Yesterday we were in the Apple Valley Fresh Thyme and they have converted to only self check out. Should have just left my cart and walked out. Poor service if not even given the option to use traditional check out lane. read more

After moving from out of state, this is the best substitute we've found so far for our long-time favorite Sprouts Farmers Market (no locations in Chicago). Definitely not the cheapest, but good selection of natural and organic foods and health/beauty products. Don't come here if you're looking for big brand processed foods (Doritos, coke, etc)! We come here regularly simply because it limits temptation and it's more cheery than your average grocery store, and then supplement with a target run where needed. Main gripes are 1) oddly limited selection in some areas (really, you don't carry blocks of Monterey Jack or Mozzarella cheese?), 2) occasional out of stocks on some items, and 3) some items that are oddly pricey vs other stores (love Dave's Killer Bread, but I am not paying $7 for it!). read more

I fell in love with Fresh Thyme when they opened in Fort Wayne, In. Their produce, and sushi were my favorites. The stores there were great, no issues with anything, and I could always find great prices. I was thinking of trying the Elston store, but from what I have read, I am leery of going there. It is equivalent to Trader Joe's , but with a better selection. I'm hoping that one of the other stores gets better ratings. read more

I've been in here a handful of times and every time it's just an awkward experience. The employees have not been outright rude to me like at jewel but it feels as if I'm bothering them. Or during the entire checkout process not one word is said, so I'm not sure when they are ready for my credit card, if the payment went through etc. super awkward. They have things I would buy but I'm not trying to feel uneasy while giving a business my money. Trader Joe's has a lot of similar products and their employees are friendly and helpful. read more

Whenever I come here I tend to spend way too much time wandering around picking out delicious items. The first time I came here was because my friend and I really wanted blueberries for a smoothie but couldn't find any anywhere, so as a hail mary attempt we stroll into here, aka fresh fruit heaven. Granted their prices are a little higher, so far everything I have purchased from here has been worth it. They had a selection of blueberries to choose from when no other grocery store did! A SELECTION!! needless to say whenever I can't find something at my nearby store I will come here because most likely they will have it. read more

I have been going to this store since it opened, my experience today is enough negative that I will never go back. I have shopped at other stores and the Sprouts store in Las Vegas, without ever an issue. Today, I went to buy groceries, there was a sample station with fresh berries and cheese. I bought the cheese (fontina) and pulled it out of a box priced $2.99 at the sample station. After purchasing, I noticed it rang up for $4.99, so I asked for a manager. LaTonya, the manager, came to the front and I asked about the price and showed her my receipt. She said, "Let me see the cheese" so I started digging through my full shopping bags trying to find it, very frustrated. She disappeared, so I went back towards the sample station and found her there. She stated, "Let me see the cheese", so I angrily yanked my bag out of the cart and began to dig, she replied with a "Oh my God." She said, "No, just tell me what cheese it was", even though the receipt clearly stated Fontina. I said, "Fontina" and she asked again, I again said, "Fontina!" She told me it was not $2.99, but she would give it to me for $4.99. She then took me back to the register and said again, "This is NOT $2.99, but I will give it to you for $2.99, which it's not." I have never been treated so poorly, it was not my mistake, it was theirs. I did not feel the customer service was supporting me, the consumer, when the product was being sampled and misrepresented in price. I was treated as though I was creating a problem by even bringing it up. Any other store I have been to will gladly fix the price, especially if it is mismarked, and provide an apology. I wanted to return my entire purchase that that point, I was so upset. The customer service here is horrible, beware. On top of this, half of their produce is rotten, wheat grass was literally light green and overgrown, the brussel sprouts and the cauliflower was rotten, a significant amount of the yogurts were expiring in 1-2 days. This place used to be fresh, now I find that half of it is rotten before you can even eat it. I watched someone stocking produce pull rotten pieces out of a basil package and throw it away, then put the product back on the shelf!!! The quality at this store has gone way down. I really hope this store can turn around. Until then, I will be going elsewhere. read more

