They have repaired their van so it is available Tues, Wed, Thurs for transportation to medical appointments. The van is much more comfortable than community bus. The Bella Vista bus is available for large outings. We went to two musical events at Heard this summer. Also baseball game, regular casino trips, lunch out on Mondays. I'd heard so many horror stories about SNF and reading the reviews online made it even scarier. I'm so happy that I chose Good Samaritan! I can't say enough about the teams that assisted me in my rehab from a broken hip. Two RN's, JoAnne and her team as well as Julie and her team made my recovery easier. The PT team, after one correction, were top notch! Here's something you don't hear too often about SNF's -- the food was awesome, that is, when Tammy was working in the kitchen. Otherwise it was dismal. The dietician was wonderful to order special food for my diet. Rosie, the Social Director, made me feel like I was with family; she is the best! All in all, the experience was good and I highly recommend Good Samaritan Society-Mesa. The only reason I couldn't go five stars is because of two incidents: Upon arrival from hospital my intake nurse was great and assured me that they would get my meds right. She was able to provide a pain med four hours after arrival according to dr's instructions. She left instructions for the night nurse to do the same every four four hours. Instead the night nurse totally ignored the dr's instructions and the ones left for her by the intake nurse. She wouldn't even come in to my room but sent word with a LPN that they didn't have the meds the doctor prescribed. (Which wasn't true). I was not offered any substitute, not even Tylenol! So for eight hours, I lay in pain, crying. The second reason I can't give five stars is because the executive team tried to dismiss me without pain meds, which I understand is not lawful in AZ. They had a temporary doctor on duty who could not or would not prescribe them. What? Yes, it's true. It was midday on Friday and I was told I would have to see my primary care physician to have him prescribe the proper pain meds. On a Friday??? (The last time I tried to get an appt with my primary care physician I had to book four weeks out.) I had remaining pain meds at this SNF that its' regular doctor prescribed and after a meeting with the nursing supervisor, we finally worked it out that those pain meds were mine and could go home with me. (My dr's office says that is the AZ State Law) It was enough to get me through the weekend. The pain meds were not strong Opiods, in fact, they just took the edge off the pain. I am allergic to Codeine and its derivatives so that eliminates all the oxy-contins, etc. Would these two events have not happened I would give Good Samaritan another star.

I toured more group homes than I can count; typically leaving in tears considering the type of 'existence' my mom would have there. As a school administrator with high standards, I expected equally high standards from other professions; my expectations were truly always shot down when I visited group homes in the Phoenix area. I began to think the 'best' was just very below-average and felt despair in considering leaving my dear mother in any of them. But... when I stepped inside the Assisted Living of Mesa, I immediately felt a difference- a huge difference. At the other homes I had visited, I always had the sense that the caregivers were putting on a happy face for visitors but somehow sensed that when the door closed, things were not so happy. I was negative about the whole group home concept and was distraught over how I could take care of my mother. The caregivers have a really hard job, I know, but I can't compromise my mom's safety and care. ​But... when walked into the Assisted Living of Mesa, I could not continue with that negative feeling. I immediately felt that the employees were committed to making the group home a HOME for everyone who visited or lived there! There was such a genuine feeling that permeated every aspect of the tour. I immediately sensed that my dear mom, who has dementia and cannot really advocate for herself, would be loved, cared for and about, and not left alone. I knew, on that initial tour, that I could go to work each day knowing that she was loved, helped, taken care of, supported, and considered part of a family. Now, Mom has been at the Assisted Living of Mesa for almost three years. They love her there, meet her needs for dementia care, and I have never worried or wondered about how she is treated. I would like to share our experience with my mom being at the Oasis for almost 8 years…read more When looking for a place for her to be, we toured several independent living places. After our tour at the Oasis, she knew this was where she wanted to be and we agreed. We loved the size of her apartment, that it had a washer and dryer, the food and the dining room, the activities(she has played bingo and pokeno for years) and loves Nicole, the social director and for how clean and pretty the landscaping and common areas are. Mom loved the servers in the dining room, the maintenance workers, who did everything from changing light bulbs and filters to air conditioning problems or whatever timely. A huge plus for us was that The Oasis at Mesa Palms is independently owned vs corporate. Jeremy, the owner, has been a pleasure to work with and is very patience and has a great attitude. Mom was at The Oasis all during covid and I was very impressed with the procedures that had in place to take care of all the residents there. Mom always felt proud of her "home" whenever any of her family and friends would come and visit her. Her grandchilden loved to have lunch or dinner with her there because of the desserts and it seemed a little fancy. When comparing pricing, the Oasis was very fair. My mom is now 92 and her health has made us make the decision to have to end her time at The Oasis, but what a great almost 8 years it has been Thanks again to everyone for taking such great care of her and for all the joy she had there.
