barely needed it even though it was a full house . It's very comfortable dinner with my family.
