Friend of mine put me on to this place. I ordered the 5 piece jumbo shrimp, and Chicken wing dinner. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. The jumbo shrimp were actually JUMBO shrimp, HUGE & delicious!! The chicken was seasoned properly and fried crispy. Next time I'll be ordering the fish--they have many different types of fresh fish available. Not super expensive, given the portion size... definitely a new "favorite spot"!! During my Coronavirus lock down I've decided to try a local spot whenever I don't feel like cooking. Ok so maybe I don't ever feel like cooking =) I had a taste for beer battered fish but couldn't find it so catfish nuggets was next up. Their fish and chips are a pretty decent size. This is certainly a good value for the money spent. My con is taste. I just need some seasoning on this fish. Maybe a dash of salt in the fries. Having to take my greasy bag of food to the kitchen to add dashes of seasoning is not what I paid for. On a positive... this dessert was killer. The banana love is an interesting concept. Seems like a whipped banana pudding used on top of yellow cake. Complete with a vanilla wafer on top. This is absolutely amazing. read more

I ordered the catfish dinner along with the catfish steak. Had it cooked to order. For starters the breading for the catfish nuggets was awful. The nuggets were over cooked. And last but not least I got really ill after eating and had a severe case of diarrhea. The only thing good about this place was the customer service read more

U Buy We Fry! Passed this place a thousand times and have always wanted to stop and.... ...today was the day! There are a couple of U Buy We Fry places in Detroit but this one seems to be the crown royal; always busy with it's tropical decor and neon lights. As you enter the joint, the fish smell hits you. The place is a huge, open space with a counter and frier in the back. There are couple of seats and pictures of famous people line the wall which include P Ditty with J Lo, Donald Trump, and some Fox 2 New Reporter. As for the fish, they offer a huge variety including whiting, orange roughy, ocean and lake perch, bull dog (carp), catfish, shrimp, rock bass, and tilapia. The options are fish n' chips or sandwiches. Depending on the fish they may freshy filet it for you. I decided on the steak of fried fish and selected orange roughy. At 6.79 for fish and chips - it seemed like a steal. The taste was surprisingly good! Nice crisp batter and fresh fish. Fries are thick but a little soggy. Comes with wheat bread, tartar sauce and frank's hot sauce. This place has a private lot and I probably will return again when i need my fill of fish n' chips. On my last handful of trips downtown, I have noticed their sign advertising gumbolaya. Yep, a gumbo/jambalaya collab. It's not cheap ($15+ for a quart), but it's good! The service was also nice and friendly and the place is immaculate. I plan to go back to try the hush puppies and crab cakes. Wish they sold cornbread. read more

I passed this place many times over the years and was always curious to stop by but never had the opportunity. That chance came a few months back when I wasn't able to find crab legs for my Mom at Meijers, who wanted to surprise my Dad with some crab and rice for dinner. I took a chance and checked Fresh Fish House out. Parking lot is a bit tight to navigate and making a left can be a pain with all the cross traffic. But it was worth it to find out that they do indeed sell crab legs there and the prices were pretty reasonable. I'm not sure if the "U Buy, We Fry" applies to crab legs but that wasn't an issue since my Mom would be cooking the crab legs. It was worth the trip to see the smile on my Mom's face when I came home with my bounty. Plus it's nice to have a fish place for those in the city to go to w/o always having to venture out deeper in the suburbs. read more

My mother likes getting her occasional fried fish from here. It's pretty good and not too far. Ordering a fish sandwich will give you a good number of pieces of fish. Haven't tried the rest of the menu. I recommend calling in your order since ordering in house can end up being a long wait. A few times during the holidays , we called, no one answered but only to find out the place was closed while driving by even though it was during their regular hours. I was so disappointed with "fresh" fish. This fish so passed the point of fresh. I purchased white bass, which was rotten. The side of the fish which it was laying had been cut off during cleaning. Upon return the loud smelling fish, I was told "when the fish has been laying too long it gets mushy so I just cut that side off". My response was, " Yes when it is rotten and you should throw it away not try to sell it to someone ". Why can't your fish market just appreciate its customers, and refuse to sell anything but the very best. PS, I would never buy anything already cooked when you can't trust the raw. read more

I order for my office when we have our monthly staff meetings and the food has always been excellent. Of course, with a group, some order roughy, shrimp, etc. So we have had just about everything they offer. My only complaint is they used to give packets of Frank's red hot sauce and now they give cheap hot sauce in a cup. But they sell Franks in a bottle at a reasonable price so it isn't the end of the world. Neighborhood fish market with a few upscale choices. You can get your fish fried while you wait. Nothing fancy and reasonably priced.

I was out running errands with my dad and he suggested that we stop at the Fresh Fish House to get some seafood. I have to say I'm glad we did! We both ordered the Wednesday special of shrimp dinner for only $7.99. The food was excellent and fried to perfection. The staff was very friendly and very helpful in helping us to decide what we wanted. I will definitely be back again. Been craving those delicious shrimp ever since! read more

I was always curious about this place because they had a tropical tree decor, like the street in front of the Basilica, Punta Cana, Higuey, Republica Dominicana. I'm not a heavy fish eater, but after about 5 years I went into the joint because of an advertised window display. I look at their selection of fish, and everything looked good on first sight, from cruising the counter. They had the largest of everything to include lobster tails (my fav) reasonably priced. I really did have much to spend (typical of the hood), so I got the Wednesday Special. From the service I got, you would have thought I was a special dignitary. I got better treatment on that Woodward-Tuxedo location than you get from national chains along Jefferson Ave. near Belle Isle. I usually go to the one on 8 Mile & Wyoming. My wife loves the shrimp. I enjoy the Crapies & Blue Gills. I'll get an Orange Roughy sandwich when im on the run. The food is good. I wish they would move closer to my house. :) read more
