Oh go to place every time we are in Macon! Like eating in your grand mom's good ole home cooking. They also offer great cobbler dessert.

The food was good. It is cafeteria style. Got the 1 meat and 2 sides. Fried chicken with green beans and fried tomatoes. For bread was the corn bread. All was good. The food was hot. The service was friendly. There's nothing more to it.

One meal. Beef tips stew over rice with a double portion of rutabagas and cornbread. So delicous and super affordable!

I stopped by for breakfast this morning and was so pleased with the food and customer service.

A baked pork chop topped with cooked peppers and onions with collard greens as a side item.

Summary: A fast food restaurant with a cafeteria style format for Southern comfort foods. Fried Green Tomatoes has a revolving menu. A menu board behind the counter tells you what FGT is serving the day you visit. Beyond that, you have four meal options that include different combinations of meat, veggies, and desserts. My choice was two meats, two veggies, drink, and cornbread. All were very good to excellent. Fried chicken: crispy and excellent. Baked pork chop: a bit dry but veggie liquid improved the taste. Collard greens: nicely seasoned and the best I've had in a while--thoroughly cooked to remove the leafy taste and very tender. Green beans were also seasoned well. The cornbread was flaky and sweet.

Chicken breast hot and steamy throughout meal. Veggies right on brink of salty, but just grandmas kitchen enough.

Nothing really to write home to but seems like they keep a fairly tight ship. Cleanliness not terrible, enough foot traffic to be hard to tell. Family friendly. Moist chicken, good fry. I was hoping they had the calf liver which I've seen in so many pictures. Was a bit disappointed that it was only fried chicken livers, no smothering onions. No malt vinegar, just white, a little strange. Turnips and cabbage on point. Pictured is livers a La carte, friend chicken meals, lots of food.

Fried chicken, pork ribs, collard greens, cabbage, cornbread... for only $8.50!

How can you go wrong with a good meat & 2. Have eaten at the FGT in Macon & Milledgeville & love them both!

It just opens the door, turns the lights on, and says, "You hungry or not?" It is designed for food and drink not ambiance. This was one of those spots. The drinks showed up quick enough to make you think they might've already known your order before you sat down. The food was solid in that dependable way--nothing trying to reinvent itself, nothing apologizing for being what it is. Just honest plates doing honest work. Kyle the bartender is a study in modern Southern service industry diplomacy. Not exactly the kind of fellow you'd invite to Thanksgiving, but he kept things moving, kept things correct, and occasionally tried to lace the proceedings with a bit of entertainment--like a man juggling while also reading the room and half the room's thoughts. In the end, it's not a place you'll write home about in glowing, poetic letters. But it is a place you'll walk out of thinking, "Well... that did just fine." And in downtown Macon, that's sometimes all a man really needed in the first place.
