As often as we have driven past this place, we didn't become aware of it until an ad with a discount coupon in the Sunday paper caught our attention. The ambiance is not quite as "European-style" as described - although the space is awash with natural light, the mismatched furnishings look like they were gathered at a few different yard sales - but there's an extensive menu of sandwiches, salads, soups, both hot and iced coffee concoctions, and fruit smoothies, in addition to the wide array of tempting cakes, cookies, and pastries on display, all of them baked on the premises. (Considering the area is heavily populated with seniors unlikely to utilize it, free WiFi is a bit of a surprise.) Sticking to our resolve to skip sweets for the duration of Lent, we settled for hot panini sandwiches - mine a Reuben as an early celebration of St. Patrick's Day, my mother's an alleged "Italian" despite the roast beef, Swiss cheese, and chipolte mayonnaise included with the Genoa salami. Easily a half-pound of meat and cheese was on both; my only complaint was that the corned beef on mine tasted like it had bathed in brine much longer than necessary (three hours after eating it, I'm still gulping water in an attempt to sate my thirst). With a hefty loaf of Irish soda bread to go, the total tab was less than $11. Gazing longingly at a creation called "Chocolate Suicide," my mother suddenly remembered that Sundays aren't included in the forty days of Lent, and therefore we could indulge without guilt. I assured her the Easter Bunny would leave one in her basket instead. The cakes seem reasonably priced at $14.00, although I have no idea if they taste as good as they look. I recently came across a post from Frida's Bakery advertising their King Cakes. Initially, I was skeptical, as the packaging resembled the dry, store-bought versions commonly found in grocery stores. However, Frida's Bakery promptly responded to clarify that their King Cakes are baked fresh in-house daily. This immediately piqued my interest, as freshly made King Cakes are not widely available in the area. Placing an order was straightforward. While all orders require payment in advance, I was pleased to find that Frida's offers a convenient online ordering system. This allowed me to securely complete my purchase and schedule a pickup time with ease. When I arrived at the bakery, the pickup process was seamless--I was in and out in under a minute. While at the counter, I couldn't help but admire the selection of beautifully crafted desserts on display. Each one looked decadent and enticing. As for the King Cake itself, it exceeded my expectations. The cake was incredibly soft, with a rich, sweet icing that balanced perfectly with the sanding sugar. Without a doubt, this is the best King Cake I've had in Pinellas County. Overall, my experience with Frida's Bakery was excellent, and I look forward to returning to explore more of their offerings. Amazing desserts, you just can't find this anywhere outside of a bakery in New York City. As a bestselling author and optioned Hollywood Screenwriter, I've traveled all over the world. I would rate this is something I would find in Paris however the breakfast just didn't do it for me. When I order scrambled eggs, that means scrambled ... with a fork or whisk .... not fried in a frying pan without scrambling .... that's not scrambled eggs. Bottom line if you're looking for authentic and genuine pastries this is the place to go. If you're looking for a place to have breakfast you might want to go to Maggie Maes instead. read more

DO NOT GET THE PROSCIUTTO HERE This review is based on two visits, an average of them. First visit was great, got the turkey and smoked Gouda panini. That and the apple turnover were great, 4/5. Second visit was horrible. I had the special, called the Dede sandwich. Prosciutto on this sandwich was extremely chewy, like leather essentially. I spoke to the clerk up front, who talked to two people, one of whom was the manager, and came back to say it was supposed to be chewy. Im not a prosciutto expert, but I've never had prosciutto this chewy or tough in my life. The fact that they didn't care made it worse. read more

I loooooove Frida's! Usually when I go here I spend about $40 and end up with a big box of cookies, small cakes etc. Their Almond Cookies are EXCELLENT!! I honestly haven't had ANYTHING from here that wasn't great. Even their donuts are really cool- they have a coconut one... mmmm! Cinnamon rolls are outstanding! Everything was delicious! Every time I went, I got my orders to-go, but they had plenty of room to dine in and a lovely outdoor dining space, as well. The employees were cheerful, happy to help, very sweet. I wish I'd gotten the name of the "traveling artist" employee who made my visits so much better because of her fabulous positive energy. I wish for her happiness for the rest of her days.

The ambience was nice and so was service, but that's where the good things end. This was a disaster and shameful that it's called French. Serving croissants and eclairs and putting French names to menu items does not make something French. We ordered a turkey omelette with eggs on top, an eclair, a chocolate croissant, a croissant with ham and cheese and tomato and lettuce, and a cream filled beignet. Let's start with the bakery goods. All bakery goods should be made fresh that same morning. The croissants, and pastries all should be flaky and taste fresh. These were hard as if they were all yesterday's leftovers. The filling on the beignet was obviously a Jell-O pudding mix, and definitely not homemade. The eclair for some reason had some kind of supposed chantilly cream and raspberry instead of the traditional filling, and both of those fillings were also all store-bought. The eclair was also stale and tasted like it had been in the fridge since yesterday. The omelette was an absolute joke. If you look at the picture I posted, my index finger was actually taller than the entire omelette which is supposed to be filled with ham and cheese as you can see from the post photo. The ham and cheese were also packaged meat and cheese as you can tell since they all were sliced exactly in the same way and same size and tasted processed, and the cheese wasn't even melted completely. The omelette was just incredibly dry and bland. The croissant suffered from the same disease. It was hard, not flaky, and tasted stale as if it had been made yesterday, and all of the meat and cheese was obviously packaged meat and cheese which tasted processed. This tastes nothing like anything you would find at any French bakery in France. In France. Everything is made the same day, and the moment it starts going stale and stops being flaky, is thrown away. This is an absolute insult to French bakeries. Even if you compare it to other American bakeries and breakfast places, nothing tasted good and for that price, it should. Definitely avoid this place. I know I will.

I took an assortment of their pies and one of their cakes to a family Thanksgiving (order early) and they were such a hit that one of my family members now goes there regularly. This is a small shop and they are very busy, so I would recommend calling ahead. So far, I love the key lime and my Mom loves the French silk. As in, buy a whole pie and freeze it so she can spend a month shaving off small pieces to enjoy. She was actually delighted and when I tried it, I had to agree that it was both very rich and melt-in-your mouth light at the same time. You won't be disappointed!

We ordered two large coffees, two ham, egg, and cheese open-faced croissants, and a blueberry scone. I wasn't used to having a breakfast sandwich served open-faced, but I'm officially a fan now. The croissant was flaky, buttery, and paired perfectly with the ham, egg, and cheese. Every bite was delicious. The coffee was exactly what we needed to start the morning, and everything together made for a fantastic breakfast. If you're looking for a cozy spot with fresh pastries, great coffee, and a relaxing way to start your weekend, this is definitely worth a visit.

I came up Cassis Market advertising pizza so I popped in and ordered on with pepperoni, sausage and ham. One slice came to nearly $7. The man behind the counter was polite but uninterested. He looked like he wished he could be anywhere but there. I took my pizza out to eat at their outside table. I took a bite. Man was it stiff. And that was at the point where it's usually the best part. I kept eating and crunching. No moisture at all. Some flavor but not enough to justify the cost or enduring the hardness. The ham was hard. The pepperoni was all curled up and looked overcooked. The sausage was just OK. I was hungry but I left half of it and threw it in the trash. It sat in my stomach like I had swallowed an anvil. Now I must say I selected this from a whole pizza in the display case. It was not a piece that had been lingering there for a long time. My slice was the first slice from the pie so I was taken aback by it's texture and hardness. Cassis Market - NOT recommended.
