We stopped at Friendly's in Robbinsville for ice cream on our way back from the shore. What greeted us was not so much a restaurant as a reminder that all things fade. The dining room was empty except for one family huddled in a far corner. The freezers that should have been packed with half gallons and cakes and watermelon rolls stood hollow. Two claw machines slouched in the corner, blinking weakly, as though embarrassed to still exist. Behind the counter, one teenager stood guard. She did her best to look occupied while not looking bored, which is a difficult trick. As we placed our order, another father and son walked in. Suddenly the number of souls in the lobby doubled. The place was alive. Three more teenagers came out of the kitchen, laughing together, and began making our ice cream. It felt like the staff outnumbered the customers. We kept things simple. The youngest wanted vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, no cherry. The oldest went with forbidden chocolate and marshmallow topping. My wife ordered mint chocolate chip with hot fudge. At Friendly's it is green, which she insists is the only proper color for mint chocolate chip. I ordered the Reese's Pieces Sundae, though not the five scoop behemoth of my youth. Back then I could eat one after a full dinner and still run around afterwards. Now my cholesterol just shakes its head at me. I ordered a medium, which was still enough to remind me of old times. My father in law passed. He later said out loud what we were all thinking. "Is it just me, or was that place kind of depressing?" He was not wrong. The ice cream was fine, exactly what you expect from Friendly's, but at nearly ten dollars for a sundae, it felt more like an obligation to memory than a bargain. The teenagers behind the counter were pleasant, efficient, even jovial. They were the best thing about the place. But they could not disguise the fact that the restaurant itself looked tired, ready to shuffle off. Three stars. The kids working there earned them. The ice cream kept them. But Friendly's, at least this one, feels like it has already said goodbye. read more

Giving credit where credit is due, we recently came to Friendly's in Robbinsville. It has improved even beyond when we were here from my last review. The place was decorated for Halloween (we've been there at other times and decorations were appropriate for the season). It's cheerful, colorfully lit and not the depressing place it once was. I don't know if under new management or what, but, what an improvement. Food was delicious and server was fun and attentive. They are doing something right....keep it up!!! read more

So for let's say about a couple decades, they close a lot of friendly and as soon as I saw this place and spotted it I was like this is the place we need to go to in town so we stopped on Wednesday and we had a great great time waiters were very friendly and I will say that there's live music on Wednesdays, which is a pleasant experience for anybody. Wings and french fries are great cooked perfectly. The interior and cleanliness of the place is a very good attraction. And last, but not least their ice cream is bomb! I will be returning friendly. Amazing experience! 7 of us (4 adults, 3 kids) and our orders were perfect AND tasty! We had chicken fingers, onion rings and mini mozzarella sticks to start. Nothing left after we were done. The onion rings were crispy and delicious. I had some chicken finger melt and OMG, I am still thinking about it. The fries were amazing too. For dessert I had a chocolate shake thing with cookie dough. Again, I ate the whole thing. I kept exclaiming, "everything is so good!" We got there close to opening on a Sunday and our waitress handled all of our craziness and indecisiveness with grace. Grabbed dinner from here recently and was surprised by the quality of my meal! The brioche bun on my burger was tasty and the onion rings were pretty high quality as well. The cashier wasn't the friendliest but she was competent, so can't really complain there. I didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked nice enough. I will say that I thought the price of the burger was a tiny bit high, but that's a minor complaint. I'd never been to a Friendly's so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it seems like it's a pretty standard diner with decent food. For as long as I can remember most Friendly's have been experiments in controlled chaos - either chronically understaffed or prone to mix up your check and/or order with clockwork precision. Somehow, I never minded since they defiantly insisted on mangling the spelling of the All American hamburger (hamburg) and inflicting something called the Fribble outside of their home turf in New England. Bottom line, they were proudly oddball and weirdly, it always worked for me. And honestly, I'd much rather put up with a few permanent kinks in service than have to watch some assembly line "chef" maul the ingredients to my dinner inside their plastic gloves at Chipotle. All that aside, it's still nice to go to a place where you can sit at a table and order an ice cream sundae at your leisure under décor that hasn't really changed since the Partridge Family clogged the airways and the local mall attracted more than cobwebs. Currently, Friendly's are much harder to find but they're a throwback that's definitely worth the effort. Go find one. read more

