So, few issues: 1) female employee working behind flower/balloon area was on her phone FaceTiming with the speaker on for everyone to hear - could not give AF 2) at self checkout, I was charged for all 3 Twix bars when the deal was buy 2 get 1 free (used my rewards card). I only noticed when I was leaving the store and was in a hurry. Not enough time to go back in and deal with it. I know the Twix thing isn't the end of the world, but it's so common practice at this store to have "deals" that actually don't translate to checkout. I should also mention, always check the expiration dates for things. Often times they are past their due dates. read more

I like this Mariano's because there is much less foot traffic compared to the location on Lawrence, I think mainly due to location. I went here around 5pm on a Thursday and was surprised at how quiet it was! The layout of the store is a little funky, but I will say it's incredibly clean. They had a great selection of produce and most items were well stocked which was nice to see! I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to come to this location over the one closer to me, but I'm glad I was able to experience it. Keep in mind you can only make a right turn out of the parking lot, so if you live North it will add a little time to get home. read more

They're not just unhelpful--they're downright rude. And don't even think about browsing too long because the security treats you like you're about to steal a cart of groceries. Once I was able to finally place my order and go pick it up, only once I arrived did I find out I was supposed to drive up the ramp to go get the groceries. This store is admittedly clean but the customer service is lacking. Prices are fair but issue is finding cashiers. It seems you have a better chance locating a security guard than a store associate to help or check you out. I won't be going back. Hopefully management makes changes. read more

If I could pick a grocery store to live at, I'd pick Mariano's. I mean this place has everything! From groceries, to a hot bar buffet, pizza by the slice, sushi, a bar, and even a piano player setting the mood! They have an awesome selection of food items, cheeses, organic produce, and pretty much all that you can think of that a grocery store should carry, and then some. There is even a seating section where you can relax by the fire place and listen to the pianist play some tunes while eating your meal from the hot bar. It is a little bit pricier than your standard Walmart or Target groceries, but not by much. Did I mention that they have an awesome bakery department? Catch me by the donuts and cupcakes all day errday. One minor mishap that happened during my visit was with the rude lady working the wine bar last Saturday afternoon. It just so happened that their registers were offline and credit card payments weren't going through. So we put our food down at a table that had someone's jacket and chicken wings on it. Turns out it was the bar lady's chicken wings that she was sneaking bites out of in between customers. Bar lady wanted us to go get tables upstairs and when we explained to her the situation that we had to wait to get properly rung up, she walked away with an attitude, chicken wings in hand. This is the closest Mariano's location to me, so I am here almost every Saturday morning stocking up on groceries for the week. This and most grocery stores tend to be ridiculously crowded on weekend afternoons, so I normally make it a point to get to this location early. When I get here at 7:30am/8am on a Saturday morning, the parking lot and store is nice and empty. Mornings here are so peaceful, and everything is fully stocked. Since I normally need a little caffeine in the morning, I sometimes will grab a cup of coffee from the coffee bar near the front of the store. The coffee here actually tastes pretty good, and the prices for the basic coffee is cheaper than Dunkin Donuts. This location has the extras such as oyster, sushi, and wine bar's. The produce section offers a great selection of both non organic and organic items for sale. The meat and fish selection is impressive. This store stocks countless cuts of beef, and some varieties that are grass fed. I've also never had issues with the freshness of the fish like I've had at some other grocery store chains. This is a really good and clean location to visit for your grocery shopping needs. read more

Hello! I am a frequent shopper here at the Mariano's in Bucktown, as I live a few blocks away. I have noticed the level of customer service slipping and 99% of the time, I let it go and stay quiet. Today, while I was buying a few items during a time which I rarely shop, I was provided exceptionally unprofessional customer service. It's mind boggling to me that this continues to happen. A cashier myself many years ago, I always recall stopping what I was discussing and shifting my attention to the customer. A simple "hello, how are you today?" goes a long way from a cashier! In today's case (and like mostly every other time), I didn't receive a simple "hello" and was treated like I wasn't even there. Not only did the cashier not say anything or acknowledge me, yet she proceeded to speak to her 3 co-workers about breaks, what time breaks were occurring and other items not pertaining to me. I was visibly frustrated, bagged my own items and not one person apologized or asked me what was going on. Everyone watched this happen and the cashier yelled back at me, when I addressed her in a nice tone. I really can't believe this is the level of service I am getting in what used to be one of the best stories in the city. Can you please train the team to pause, stop talking to their co-workers and just pay attention in the moment? These small things are critical to the customer experience. Thank you! read more

