Beautiful space. Incredible food. Drinks were 1200/10. Their hurricane was INSANE. Such a fun, creative & yummy take with tbe menu. Under different circumstances I would've tried to chef's choice menu. Next time! Our server was a sweetheart and so was the host who kindly took our photo.

Quite possibly the best meal we had in New Orleans. Dare I say better than Commander's or Brennan's? Yes, I dare say. Wonderful and friendly service. Really enjoyed the hushpuppy starter, but the star of the evening was the SALAD?! The salad was sooooooo good. So crisp, perfectly seasoned, herbaceous. We could not stop eating the salad! Had to go with the main staple they've had on the menu for 11 years, the curried goat. Wow, what a fabulous entree, no wonder it's stuck around for so long. Overall, an impressive meal, fabulous service, and yes, better than any other restaurant we had during our trip.

Really extraordinary meal with family! This was the highlight of our trip to New Orleans. Expertly crafted with gracious and attentive service. Really couldn't ask for anything better. We did the family style dinner and each course was better than the last. Would love to come back.

This establishment is a clean 5 stars across the board. The food is extremely well prepared. The biscuits are perfect with 2 jazzy butters on the side, honey butter and bacon butter. The pork belly again perfectly prepared-- lots of cilantro. It is a dish that a little too much for me personally because it's fat. The snapper was tasty and the shrimp with dumplings will make you think of chicken and dumplings but with shrimp. All yummy. The service of over the top good. Your water cup will not go dry. The prices were also reasonable. The decor was industrial chic. Large bar scene. We were able to see a glimpse of Chef Nina who we followed faithfully on Top Chef. A must try.

I was in town for a work conference when a colleague highly recommended this restaurant. Another colleague and I were lucky enough to secure dinner reservations one evening, and it truly exceeded expectations. We were staying at the Hilton, so it was an easy walk from our hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated by the hostess. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered excellent recommendations that made ordering effortless. I started with the pig ears and had the fried chicken as my entrée, while my colleague chose the vegetarian option. You can find pig ears in Honolulu, but not prepared in this culinary style -- it was a creative and flavorful starter. The fried chicken was perfectly juicy and well-seasoned, and the honey butter added a delightful balance of savory and tangy sweetness. The ambiance was classy yet calm, making it ideal for both conversation and a relaxed dining experience. We also enjoyed lemon drop martinis with dinner -- crisp, refreshing, and the perfect complement to our meals. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking to enjoy a refined and memorable dinner in New Orleans.

I started with hot tea, lemongrass ginger. I love that the water comes with the tea bag already steeping along with 2 more unopened bags on the side for good measure. We got the buttermilk biscuits with whipped ricotta and berries. Berry good! My beau got the crawfish pot pie. It was rich and the pastry was awesome. I got the spicy black beans. I assumed that it would come with more pork belly, but the order of the items and the price was should've probably tipped me off that the beans were the star of the dish. The texture of the beans, crispy rice cake and egg white, and runny yolk were so harmonious with the welcome bite and spice of the jalapeño. I loved the flavor of my Hurricane Buster. It was strong, but balanced. Our servers were good. The water and table runners were especially warm!

I was so excited to try Compère Lapin because I love Nina Compton ever since I saw her in the New Orleans season of Top Chef. When a group of friends and I were in The Big Easy, we definitely made a reservation to dine at Compère Lapin! The food was fantastic, as expected, but our service was a little lacking, unfortunately. Our server was not very friendly, forgot to fulfill my last drink order, looked at me like I was crazy when I asked her to explain what one of the desserts was composed of, and then argued with us about splitting the check. So aside from the lackluster service, as I said - the food was definitely on point, so that did redeem the visit, mostly. We were there for brunch so they did not have a set 3-course menu or anything, but we sort of created that ourselves. I started with the Smoked Fish Dip and it was fantastic. Smoky, as the name implies, and just the right amount of salty. The dip came with tostones (fried plantains), for dipping, and they went so well with the dip. Definitely try this out if you are getting a starter! For my main dish, since we were there at brunch, I picked the Croque Madame. It was, as my friend put it, "cartoonishly large" (but not in a bad way, in an awesome way). Ham and egg and one of my favorite things - pimento cheese! Yum. For a dessert, I got the Mango Creme Brûlée, and it was delish. I am normally used to creme brûlée having a creamy, almost coffee flavor, so trying this fruity one was awesome. Same great caramelized topping, but with a mixture of sweet/tart berry fruits and creamy fruit pudding-like filling. So tasty. Compère Lapin is located in the Old No. 77 Hotel, so it carries some of that same style with it into the restaurant. Cool leather touches, brick walls, and wood features. Compère Lapin means "brother rabbit" in French, and that is also worked into the decor with lots of little rabbit touches - cute! The second issue with the service was that we requested separate checks. We specifically checked beforehand on their site that we could do that so nobody had to put everyone's (not inexpensive) bill all on their one card. We asked our server to split the bill when it came, and she said "we don't do that for groups" in a snippety way (we were 5 people), and we mentioned that, on their website, it says they don't split checks for group over six, which we were under. She went back to check with the manager, and did end up splitting it, but her attitude from the beginning to the end kind of put a damper on the whole experience. Right over the very impressive blue/wood bar at the entrance of Compère Lapin, is chef Nina Compton's James Beard Award. And that is very deserved, don't get me wrong at all with my review. The food was absolutely fantastic. I just wish the service had matched that level of greatness!

