Review: The Village at Ocotillo - A Loving Home for Our Mom At the end of January 2025, we moved our mom from Albuquerque to Chandler. She was facing complications from late-stage cancer and needed the kind of care and support only assisted living could provide. After visiting three facilities in Chandler, The Village at Ocotillo stood out immediately--and in hindsight, we couldn't have chosen a better place for this important chapter in her life. We chose The Village for three main reasons: The size - It's big enough to give residents opportunities to socialize and make connections, but still felt warm and personal. The amenities and cleanliness - The inviting restaurant, the bridge card room, and cozy gathering spaces made it feel less like a facility and more like a real home. The people - We knew mom would eventually need a high level of care, and the kindness and professionalism of the staff made us feel she would be in good hands. We were right. From the moment she arrived, the staff wrapped her in love, attention, and dignity. Tugba (Business Manager), Sandy and Codi (Sales), Amanda (Nurse), and Chad (Maintenance) became familiar and comforting faces not only to her, but to us. Amanda was an angel during the last seven weeks of mom's life--her medical care and emotional presence were both deeply compassionate. The med techs--Richard, Lou, Mary, Marye, and Fadera--were incredible in managing her pain in close coordination with hospice. The caregivers--Alex, Monica, Naomi, Grace, Sam, Gerard, and Marisela--showed a kind of patience and tenderness that can't be taught. They cared for her physical needs and emotional comfort, always making sure she was clean, supported, and never alone. Even the front desk team--Heather, Faith, and Jennifer--greeted us each visit with warmth. Their kindness mattered more than they probably realized during those tough days. Although mom was only with The Village at Ocotillo for four months, it was exactly where she needed to be. She spent precious time with her kids and grandkids, surrounded by people who truly cared about her as a person, not just a patient. From our entire family--thank you. We will always be grateful. I'd give them zero stars if I could. The worst management team, rude "caregivers" with crap attitudes who do not understand anything when it comes to POA or guardianship appointments. They're sneaky and only care about money. They'll act nice initially but as soon as a resident starts having any type of health issues they're inattentive and downright ignorant about everything. I pray for all the humans who have been moved here that they do not have healthy issues arise or emergencies because it will turn into a nightmare working with their uneducated "nursing" staff. My mom is a current resident and has been for almost 2 years. They treat her with so much kindness and respect, which I appreciate so much. The food is ordered from a menu and they do everything from seafood night to burgers and fries. They bring in entertainment often and celebrate all holidays They go out of their way to help the residence to feel part of a family. I bring my adult children to visit and they say" wish I could live here". Lol.. read more

My family and I were devastated when we realized our mother had gotten to the point where living on her own would no longer be a viable option. As we considered viable options our primary concerns were the quality of care she would recieve and over all affordability. We considered several options but decided to move forward with The Villages at Ocotillo. We are very satisfied with the decision. My mother loves the facilities and the relationships she's built over the past few months with her new friends and the staff there. I'd like to express my respect and gratitude for the team at the Village at Ocotillo for their on-going excellence in protective and compassionate care during these alarming days of the COVID-19 pandemic. My mother and father moved into their sweet apartment in the community in 2016. My father went through hospice in their apartment, and today, my 95-year old mom continues to find comfort there, surrounded by a nice community, kind and protective care providers, and enriching social programs. Our family finds comfort and peace knowing we have their team partnering with us as we seek a life of quality for my precious mom--the jewel of our family. read more

I certainly appreciate the feedback from the manager and took it into consideration while delivering again yesterday. I had the misfortune to interact with Dee at the front desk again. Nothing has changed. Sadly, she still comes off as being grumpy. As the face of your business-the first person with whom one interacts upon entering your facility- she really does reflect poorly on your establishment IMO. Even after my last review, nothing has changed. I have nothing against this women personally, as I do not know her, but I think having someone in the position who greets warmly and invites positivity and happiness goes a lot further than what she's offering. I deliver to many senior living facilities and I've never come across someone at the front desk who behaves in this manner. I apologize for this feedback, but I just think you should know. If it was my business or I was the manager, I know I would want to know. I'm going to leave it at that for now and you can take this critique for what it's worth. read more

My parents moved to the Village three years ago due to Mom's care needs. They had done their homework checking out numerous places, and chose the Village. It was a good choice. I know the difference a good environment can make. My mother-in-law is in a different facility in the valley which is of constant concern. During 2020, the Village staff operated with utmost prudence and kept staff and residents safe. Even during shut down, the staff continued to have activities brought to each apartments (crafts, the Happy Hour cart, etc.) to keep residents engaged. Mom's end of life was managed with care and safety. With vaccinations available (brought to the Village for convenience), the dining room is again open, and activities have resumed (with safety measures as necessary). There are happy hours, birthday celebrations, exercises classes, music, painting, card games, speakers etc. The event coordinator comes up with creative ways to celebrate every event. They offer transportation to medical appointments and shopping. Dad has learn to appreciate pedicures at the in-house salon. Exercise classes are geared to engage the body and mind for all levels. Thai Chi, Seated Grooves, Cycling. We often join Dad for breakfast or dinner and have never been disappointed with our meal. It's not a perfect place, sometimes staffing is short, or something breaks. But I can depend on the Village director to take care of the situation, and to communicate with Dad or me. I get text messages and emails, alerting me as needed. I also like the Life Loop app with which I can see the calendar of events, photos, and be kept informed of Dad's activities (with his permission). We are very happy with the care and concern provided my mother-in-law at The Village-especially over the last few months. The place was locked down early to protect the residents from the virus. The staff is screened and no one is let in that doesn't work there. Very strict protocols were put in place early to keep everyone safe. The staff has gone above and beyond to help the residents not feel secluded or alone and they have done an exceptional job at communicating with family. This is a scary time especially for people in residential facilities. We are thankful for the peace of mind we have because our loved one is safe and secure at The Villlage. read more