In picking a Mariano's, it can be hard when there are four within 15 minutes of home. Well the Bucktown Mariano's may be pulling ahead for me! First things first, Mariano's as a whole is a great chain. They open at 6am on weekends which I enjoy greatly. I'm a morning person who likes to get up and get the day going! Doing my grocery shopping first thing when the world hasn't awoken just yet, that's my jam. I love big store prices but hate the crowds. This Mariano's has a good sized ground parking lot but I always finding myself parking upstairs where there is far less congestion. Anything to make my life slightly easier! Mariano's Bucktown has~ +A wine bar! Glasses of wine were $7-10 while beers were $3. Not bad at all but just bottles for beer which was disappointing there were no drafts. Not the most amazing beers I've seen either, mostly standard craft options with one cider. +Good cheese selection with great prices. +Awesome craft beer selection, including a huge grab & go create your own 6 pack. I was stoked on this option! ....until I saw they had no packs for actually making my 6-er. I didn't think bringing up loose bottles would fly, so sadly I got no beer on this trip. +Sushi Bar! Prices didn't seem terrible though they weren't heavily discounted either. +The usual Mariano's bakery with a nice array of baked options at good prices for the consuming. +Cute seating upstairs and it looked like the coffee there might be free! Whaaaaa. +Juice Bar +Gelato stand +Todd's BBQ Stand +Oyster Bar Be sure to go online on Friday and add their freebie coupon to your card! Seems to be our go to market as of late and a relatively newer grocery compared to some of the other options in the area. Plenty of parking and is accessible off both Ashland and Webster. The first thing you'll notice on entering is the bar near the main front entrance. They seem to always have a $3 special and yes you can walk around and sip. Their fresh produce is a hit and miss in my opinion. Some items much fresher than others, but I'll say they seem to have quite a number of specials which is great. Their meat department also has a lot of selection, but when it gets busy it's a little chaotic and they don't always seem to stick to the numbering system. On the other hand they do also offer a free grilling/cooking service which I thought was cool. Near the meat department, there's also a oyster bar which I never seen used. Cool idea, but doesn't attract many people. Their liquor selection is decent and they have a walk-in fridge to hold even more beers. Beyond the fresh produce, meats, and alcohol is where you'll find the packaged goods. Anything and everything from juice, eggs, frozen goods, dry goods, and canned goods for whatever else you might need. Definitely sign up for customer rewards membership (free) to take advantage of all of the different savings throughout the store. That's all I got on this one! 'Til next time, cheers! read more

If you want halfway decent produce (not 'good', by any stretch...just 'decent') you need to get to this store before 6:30 on weeknights, otherwise it will be picked over, nasty, or just plain non-existent. You have to go on a weekend? Don't do it! This place is awful on weekends! Also, don't expect to get really ANY of the prepared foods after 8pm...everything gets put away 2 hours before closing. Seems like this could happen after they close so the salads, hot dishes and sushi are still available for purchase until closing. It doesn't. I guess the employees need to be ready to sprint out the door at 10pm. That's another thing...this place has TERRIBLE customer service, rude and skeezy employees and poor management. Well, really, everything comes back to the management. The last time I thought management was okay (again, not good...just okay) was roughly 9 months to a year after they opened, which makes sense as that was right around the time they were bought out by Kroger/Roundy's. I will admit, I feel like it has slightly improved over the last few months (hence the 2 stars instead of one) but it had nowhere to go but up, so of course it was going to get better. I don't bother asking any of the High School Harry's and Harriett's working anything...they're less than useless. I look for the clerks who look old enough to check out my alcohol purchases or have checked out my alcohol purchases. Otherwise, I'm wasting my time. Two stars because it did have some food. Otherwise hands down this is one of grossest, poorly trained, poor run and overall lacking grocery stores in the city. Most produce is bruised and comparable in price to Whole Foods. So why shop at this shit store? Most shelves unfaced and garbage in the isles. When this location first opened, I can't tell you how excited I was. It's a grocery store that serves wine and beer when you shop! How much better could it get? Nowadays, that alcohol is more of a necessity than an amenity to get through the aggravating crowds, empty shelves, and lack of staff knowledge. On several occasions, they have been out of key produce such as jalapenos. I have had to make trips to other stores just to get items I need. Customer service is not great either. One time, when I was looking for a particular cheese, the lady working at the store just told me that she was new and didn't know where things were. I ended up having to search myself. Another time, I needed to pick up my groceries that I ordered online and the cashier had no clue where that was located. Oh and this online service.. don't even bother. It sounds so amazing in concept, but it's a bit frustrating in actuality. For example, 5 of my eggs were broken and the produce they picked for me was near rotten (e.g. bell pepper had big black spot). The only departments that are truly saving graces are the fresh meat dept and bakery. Those folks working at the meat counters are the most knowledgeable and awesome at their jobs. Plus the meat and seafood are always delicious. Unfortunately, grocery stores in the city are just not awesome so it's not like I can boycott the store. read more

