If you're looking for a fancy high end hair salon, keep looking (and filter out these $ results). This place is a great no-frills small salon. There was just one stylist working there (Tam) with one front desk staff member. I was coming to get a much overdue hair cut. She asked me to come in with my hair freshly washed, so we got right to the cutting. I am not picky about my hair cut, just long layers, and I asked Tam to cut as much as she needed to in order to remove the damaged ends. She checked multiple times with me about the amount she was going to cut before doing so. She also asked about my preference on different things about the haircut but was capable of taking the lead on things I was unsure about. I was pleased with the results, I feel like I got a high quality cut and my hair looks happy and healthy. It was $27 (+tip) for a women's long layers cut. Safely wise, masks are required and Tam wore a mask and face shield the whole time during my visit. There was hand sanitizer readily available. I was the only customer in the salon. Overall it felt pretty safe. I will be happy to come back here to get my hair cut again! read more

As an Asian woman with a pixie cut it is really hard to find hairdressers who a) know how to cut Asian hair and b) know how to cut Asian hair that is short on a woman. Quite a tall order and I've had quite a few terrible haircuts since I went short. And can you believe a woman's haircut here is only 18 dollars? When you have short hair and have to get your hair cut pretty frequently that makes a big difference. Tam is a bonafide pro, and has the skill of listening to the kind of look you're going for while also guiding you with her experience. The haircut is always a conversation between us about what I want my hair to look like and what she knows about how to get there. It's just her cutting hair there despite there being three chairs, so definitely make an appointment. There's parking around back and you should hit up Chiang's Gourmet afterward for some Chinese food. read more

I've been coming to this place for almost a year once every 2 months, and I've always been happy with the haircut and everything else. As an Asian female with short but thick hair, I used to have to go to either a men's barber (15-minute, messy haircut) or places that mostly dealt with curly, thin hair. I'm happy now that I live within walking distance from this place that is capable of giving me a great haircut every time and also making the process comfortable. Tam is always welcoming and friendly, asking questions to check if everything looks fine to me. The pricing is also very clear and fair. The first time I came here was right after places such as hair salons were allowed to open at a limited capacity. I wanted to give a shout out to Tam, owner of Super Hair Salon on Lake City Way! Tam has cut several times and was always thrilled by the results. The first time, I brought in a photo, and she gave me that exact style - quite a feat with having naturally curly hair! Plus, her cuts are half the price or less than other places and twice the quality. I am writing today to thank Tam for making me feel so comfortable getting haircuts during COVID. In the summer, she left the door open, but now she has an air filter. She and her receptionist are the only ones in the salon and she has all of the protective gear, hand sanitizer, sanitized pens, etc (in the photo she was changing her gloves between clients). She requires that you come in with fresh-washed hair (doesn't have to be wet) so that you don't have to be face to face while she washes your hair. Most horrible haircut experience I had in my life. I asked her for an undercut and she had no clue what it is. I showed her a picture and asked if she could do it. She said yes and started cutting my hair. It turned out totally messed up. When I complained, she raised her voice with me and tell me it was my fault that I wanted that hair cut. I moved here from another city where my previous hairstylist has done that same cut countless of time and it was always fine. To be honest, I am not as angry about the bad hair cut as the fact that she tried to blame her bad job on the customer. This is a simple, no frills hair salon. Don't walk in expecting a blaring TV, radio music, or massage chairs. The things that keep this place going 5-star strong is the owner/salonist, clean and well lit environment, prices, and service. OMG THE SERVICE! I'm not fancy and I'm not looking for a spa experience here but I felt like I got one each time anyway because of Tam. There's nothing like the ASMR tingle from the cold glop on my scalp during a hair dye process tempered by the hot wax and stinging rippppp of the strip on my face while the dye is doing it's thing. The extra attention to the coloring, checking of her work against my pre-imagined look, and shampooing makes me melt into the plastic chair. Tam is awesome!! I wish I could give her six stars. I've had my hair cut by her three times now, and I'm always so pleased when I leave. Recently I had her cut my long, all-one-length hair into a slightly inverted lob, with fringe bangs. I just showed her one or two photos on Pinterest, and she knew exactly what I wanted. Her salon doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it's always comfortable and very clean. She works quickly, but is warm and friendly, and always makes sure to confirm what you want before snipping. As long as I live in Seattle, I will always get my hair cut by Tam. :) read more

I went 4 times during COVID, never before. The first and 2nd time, haircut was great. The 3rd time, Tam seemed tired. I left with an itchy scalp. I wasn't sure if it was my own issue or from the haircut so I decided to go back a 4th time. No itchy scalp but several things were sub-par. First, we had agreed several times on how much I wanted cut and she even showed me on a ruler. However, she ended up only cutting half that. That's better than too much but it's still not what I asked for. She made comments about the unhealthiness of my hair that I disagreed with. Also, the first 2 times, she cut it by parting it in the middle, saying that it would look more even that way. However, this time, she didn't part it in the middle before cutting. When I asked for a bit of layering which she did the previous 3 times, she snipped about 2 mm (not even 2 cm) off the ends. She did a quick blow-dry but my hair was still soaking wet, and I left that way. When she showed me the back in the mirror, I wasn't sure what to say b/c it was kind of stuck together due to being wet, so I was not able to tell if the cut was straight or not. read more

Tam is wonderful! Her prices are very low ($21 for woman's cut) and she is very knowledgeable about how long hair has to be in order to be tied back and whether layers are necessary or not. She made nice conversation as well, and made sure to answer all my questions about length and style, reassuring me that she would part my hair later and I didn't need to worry that she parted it down the middle when she started. I decided to give Tam a try because the stylist I have been using for years is just not "cutting it" anymore. My husband loves how Tam cuts his hair and I thought "why not?" Tam is knowledgeable, careful and basically awesome! She was able to even my hair out and make it look like I want it to look. Scissors only and very much a precision hair cut. I went here on the recommendation of a friend to whom I had mentioned I was looking for a new place to get my hair done. Don't let this place fool you, the name is not very catchy nor the storefront super trendy. However when I entered I was pleasantly surprised. The place is super clean inside and though small and "public" (meaning you could probably have a conversation w/ someone waiting to be next) it is a very pleasant environment. I have long hair, and am getting gray, especially around the temples that I prefer to have touched up. I had an all one length trim and color for a very reasonable price without high pressure to buy product. I was very happy with the color and the cut plus Tam was very pleasant person to talk with while she did my hair. The search is over, this is my new hair place!!! One thing to note is that the map via Yelp does not look accurate. The place is right on Lake City Way as the listed address indicates but the map has the symbol somewhere south of where it actually is. There is parking around back and on the street. read more

In that regard, she helped me and gave me suggestions. Seeing as how she is quite pleasant to have conversations with and is skilled in what she does, I expect to return here again. The place itself is very small, with only seating for 3 for those having their hair attended to and only 3 more for those waiting. That being said, it is still very spacious and kept very clean. Prices are unlike other places in the sense that they aren't overinflated. Only $15 for a man's cut with a tip makes this place very affordable.
