I really like to go here. I could easily buy the ice cream at the Halo Farm location next to the Trenton Farmers Market (and I do!), but sometimes I just want to go to this place after dinner, wait through the inevitable line, and sit down and enjoy some ice cream that's honestly as good as or better than any of the fancy brands at the grocery store. They've an impressive range of flavors, and I try to always try a flavor that I've not had in a long time, however I need to have my chocolate cherry more often than not. It's also very common to see people walking along the counter to pick their flavors. If you haven't made a decision, and the people behind you in line know what they want, do the right thing and let them go first. They give healthy scoops, and one scoop, although it doesn't sound like much, might be enough for someone with less post-dinner space available in their belly. If it's your first time visiting, watch the scoops being given to the person in front of you before making your decision. As an added bonus, during Spring and Summer Saturday nights, they have live music in the room as well. It's a cheap, fun date. read more

I am sad to give this a mediocre review, but this is the third time I visited and they were missing strawberry chip - which is a fan favorite. They keep leaving the boxes of ice cream on top of the counters to restock and then serve long lines of customers. This makes the ice cream very melty and causes freezer burn. Halo Pub does not allow tastes anymore so when they are out of your family's favorite flavors, it is a blind guess as to what to order. The hot fudge is delicious, but hard to enjoy when they give so little and the ice cream starts out melty. I hope the management will start listening to customer feedback and fix the stocking issues. The staff says that they request more stock of popular flavors, but don't get them. Lastly, the bathroom is nasty. read more

Wow, talk about generous portions. They have an ice cream sampler and the first time you go out sounds like a great idea, but plan to share or save some in the freezer! The freezer line goes all the way across the counter and the flavors are all different, so make sure to look at the full range before you decide! Two scoops of delicious flavored icecream on a sugar cone is what I ordered. It was delicious. I order the chocolate butter pecan (yes you heard that right), also the black cherry icecream. The scoops were humongous. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was a long line upon entering. We waited anyway. They moved pretty quickly. It was appreciated. The service was very nice. The outside looked nice, but didn't look spectacular. I could have overlooked it and passed it by if I wasn't paying attention. The sign for the name of the establishment wasn't big and it was dark. The inside looked dark as well. Like I mentioned, it was packed in there. Wanted to grab a table on the inside but it was no more space. Opted to eat the icecream in the car. Warning - Do not use your credit card here! We've been coming for years and generally the ice cream is amazing besides the few times when the freezer isn't cold enough so the ice cream is soft and quickly melts. This review is about a recent visit which gives me pause to ever go back. During our last visit we used our credit card (one we don't generally use) and immediately after we started receiving fraudulent charges. After calling the card company they noted that based on our use that it was highly likely that the Halo Pub card machine is compromised. I went back in to tell the employees (bunch of kids as you'd expect at an ice cream joint) just to warn them for other customers. The cashier proceeded to tell me that he was aware of the problem because he had heard it from several others and they notified management. They also asked me to contact management because no one was doing anything about it and that they had lots of issues with the machine. I called the manager a few times and did leave a message but was never contacted which is fine. Just posting this to warn others so they don't potentially face the same issue. read more

They have two main freezers that house the open ice cream to select from - the one on the left (as you face the counter) has not kept the ice cream frozen for over a year now... went back the other night for a treat and they scooped the ice cream and it was like soup...is that even safe to serve? really this has been going on for a very long time - wish they would fix it. read more