I've been back in Chicago about 6 months. I've been to Fresh Thyme approximate 67 times. I think I like it. Scratch that - I love it and I find reasons to come here, it's like the antithesis of Mariano's/Whole Foods with all the organic stuff, good prices (yes, they are) and none of the bullshit. Every time I go to Fresh Thyme and no one crashes into me in the parking lot, or in the store, and I can get in and out in the middle of the afternoon without having to question WHY people think drinking wine and grocery shopping at the same time is a thing one should tackle (there is no way to push a cart one handed and just sit and relax and enjoy the wine for godssakes!) -- then it reinforces my love affair with this place. You'll find me here on most days because at the age of 34 I decided to stop ordering delivery 5x per week and learn to cook. So far I've mastered pork carnitas and potatoes. Stay tuned! *bring bags, they charge the bag tax like everyone else has to AND its good for the environment. *great beer/wine selection. *rotisserie chickens are the jam. read more

My first experience going there last weekend. An employee walked over to the snack dispensers put her hand directly into the box, grabbed a couple of chocolate covered snacks and popped them into her mouth while proclaiming "see nothing, say nothing" aloud. I am no merchandising expert but it seems to that banana chips don't lend them well to scoop into bag type of disposal, half of the banana chips were broken into pieces by people trying to scoop from the vat. The atmosphere can be described as dull and dreary at best. That said, the cherries I bought here were sweet, fresh and consistent. read more

After shopping at Trader Joes, Aldi, Target, and even Marianos for years here on the northwest side of the city, I am so happy Fresh Thyme is here. It is my family's favorite store. First things first, their app makes my life easier. My wife and I use it to add items and can both see the same list when we go shopping and check things off as we go. The deals are constantly changing and keeping us interested in different items at a good price. There are free snacks for kids and little carts to keep them sane; Rx bars, bananas, apples, and more! The layout is logical and small enough to not lose your party if you are shopping with someone else. The brands and house brands have great products in nearly every category. We love getting a slice of pizza while we go and it really is the most enjoyable experience. The staff is more helpful than I have found at other stores and there is always someone in site. The cashiers are experienced and kind. They give stickers to my son and never seem like they rather be somewhere else. My main critique is that some of the products prices are much higher than local competitors and seem to be random. The products we buy that are overpriced tend to be Califia , Sabra products, and many of the frozen products like pizzas/burritos etc. We love it, but wanted to post a review here , because I feel like if any store would respond positively and run a critique, it would be this store. read more

I love this store and shop here about once a week. That being said, there is ALWAYS a discrepancy between sale/clearance prices and what is rung up on the register. So much so that I now keep a running tally and sometimes take pictures of items just so they don't have to call for a price check. Last week I grabbed a bottle of kombucha out of the cooler by the register that was marked for 2.50 and it came out to 3. Because it was jammed, it took several minutes to get this confirmed while the line grew. Today I corrected 4 different items, fortunately it wasn't crowded so it wasn't as embarrassing. Blood oranges were on sale for 1.99, but rang up as 3.99; gala apples were .99, but rang up at 1.49. These are minor differences, but they add up if you're not watching, and I'm usually shopping the sale items anyway. This happens almost every trip! Otherwise the employees are super friendly, it's clean, and I enjoy shopping here. I wish they would fix this situation. read more

Fresh Thyme is a chain of natural grocery stores, and it's fantastic for some things, but there's not enough variety for me to complete a full grocery trip. To me, it's similar to Trader Joe's, where a large number of items are private label, however they also carry some of the popular natural, organic or imported brands. You'll find great weekly sales on fruit and vegetables and Wednesday rotisserie chicken deals. Usually one of those or the $2 pizza slice brings me here. It is especially amazing when you get a piece out of a fresh pie. You won't find the large food brands here or everyday low prices so it doesn't replace Jewel or Mariano's, but it's a nice addition! read more

The customer service I got at the cash register was so awful,one of the other employees apologized for it.Obviously,this other employee knows that the cashier I unfortunately ended up with is an evil person.The cashier was so much in a hurry to leave the store,they borderline didn't check out all of my groceries on my debut visit.They was rude and intolerable period.No cordial greeting at all period.You would think that I have actually did something to this person I have never seen before a day in my life ladies and gentlemen.I don't know what that stank attitude was all about period. read more

I am excited by the opening of this market. The location is super convenient along Elston Ave by Home Depot and Target. I have been growing so sick of Mariano's for various reasons I won't get into here, and I welcome the option for new and different things. This market has tons of produce and really unique items all focused on health and wellness. Prices for some things were cheaper than typical grocery stores, some things were more expensive so on the whole it's probably very comparable. I was able to score some ground boar (they also had goat, bison, and other game meats!), some wonderful fresh produce and sunflower seed butter without added sugar (you have no idea how hard that is to come by). They have tons of nuts and other snacks in the middle including cashews and dark chocolate covered raisins. I will say the selection of organic produce was lacking a bit, and they didn't have the type of milk I drink (unsweetened coconut milk), but I realize that is being a bit picky. I don't think this is the type of place you could switch to entirely for all of your grocery needs on a weekly basis, but it's close. And the best part is that it's not crazy packed. I have never felt so relaxed walking around a grocery store as I did here. read more