This is an older review from when I visited during Black History Month some years ago for a four-course dinner. It was my first time going, and both the food and service were great. Each course was uniquely prepared with thoughtful pairings that complemented one another really well. Revisiting this post is a reminder that I definitely need to go back and try more items on the menu. It's a cute spot for date night or a night out with friends.

I love the TV Show Top Chef. So whenever I travel to a bigger city I always look to see if a former contestant has restaurants. It's been a while since I have been in New Orleans and I knew when I went back I wanted to check out Nina Compton's food. Mix of Carribean and Creole cuisine. Turns out Compere Lapin was next door to our hotel, so it was meant to be. I was able to easily make a reservation using Open Table. They do require a credit card on file and will charge you $25 if you no show. I knew we were showing up so didn't mind the formality! Cocktails to start. I'm a sucker for a wine and liquor concoction so ran with the Lucian's Gold (rum, lillet, lemon, mint, liquor 43, and sparkling wine). Nice and refreshing. There were four of us dining and we all had different opinions on which small bites/ starters to order, so we ended up with all of them! Not complaining. The Jalapeño & Scallion Hushpuppies with a cilantro creama were crispy outside and soft inside. The Blackened Pork Ears with a smoked aioli had nice crunch. But dude the Buttermilk Biscuits with honey butter and bacon butter. Wow. The biscuits were the winner for me. Perfectly executed, soft inside, a little crispy on the outside, and both of the butters were so flavorful velvety. I mean bacon butter? Note there's only two biscuits per order. For main meal we decided to order the COOLinary 2025 Prix Fix Dinner which was a 3 course offering of one of the included first, second, and dessert items for $55 a person. This actually was a pretty incredible deal as a the majority of the menu options were part of the deal and the portions were pretty close in size to the regular entrees that cost $30+ on their own. If you are a foodie like me and like to try a bunch of delicious things do this. My husband and I both did and ordered different items so we got to try 6 dishes. My first dish was a fish selection of so kind but sadly can't recall exactly what it was and is not currently still on the menu. I do recall it being very tasty and light which was needed with so much food. If the Jerk Pork Belly (with plantain crema and tamarind jus) is available get that, that's one of the best pork bellies I've ever had and loved the jerk preparation, so flavorful. For our second course, we got the Fried chicken (with jerk honey butter, coconut grits and peanuts). This was a huge piece of chicken and it was fried to perfection. Nice crunch from the skin and peanuts. The grits were silky smooth. The Semolina Dumplings with gulf shrimp (run down sauce, and soft herbs) was also stealer. Soft dumplings and great sauce. For dessert I ordered the Mango Creme Brulee with coconut and berries. Full disclosure I don't like shaved coconut, but it was a pretty mild application thank goodness. The mango flavor really shined. The sugar was perfectly brûléed providing a nice top layer to crack into. My husband got the Bread pudding with apple curd and banana. I was pretty full by this point but it was flavorful, warm, and yummy. That comforting feeling you want from a bread pudding. Compere Lapin was everything I wanted it to be. I left way too full, and in a bit of a hurry as we had to get to a ghost tour, but amazing meal and great service. I heard that Nina was there cooking that night, but sadly didn't get to see her. That would have been amazing but regardless she is a Top Chef finalist for a reason, as she executed everything I ate to perfection!

The service at the bar was great, and the bartender made great drinks. Ordered the biscuits to start & was kinda disappointed. They were dry and it was "just a biscuit" nothing to get again. The star of the show was the chicken that was perfectly cooked alongside the corn grits. Would come back just for that.

Came here with friends to celebrate our college reunion! Good: - The dishes were all unique - I liked the fried catfish and the pork belly was really savory and the cornbread was much better with the sweet and savory butters - The ambiance was nice, it was very dark and hard to see inside Bad: - Pretty expensive and each dish is a little small - It takes forever for the dishes to come out and hard to wave down the staff, even though we already told them that we were in a rush Overall this place was a fancy upscale place and the fanciest that we went to during the trip, but also it was a bit too pricey to go again

A gem in NOLA! Worth a visit to experience wonderful flavors and a great vibe. We had a family dinner and enjoyed every bite. Save room for dessert!

