Don't let Frida fool you. Those beautiful looking desserts behind the glass are just the fake desserts, made of gelatin leavened whipped cream concoction covered in decorations. But, when you order they give you the whipped cream dessert to eat! Where is the real dessert that tastes like chocolate, fruits, and nutts? The show sample I was given just tasted like sugar and Cool Whip! Why did I just pay $5.00 for 3 cubic inches of Cool Whip? Frida fooled me once, but never again! This afternoon a couple of friends and I placed on online order for Frida's bakery. Initially the online order system seemed neat because we could sign up to "group order" and pay separately. While placing the order we noticed that items were missing off of the menu so it was disappointing that we couldn't get exactly what we wanted. That was an easy hurdle to get over though, as there is plenty on the menu to choose from instead. After placing our orders we received two calls to clarify our requests. The first was about a mocha latte that was ordered as a hot latte but apparently the system did not register that and they had to clarify. While on that phone call I asked if we had the option for curbside pickup. My request was met with a long silence and then the employee stated that they could "if we really needed it". Even though we were trying to be safe and keep our distance as we didn't have our masks on us today, it sounded as though they felt it would be an inconvenience. When we arrived we just walked in as I didn't want to bother the staff. We went over to the to-go pick up counter and while many employees walked by us no one offered us help. I flagged someone down to ask if our order was ready and she told me she was busy but had another employee come by help us. I told him I had a group order he went and found just my drink and sandwich as they were the only ones with my name on them. The group order feature doesn't really seem to be of any use honestly because even though we all placed the order under my "group" I had to request each order individually. On its own this would just be another small thing but all together things were starting to add up. When I got my drink the employee said that it was an iced coffee so I clarified to ask if it had caramel in it like I had ordered. He told me it didn't as the receipt that printed didn't have it on there. I told him I ordered it online but didn't have my phone with me as I had left it in the car. He then told me that "there was nothing he could do but I could pay an extra 50 cents if I wanted caramel". I'm not sure how it was my fault that their system wasn't working properly but at that point I just wanted to leave. We gathered up the rest of our items and headed out. When I got to the car I looked at my receipt guess who had the right thing on there? I understand that employees have to make sure people aren't taking advantage of them, but we had just placed a nearly $40 order and they gave me a hard time about a 50 cent coffee charge. Overall the food was still good, but the service is what makes me less likely to return anytime soon. I would also recommend making some adjustments to your online ordering system, it's a great feature to have but if it doesn't work properly it will just cause more problems than anything else. We are going through a hard time and I do appreciate the fact that you're open to begin with. I'm trying to shop small but I'll probably choose somewhere else next time. read more

Frida's Cafe is an incredible European style cafe and bakery. When you walk in you are literally overwhelmed by the choices and different pastries, cakes, donuts, breads. Also great sandwiches and coffee. Everything is made fresh on the premises. After drooling over the desserts pastries for a few minutes, I ordered the egg and cheese crepe which was delicious. The overall quality of their baked goods are amazing. They have a small area indoors to sit and eat as well as a nice size outdoors section. There is only counter service but they always have sufficient staff so they move people in and out in a very timely manner. Definitely worth the trip. read more

THERE'S SO MANY CAKES AND BABYCAKES! There's really something for everyone here. From sweets to savory items and drinks of all kinds. It's very overwhelming at first, but just take your time and look at all the pretty treats inside the case. They are all very reasonably priced as well and here I am with 5 more than needed treats on the way home to be eaten. I thought the baked goods were yummy and loved that I could small little cakes of so many different flavors from fruit tarts, chocolate, tiramisu, and so on. Thank you Yelpers for helping me find another awesome business! Frida's was definitely worth the drive down to Largo. When I walked in at first I was wondering where the sweets were. I walked around the counter and, lo and behold, I found the sugary treasure trove. All kinds of delectables lined up along the horizon. Pies, cookies, cakes, truffles, and all sorts of pastries called my name, but in the end I was fixed upon the Tiramisu. It looked beautiful and delicious, and the price was right. This treat was a triple threat. I'm happy to report that my Tiramisu was everything it appeared to be. The different textures of mousse and cake with the chocolate shell were a great contrast, and the flavors complimented one another perfectly. The only part of this dessert that caught me off guard was the small pool of brandy at the bottom of the shell. It definitely tasted half way to a cocktail, but I'm not complaining. Frida's also has a cafe menu that I intend to explore the next time I come here. If their sandwiches and soups are anywhere near as good as my dessert was then this is going to be a trip I'll have to make more often. read more