not generally a complainer like this, but my experience today was seriously frightening and infuriating.  my and other's health and lives are put at risk by the situation i witnessed in this store today. I was using a self checkout and there is a worker station right next to it, like touching the checkout i was using.  a woman working there at that station kept taking off her mask and talking to coworkers who were also coming over to that station with no masks, coming in very close contact with not only her but just a couple of feet from me. I made a comment about people needing to stay 6 feet apart and she said (without her mask on) "oh, you're fine", SNIFFLED, and then put her mask back on.  then on the way out I noticed workers chatting close to one another, some without masks. in light of the pandemic we all face, this is incredibly unsafe behavior.  the worker station being so close to the self checkout is also unsafe, particularly if the workers are going to be congregating around it without masks on. please. PLEASE! do something about this. lives are very, very literally at risk. read more

At 6:18 pm I arrived at their soup bar and was disappointed to find that it had already been long closed despite having a sign that said it closes at 7pm. I ask one of the employees and they said they need time to clean. I said shouldn't you clean after it's closed? Which they proceeded to say they didn't want to stay that late. This location has had one-way signs in place for months and never, not even once, have they ever been enforced. The aisles are narrow and it gets very crowded on weekends. Even the workers walk in the wrong direction. If they're not going to set an example and follow the rules, why would the customers? It's so frustrating. I just don't understand it. Prices have skyrocketed since the onset of the pandemic. I pay 20-30% more buying the same items I always bought pre-pandemic. So it's not like Mariano's doesn't have the money to have a few extra workers on hand to direct all the idiot shoppers are either too stupid to read signs or just don't have any consideration for anyone but themselves. read more

So, I used to love Mariano's and was okay playing a slight premium over Jewel and Target for the cleaner stores, better product selection, and customer service. Well, none of that exists at this location. The Kroger purchase has really sent this chain down the drain. What pushed me over the edge today was checking out. I had a product that was open. I asked if I could get another one. He said sure. He finishes ringing up and I ask about the product. He said, "Oh. You'll have to go get it." So, after buying my groceries, I had to walk all the way back to the corner of the store with the frozen vegetarian food with my stuff. If I wanted this nonsense, I'd shop at Jewel or Aldi. Convenient store while living in Bucktown Wicker Park but I will start shopping elsewhere as they are constantly out of staple produces such as greens - lettuce, arugula, leeks etc. The managers are receptive to feedback but I haven't seen any improvement. This review is for the deli. I'm writing the review because direct store feedback doesn't seem to help. One big fat health code violation. While it's super convenient, I won't go back until they resolve the nasty. Meat and cheese bits all over the scales and counter attract flies and gnats. Inside the food case the bottom shelf has open containers of meat, grease and wet paper. Can someone with the company please follow-up and clean this location up? I have another Mariano's location that's closer to me (Chicago and Ashland) and stopped going there because of similar issues. read more

Unfortunately, the freshly squeezed orange juice that they sell is no longer that deep rich orange. It's a much lighter color and it's watered down. Very disappointed not purchasing the orange juice at Marianos any longer, as companies cannot be hurting that much bring back the real orange juice, especially those who need the extra nutrients!!! read more

