El Mar Drive is closed to set up the concert so traffic can be a challenge in the area. The group tonight (The Weedline Band) was really good and they played "beach" type music to a large crowd. It has a seating capacity of 3000 and some pretty decent acts have come through since I moved down here, including Joan Jett, Tesla and the iconic John Fogerty from Creedence Clearwater Revival. That said, the venue's location is essentially a parking lot, which definitely detracts from its overall ambiance. Additionally, the seating arrangement consisted of folding chairs and the bathrooms were in portable trailers. So it's definitely a little bit primitive and lacking the comfort and sophistication found in more modern concert venues. Still, what The Stage at Coco lacks in ambiance and comfort, it compensates for with being an intimate venue with affordable tickets and excellent stage visibility. Overall pretty good spot. Five stars from me.

We were able to enjoy the outdoors and the vibes of the music without dripping in our own sweat. They had one food vendor selling burgers, hotdogs, you know the usual event food. I would say I wish they had more options but we did eat inside of the casino afterwards at the BOL which is usually one of my fav places at Seminole hardrock casino in Hollywood. The people working the event were very nice. Everyone seemed helpful and cheerful. Very easy to find your seating. We all enjoyed ourselves! Would love to come back more to this venue for concerts.

The Hollywood Beach Theater is what brings the boardwalk to life. This theater offers free admission at all times. You may sit on the bleachers, to enjoy the view, you may stand and dance right in front of the band. The stage presence was always complete with excellent musicians covering hits from the 60s to today. You'll find fun, colorful lights and haze effects, feeling like you're at an actual concert. The theatre will typically bring live music every evening from 7:00 to 9:00.

The broadwalk is old school dubbed the "Hollywood Bandshell" and now officially named the Hollywood Beach Theatre. Ten years ago the Margaritaville Hotel was constructed and leased and manages the theatre. Sandy floor bathrooms open to the public. Now I come here with my wife to listen to live free music at the oceanfront amplitheater Wednesday thru Sunday nights. We eat pizza at Rocco's Pizzeria while watching interesting characters dance.

This year was the 4th annual Riptide Music Festival hosted by 105.3, The Shark, a local alternative…read moreradio station. The festival is a two day music event. The radio station sells tickets for the cheapest price before the lineup is even announced and ticket prices go up the closer you get to the festival. I gather that in past years they were more lax about what you could bring in like allowing beach chairs. This year there was a strict do and don't policy. I ended up having to purchase a clear backpack to carry my few belongings into the festival. Chairs were banned but you could bring a towel. All food and drinks were banned except for the one 16 ounce factory sealed water bottle you were allowed to bring in. A complete list of items allowed were posted on the website. Day one of the festival had the biggest draw, The Killers. This event gets 5 stars just for that band. I have wanted to see them live forever and it was all that I hoped it would be. I feel really grateful that I got to see them. On Saturday I also got to see The Revivalists and The 1975 who were also great live. By the time The Killers came on the entire beach was packed. Day two had a less crowded more laid back vibe. On Sunday I got to see Barns Courtney, Switchfoot, and Catfish and the Bottlemen. The closing band was Jimmy Eat World which by that time it had started to rain and I had work the next day so I skipped them. Things to keep in mind when attending the festival: Parking is a pain. While Pomano Beach has added beach parking in recent years, Ft. Lauderdale has eradicated almost all of their beach parking. The first night I parked on Las Olas and took a Lyft in. After the show I walked the two miles back to my car. On Sunday I parked at the Broward County Convention Center for $7 and took a $5 Lyft ride back and forth. I think that was the best option. You could also park at Bahia Mar for $40 and Church by the Sea for $30 although both places were out of spots on Saturday. If you can have someone drop you off do that or prepare to pay a lot of money or walk. Food is available at the festival. They had a lot of options and prices were typical of festivals. Water was $4, alcoholic drinks were 8 to 15 dollars. I had a disgusting White Claw, never again. Bathrooms are port a potties. Festival T Shirts ran $30. Everyone takes cards as payment so no need to worry about cash. A few places gave samples of beer and Goya was giving humus and vegetables. Once you check in to the festival there is no return entry so you can't leave the festival to eat at one of the nearby restaurants and come back. You are held hostage until you are ready to leave. This was my first Riptide Festival. I loved the bands but hated the stage. The placed it so the back was along A1A allowing the performers to look out towards the ocean. The audience had to peer around several Palm Trees that were in the way depending on where you were standing. My preference when going to a show is to have a seat and a real bathroom. I did not enjoy standing packed in the middle of thousands of sweaty people. I had a pretty good spot for the Killers but it was so miserable standing there that I gave it up to hang out in the back where I could at least breathe. Would I come again? Quite possibly depending on the bands but this festival is exhausting with the amount of walking and standing. Just to get from the entrance to the stage was at least half a mile on sand. I also wish The Shark would consider moving the festival up the beach to Pompano which has parking.

This is a nice looking sunken courtyard that is not easily visible from the street as you approach the Broward Center, but it is very cozy and nice, it has places to sit around and to enjoy any event you are attending. The open-air Peck Courtyard has a Mediterranean flavor with its terra cotta tile floor and surrounding shaded arcade. The location has been used many times as a setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions as well as parties under the stars.The courtyard has 2,600 square feet of event space which can hold about 300 people during a cocktail reception, since they have in-house banquet tables and chairs. Any event can be catered by their in-house caterer. So, if you are attending the courtyard either for a free event or a paid event, spending time around this courtyard is relaxing and fun !

You know you're walking into a real theater when the building itself makes you slow down for a…read moresecond and say, "Alright... this is going to be a night." Not a strip mall stage wedged between a nail salon and a frozen yogurt shop. A real theater. The kind that feels like it was built for big voices, bright lights, and the occasional crowd singing along a little too loudly after a couple of pre-show drinks. That's the first thing you notice about the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Sitting right along the river in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the place just looks like it belongs there. Modern lines, big glass, clean design. But at the same time it still carries the charm and warmth you expect from a classic theater. It feels like a venue that was designed for nights out. Once inside, the layout works well. Sightlines are excellent. Whether you're down low or up in the higher seats, the stage is easy to see and you never feel like you're watching from a bad angle. But here's the one thing that caught us by surprise. The sound system struggles a bit when you get up into the higher seats. The speakers just don't quite reach that far with the same clarity, so the sound can come across a little muffled. Here's the pro tip. If you're sitting high, save the money and go cheaper on the ticket because the sound quality up there probably won't match what you'd expect from a premium seat anyway. The parking situation has actually improved. Getting in is easier now that they switched to the pay by plate app system. You drive in, park, handle the payment on your phone and head to the show. Simple. Leaving, however, is another story. Getting out of the parking lot after a show can feel like a bit of an adventure. This is where patience becomes part of the evening's entertainment. Give yourself time and don't expect a quick exit. We saw Darius Rucker last night, and even with the sound challenges in the higher seats, it was still a really fun night. Good music, a great crowd, and the kind of energy that makes live shows worth it every time. Here's the move if you're coming here. Go early. Grab dinner or drinks somewhere nearby. Walk over without rushing and enjoy the atmosphere around the theater. And when the show ends, don't fight the traffic. Take your time and let the crowd thin out. Do it that way and the Broward Center becomes exactly what it should be. An outstanding way to spend a Saturday night.
