It was the second day it opened...a little over three years ago. From my apartment on the 10th floor I look east across the beautiful campus and see the McDowell Mountains and the rising sun each morning, as well as students scurrying, riding skateboards, and hurrying to class. Residents are also able to take classes tuition free and participate in many campus activities. It's an easy walk to the football and basketball facilities, and my favorite, baseball, is just four miles away. The Gammage Performance Center is an easy walk, as well as the many shops downtown. For transportation we have light rail that goes all over the Valley, just a short ride to see the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Suns, or the Phoenix Symphony! Similar facilities are remotely located...go out the gate and see desert or a residential neighborhood. We have shops, groceries, a drug store, entertainment, and a movie theater! My one-bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable with maintenance and cleaning included. Our computer/TV guy Trevor is one of the top five reasons to live here...get a new printer...he will make it work in no time!! Our maintenance people are prompt and pleasant for issues with appliances or repair of anything that comes up or to assist in special projects. We also have three restaurants serving a variety of new items as well as old favorites. Many ASU students work in the restaurants and our underground parking garage. None of us get into a hot car because it's all underground! Valets provide airport service and also drive those without with a car for appointments within a reasonable distance! Residents are also kept busy going all over the Valley in 15-passenger buses to varied locations. Many events and speakers are offered; it's sometimes impossible to do it all. One floor is designated as Assisted Living and another for Memory Care. So if you are thinking about moving from the big house that's heavy maintenance, don't wait until you have a fall or accident. Come here, meet new people, and join in the activities. If you have grown children, it's a great gift for us to all downsize and know there are people nearby to help as we grow older and less able to handle the burden of home ownership or living alone. I would like to share our experience with my mom being at the Oasis for almost 8 years…read more When looking for a place for her to be, we toured several independent living places. After our tour at the Oasis, she knew this was where she wanted to be and we agreed. We loved the size of her apartment, that it had a washer and dryer, the food and the dining room, the activities(she has played bingo and pokeno for years) and loves Nicole, the social director and for how clean and pretty the landscaping and common areas are. Mom loved the servers in the dining room, the maintenance workers, who did everything from changing light bulbs and filters to air conditioning problems or whatever timely. A huge plus for us was that The Oasis at Mesa Palms is independently owned vs corporate. Jeremy, the owner, has been a pleasure to work with and is very patience and has a great attitude. Mom was at The Oasis all during covid and I was very impressed with the procedures that had in place to take care of all the residents there. Mom always felt proud of her "home" whenever any of her family and friends would come and visit her. Her grandchilden loved to have lunch or dinner with her there because of the desserts and it seemed a little fancy. When comparing pricing, the Oasis was very fair. My mom is now 92 and her health has made us make the decision to have to end her time at The Oasis, but what a great almost 8 years it has been Thanks again to everyone for taking such great care of her and for all the joy she had there. Activities at Bella Vista have expanded and improved over the last few months. There is something…read morefor everyone. A lot of variety. Attendance at activities has picked up. No longer anything to complain about. The activity director is responsive to requests. She goes above and beyond. Food is delicious. Last eve I had the special. 2 paper dollar sized pieces of blackened cod, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, clam chowder, a side salad of fresh lettuce variety, cucumber, tomato and delicious homemade dressing. The coconut cake for desert was moist and delicious. A huge meal but too delicious to leave. They have repaired their van so it is available Tues, Wed, Thurs for transportation to medical appointments. The van is much more comfortable than community bus. The Bella Vista bus is available for large outings. We went to two musical events at Heard this summer. Also baseball game, regular casino trips, lunch out on Mondays. The restaurant is chosen by residents. I have lived here 3 years. You can't go wrong chosing Bella Vista for your home.

However, the staff and administrators helped us all get through in the best possible way. He had excellent care from the staff. They made sure they did everything possible to make him comfortable. They were kind, compassionate, caring, patient and competent. His room and private bath were large, private with plenty of light and always clean. Meals were good and special diet needs were accommodated.The administrators were knowledgeable and flexible. Hawthorn felt like a home not an institution. If you are in need of memory care for a loved one Hawthorn is a place to visit and consider seriously.
