Any given Saturday night, when we are trying to figure out where to get take-out, here is the common conversation: "Do you want to get pizza?" "Ehhh, I guess..." "OR we could get FROM THE BOOT pizza..." Eyes wide - "YEEEESSSSSSSS." Seriously. It's that good. We drive by ten other pizza places to get there. It's a pain in the butt. It's totally worth it. Crispy crust, not greasy, great fresh toppings. No brainer. My Mom traveled here from out of town for a meeting and called me to get directions to From the Boot for lunch. Mom doesn't even EAT LUNCH. When we want to brave the crowds (and the no reservation policy - boooooo!), we eat in. The meals are always fabulous. Pasta freshly made. Awesome sauces. BYO. Great service. Really, you never have a subpar meal here. The *only* complaint I have is that it's darn near impossible to get a table in a reasonable amount of time on the weekends. And there's a bit of hustle to get you in and out, even if you go late in the evening with no one waiting. Really wish they would take reservations because we would eat-in much more often. But don't pass up a chance to go here - either for take-out or to eat-in. You won't be disappointed. read more

Excellent food but service is terrible. This is 2nd time in a row that service has been really bad. It was so bad I had to go to the bar to ask for refills of my drink and then find someone to give my check to pay and leave. We were promised bread which we never received until had to ask again if they were being bread. We were the only table at the restaurant on both occasions when we arrived for early 3:30 dinner, so it was not like a busy time. Ashamed as food is good but we will never go back. read more

'The Boot' isn't what it use to be. I have regularly been going to the Lafayette Hill location for years and have always raved about it. I have to say it seems that after the Ambler location opened it hasn't been the same. And not just because Eric the host is gone and the poportions are no longer big enough for left-overs. Their piping hot out of the oven garlic knots were such a treat, but the last time I was there we were served a basket of eight knots (not the usual six) and they weren't together or hot. I believe we were served someone elses leftovers. I didn't realize this until talking about it with friends. Now I know to keep an eye on what they are serving and I will definately speak up and then never return. read more

This place was great, a little small and cramped but the food I got made me want to come back for more. I couldn't decide becUse everything on the menu was appealing and all the dishes coming out looked so good. I decided to go with the special which included scallops, shrimp and crabmeat in a creamy sauce over linguine. It was so good, I was so happy Joe, the waiter recommended it. I love From the Boot. There is something to be said about their consistency, every time we go I have a really good meal. First, they bring you warm garlic rolls. If you don't like garlic, these won't be your thing but they are delicious! We always get the pasta fagioli soup which is homemade and one of my favorite soups. We have had a variety of dishes, from pasta to chicken and don't have any complaints. The employees and always so friendly! It is BYOB too. It does get crowded so expect a wait of you go later than 645 on the weekend. read more

Delicious! Eggplant rollatini to die for, and hands down, the best gnocci I've ever had. Get it with vodka sauce. Gnocci isn't high on my list generally, but I've been craving that dish for the past 48 hours. I'll be back next time I'm in town, for sure. read more

Wanted to try something new, so we found on Yelp with 4 stars. What's up, people?????? Family of 4 and here is what we ordered: pasta fagoli soup -- very peppery and the farfalle was overcooked; fried calamari -- the breading was not seasoned and the serving was minimal (and no lemons!); eggplant appetizer which was good but could use more eggplant and less cheese; pasta bolognese (which they make with cream) -- SO over peppered that we had to send back; pasta nicola -- not bad; we also had one of their sandwiches which was mediocre. The wait staff were courteous and attentive. The atmosphere was casual and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals (maybe we should have ordered pizza?) but be careful in the winters (this night it was in the 40s) as every time the front door opened we felt a chill come in (can't imagine what it would be like when it's freezing outside!). We paid our very expensive bill and left without ordering dessert. We have had much more wonderful meals elsewhere, homemade pasta, etc and paid the same. Will not return. read more

