Found this place very close to our hotel on our second night in Rome by accident. Saw the long line and asked the people why the line. A lady said that the place has delicious gelato, they came back from the night before as it's so good and worth waiting in line. That was around 10:30pm and seems late for gelato and didn't want to wait in line that was around the corner. The next day after spending our morning at the Vatican City and had our lunch, we fall in line for this place. It was a shorter line this time, thank goodness. Everyone around has a happy smile while waiting in line like a kid in a candy store. The line was fast and finally we were in front to see all the wonderful flavors. They have so much! I opted for a waffle cone and had three flavors; mango, pistachio and tiramisu. My husband had chocolate, pistachio and I forgot what the 3rd one. It was so so goood!! Only for €3, you can't get that in the US. Too bad that it was our last night there and had our flight the next day in the morning to go back and have more. So make sure to try this place when you're in Rome. You will not regret it. They need to have one here in California! read more

There's no shortage of gelatos in Rome, but beware of the scammy tourist traps in the city. Once place you can count on is Frigidarium! This is hands down the best bang for your buck spot in the city. We stayed near the Vatican during our trip so we strolled a further, but we just considered it to be exercise before indulging. Good: Free chocolate dip!! You can either get it dipped in milk or white chocolate or add whipped cream at no extra charge. They had such cool flavors (as well as the classics) and they let you sample it too. For 2 euros for one (HUGE) scoop, this was hands down one of my favorite places. Bad: Beware of the line up, locals and tourists both love this spot, but the line moves pretty quick. Bottom line: This place was my favorite gelato spot in Italy, you have to visit! read more

Another pretty good gelato place in Rome! I got a scoop of peach in a cup, and it was good. The flavor was good, and it wasn't too sweet. You could taste the bits of peach skin in the gelato though, which I thought was interesting. I don't actually like peach skin, so I could've done without. There is a lot of good gelato in Italy. That's fact. But somehow Frigidarium manages to take the crown for me (at least for now, vote is still out). I'll admit that it did have a few advantages: namely, being recommended to me ahead of time and being one of the first places I tried but I still think it deserves the crown. For starters, the cost here is the best for what you get. I find that on average a small cup of gelato (2 flavors) costs €2.50 but here that same cup will cost you €2 and you get a free choice of a dip into chocolate (white and black). Next, I think that though Frigidarium doesn't boast as many flavors as some of the other places, I think this is actually one of their strong points. What they have, they do well. And for me personally if there are too many flavors, I get pretty overwhelmed. My favorite flavors here personally though are the banana & raspberry. A time old combination that really just never fails. You may have noticed that Giolitti has been my regular hangout place lately but hm since Frigidarium has opened back up...its really a toss up. read more

I've had gelato about 4x during my 3 day stay in Rome and this place is THE BEST. One of the flavors I got that I think are underrated is the BANANA. It tastes super fresh and is light/doesn't make you feel too gross and stuffed with dairy after. The NOCCIOLETA is also a killer flavor! I got mine DIPPED IN CHOCOLATE because I thought it would be easier to eat but in reality it made it harder because it just melted all at once. We had gelato here twice because it was so close to where we were staying. The going rate at most gelato places is €2 for a small and €3 medium €4 large. The cheese cake and salted caramel are awesome. They have their own branded flavour which was a caramel type as well. They only had about 20 flavours and half were fruity or sorbet type. There is a couple of benches outside to sit on. Don't get the mint flavour. It tastes like Halls throat candies. I ate it, but it wasn't very enjoyable. read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said. The gelato is excellent, what makes it fabulous is the chocolate dip and what makes it the best in town is the price. For about 2 Euros I got a cone with two large scoops of gelato. The choices were pretty substantial (about 14 flavors) considering they aren't artificial flavors like in the U.S. I choose the Frigidarium and the Zabayone and both were great choices for me. I suspect that the Baccio would have been nice although I did not have it. Highly recommend it regardless of season. read more

It was so good, we stop for gelato twice during our visit. They give you generous portions of gelato! A small cone came with two scoops of gelato, whip cream or chocolate (dark or white) and a wafer.. All for 2€! First time we came here we go pistachio, mango, and strawberry. Pistachio was the winner. Second time we got Biscotti and Some cherry gelato. We realized fruit gelatos aren't that taste. We enjoyed the biscotti... one of the best gelato places my lady and i have tried in Italy. one of the novelties of this place is they'll dip your gelato in white or dark chocolate and i don't think they charge extra for it! and their prices are already much cheaper than any other gelato place we've visited. we spoiled ourselves with the €3 waffle cone that comes with 3 scoops!! we've paid way more than that for a lot less. my suggestion: banana with the dark chocolate dip. it was a perfect combination! definitely try this place out. it stands out among all the other gelato places. read more

Can't ever go wrong with gelato, but this was probably one of the best I had in Italy. So glad that my friend found this through yelp. The pricing wasn't expensive, lots of great flavors to choose from, and the gelato is nice and creamy. I wanted to really like this place after reading all the reviews. However, the flavors are much too rich for my taste--the sweet flavors are too intense. I'd like to compare it to eating chocolate; I enjoy eating dark chocolate (65%+ cocoa) because with higher volume cocoa my palette is seeking the gentle sweetness rather than being spoon-fed sugar and butter. Not that this place's flavors should be downgraded, but it just doesn't suite my tastes. I prefer the more playfully sweet flavors from Old Bridge (the gelateria across St. Peter's Square). Nonetheless, their gelato has a good density, it's not too whipped so you know it's of good quality. Also, if it's your first time, make sure you try their Frigidarium flavor: it's their signature gelato! Lines get pretty long after 9 PM, so try to go sometime before while others are still having dinner at the nearby restaurants or in the daytime to avoid lines. read more