Overall, my visit was just okay. I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while to show support, but I left feeling underwhelmed... The highlights: * Ambiance & vibe at the bar * Art & decor throughout the space * Pork belly * Oxtail empanadas * Cocktails The just-okay parts: * Service: While our server was kind, she forgot items we ordered three different times. A few things never arrived, and we also received dishes we didn't order. She also only checked on us once... * Biscuits: Pretty good! The texture was great when hot, especially with the honey butter (wasn't a fan of the bacon butter). * Snapper: The skin was perfectly crispy and flavorful, but unfortunately, the fish itself was overcooked and dry, which was disappointing. * Espresso: Severely under-extracted, overly bitter, and hard to drink. Overall rating: ~3-3.5/5 I'm glad I finally tried it out, but I don't see myself coming back. That said, it honestly feels like it might've just been an off night... I'd heard such good things about this place and saw the strong ratings, so maybe my experience wasn't the norm.

Both were beautifully presented and a perfect ending to an already amazing dinner. Between the food, service, gorgeous interior, and overall ambiance, Doris Metropolitan delivered the complete dining experience. Overall, the experience was average and did not fully meet those expectations. The charcuterie and cheese board, priced at $68, was underwhelming in both portion size and value. It included only six thin slices of cured meat and a small selection of cheeses. Unfortunately, one of the cheeses had an unpleasant flavor that made it inedible for our table. The bread service was a highlight, offering a nice variety of breads and accompaniments. The ribeye was cooked well and enjoyable, but it did not stand out from what I've experienced at other upscale steakhouses. The five-cheese couscous was the biggest disappointment, as it lacked the rich, flavorful profile its description suggested. While the service and presentation were appreciated, the overall dining experience did not justify the high expectations or the price point.

Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. Our bartender offered great conversation and gave good recommendations and descriptions of the various cocktails. I had the Sonnet to my Wife, made with mezcal, St. Germaine, aperol, and lemon. Tart and mildly smoky. I also had the Adding machine, made with tequila, guava, velvet falernum, pomegranate, and lime. A little sweet, a little spicy with a complex flavor profile. I enjoyed both drinks. If not for my husband, I would have stayed for at least a few hours trying the whole menu. So many beautiful cocktails to choose from. They have beer and wine as well, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice. You can get those anywhere. They also have breakfast with eggs, sausage, omelettes, pancakes. Dinner with savory little numbers like smoked bone marrow and braised short ribs with smoked gouda polenta. Salads, grilled quid, pork chops, scallops, various veggies (crispy brussels sprouts, caramelized leeks, charrted broccolini, roasted mushrooms). I would gladly return for some of these delicious selections.

We were really looking forward to this place. It was my husband's birthday and we drove in from…read moreAustin to stay at Peter and Paul and of course heard that the restaurant was excellent. Off the bat, I want to say that the hotel is so wonderful and we will be back! The restaurant, not so much. I hate leaving bad reviews and almost never do, but the food wasn't very good and I feel like there's so much incredible food in New Orleans that it's a terrible shame to spend one of our two nights dining here, particularly for a birthday. The peach and burrata salad didn't have much flavor. The dish could benefit from either a drizzle of balsamic, maybe honey, or at least some fresh basil. It wasn't balanced, just creamy with no acid or salt. The ceviche was surprisingly also not very flavorful. Once again a notable lack of acid. The shrimp was on the fishy side, and it was served with plantain chips that were not large enough to be used as scoops, though ostensibly they were the vehicle for the ceviche. We fumbled with trying to get the ceviche on the chips until eventually giving up and just using a fork. We ordered the littleneck clams and added on the rolls so we could mop up the sauce. When the dish arrived, it came with three rolls, and then two minutes later our server brought the rolls we ordered--totally neglecting to mention that it already came with rolls. We had a silly amount of rolls on a small table that we did not end up eating, and on top of all this, the rolls were very dry and not fresh. They were toasted, but you could tell they hadn't been very fresh to begin with. Our final dish was the snapper, but unfortunately our server forgot to put that order in. She was very nice, but I sensed maybe not that experienced. She put the order in when we were done with everything else, and we realized that it was going to be a while. At this point we honestly just wanted to get out of there. So, I told her to not worry about it after all and that we didn't need the snapper. I communicated this immediately after learning that the order hadn't been put in when we ordered it. We waited around a long time for her return, hoping to request the check when a man emerged from the kitchen and came up to our table. He asked us if we wanted the snapper or not in a very irritated and gruff tone, he was not happy. I told him we did not, and mentioned that our server neglected to put the order in, and he walked off. I did not appreciate him aggressively marching out to confront us in front of the whole dining room like that, it was weird and unprofessional. He ended up coming back and expressing that there was a miscommunication, but it was inappropriate for him to be confrontational in the first place and if he required clarification, it's the server's job to be the liaison. In spite of the gorgeous, romantic atmosphere, our experience here was just very weird and stilted. It made me sad that my husband had to have such a strange birthday. Stay at Hotel Peter and Paul and make dinner reservations elsewhere.
