This happened to be one of the few restaurants open on New Year's Day so this is where we went for dinner. If you like wings and rib tips and things like that, then this is your restaurant. We both got the fish and chips dinner and it actually was a great size portion and delicious but the service definitely was "service with an attitude"

Half rack with wings and collard greens at Sweetwater Tavern, Detroit

A classic joint in the Bricktown neighborhood, it was not at all busy on a Tuesday night. Our party of 12 had the back dining room to ourselves, which was nice once they found the remotes to turn off the blasting television. I'd like to say that they have a great beer list. What they have is lots of bottled options (no drafts) and it took FOUR tries of "We don't have that" before the waitress said "Yes, we have that" to my ask for a Red Stripe after the others were out. Appetizers were good. The ribs on the plate were overly sauced and the wings were great. I enjoyed one fried mozzarella stick (with ranch dressing) as well. I wouldn't suggest the grilled shrimp as there isn't much to it. For main, I chose the half rack of ribs with wings. The wings had a good spicy flavor and were not loaded in sauce. They were overdone and a little tough. The ribs were decent. Too much sauce and not as tender as some I have had elsewhere. Checking with my tablemates, they found some challenges and some wins. Where we had no problem getting drink refills, one simply could not catch our waitress's attention. One complained that his burger was dry. My tablemate enjoyed his "Big Pig" pulled pork sandwich but it looked like too much sauce to me. I'm not sure I would return to Sweetwater. The menu says they have the best "award winning" wings in Detroit. Having not had wings elsewhere, I'd wonder about that competition. [Review 478 of 2025 - 385 in Michigan - 24040 overall]

Get the chicken wings.. this looks like the typical football bar to watch the local team. We can here for lunch. They have this blurb about award winning wings and I was like yeah right. Only one flavor so you just get their recipe. Let me tell you these were the best wings I've ever had. My biggest regret is not getting more. I also got the chicken salad Michigan cherry which was also good. This place isn't fancy so no need to wear your Sunday best. Get the wings!!!!

I have very high expectations when it comes to wings, and I have to say, as far as Buffalo wings go, this is right up there with bar bill. Tender and juicy with every bite. Taking a star due to the sides of greens and Mac being less than stellar.

Everybody told me they had the best wings and I had to see for myself. It was my first time and the wings were actually really good. They only have one flavor and it was solid. I got seasoned fries on the side with Bleu cheese and everything came out hot and fresh. There was a guy named Will who worked there and he came off extremely rude when we first got there. He tossed the menus on the table and was even arguing with the bartender over three hundred dollars right in front of customers. Thankfully my actual server handled the rest and she was very nice and attentive. I will definitely come back to explore the menu more. Parking is limited but there is a paid lot right next door.

Went here on Saturday with my boyfriend to try their infamous wings. They were as good as the people say. Seasoned with a burst of flavor and sauce had a mild spice to it. If you don't like too spicy of wings these are perfect for you. The ranch and blue cheese were rich and tasted home made, but I'm not sure. Our waitress was on point (forgot her name but she had cornrows/braids). She was super busy, but always found time to check on us and gave us great service. Our food came out quick and fresh. Unfortunately, they were out of rib tips but hopefully I can order when I visit again. That was the only downside. The space is a bit small so it can fill up fast. But overall a cool tasty spot to try if you're visiting in Detroit.

Sweetwater has been voted the best wings in the City so I made my way over. It was very divey, exactly what you would expect from something with tavern in the name. The wings were not super crispy, and they only offer one sauce. I wish it had a bit more kick or alternate options for their sauces. Its a good wing and unfortunately I didn't try anything else, so I would be open to trying out other menu items.

My youngest son and I arrived at the Sweetwater Tavern around 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon with the Lions playing at home. We were promptly seated. Most of the bar (employees too) were enjoying the Lions game. That didnt deter from the service. The menu was extensive but I had to land on the wings, since that's what they were known for. Wings were very meaty, tasty, and recognition was well deserved. Fries were seasoned perfectly. Our waitress was extremely nice. Overall if you are in Motown you need to go to the Sweetwater Tavern. It's a great vibe with great food options and service! I'll definitely return.

In town for a concert and stopped in for a drink because this place looked cool and local. The moment we walked in everyone was friendly and we had a blast. Got a drink and then saw the chicken wings and the awards so, when in the D. They were awesome! The dry rub and marinade made those wings outstanding. Pissed we only got a small order. lol. Highly recommended must stop when in Detroit. Go out of your way to visit.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. Service was great and we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday despite not having a reservation. Food and drinks came out promptly and timed perfectly. We spent about 1.5 hours here and we never felt rushed.

There wasn't any color which would presumably come from the mango and it just tasted like lime. Everyone liked their food though and had leftovers. Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance transported me to a beautiful Mediterranean garden, with its gorgeous tiled floors, lush greenery, and warm, inviting atmosphere. It felt like a refreshing escape right in the middle of Detroit's historic cobblestone streets. It was the perfect setting for a long-overdue reunion with my sorority sisters, and Supergeil was incredibly accommodating, hosting our group of 14 women in the middle of Grand Prix weekend without missing a beat. We kicked off the evening with a few appetizers to share, including the hummus, deviled eggs, and meatballs. Everything arrived quickly and was an instant hit around the table. The standout was definitely the hummus, served with fresh, homemade pita that was unbelievably soft, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The meatballs were also delicious, perfectly tender, juicy, and well seasoned. For my entrée, I ordered the popular lamb and beef döner, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The portion was generous and beautifully presented, overflowing with crisp vegetables, fresh lettuce, garlic sauce, hot sauce, and the most tender, savory lamb and beef. Around the table, others enjoyed the Turkish ravioli with spiced beef and pork, more döner, and a variety of salads. Everyone loved their meals, and we couldn't resist passing plates around to sample a little of everything. It's the kind of restaurant that's perfect for sharing and enjoying with a large group. And what would a girls' night be without cocktails? If you're a fan of Two James spirits like I am, you're in for a treat. The bartenders create incredibly inventive cocktails from a seasonally rotating menu. I stepped outside my comfort zone and ordered the Open Kettle, made with coffee infused Doctor Bird Rum, cola reduction, coconut cream, and Underberg. It was unlike anything I've ever had! It was rich, tropical, complex, and with just the right kick. It's an absolute must try. Another crowd favorite was the Purple Gang, featuring lavender vodka, lemon, and butterfly pea tea, which gave it the most stunning purple hue. To finish the night, we ordered all three desserts to share: the burnt sugar tres leches, strawberries and cream, and the hot brownie with cinnamon ice cream. My favorite was easily the tres leches. It was light, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the crunch of burnt caramel and the subtle sweetness of coconut, it was a creative twist on a classic dessert. The warm brownie with cinnamon ice cream was pure comfort and a chocolate lover's dream, while the strawberries and cream offered a lighter finish with sesame brittle and hibiscus, creating a unique combination that reminded me of an elevated granola paired with a glazed donut cream. From the beautiful atmosphere and attentive service to the creative cocktails and delicious food, Supergeil delivered an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're planning date night, catching up with friends, or celebrating with a large group, it's definitely a spot worth adding to your Detroit restaurant list.
