I like fresh taco. There are a lot a dumb reviews about how this isn't "authentic" Mexican food. It's literally not, I'd consider it it's own category...let's call it Chexmex. Owned by Chinese people, these styles of fast food restaurant were all over the city in the 1990s. It's really no frills, super cheap and honestly delicious. I would not come here and order seafood. Or anything else elaborate for that matter. I come here strictly for 3 ground beef crunchy tacos served with lettuce tomato and hot sauce for $8.50. They're like tacobell style but have a hand made quality to them which makes them very unique. I would take away one star but I'm just gonna leave five bc their yelp page needs some love, but it's just sort of annoying that they're cash only in the era of Apple Pay. Look I knew this place was gonna be bad when it felt exactly like a Chinese takeout place, but this exceeded my expectations in the wrong way. It was horrible. I ordered a burrito and it came out like a pita gyro wrap. The tortilla was thick like that. Like why even have a burrito on the menu if you're not gonna do it correctly? This joint is staffed by Chinese people making tacos and burritos and such. What blew me away are the prices. A 1.25 for a chicken taco, I am down for that. While there the workers were taking about my girlfriend and me. I suspect they thought we would not be able to understand but we did. It wasn't anything bad but kind of rude to be doing so in front of us. This is pretty much a hole in the wall with a few seats. I was about to double back out the door when I saw that this joint was staffed entirely by gruff Chinese folks; nevertheless I decided to give them a chance. My conclusion: Mexicans can make some kick-ass Chinese food (just look at who works in the kitchen at most restaurants...) but it doesn't seem to work out the other way around. Eating a chicken burrito from Fresh Taco was a surreal experience and not one I would recommend. Sure, they have cheap prices - but you'll get what you pay for. Food is okay tbh, I've been wanting to order from here because people on Google were throwing shade towards the other tex-mex spot in the area (Happy Fresh Taco) regarding the name being very similar. I will say, right off the bat that the other guys are way nicer over the phone and don't try to rush you off. Anyway, even if the food was A1 I wouldn't order from them again. The driver was rude, didnt even want to come out the car and ring my bell but had the audacity to look at me after he gave me my change as if he was expecting a tip, lol no honey that's not how it works. The soft taco was trash, I know it's tex mex so I wasn't expecting authentic tortillas but why are y'all making tacos with thick ass pita like bread? Nasty. Chicken and rice was good but I'll stick with Happy Fresh Taco. The manager there is very nice, they accept credit/debit, their menu has more variety, the food is cheaper and most definitely better and I never have to deal with rude delivery drivers. When I first moved to New York I scoffed at restaurants like this. Fresh Taco in particular annoyed (frightened?) me because of their neon sign promising $1 burritos. Not even 7-Eleven would offer such an absurd bargain. Then I got over my elitism. Isn't America a melting pot? Isn't the blending of cultures and cooking styles what our country is all about? So I went here with my girlfriend one time with the sole objective of sampling the dollar burrito. It wasn't bad. It was actually sort of delicious. Do you know why it only costs a dollar? Because it's a taco. Stay away from are the quesadillas. They are the same kind of quesadillas you made in the microwave when you were ten. We have found our new fave take out place! My girl and I tried this place last week and have fallen in love. The amount of food you get for the price is amazing. The Enchilada dinner special is 2 enchiladas of your choice, mexican rice,black beans, a nice side of guacamole and a very refreshing cucumber salad. Toss in a cup of hot sauce (good hot sauce not that watered down stuff in the packets),sour cream and a lemon wedge and this will set you back 6.99! Everything as the name implies was very fresh. I tried the paella the first time and while not in the league of a good Spanish place it was still very fresh tasting and for the price alot of food. Also if you spend over 10 bucks you get a free taco, over 15 a free quesadilla and over 20 2 tacos. Cheap. Fresh ingredients. The 99 cent burrito is actually a chicken soft taco with grilled chicken, a smattering of lettuce and a sprinkle of cheese. Not unique, but a reasonably healthy snack. Better yet is the black bean soft taco. For the same price you get nicely seasoned black beans with your lettuce and cheese. Either way, it is a nice alternative to Taco Bell without costing more than the "hearts and parts" beef products. The best Mexican food you can get after work. My colleagues and I usually order from Fresh Taco if we are staying late to do work. I always get the grilled chicken tostada salad. It comes in a box with amazing sauce. I don't know what they put in the sauce, but I am hooked. I wish I could buy the sauce for my salad. The tortilla on the tostada salad is amazing. I can't describe the taste, but the salad and the sauce and the bread together is like heaven in your mouth. They also have tacos, which are pretty good. They are not as good as the tostadas dishes though. If you cannot finish the tostadas dishes, you can order the special taco which is also made with the same flour tortilla for the tostadas salads. I usually have them deliver to my workplace, and it comes within 20 to 40 minutes. Delivery service is pretty decent. Food is fresh and warm when it gets there. That being said the rice is not up to par since it taste like uncle bens with yellow coloring but the meat had flavor so you have some hits and misses. The food here is probably the best "Mexican" food you can find in the area. I recommend the chimichanga special. Its by far my favorite. & the guac...I'm obsessed. I order the big container for myself lol. The only issue I have had is with the delivery guy. There's normally 2 guys that delivery. An Asian one & a Hispanic one. The Hispanic guy is very nice & humble. The Asian man however is a completely different story. He's rude & nasty. Makes side comments if you don't give him a tip. When clearly it says they do free deliveries & he comes in a car. One day I ordered my food, the Asian guy came & he was VERY rude. He made it a whole situation. It was so bad that I had to call the restaurant to put complaints which I hate doing but it was long overdue.