I was very disappointed in the over priced pints of ice cream. I went there thinking it would be like Halo Farm where you buy 2 pints and get the third pint free..but sadly they don't have the same deal. Most of the time they don't have the flavor I want or they run out. It's a hit or miss. The only reason I went there was because Halo Farm closes too early and Halo Pub stays open much later. I come here with family and friends. This is a very original place. Their ice cream tastes delicious. They have so many choices for toppings. I usually take a pint home from halo pub and there is so many different flavors for the tub that you can choose from. There is usually 2-3 workers when I go and they are usually very nice. Pretty good ice cream. It's a little pricey but the quality of the ingredients is pretty good. The cookies and cream, chocolate chip, and vanilla bean are my favorites. The furniture is kinda sticky, I'm not sure if the tables are wiped down during the day. The store is mostly staffed by youngsters. Depending on their mood, service can be good or bad. Call me old fashioned but when I conjure up "ice cream parlor" in my mind it usually involves some brightly lit confectionery haven with a freshly scrubbed eagle scout soda jerk wannabe in a red striped apron behind the counter enthusiastically pushing the rocky road. Halo Pub on the other hand is perfectly named as it provides the halos around my cataracts time to render me virtually blind as I attempt to distinguish between the flavors in the most dimly lit retail establishment in America. Place an ice cream shop in the catacombs under the Vatican and you have Halo Pub. Don't get me wrong, the ice cream is fantastic but they might want to consider Braille markers on the counter to help guide their customers through the twilight. While in the area with the kids, yelped ice cream and Halo was ranked in first place. Looks like a local favorite. Not your usual looking ice cream joint, as the place looks like a pub inside. Unfortunately I forgot my mask and had to stay outside like a bad dog.... Kids and my wife went in, I had a scoop of butter pecan and a scoop of pistachio. O M G! This place could not get more perfect (for me anyway). Not only is the icecream here made by hand and fresh w/ variety'o'plenty but the decor is outstandingly marvelous!!!! It's like you walked into a classy barn, if such a thing! There are a few tables and chairs but the majority of the 'dining' is done on built-in wood benches! Cow decor is everywhere - sweet artwork, unique trinkets and awesome cow bells & old fashioned icecream scoops hang from the ceilings. So cute and quaint. It was really fun finding a seat to enjoy our icecream AND to watch the live band! I'm not sure of the band's name but they played music right up my proverbial alley - mostly jazz and blues. The tip jar was filling up nicely and rightly so. To make it even MORE festive, a large (wedding?) party came in and were so happy and were dressed up - some of the children even had balloons. I enjoyed watching them. As for the icecream . . . I got pistachio (hmmm, it was white and not dyed!) and chocolate butter amond. Both were so good and perfect. Not too dense, although, I DO like that as well and absolutely tasty. The nuts were nice sized and plentiful. And OMG - the chocolate butter almond! The chocolate was really dark and delicious! Great place to hangout and enjoy a long list of ice cream flavors, coffee drinks, shakes and soft serve. When we don't see anything on the dessert menu other places we normally end up at the Pub. We can always find a flavor or combination of flavors that we love. My favorite is the coffee chocolate chip! Sometime we stop in during the day when the place is empty and enjoy some ice cream and a coffee or after shopping nearby. Though I can't say much for the seating. Every chair is wooden and if you have any back problems I suggest you be prepared to be sore when you get up. How one can fault Halo Pub is beyond me. Halo Pub produces consistently rich & tasteful ice cream without charging an arm & a leg for it. No wonder they often have lines even in the dead of winter. Service is friendly and lines move quickly. The hot chocolate is very rich and flavorful. As far as ice cream, plenty of flavors for everybody as evidenced by the young kids indecisively scoping out the multitude of varieties. Not your typical ice cream shop. Halo Pub is more of an eclectic ice cream parlor meet pub (minus the booze). Once you leave the parking lot and enter Halo you enter some other universe... like the inside of a barn decor wise- old repurposed barn beams, cow inspired artifacts like bells hanging and even ice cream scoops strewn along the ceiling plus images of cows that adorn the walls and a room of mixed church pews and country-esque tables and chairs--- part ice cream parlor, part meeting house, part music venue (Saturday night at least). A comfy, friendly as heck ice cream (coffee too for the adults) with a way different twist on doing ice cream. First off Halo Pub is associated with Halo Dairy so that in and of itself should tell you something about this establishment. So many ice cream choices to start with and none trying to be something over the top like Zebra in Newtown PA (which we really like too with the blend ins) and which has it's own flair. This is no Ben and Jerry's or Cold Stone but its own unique brand. You need to come and experience it. Tonight we arrived, got in queue, asked for 2 sample tastes, ordered (mango for me and coffee chip for my wife) and found a table to sit and enjoy the 3 piece band. Yes there were kids this Saturday night, but basically they funneled through and left with parents in tow while the adults grabbed seating to relax and unwind. I've been to this establishment twice and have decided a boycott is in order. Here's the thing I love Halo Pub ICE cream, it's affordable and they have almost every flavor under the sun with a focus on minimal high quality real ingredients. What irks me is that they serve partially iced ice cream. The first time I visited was in the heat of summer and the ice cream being served was melting in the freezers. Ok no problem..it was a fluke. My visit today in the dead of winter was no different. The ice cream FLAVORS were in various stages of re-freezing. I'm not a fan of this location, I would much rather continue to go to Halo Farm in Trenton to get my pints! My fave FLAVORS: rum raisin, cookies and cream, mango, AMARETTO almond! Creamiest ice cream ever! Can't go wrong with such low prices and awesome, homemade ice cream. Nice to come here year round, even though it's always super packed. Best ice cream EVER. I have tried quite a few ice cream places and Halo Pub tops them all. The ice cream is always fresh and delicious and the flavors draw me back every time. Would recommend the Strawberry chocolate chip and their 'crepe de menthe chocolate chip' ( mint chip ) in a heartbeat. Only issue I've ever had is that Halo pub runs out of chocolate sprinkles constantly. Shipments take a long time for them to come in, but that's not entirely their fault. Best Ice-cream EVER. I have been to the Princeton Halo Pub location a long time ago but this was the first time going to the one in Hamilton. I remember really enjoying the other place so I was excited to try this store. The inside is a little on the small side but has a decent amount of tables. It's a converted all wood style decor bar (hence the pub name) and kind of has that "bar smell" to it. They make their ice cream fresh and offer a variety of hard and soft serve flavors. They also make some excellent smelling coffee, espresso, and cappuccino. We didn't get a chance to try that but definitely will next time. We got a cone of the toffee coffee hard flavor and a cup of soft serve. Both were delicious! We're excited to try return and try more flavors. read more