Always a quality meal. Whether you're eating casual family dinner or celebrating a milestone, FTB always delivers. Their garlic rolls could be a meal in and of themselves and the vodka sauce is a 10! Dined here with my wife, sister and sister's SO. The space was a little cramped but we made do. My immediate thought upon reading the menu was that I will need to return, because there were simply too many appetizing selections from which to choose. I ended up going for the Chicken Siciliano which includes prosciutto, mozzarella and a white wine sauce. My wife ordered Lobster Ravioli, my sister had a Carne Pizza and her SO had Saltimbocca. I sampled each dish (as well as the arugula salad) and was simply blown away by each one. Service was attentive and courteous throughout the evening and when they brought out my sister's tiramisu I thought I had reached heaven at last (though I opted for the chocolate hazelnut gelato). Dinner for 4 including desserts was $144, and of course the most wonderful part was being able to bring our own wine and not be smacked with the typical markup you'd face at non-BYOB establishments. Stopped by here for lunch on a weekend. I got chicken piccata which usually comes with a salad and potatoes. They had just recently opened and the waitress asked if she could substitute pasta for my potatoes since they weren't ready yet. I didn't mind.. my dish was delicious. I never would've guessed this location would have such a great restaurant, you can't judge a book by its cover as the saying goes... We ordered the house salad, bruschetta, pizza, and linguini with arrabiata sauce and everything was excellent. The bruschetta was perfectly made with awesome bread, just the right amount of garlic and olive oil, and the plum tomatoes they use are perfectly ripe and sweet. The vinaigrette on the house salad was the best I've ever had. The linguini was cooked just right and anywhere else I've ordered arrabiata I have to ask them to add more spice, here it was perfect (it was really spicy)! I didn't expect the pizza to be so good but again they amazed me. You can tell they have it down to a science, everything is cooked just right. The chocolate hazelnut gelatto at the end helped to cool me down after the arrabiata. I can't wait to try the caprese and ravioli next time we go. I would have given five stars but I have to go again and if its just as good I'll up the rating (and the service could have been a little bit better). read more

we went here Saturday night around 5:30 pm for dinner with the kids (a 1 yo and a 2 yo). it was great. half of the restaurant at that time had at least one high-chair at the table. the menu is diverse and reasonably priced. we ordered the kids' cheese ravioli for my son, but he ended up really chowing down on our margherita pizza which had a great sauce (wish it had a little more cheese though). the crust was very thin the way we like it. overall, we would definitely recommend this restaurant. come early if you have kids and can't wait--otherwise, bring some wine so you can leisurely wait until a table comes open. read more

If you are from the suburbs, consider Olive Garden to be good, and do not have discerning taste, read no further. This is the place for you. This is a small, below average, Italian restaurant located in a strip mall. The ambience leaves much to be desired. The place is dark, a little dingy, and brown very brown. The ingredients are of poor quality. I would maybe buy them for myself for lunch but I would certainly not serve them to guests. The Parmesan cheese contains anti-caking agent, the tomatoes are bland, the menu is uninspired. I have no culinary training nor am I particularly good at cooking. However, I can prepare better food than they serve, no problem. read more

Pros: -The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. -The sandwiches are very large and reasonably priced -Plenty of parking out front (note that this review is for the Lafayette Hill location - the Ambler location, which I drove past but did not stop at, did not have any parking that I could see. Maybe in the back?) -The complimentary infinite supply of garlic rolls were pretty tasty (though I think the other reviewers oversell them a bit - they were decent, but not phenomenal) and the waitstaff was very prompt about refilling them. -Low pressure, informal, cozy setting -Immediate seating Cons: -Most of the food was pretty overpriced (especially the various dishes themed around tenderized chicken/veal slices - for the portion sizes and complexity of the dish, they should have been about the same price as the sandwiches, but were instead twice the price). -They pack your left-overs for you, which is nice, but the young man who packed mine only packed half my sandwich. I assume he threw away the other half (which was about a quarter of the total sandwich). Overall it was decent food, the service was pretty good, and the sandwich was a fair price. It wasn't great, and I've definitely had better (in the area) for the price-tag - but it wasn't bad, either. I would consider going again, if I happened to be in the area and hungry, but I wouldn't seek it out. read more

As someone who never orders red sauce out, this place is the only thing I have found that comes close to Nonna's cooking on a Sunday! The staff and service are good and with homemade, full-of-love food makes you realize you can't get any better! Just had to add that their linguini in white clam sauce is one of the best meals I've ever eaten. It was so full of flavor i wanted to go back again the next night for another. The calamari salad was also fantastic. But I still have to hold back one star for not including a side salad. This place isn't haughty or pretentious. It's a great joint loved by locals.
