This review is solely based on the Hockessin Location: I've never been a huge fan and of going to Friendly's, but I've never hated it. I usually just get their ice cream from the grocery store. Last time i remember, their food was bland and the inside was outdated. And yes, some of that may still be true today, but some people enjoy that home style diner food. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Our server Jamie was really nice and so were the other workers! The food was pretty good. I got the Buffalo chicken wrap and liked it, but it wasn't what I was expecting. On their website it said crispy chicken but the one I had was grilled. Still tasted good. Their fries are better than I remembered and their ice cream is always a must! Friendly's is a very simple and kid friendly place. So if you're into that, go check out this location. read more

I have been wanting to go a Friendly's since all the ones near us closed. We happened to be in Delaware and my husband saw that this one was nearby. They have a big menu of all types of foods. This is definitely a fun place to take kids. They have a nice kids menu that comes with a dessert. My daughter ordered a grilled cheese off the kids menu and loved picking an ice cream after. Whenever I come here, I get the honey bbq chicken supermelt. It is delicious and I highly recommend it. My husband got a burger which he also enjoyed. We got a peanut butter brownie sundae for dessert to share which was huge. Prices are more than you would think, but going out to eat anywhere is expensive these days I guess. Our server was great. I hope this place can manage to stay open unlike all the other Friendly's. read more

This was one of my MomMom's favorite restaurants and I was happy to humor her. While it was never great by any means, it's your fairly average diner-type food and spotty service, it was still enjoyable. She was always very happy with some kind of melt sandwich and fries, and I would either get a crispy chicken wrap or one of the salads. The fries weren't always crispy and the meals often left me feeling a bit more weighed down and greasy than when I arrived, but it's still comforting, tasty fast food. One thing I did like about the restaurant was the case of quarts of ice cream available for sale by the register. I was never in the mood for a sundae after so much fried food, but the Friendly's brand Vienna Chip or Mint Chocolate Chip were often very hard to resist buying on my way out to bring home for later. read more

This place has decent food and staff, as well as the fun claw machines. Good for the little ones, other than that, it's not that enjoyable. The claw machines at the entrance have some pretty decent prizes. I would say that it's worth a try with your little ones, however, a little expensive. read more

I usually have to wait for a manager to do the cash register, a Manager who is never in any hurry (no matter who is on duty). Tonight we walked in at 10:10 after a special occasion and were told that they were already closing the kitchen so they would only serve us ice cream. The hours online and on the door say 11:00 pm. Some of our party were hoping for food so were very put off. We still had some eager children wanting ice cream so chose to stay. The ice cream still took a long time to come. I can only assume because the people working were to busy trying to clean up to leave. They even mopped the floor in front of the door so we had to avoid slipping when it was time to go. This is a wonderful kid-friendly all-American restaurant. The place is clean, despite the messy desserts of ice cream that virtually every table orders. I have no kids, but it is a very happy sound. We are always greeted quickly at the door with a truly happy person! Then seated immediately, no matter how busy. The restaurant seating (which is all booths) is large enough capacity that I have only had to wait one time over the past 10 years of going here regularly. Yesterday, I ordered mini mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and a special order vegetarianized grilled sandwich. Husband ordered a double cheeseburger, and both entrees came with fries. All of the deep fried deliciousness was super-fresh. No stale oil here! And my special-order sandwich came out exactly as ordered. Hubby was delighted with his as well. Service was fast, efficient, polite, and happy, despite the waitress being overloaded. This is a great spot for every all-American favorite you crave. Their salads and veggies are wonderful as well, and their menu is pretty extensive. In 10 years of eating here every other week or so, it has always been a great experience. read more

Tonight my friends and I went to Friendly's for ice cream. The waitress named "Andrea" had no respect for us. The water took 20 minutes to come, and the ice cream took another 20 minutes. There are 4 other groups of people and many workers just standing around. The "Friend-Z" came back completely melted. She confronted one of us and said she "snatched" her ice cream. When she apologized, Andrea said "No you're not. You're a brat. Learn some manners." We were utterly disrespected and have no words. On top of all of that, the waitress couldn't be bothered to bring us our check or check in on us to see if we were almost done. Friendly's - please fix your customer service. Who in their right minds calls their customers a brat? It is 5 teenagers at Friendly's for ice cream. I think you need to learn your manners, Andrea. read more

So many great things to say about this place. First off the food is always awesome, whether you're getting breakfast, lunch, dinner or just to get a sundae you're bound to leave happy and with a wallet still loaded with cash. Everything is really reasonable priced me and my girlfriend come here all the time and usually the bills under $20 for the both of us. The waiting staff is always super helpful and get you'll you're food insanely fast and the manager always comes up and asks how our meal is. read more

Stopped in for ice cream and it was about what I expected. There are so few ice cream places open in the winter, and Friendly's is a fine option. I ordered the mint cookie crunch sundae--I like that this comes in three sizes, so I was able to get the smallest size (which was still a lot of ice cream). It was good, but not as good as I remembered it being--there weren't many oreos and there wasn't as much chocolate sauce as I remember. It was still good, though. The place was relatively clean. Our server was friendly and was good; the rest of the service seemed to be a bit slow, in getting seated and paying, and the reason was definitely not that the staff were busy working (more like busy talking with each other in the back). They're all very young, though, which was probably the reason, and it wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't add this to my line up of regular restaurants, but it's a decent place to get some ice cream during the winter months. read more

My wife's favorite restaurant because of her fond memories from her childhood is Friendlys. Unfortunately, tonight was not a reflection of her memory. We visited Friendlys in Hockessin this Sunday evening at 7pm and was greeted rather quickly and seated. I was very surprised to see 3 employees sitting in booths near the hostess stand and 3 other congregated behind the ice cream counter having informal discussions. We knew who our waiter was due to his poor performance earlier in the week but attributed it to his short tenure and busy environment. Tonight, that wasn't the excuse because there were only 3 tables of which he had zero. We waited for over 5 minutes never to be greeted and even offered a beverage order. As a result, we got up to depart with my wife sharing we will be leaving as a result of the lack of attention. No accountability accepted by the manager who we learned sat us and an informal "sorry" by the waiter. Our waiter was Peter Not sure the manager on duty but it definitely wasn't Aaron who is a rockstar!!! Only go back when he is leading the mediocre staff!! read more

My family and I went here tonight. It was my son's 2nd birthday. When we arrived there was not a Friendly's employee in sight. We stood in the entree way for about 10 mins without being greeted. Finally, I saw some employees in the back employee area and we were seated. Our waitress was Mikaela. She had to be one of the slower waitresses I have ever had. Do not recommend this restaurant. The service is poor, environment not kid friendly. One would expect a kid friendly environment, but the waitstaff seemed to want us to pay the bill and leave right away when the restaurant was 3/4th empty and the kids were still eating their desert. First time here was our last time. Ordered the All American Hamburger and it was horrible. The meat was processed and very greasy in a gross way. It reminded me of the cheap, frozen patties I'd pop into the toaster oven in my college days. Not at all worth $8! (If you want a crappy burger you can get it at McDonalds for half the price!). Fries were overcooked and more brown than yellow. The kids meal was a bit better - chicken tenders were good. Ice cream was okay, nothing special that you can't find in other restaurants. The service was less than average. Our server kept trying to rush us after giving us the check (we were still eating and it was no where near closing time).