I wanted to randomly go here to relive my childhood and unfortunately I wish I didn't. The menu was completely different from what it was when I was younger, but I must admit a lot of the food was creative and different. Me and my girlfriend ordered loaded waffle fries, she got a taco pasta, and then I got a chicken fried rice bowl. The food wasn't bad but obviously not the healthiest food either. It visibly looked very greasy especially my girlfriends taco pasta. It also cost $45 which to me was way overpriced considering the quality of food we were served. Not only that but our waitress didn't check in much we sat there with empty water cups for quite a while before she checked in. Not only that, but when we were done eating we did have left overs and we waited over 10 minutes for boxes. All the while there were only 2 other tables and a kids party going on so it wasn't busy at all. And when it came to the kids party I overheard the waitress that took care of them talking poorly about it. She said things like, "when they start screaming that's my queue to leave." I definitely wouldn't recommend going here unless you really just wanted ice cream. I can't speak for other friendly's, but as for this Robbinsville location I know I will not be going back. read more

I love this place!!! I come here with my friends all the time. Their food is so good and warm. Friendlies has 3 menus. Kids menu, adults menu, and ice cream menu. They also have very quick service. As soon as I enter the restaurant, a waiter comes and gives me a table or asks for my order. There is seating outside too. The bathrooms are always so clean. It is so rare to see that in public these days if I am being honest. The waiters are super sweet too. I love the contests here and there, also the voting. Sometimes there can be a wait, but it depends on how busy it is or what you order. There is claw machines which are a little expensive but I still play them. Outside, there is a walk through on the side-walk. I really love that. Sometimes, me and my friends or family want to go on a long walk. I always recommend going to foxmoor shopping center and friendlies for something to eat. I will continue coming here. In love with this place so much. read more

This restaurant has become very unfriendly towards kids in our town. In fact they should probably change their name to "Unfriendly ". You should expect that if you have a shop within walking distance to two schools you are going to get a high traffic flow of kids. Staff should be welcoming to kids who are walking and getting exercise, socializing and not playing videos games. Instead they treat them like vermin, make them eat outside, refuse to serve them. They jacked up the prices to discourage them from going in. It's your loss. You are missing out on getting to know and help shape the youth of our future. Was here about 2 weeks ago and a fight broke out. Manager did not call police or even ask the kids to leave the establishment. I have been coming here for the past 5 years or so and the last couple times they are either understaffed and it's too crowded to get a table, or the restaurant is empty and it still takes forever to get ice cream. In general the service is polite and friendly and I liked the food, so I have let it go. The fight and the lack of action by the manager was the last straw. You can't run a business like this and expect to have repeat customers. Or even any customers at all. I won't go back to this location. read more

