In many retirement communities, the assisted living residents are separated, and as such feel like second class citizens. At McDowell Village, independent and assisted living are involved in the same activities and eat in the same dining room. And what a dining room--thank you to the wonderful Rosa Guzman who knows every resident's name and has something lovely to say every meal! Many of the assisted living caregivers are kind, understanding and caring. Thank you to Veronica, Ashlee, Vicki, Mina, Bibi, Araceli, Joshua and Jesse. I would mention that even though we filled his pill case every week, my father was unable to take his medicines himself. For this reason, we signed up for Med help. However, it is labor intensive for the family/physician. We would like to thank the staff at McDowell Village for all the help we received during my father's stay.

After our tour at the Oasis, she knew this was where she wanted to be and we agreed. We loved the size of her apartment, that it had a washer and dryer, the food and the dining room, the activities(she has played bingo and pokeno for years) and loves Nicole, the social director and for how clean and pretty the landscaping and common areas are. Mom loved the servers in the dining room, the maintenance workers, who did everything from changing light bulbs and filters to air conditioning problems or whatever timely. A huge plus for us was that The Oasis at Mesa Palms is independently owned vs corporate. Jeremy, the owner, has been a pleasure to work with and is very patience and has a great attitude. Mom was at The Oasis all during covid and I was very impressed with the procedures that had in place to take care of all the residents there. Mom always felt proud of her "home" whenever any of her family and friends would come and visit her. Her grandchilden loved to have lunch or dinner with her there because of the desserts and it seemed a little fancy. When comparing pricing, the Oasis was very fair. We placed my 91 year old mother in an independent living apartment there four months ago following the sudden death of her husband of nearly 70 years. Her son had died less than a week earlier at Christmas. My mother has a fair degree of dementia and could not live alone. There had been no preparation for my mother to move into senior living and she was resistant to making the move. However, the Bella Vista team was most welcoming during one of the lowest moments in my mother's life and helped her rapidly integrate into the Bella Vista community. Food was horrible, lots of breaded processed foods, limited vegetables and fruit, eggs were more on the imitation side and meatballs had bone pieces in them. Only decent food was oatmeal and coffee. This place needs to be shut down and soon. State needs to do surprise inspection at night. Day staff for most part was decent.

Meals were good and special diet needs were accommodated.The administrators were knowledgeable and flexible. Hawthorn felt like a home not an institution.