They say once you've reached the top, the only direction you can go is down. And Mariano's has gone down hard. Maybe they set their own bar too high, but everything that made them a standout store seems to have faded away. Worse though, they've become unable to do basic things like keep enough shopping carts in the store, have shelves stocked, and open enough checkout lanes during busy times. I'd probably consider this a "normal" store now, except I've seen what it used to be like and what they used to be capable of. read more

What can I say about this grocery store is just that it is a nice and good option for my groceries among the groceries I know near my place and I can say that it is not the best because just like the other grocery stores, the store also have some bad sides more like negatives sides which is really inevitable and sometimes it was just fine for me and I am used to it as long as I got my groceries with all of them in a good condition and in a good can be sometimes high quality. When it comes to their selection so far, I never really had a problem I could get everything I needed and I wanted excepts for times that the store has no stocks literally no stocks of some particular products for some reason while the prices are just fine definitely reasonable and they also have sales from time to time in a limited products and the staffs are quite fine too, not rude nor friendly. read more

Clean big store with parking lot on ground level and on 2nd level. Plenty of rich folks who shop here and stock up; I'm all good with that I guess. There seems to be a huge number of African American employees here for some reason. So many that it seems totally unfair to other races, creeds etc.. That's the part that is unfair. Do they all live in that area , so what's the deal? I also noticed that most are black women of a certain age, is that also some kind of age discrimination to those above a certain age? New to the Chicago area and heard good things about the Mariano's chain. Let me tell you: this is the most mediocre grocery store out there. Absolutely not worth the hype or the price tag. I'm not sure if it's the whole chain or just this location but I was completely underwhelmed by the selection, cleanliness and the staff at this location. I went on a Monday evening and the produce area looked like an apocolypse had hit - half of what I wanted was gone or incredibly picked over. Next I couldn't find any fresh guac (only prepackaged kinds?). Then I got to their meat counter. Don't be fooled by its size: the staff working couldn't care LESS about their jobs. Multiple people helped me and it was all wrapped haphazard and leaked in my fridge. The chicken was sitting in a pool of juice that looked gross. Lastly, we got potato salad and it was awful, so awful. Save your $$ and your time: go to Whole Foods. read more

This is the perfect place to go shopping and also for those looking for such a great experience and awesome service in shopping. This Mariano's has lots of good selection of fresh veggies, fruits, meats, and etc. Their items are always up to date and new, their inventory is so huge, they have the most important items that we need in our daily essentials and also for supplies. They also have international or imported items, unlike other stores that the items are limited. I like the huge selection of this Mariano's, especially with their ready-to-eat foods. Their store is very organized, clean, and lit. You can easily find all the things you need because they are so responsible in sorting and cleaning their store. Their location is so perfect, it is so easy to find, they are so near to other landmark around the place. You can go anytime you want like early in the morning, late morning, afternoon, or even evening. But I will suggest that you should go early for you to avoid the long lines. But their cashiers are so fast, so still you can checkout so quick. I highly recommend this Mariano's to all of you, especially to all of my friends and family. I love this place. First off, let's just establish that this is a grocery store. It's purpose is utilitarian and it serves thousands of people a day, many of whom are often hungry and would rather be in any place but the grocery store. So if you're coming to this Mariano's or any other grocery store expecting the red carpet to be rolled out for your arrival, check yourself. All that being said, this place has everything that 95% of people will ever need and it is almost always exactly where you would expect it to be and when it's not there is almost always a worker who will gladly tell you exactly where it is. The produce, when I'm there on a Saturday morning, is almost always pretty fresh. Do they always have the exact lettuce I want? No, but I imagine that is often out of their control. The reason I love this place so much is because my kids love it so much. We have a weekly ritual of going here after piano lessons and grabbing lunch from the deli while we're grocery shopping. My son loves the salmon and the potato wedges, my daughter is a huge fan of the Mac n cheese, and I usually get the veggie rolls from the sushi section. We sit upstairs where there are tables and chairs and enjoy a quick post-grocery shopping family lunch almost every Saturday. It is sometimes the best part of my week. Did I mention their donuts? Stop going to Dunkin' and pick up a dozen of the bakery donuts here. They're delicious. We've also had great luck with their birthday cakes. They have a big catalogue of awesome themed cakes that have always been a hit with the kids and the adults have always commented on how tasty the cakes were. Are there long lines for checkout sometimes? Is self checkout confusing at times? Sure. You're at a grocery store in 2023. Why are you expecting anything else? They're trying their best, and I've found that if you're nice to the cashier and the person bagging your groceries, they'll be nice to you. Also, just a quick PSA, if your cashier doesn't have a bagger helping them, bag your own groceries for God's sake. It's not difficult and it will save you time and keep the line moving. Enough said. When this store opened, it was such a joy to shop at. Fresh food, helpful happy staff, a new grocery store concept. My how times have changed! The staff now is hostile, the soup and hot bars are dirty, the produce looks almost diseased, common items are nowhere to be found, and you could easily get run over in the parking lot. Mariano's Bucktown has been on a downhill slide - the hill is steep and the speed fast. By becoming a generic Kroger's, it has so lost its appeal and nice touches. And then there is the service and personnel. Can't understand why Mariano employees are allowed to sit out in front of the main/front door and smoke, yell with each other or on their cell phones and eat. The smoking is disgusting and against Chicago ordinance since it's so close to entrance. Oh and this is before you get in the store. Once there, their willingness to help you seems non-existent. Been the only person in line at the deli, with 5 staff behind the deli counter and no one helps. Then when someone does, their attitude is seems that you're bothering them by asking for something. Any service given seems cold and distant. Does not make me feel welcome or that I want to come back. And the store's cleanliness continued to slide. And then the pricing - the mistakes are everywhere. For example: 128 oz juice - regularly $3.99 on sale $2.99 64 oz juice - regularly $1.99 on sale $2.99 Yes it's one example but there are many more. So go ahead Mariano's and continue on your path. There have been other Chicago grocers who were hot - then lost touch, like TI and Dominick's. Get back to your roots! read more