So glad this place is here. When compared to going to whole paycheck the experience deserves 5 stars. The parking lot is nice and new and big and easy to access. The produce is always fresh and good and organic and cost effective. Their house brand is excellent. So many gluten-free / organic / non-GMO / pasture raised / grass-fed options. Great section of trail mix and dry foods which is nice. So many yogurt choices, and dairy in general. This is a very well stocked and well run store which really leaves little to be desired from a person with my tastes and health goals. They have a prepared foods section, bakery, liquor and beer section and a bunch of soaps and toiletries. Although not a true one stop shop for me, it is pretty close. Also there is a Target within walking distance. I am so glad this place is here, the staff is always very friendly and helpful, they understand when I am waiting behind someone in the check out line, they should open up and ring me up rather than bag the person in front of me's groceries. See if that ever happens are Jewels or Mariano's even. Store is always spotless and someone always seems to be cleaning something. read more

This is a welcome addition to my neighborhood. It's a little like the poor woman's Whole Foods that sells diet coke. Fresh Thyme is relatively small, and has a relatively small selection. Despite this, their selection is top notch. They have many staple items and normal brand names. However, they also have a nice selection of small, high quality labels. Their bakery is really small, but the baked goods they do have are amazing. Especially their danishes. Fresh Thyme also has a very small selection of prepared foods and this is where I think they could use some improvement, by having a larger selection. overall a great place with friendly and helpful staff. read more

I'm in the store at 6:00 AM when they open and it is a joy to shop there during this crazy COVID time. I can get in and out without the worry of bumping into people at every turn. I've been shopping here for a couple months now, and it's good and bad. The store layout is crammed, and is difficult to move around when it is busy. I love small stores, but I feel the way it is laid out, makes it difficult for traffic to flow smoothly. The deli employees are always slow. Nobody every really checks to see if anyone is standing at the counter. they're usually prepping something and not paying attention to much of anything else. The butcher counter is a much better experience. always someone there willing to help. I always find their chicken, while inexpensive, is not the greatest quality. I have even had woody chicken (google it, it's a thing) on a couple of occassions. Lastly, I am not too thrilled with their inventory of general grocery. Similar to Trade Joe's, Fresh Thyme carries a lot of off brand, and private label, products. Their selection is not as broad as other stores and when I do go I always wind up having to go somewhere else for literally one small thing. Their produce is amazing, and I have not found anything better near where I live. Their pricing is also fair to an extent. You'll find better pricing on certain things, but not others. Ultimately, that is what keeps me coming here, and why it's not a one star review. If you buy a wide array of specific products, this is probably not the best place to shop at. If you are a simple shopper who buys the basics then I think Fresh Thyme is a better option for you. read more

Good selection of organic and local products. I've been going to another local grocery store and their produce has declined over the last few months. Here I felt that the produce was fresh. The deli and meat counters are a bit smaller but have a good selection of meats. I was surprised they didn't have much wild caught fish but I'm sure they're still trying to figure out what items will sell best them. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market opening day. Grocery stores to me are like amusement parks to children. They have a huge produce section with a focus on organics. It was pretty crowded but from my time there I thought they carry great products like Organic Girl. This may become my regular grocery place. Time will tell. Really love this place as an alternative to Whole Foods. Prices are much cheaper and there are plenty of organic and vegetarian options. Great baked goods, bulk maple syrup & apple cider vinegar, higher quality yogurt selection instead of those no fat high sugar brands. If you have young kids and they are picky eaters they have a variety of nutritious organic snacks. Tons of different teas, nice vitamin and holistic lifestyle items all at competitive online prices. They have almost everything I need except the wine selection is so-so. Not many options under $10 but enough to get you by in a pinch. Favorite grocery store besides Strack. read more