Halo pub has awesome icecream! I love the variety of flavors. M&M's plain is my favorite with whip cream on top! Icecream can be a bit expensive, but it's fresh so I think it's worth it. One thing I hate though is that they don't have a menu to look at all the flavors. There is always a line when you visit and You have to fight your way through other people in line to check the case to see each icecream label. The line of people is up against the cases of icecream. I just wish They had a chalkboard menu or a tv with a menu, maybe even a QR code? Maybe that will change in the future. read more

The customer service is outrageous. I called ahead of time to see what time they were closing and they told me 10:30. I come in at 9:20 and me and my friend asked for 3 things: all to which they said "no we don't have that" or "no we can't do that" to. I asked for a milkshake and they told me that they already cleaned the blenders so they could not make me a milkshake. When we left the 3 girls locked the door, hopped up and sat on the counters, and gossiped. This is not how you treat your customers especially when you don't close for another hour. I always forget this is so close to where I live. My wife was craving ice cream and here it is November. It was still warm out so we walked over to Ritas to find they're closed for the season. Went back home, took the motorcycle and cruised all over Trenton/Hamilton looking for ice cream. Then it hit us----Halo Pub. Always ready for customers. The staff is friendly and "patient" which is a virtue due to their overwhelming variety of flavors, sizes and trimmings. Its not really a pub as you'd think for getting a beer. You won't find any alcohol here. If you're thirsty, try a float or a specialty coffee drink. The interior is rustic with lots of dark wood. The only comparison to a pub is it's dark lighting. Halo pub is owned by the folks who own Halo Farms in Trenton. One of the few dairy processors in NJ who sell direct to the public from their processing facility. read more