Oh my, this place gets a star because it's better than not being there. This location would have been my neighborhood store if I had stayed in Bucktown, people there deserve more for waiting so long. Upon entering, I was excited to see a display of strawberries on sale, upon looking over several containers I took a pass, each had moldy strawberries in them. This is when a deal is not a deal, moved over to the blueberries, no mold but they also looked sad. So after that I skipped the produce. Needing to just pick up dinner after a long day I headed to the salad bar, maybe something good there. Also a no go, did they bother to wash the lettuce, the folds of the romaine had dirt in them, not just a little but big chunks. Whoever got this assignment must have been blindfolded or angry with their supervisor and decided not to work. The rest of the salad bar looked tired too. The store just didn't look as good as the others in the chain, and the staff didn't seem as pleasant. I can get over the staff, however moldy produce and dirty lettuce where you pay premium prices. Mariano's generally has pretty good baked items and a fairly large selection. I used to shop at Mariano's for some specialty items I couldn't find anywhere else. Particularly for items that my niece can consume because she's allergic to a long list of items. Since being purchased (Kroger I think) and expanding fast the feel of Mariano's has changed. A lot of the specialty items are gone from their shelves. You have to be in the shopper club to get the deals which I'm not a fan of. It's not a bad store - it's convenient, the staff is usually friendly and there is still a wide selection. I also never have trouble finding street parking in this area. This time of year they have the Apple Cider donuts that are really good and my team really enjoyed them. read more

I'm not sure Mariano's Fresh Market should be categorized in "Grocery" because it is ohhhh so much more. During my brief one day visit to Chicago, I needed somewhere to go that I could A. park my rental car at and B. use their internet. While driving by Mariano's I was able to see the seating in the window and figured it would fit the bill. Before taking a seat at one of their many seating areas I took some time to explore the store and enjoy the free samples. While wandering I happened upon some of the very cool features that take Mariano's above and beyond a grocery store, they included: a wine bar, beer at $3 a glass, an oyster bar, fresh smoothie bar, a walk in alcohol fridge, bulk buying, pre made meals, salad bars, and almost anything else you could imagine. The downfall of Mariano's? The parking, which is clearly an issue- as you can tell from the minute you enter the lot or just by reading past reviews. But wait- there is a solution, use the parking garage like ramp at the far end of the parking lot to take you to the upper parking lot- here I found ample open parking spots. And don't worry about parking on the second floor, Mariano's has kindly provided escalators for both you and your grocery cart! Mariano's is like the cool older brother to Whole Foods, and I'm really hoping they expand to New Jersey Forget about visiting the Bean or the baseball stadium- add Mariano's to your list of must see Chicago attractions. read more