During this Covid-19 outbreak, they are doing everything they can to keep the residents safe and healthy. I worked for The Village at Ocotillo for 2 years and found the company good to work for. They have tenured employees that work there because they genuinely care for the residents. The residents receive wonderful care from the caregivers and are offered a well rounded activity program with many options to keep them as active as they choose to be. If you're looking for a cozy, beautifully-appointed residential facility that is home to friendly seniors who do not require a high level of assistance, this is it. IF, HOWEVER, YOUR SENIOR REQUIRES ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES OR SKILLED CAREGIVERS IN WHOM YOU CAN BE CONFIDENT, THE VILLAGE AT OCOTILLO IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. Apartments are spacious and inviting but NOT EQUIPPED FOR THE DISABLED. Installing more grab bars requires approval from management and residents pay equipment and labor. Showers do not have seats unless provided by the previous tenant. Sinks, faucets, microwave, laundry cannot be reached by the wheelchair-bound. Transportation is limited. The staff was no help in making or suggesting alternate transportation arrangements. It turns out that Dial-A-Ride is an excellent, low-cost option about which I wish I had known. Nursing Staff, Information and Communication There were many other things I wish I had known. I wish I had been told more about local healthcare facilities, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and home health care. This facility shared none of this with me, the responsible party. Most facilities have one or two nurse practitioners who visit the residents once or twice a week. At the time I did not know this, nor did anyone volunteer the information. When they told me I had to get a PCP for my mother, I asked who other people used. I was not given an answer. To this day, I do not know who visits this facility. Caregivers, who are NOT closely supervised, do not have medical training, and the turnover of the small, and mostly inexperienced, nursing staff is higher than the industry standard. Staff is poor at communicating medical issues or providing actionable assistance. In the end, this was probably not the best place for my mother. The apartments are attractive, the food is quite good, and the residents are very nice. So the place is elegant and welcoming. But every day I worried that my mother was not receiving the proper care she needed to thrive in a safe, clean, environment. Every day brought some new crisis, which might have been avoided if the staff were better trained. Great for independents. Poor for those needing daily assistance. read more

My mother in law was 92 and the wonderful staff took her in with open arms. It is the very best assisted living up to end of life. The food is good, activities good but the staff is superior to any. She died there able to be with all her treasures. read more

This place is fine for a retirement home, but if your loved one need assisted living it leaves a lot to be desired. I would NOT recommend it for assisted living !! By the time we moved my mother she was covered in cuts and bruises from falling, they have a box to press for assistance so if you're not holding the box in your hand when you fall, you have no way of calling for help. With the amount of $$ they charge they should have a call button that is worn around their neck. The one nurse is very hard to get a hold of and if you do get a hold of her, she is very hard to communicate with, probably should be in another profession. I could go on and on about how dissatisfied my family was with this place, it was a nightmare! There are a number of beautiful private assisted living homes that really care about the patients and are much less money. read more

The Villages at Ocotillo do not care about their residents. My Grandmother was there and she was neglected, i.e. found on the floor hours after she fell due to lack of checking in on her. Also, saying they gave her meds when they didn't. Caregivers are very nice, but unhappy. There also is a high turnover. Many said due to mgmt not caring. They just want your money. If your parent needs assisted living or memory care DO NOT go to this place. Many residents have moved out because of this same reason. There are other places out there that actually care about your parent or grandparent. read more

Love this place!!! They have great instructors. I love Linda and Trish, and also Carly for Zumba. I'm sure there are other great instructors that I haven't yet tried. I came from Lifetime. The reason I gave the Village four stars is because of the spin program. They are all over the place. I personally was trained so as to not injure myself on the bike. These new bouncy, trendy, dance moves that would never fly on a real cycle are just too much. I want to work hard and seriously train even though I'm too chicken to ride on the road. Hopefully they will introduce more Evolution cycle. The child care is amazing. The employees are very attentive to each child. The gymnastics for toddlers is so fun. It has state-of-the-art equipment and a beautiful facility. I look forward to getting back in shape after my pregnancy. read more

If your loved one has any kind of debilitating disease such as Alzheimer's Disease this isn't the place for them. I put my parents here to help my dad and within 5 weeks they were kicked out. My mom all of a sudden started wandering. They knew she had this disease when they moved in. They took them for $2000.00 move in non refundable and the after he paid his $5900.00 bill for August they booted them out. They told him she had 24 to get out and he had 30 days. I think that is so they can keep the money he just paid. I am very upset with this place and would not recommend it if your love one has any mental issues. read more

Cosmetically, its 5 star. Don't be fooled. My father lived here from the time he was 89 until 91.5. First, medication management was completely misrepresented. He was a diabetic, insulin management falls outside of "regular medication" management, extra charges for diabetic care. "House keeping" services were included in the cost, i recleaned his apartment every week. Floors were filthy, furniture not dusted. I visited him one night, there was a "mess" on the floor in the restroom. When i went back 2 days later, it was still there. He needed assistance once a day after using the stool. One night i was there, he waited 30 minutes for someone to answer the call button. I offered to clean him off, he was too humiliated to let me. He waited, exhausted until they finally came. As he neared his end, one night i went to visit. I opened his bed for him. There was a matress protecter laid on top of his sheet. I wanted to preserve his dignaty, so i took it off the bed, only to discover his sheets were wet. Rather than change the wet sheets, they had covered them up. I would have moved him, but by this time, a move would have confused him too much. If you love your relative, find another place. If you're trying to punish them in their final days, this is the place. read more