I had lunch at this Frida's, really wanting to come for the bakery. Who doesn't get excited for dessert? My sandwich was good. Not outstanding. After polishing off my plate I went back to the counter for take home items to include the gluten free chocolate chip cookies and a sample bag of pastries. That was yesterday morning and I've eaten cookies or pastries with every meal since. What I'm trying to say is. . .I think I love this place. It was getting busy as we left around 9:45am but I still didn't see a lot of waiting happening. The service was excellent. I also recently tried their ice cream coffee drink which was also good, they have frequent deals such as BOGO cupcakes and things. They have a lot of seating inside with some outside. Omg! The baked goods are slammin! I had the pecan cookie and coconut cake and all I can say is this place is a Real bakery! The pecan shortbread comes as a log about 2.5 inches wide 7.5 inches long and an inch thick. It is buttery slightly crumbly with some chew left to it, it is sweet but not overly so and has a hint of caramel in the melted sugar on top. The coconut cake I'm saving for later so I'll have to update you on the flavor but it is a beauty to behold! read more

Every time I get a new co worker, it seems like the first stop is always to Frida's. I originally was taken here by an old coworker. There is a lot of construction happening on Ulmerton, especially near Frida's, but don't let that deter you. They have two parking lots, so if the first one looks full, there is another one behind it. I have never had a problem getting a spot. When you order a sandwich or a meal of some sort, you always get a small dessert with it. The dessert changes daily. It is nice to have a sweet end to a meal. I absolutely love the avocado chicken salad. Don't be mistaken, it is not like an actual salad with lettuce or greens, but more like a chicken salad sandwich without the bread. It is divine. This dish alone makes me give Frida's 5 stars. I am salivating right now thinking about it and I just ate lunch! It is a little strange in color, due to the avocados, but don't let that stop you. Sometimes they have it in round plastic containers on ice in front of the register. I just stop by, grab one, and am quickly on my way. The desserts are absolutely fantastic too. They have mini cakes, which are the perfect size for two people to share (or one person to really go to town). I got the chocolate mousse cake and just a bite gave me a chocolate fix. I carried it around with me the rest of the day and snuck bites out of it. This is a really low key place with high quality food. You order at the register and then quickly get your food. Fridas seems to have a following. Some of the folks seem to linger as they just like being there. Don't blame them. It is a pleasant place. I was there twice this week. One day I got the chicken sandwich special. Just the sandwich was 7.99. It wasn't large in size. The chicken was organic and it tasted very different than the normal gmo, antibiotic, growth hormone type chicken you get elsewhere. It was more like a consistency of veal. It was good, but rather small and not fancy in presentation. Photo loaded. Another day I got the cronut and beignet. I've had better there. The cronut didn't seem to have ever been a croissant. The shape was square. I have had them many places where they take a regular buttery croissant, and then put it through a glaze like a glazed donut and then its served warm. This was probably cut from croissant dough but it didn't seem so buttery, then glazed, then served room temperature. For 2.99 each, its really not much more if any more than a donut. The beignets were round. More like big donut holes. Im used to the more square or rectangle ones there. This dough seemed like donut dough. It had little if any powdered sugar dusting. I would give what I ate 3 stars but adding a star as they believe in serving healthy food (if it isn't bakery that is), the help works hard, and the place is bright and cheerful. Next time I go I will order a salad. Those looked really good and presented in an artsy bowl. I like that you can order as you walk in and then get it yourself. No wait staff. That probably moves the tables faster and all benefit. The tip you put in a jar if you wish. They don't automatically add a blank line for you to fill out. The tables and chairs move. I like that as you can get more comfortable and have some flexability. I don't like it when you walk in and if someone is reading the menu they hand you a laminated menu. I hate handling menus and if it can be avoided all the better. I never feel those are clean and think of all the germs over them and here you are ready to eat, sandwiches, donuts, and other things with your hands. Sometimes its unavoidable, but when the menu is posted up above and on menu holders one can read without having to touch, Id rather wait and not have to touch something that everyone else has been touching before eating. Yes you can go wash, but last time there one of the kitchen helpers was in the toilet forever so id rather not have to run to and wash just to see a menu faster. They have 2 bathrooms, one marked women and one either men or women. That's a first for me. I guess though women wait longer so its fair, as long as the guy from the kitchen doesn't come back! read more

