A technician would call to arrange the time. 5 min later, someone e said they could come asap. I needed the next day. So they said that was fine. What they neglected to tell me was it would be a subcontractor who would come. I asked when scheduling if they could give me a ballpark idea of cost. I was told it would depend on what lock I picked. When the tech came, I wasn't given a choice of lock. All he had were one style for 89$each. First said the front door would be lock switch at 65$. Back door 125 as it was considered a new install since he had to redo the door to fit the lock. Ok fine. He got to work then asked for a vacuum. I thought cool he's gonna clean up the mess. It took 1.5 hours to install a deadbolt on the back door and he didn't clean up! Vacuumed once in th3 beg and the. Left all his crap on the floor and strewn about. Screwd on the floor pieces of the door etc. Next we get to the front door. The easier of the 2. Now he looks at us and says oh this will be more. 69$ more. Um why? ALEX the tech says, because it will be more work than I thought. It took hom 39 min so why did we have to pay more for something that took less work than the other door? Again he left crap everywhere. Old rotor disc pads, screws, metal pieces from the door that were sharp! And the name on his invoice?emergency locksmith. I never said it was an emergency. 490$ later he is done. Way overcharged us.

On our 2018 Honda CRV, we got a dashboard message that said the battery in the key fob needed…read morereplacement. I did so and everything was fine. Then we got the message again so we changed the battery in the other fob. And that's where our problems began. After installation of the new battery, the red led light didn't blink. I went out to the car and it didn't do anything when I pressed the fob buttons. Put the old battery back in. No bueno. Our both batteries on the meter. New = 3.4 volts. Old = 2.6 volts. Neither turned on the red light. San Leandro Honda have a condescending look when we asked if the fob was covered by the 30,000 mile power train warranty. My thought? If the fob doesn't work, the power train is useless because you can't start the engine. Anyway, they said that they could try to do some diagnostics but the easiest fix would be to order a new fob and have it programmed. 24-hours and $300+. Oakland Honda said essentially the same thing. $368 for a new key, never mind that we bought the car there. The reason for the cost was the effort in programming the electronics. Please. I used to be an IT guy. You do to have to write a brand new script. You need to do some minor programming and flash the info into the fob. I did some online research and found The Key Shop. I sent a quick email to Rick and he responded that he could take a look at it. I called Rick. He texted me where I could find him in 35 minutes and we drove down. He went right to work, systematically checking everything that there was to check. He noticed that the battery was very difficult to remove. He asked if I was sure that I had used the correct battery. I showed him the battery in our other fob and he noticed that two of the plastic prongs appeared to be pressed down and could be causing the battery not to make good contact. Once he gently unbent the prongs, he reseated the battery and all was good. Total charge for his time and effort? $10. Way better than we could have hoped for. Rick, you THE MAN!