I wish I can rate 'ZERO' star as I hope that they learn and improve their service from this comment. I was at the store looking for a specific product on Sunday (7/26/2020)AM. When I saw a lady stocking up the shelves close to cashiers, I asked her if she knows where I can find a product (I will skip the product name). She said it's in the freezer section. I told her that I already checked there but couldn't find it and asked for more help. She repeated herself with the same response and I could feel that she wanted to ignore me and get back to her stocking job. I said OK. thanks! and walked back to the freezer section alone. I couldn't find it. I walked around to find other staffs for help and found two employees; one male and one female. They were very busy chatting and laughing but definitely were not working. I waited a few minutes and asked for help by starting with "Excuse me... " nicely. They were not happy to be interrupted in the middle of their important conversation at work. I asked if they know where this product is. The female worker said she doesn't know without even thinking about it and went back to their conversation. When customer is looking for something that they could not find, employee must be trained to either help that customer to find it or direct to customer service who can help. Chatting & laughing while getting paid at work, makes the store look very unprofessional. Two other employees by the produce section actually walked me to the freezer and tried to look for it with me. Just 2 out of 5 people actually tried to help, does not sound like a good customer service based store. read more

I was sold old salmon that was rancid. Purchased on 10.19 and the salmon was labeled with use by date 10.21. It was smelled rancid by 10.20 to the point it had to be thrown away as it smelled like rotten meat/garbage in the fridge. The salmon itself also smelled fishy and rotten. I do not recommend purchasing "fresh" seafood or meat from here. read more

We're craving for some home made pizza so I will make it since I know how you made it. I just needed an ingredient and I went to this shop. I bought 1 package of active dry yeast, canola oil, all-purpose flour, 1/2 pound ground beef, 1 can of tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, 1 medium green pepper and shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese. I have sugar, salt and onion in my house so I didn't buy it. Luckily, I didn't wait long at the counter since there were only a few customers inside. Their service was great. I ask help from one of the staff and they will immediately help me in finding the ingredients that I'm looking for. I highly recommend this place. read more

Meh. That about sums this place up. The bakery has gone way downhill since first opening. The meat selection is small and i'm not sure how I feel about the quality. The produce is good as is the beer/wine selection. The only time I shop here is on wednesdays when the ad's double up. Sometimes you can score some good deals, otherwise everything is overpriced. This is a great new market, heavy on the fresh produce, dairy, bulk items and proteins. It's an excellent place to focus on what you should be eating and avoiding the middle of the store (as the packaged items are only about 1-2 aisles). It has a really big parking lot and isn't stressful like nearby Mariano's on Elston where the lot seems to bring out the worst in people. The staff is also really friendly and helps you find exactly what you are looking for. read more

Came here opening day and again the other night. I was holding out on a review, I wanted to see if after all the hub bub of their grand opening died down they were going to be the same amazing store with really great prices they were during the first week. Did not disappoint. I dragged a friend along with me this time around and I quote, I have "opened up a whole new world" for him. Then he started singing the theme song to Aladdin. I kid you not. Handmade sandwiches in the deli Sushi chef Nice salad bar Love the soups... Dips, cheeses.. Tons of organic everything. Ask for something and requests get passed up to the powers that be. They have a ton and keep adding Fresh Thyme brand items. Like a mini Trader Joe's The weekly sales blow the competitors away And when you check out, the staff is aways nice! Great store! The fresh nut butter selections are well priced and delicious- honey roasted peanut butter-- yum! They have great bulk products, good deli meats, great produce, packaged foods-- it's simply a great place! It's somewhat limited if you're comparing to the big stores, but it has a variety of products -- also wonderful staff/ customer service! read more

Back in January, I bought Fresh Thyme brand organic milk. I came home and it smelled really badly so I returned it. I stopped buying milk at Fresh Thyme. Then at the end of March, after the stay at home orders were in effect, I went back to Fresh Thyme. I bought milk there because I didn't want to run around to other stores. Well, that milk was bad too. I stuck it in my freezer to return it when I went back. I went back today. They refused to return it or give me my money back. They did give me another milk which I haven't opened yet to see if it is spoiled. I asked them if other people were having issues with their milk. They said yes that the milk has had issues and other customers have said it was spoiled too. So my question is, why are they still selling it?! A store that finds it acceptable to sell spoiled milk is not a store for me. read more

Great selection of healthy products, produce section has a nice variety of items, if you're looking for fresh squeezed juice, they have a great selection. I personally recommend the deli and soups made daily, great prices and delicious. Bulk nuts, seeds, and candies at your fingertips!
