We shared and enjoyed everything it's a large portion and I had a whole serving leftover to take home. The food is very rich and flavorful. The Kabrit wasn't as tender as I would've liked, but maybe it's prepared a little differently than I am used to. The cocktails are very good and strong, you really only need one. This spot is a hidden gem or considered a local's fave. A local recommended this authentic Haitian restaurant to us. One of the best meals I had while in nawlins. The sweet plaintains with coco cream was life changing! No cap! It was so light and creamy and sweet and fresh and incredibly delicious! The grilled shrimp app was also delicious. It was enough to share. It was good and spicy. The plantains with the shrimp were bland but helped to ease the spiciness. The entrees were just as good. And so were the cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed the food here. It was my first time at a Haitian restaurant, and I didn't know what to expect, so I started with the Creole wings. I ate them so fast and immediately wished I had ordered more. I had the double-cooked goat for my entree, and it was delicious, everything was flavorful, with generous portions. Blown away. I dont even recall how i came across this place, but i found it while i was already in new orleans and already had my 'food itinerary' mapped out. The glowing reviews sold me and the place was actually walking distance from my hotel. I ordered the whole fish which came with green plantain, white rice and a tomato sauce. I haven't had that quality of redfish in over 20 years and I've had it so many times. It was so light and buttery--grilled to perfection. Visiting from California, we were interested in the many online recommendations for this restaurant and it was our first time tasting Haitian cuisine. I booked a dinner reservation on their website and although we were initially interested in taking the trolley system, the uber ride was short and easy to set up from our hotel in the French Quarter. The restaurant entrance is on a corner of two residential streets and the dining area seats plenty of different sized parties as we immediately admired the cozy warm atmosphere from our table in the center of the restaurant. The cocktail menu included unique ingredients not typically found in the many bars we had already visited and I loved the dried sweet plantains in mine! This is my second time here, visiting from NYC and Fritai didn't disappoint. I ordered the griot with rice and beans with plantain, my guest and I shared the mac and cheese. The mac was a very generous portion and really good. The griot was fine; it was a bit under-seasoned and fried too hard. Also, it didn't have the fatty pieces that make for a really good griot. The rice and beans was perfectly cooked but needed some salt to really be complete but really good otherwise. Overall, while I can't say the food was as good as what you might get from grandma, it was a tasty and fairly authentic representation of Haitian food. The griyo was chunked pieces of pork, deep fried and crispy served with beans and rice, smashed and fried plantains and "pikils" which is a tangy slaw with scotch bonnet? The legim is a spinach stew i think? and you can choose your protein. I went with the pork again. I was honestly expecting both dishes to be spicier than they were. Seated quickly, but I will say there was only one waitress and took some time to get her attention throughout our time here. Fritai platter was a good way to try everything, but you do also get the plantains with many other dishes (like we did with the creole chicken). My husband really liked the creole chicken, it was simple but the sauce was very good. I couldn't tell if it was the same sauce as the creole hot wings we got, but those were tasty as well. The rice & beans that came with the creole chicken were good, my negative is just that they were cold. The fried red snapper was a nice size and the meat was fresh and tender. The rice and beans and fried plantains were all very good. The sos pwa with oxtails was very flavorful. The staff had god recommendations I think the best was to get on of the set up drinks.