This Friendly's is severely understaffed. We could not get a table meanwhile the restaurant was half empty. The staff seemed frantic and overwhelmed, while one of the staff members screamed at her fellow employees across the restaurant, we still did not receive a table. Once we finally sat, we were served appropriately. Food was okay. Nothing too special but nothing terrible. The buffalo sauce definitely isn't real buffalo, so beware. Came in for a quick, light dinner at 9pm last night after driving for 7 hours. Dad's choice... He likes Friendly's for some reason. I haven't cared for it since getting my staple "chicken lickin' platter 30 years ago as a kid. There were more servers than people eating in the restaurant. Fam ordered a crock of chowder, two BLTs, and the $5.55 double cheeseburger (plus 99c for bacon) for myself. Chowder was forgotten. Meals came out, server was reminded, and it came out after. When it was finally brought out, it was a "lukewarm salty potato milk", per my father. BLTs were decent. My burger was actually surprisingly good. I compared it to a McDs value meal, and how at $6.54, it's a better deal. Our server was bubbly and attentive. Nice girl that could do herself justice making bigger tips at a better restaurant. The thing though... Bill came, and they tried to charge us almost $13 for my $6 burger. Apparently they have some Baconator-esque type thing that has slightly bigger patties. I pointed to what I wanted on the menu when ordering, and got something that looked almost EXACTLY like the picture on the menu. Only difference is that I got it with no veggies. Double burger, cheese, extra buck for bacon. Our server referred us to Abby... Apparently the manager. She was short, rude, accused me of "ordering the wrong thing", and was generally unwilling to help in any way. The kicker is this... She said I "should have alerted the server when I got the wrong thing". I ordered a burger with 2 patties, 2 slices of cheese, bacon, and pickles. I got EXACTLY what the menu said I ordered, and I pointed to the exact item when interacting with our server during ordering. Apparently they have 1/4, and 1/3 lb patties, and I was expected to bring a food scale and estimate the cooked weight, and alert my server if they screwed up... Per Abby. I took my 2 year old cousin here. He really wanted a sundae and friendly's is best known for that. I had a server named Gwyn. She was nice at first, but then she started break dancing. I thought it was kind of odd. She then proceeded to do the worm and asked my little cousin if he wanted gummy worms on his sundae. Once she gave him his sundae, she started running away on all fours. It's not like you go to Friendly's for a fine dining experience, but it certainly wouldn't kill them to step it up a bit. It's as if the place is run by 5th graders. We got reasonably lucky and were seated right away, but that wasn't the case for anyone who came in after us. There were TONS of free tables, but everyone, including a party with a toddler and a baby, were made to wait at least 10 minutes to be seated. Getting out of the place was also an issue. I'm fairly certain only one staffer is able and/or allowed to use the register, and she was also waiting tables, so we witnessed two different pissed off parties trying to pay. While this was happening, there was a gaggle of waitresses chatting and milling about aimlessly -- there were no tables to wait on at the time, nothing to clean up. But apparently they weren't able or allowed to use the register. There was also some serious dysfunction when it came to dessert orders. The family next to us ordered dessert long before we did and it still hadn't arrived by the time we ordered ours. A waitress came out to apologize to them, but the reasons for the delay were convoluted. Maybe they churn the ice cream on site? Our ice cream also took more than a half hour, which was fine - we weren't in a rush, and I don't mind the pause between courses, but I don't believe for a moment they were accommodating me, since they botched my son's order, and he's a fussy 7-year-old, but I removed the offending whipped cream and cherry, and we were good to go. I thought he might continue to complain that the whipped cream "infected" his ice cream, but before he could do so, I made it clear to him I wasn't waiting another half hour for a new bowl of chocolate ice cream. Our waitress was the sweetest, though. If I had to guess, I'd say she was 18. She appeared genuinely curious and attentive and decent at her job, but also lacking the edge of a seasoned waitress - she was very soft spoken. She seemed like the National Honor Society sort who happens to be able to pay close attention to detail, who is also biding her time before she ships off for college in a few months. She wasn't the one who delivered our desserts, so I'll let her off the hook for the goof-up. For a family-friendly sandwich shop, the food is tasty. I love their buffalo chicken tenders - my son tried these for the first time on Sunday and is now a huge fan. We had an appetizer sampler with the buffalo tenders, sliders, loaded waffle fries; my son had a side of mini mozzarella sticks with his meal - and everything was cooked properly and very good. Desserts were also very good, despite the ridiculously long wait. Our waitress came back to check on us during desserts, and I told her everything was fine, and she whispered, "Good? I'm glad to hear it? If you need anything else, I'm the manager?" It was as if she was just appointed five minutes ago, and was saying it for the first time to me. I stopped her before she could walk away and asked if I could pay her, rather than at the register, and she said yes. I did disclose earlier in the review that I wasn't in a rush, but my time is still valuable, and I didn't want to languish by an unattended register for a half hour. So I was grateful for her favor. Would we go back? Probably. It's perfect food for a 7-year-old. I'd just make sure to clear my day first! Friendly's is, for what it is, definitely 4-star for food, but only 2-stars for service, which is how I settled on 3 stars. I brought my 87 yr old grandmother to this place for breakfast at 10:30am on Saturday, March 25, 2017. I used to eat at Friendly's of the time but they're pretty scattered around now. The closest one toe used to be located in the Hamilton Shopping Center near K-Mart and Planet Fitness. Let me start off by saying that we had to seat ourselves in an empty restaurant. After we sat down, I got up to let someone (her name was Donna) know where we were seated. She got all up in my face in a very harsh, abrasive tone to let me know that they don't seat the section. I told her that I don't work there and don't know where you seat but that I wanted to seat my grandmom near the window but I'll ask my grandmother to get up with her cane and move to another table. Donna changed her mind when she saw my grandmother and she said she'd have the person serving the table across from us to pick us up. We sat for 20 mins until that server came by to take our order. I don't know her name but her brother works in the kitchen. To make a long story short, my grandmom's coffee was cold. Another 20 mins go by, our food was cold and we still didn't get our drinks (mine an unsweetened iced tea, my grandmom's a water with no ice). I didn't care about the iced tea but grandmom had medication (blood pressure, heart, cholesterol, and a water pill) that had to be taken with food and swallowed with water. Since we hadn't seen our server, I got up and went up front and saw a girl (her name was Kara) wiping down tables. I asked this girl if she could bring out a glass of water without ice. She said no but she could tell our server. I said, yo mean to tell me that you can't bring out a glass of water really quickly. She said, that's right, I don't have time. The entire section where she was wiping down tables was empty except for one booth. I knew at this time that I was eating at the wrong restaurant. I could not in good conscience stay here and give this place my money. I was done. I told my grandmother to gather her things, stopped at the bagel store to get her a bottled water to take her medication and we proceeded to Rt. 130 to Cracker Barrel. If a place can't be concerned about customer service, I can't be concerned about them.. read more