Oh how this location reminds of a New York style bakery and deli. I came in for breakfast and was warmly greeted with a smile and a hello. There was no pressure on placing my order as I was perusing the menu. Everyone I came in contact with was very friendly and accommodating throughout my experience. I ordered a ham, egg and cheese panini to stay with a coffee. It wasn't very busy so there wasn't much of a wait. The sandwich came out on a real plate and was dressed simply but very nice. And it even included a small turnover. What I really enjoyed about this bakery is you can watch the bakers performing their craft right out in the open. I was very impressed by this. The shelves and display cases were completely filled with a huge assortment of goodies. Unfortunately, I had to walk away from them for now. This is why I prefer local businesses. This place is ah-mazing! Beautiful big counter displays of their desserts, breads, bagels. Every time I've been here for lunch, the food is superb. I'm addicted to their Asian salad. They carry gluten free bread and desserts also. I just had the gluten free turkey and avocado sandwich and it was divineee! Their pomegranate water is yummy. And their coconut bread- WOW. I need that recipe!! I haven't had the pleasure to try their desserts yet, except for the gluten free stuff, and that was very good as far as gluten free sweets go! It's moderately priced, but well worth it in my opinion. Lots of seating available inside and outside and this place is always packed during weekday lunch hours. Today was my 3rd visit here, but didn't equate to the positive previous visits when it came to the food. The broccoli soup posted as a special was not available at all as of 10:40am, I was given many other choices. I was offered to taste the onion but chose a cup of the potato bacon. The cup was tiny, served with a small piece of spice cake, pricy and had a very disappointing thin watery consistency. I also ordered a sausage, egg and cheddar breakfast sandwich on a crescent. The prepared outcome was a microwaved sausage patty served on a raisin bagel with tasteless cheese and an egg so hot it burned my mouth (appeared to be microwaved too). For the price paid I could have gotten 1.5 of those at the golden arches and possibly a better chance of getting the correct bread requested. Regarding price, if I wanted a cheese and berry danish on the side I would have ordered one. So that said I recommend providing a piece of fruit or nothing at all and drop the price to fit what you serve. If you choose the house brewed iced tea be sure to order the amount you want b/c there are no refills offered. I have previously enjoyed the chicken avocado sandwich there and other soups they offer. Those are what I will continue to order or better yet their extensive amount of baked goods. The doughnuts look delicious and cookies defiantly rank 10 out of 10 in my eyes. Trying to read the chalk board menu was difficult to understand and the prices are not posted for those of us on a budget. I recommend reading at the menu displayed on the westside of the counter next to the register. The service was courteous today and the cashier at the glass display case sounded very knowledgable from the explanations and recommendations she gave to other patrons on the sweets. If you have a special event to get a sweet treat for try this place out, the variety is the best I have seen in Pinellas County- so that will be my choice of purchase if I go back and Yes Meh. Quite a few gluten free options: bread, a "biscotti" and raspberry jam topped individual cheesecake (which I had and was outstanding), a almond canoe shaped cookie with the ends dipped in chocolate (which my companion had) that was also outstanding. There was an individual chocolate cake that looked wonderful also. Others in our party had wanted breakfast and were told they were no longer serving breakfast. When one asked if they had anything "like breakfast" they steered him to a panini with eggs and fresh spinach, which he loved. Another companion also had a panini and loved it. I had iced coffee which was great. Rest in party ordered hot coffee which was great too. Woman running the place was not friendly and short when people weren't ready to order, but my server (a young woman) was kind and helpful to me. First visit since moving to the area a year ago to Frida's cafeteria style bakery and cafe in an area food desert. I was hungry for a simple oatmeal breakfast but none was offered at Frida's Cafe. I ordered the Garden Vegetable quiche. Heavy on the crust, it had none of the spinach offered and was only lightly balanced with tomato. I wanted more tomato. It was one-note in texture, heavy in portobello mushroom and no balance with onion or spinach. The Asiago cheese was negligible. Or was it supposed to be Swiss? It tasted reheated in a microwave. The egg in it was tasteless. It should have been an organic egg. Nothing fresh on the plate. Not even a strawberry. There was a piece of quick bread which tasted of cardamom. A sign says "Say No to processed foods" but that is all you see in the displays. A sea of donuts, cookies, scones and cakes! The cappuccino was late in arriving. Pretty average in flavor. The staff were struggling with an espresso machine on the fritz. I had to go to the counter twice, once for each segment of the meal. The bakery was heavily populated by tourists. The are baked gluten free options. They use natural hormone free chicken and roast their own beef and turkey. I wonder if they are humanely treated before arriving here. Perhaps I'll return for a luncheon salad sometime. Come to think of it, only a lack of other good local dining options would have me returning. They're a local hero for contributions to charities.
