Not so friendly Friendship Heights
Jim W.

The whole Friendship areas has plummeted further faster than any commercial area I know. The metro station has always featured surly, rude unhelpful "Station Managers" hiding in their sound proof booths that repels all but the most desperate Metro riders. Now, most stores are closed and the streets stink of urine and feces, with broken glass and barbed wire. It is exhibit A of a failed state.

Ugh! I just LOVE IT! Back in college, I loved escaping Howard to wonderful little spots away from campus, and coming to this stop off the metro was always SO wonderful! I'd go on little dates and we'd ride the metro to this stop for Cheesecake Factory...or I'd go shopping here...or I'd come to the movies here. This little area has everything. And after visiting recently, it is even BETTER than I remember! Kinda suburban yet city-like...and just magical. Yes there may be shitty/bad moments and memories in life, but don't ever forget the good. There's always something good.

I have not been on many Metro stations growing up in Florida but this is a nice one if you are in the Friendship Heights area and need to get into DC. There are plenty of areas to access this station. There is one into the Chevy Chase Pavilion where I usually stay at Embassy Suits.

There is an exit that goes straight into the Embassy Suites Hotel. It is convenient. I love the $2 weekend fees on metro.

I just want the construction to end. But besides the construction it's conveniently located.

From there, you are located near the National Mall, Smithsonian Museums, White House, Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln monuments. Also, near the WW II and the Vietnam Wall memorials. The station is equipped for ADA via elevator near the main entrance and has ramps to the platforms. The elevator may have enough room for 4-5 people or 1 ADA Wheel or electric chair and two others. The trains are nice and clean. Not like other stations in other cities. Price is comparable to other cities dreaming from $2.50 -$6.75 depending the time and stop you are heading too. Use your phone, CC, or Smartcard you can purchase from the Metro. Also, you can plan your trip, purchase and schedules from their website @ https://wmata.com I highly recommend to use the site. Epic escalators! They are about 100' -150' deep before you get to the kiosk stations. Have a fun trip!

Normally it's pretty clean. Once you take the long-ish escalator ride up away from the tracks, you end up in a covered area where the buses are. This area has a tiny Dunkin Donuts if you need a snack or coffee. As you head to the next set of escalators, there is a water feature (not quite a waterfall) that comes down into the station area from the surface. Nice to have a natural sounds in a very urban area. Once you get up onto the surface, you're at the corner of Old Georgetown Rd and Wisconsin Ave near several hotels and a Starbucks (in case Dunks wasn't your cup of tea). Pretty central to a of businesses and restaurants. All in all, this station is convenient and central to downtown Bethesda.

Now they are putting up surveillance systems aganst Teenage Take overs where they are in a rampage not bejbg in Schol at and hanging where kids are jit allowed at . Its ruining the reputation od good customers there . But im glad improvements are being made . This place has now two parking structures one at the station and ine across the street . It includes elevators to take uou into the metro train areas . They even have apps such as Metro bus or ride on bus app or ateansit app to know schedules to buses or trains there . You can use their QR CODES on theie ads to do them . They eben allow people like Jehovahs witnesses to solicit their materials there to know communities there . But now the bus stops have all new buses and schedules then the old ways anymore . But im getting used to them with time . But my explorations aboard metro buses and ride ons are far ftom over . Inside the Metro areas down below they have machines to reload your Metro cards to add on the machine too to go where you want with the schedules they show on it . Over the last year, there have been some challenges getting to the station due to the purple line construction. Not sure when that'll be completed but lately it hasn't been too bad! I'm so glad they recently brought back the yellow line. If you miss a green line train, a yellow one comes right after! There's still occasional delays but no overall complaints. The employees at this station are super helpful. I'm late to the game but I finally downloaded the smart trip app and use it to enter the station. No need for a physical card.

However, this place is a mess with the never ending, ongoing construction of the Purple Line. I do not know how many times I have missed my connection because you have to travel their rat maze to get to and from the station. I mean, I have literally just missed my bus each and every time I have gotten off of the train. Pros for this place is that they have a parking garage. Bike parking is available as well. Connection with buses, Metro and PG, and with MARC. I really do enjoy this station, if only they can finish at least a bit of the construction to allow for better flow of foot traffic. It's always rushing around, but never getting anywhere.

Dear reader,…read more Franconia Springfield Metro may not be the flashiest station in the system, but it is absolutely one of the better ones to use. It is spacious, easy to navigate, and generally feels far less chaotic than some of the other stations in the area, which is a blessing in itself. Whether you are commuting regularly or just heading into the city for the day, the whole setup makes getting around feel simple and efficient. One of its best qualities is how practical it is. There is plenty of parking, it is easy to access, and it connects well for people coming from different directions, which makes the whole experience feel very civilized by Metro standards. The station also usually feels clean and well maintained, and overall it is just a reliable place to start or end your trip. No great drama here, just a station that does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. In my book, that earns high marks.
