We discovered Frond Plant Shop while waiting for our lunch. The plant shop is unlike the big box garden centers in that it is a boutique-style plant store...quaint, charming with nicely curated plants. Frond Plant Shop is located on South Lamar, offering a wide array of plant offerings from houseplants ranging from classic favorites to more uncommon and eclectic varieties. The plants are sold with planters and plant themed accessories. The space feels calm, creative, and well-crafted. In addition, at the front of the store there is a small area with seating, where folks can seat to do computer work as a student, remote worker or someone who wants to escape the trappings of being at home or work. One of Frond's clear delineators was the health of their plants. Their plants looked healthy, vibrant and lush. In addition to plants, you can purchase candles, plant accessories, and plant food. I ended up purchasing a concentrated plant food. Susan, the store manager, was welcoming and helpful in offering recommendations. Pricing was a mixed bag - smaller accessories were affordable, whereas bigger plants tended to be on the pricier side. If I were contemplating buying a new plant, Frond would be at the top of my list. read more

Oh my! What an adorable little plant shop. I saw it from the street while driving and just knew I had to go in. They have a nice little selection of greenery in small, medium, and large sizes. The planters are adorable but overpriced. The diffusing oils or whatever smell so amazing when you walk in that you don't want to leave. But you can only circle it so many times so you have to, ha! We're talking plants, people. Tall, short, stumpy, abundant, small, you name it - it's there. Not only is the shop over growing with green, it's so adorably curated, too. The shop is set up in such a way, you feel like you're on a hip person's patio or a Pinterest set. Either way, you want everything in there but know you could never make your house look as cute even if you had it all. There's a big selection of pottery and plant holders - wicker and porcelain, that it's pretty overwhelming. So definitely expect to spend some time and money in there. The prices are reasonable, so you can end up going over board as you rack things up, but they're decent enough price points you can typically get least get a pot with your new plant. read more

This review is about my online shopping experience which could not have been more pleasant!!! I wanted to send my brother and his soon-to-be husband a little gift to mark what would have been their wedding date. I called to ask about shipping time and the woman on the phone was so nice and helpful. I went ahead and ordered online and it shipped out IMMEDIATELY. Immediately as in, I emailed 10 minutes later asking to attach a card and it had already shipped out haha. I was offering to pay for a card- not only did they not charge me for the card, they sent it out separately and they sent it priority to make sure it would arrive together with the plant. The plant and the card ended up getting there the VERY next day! Best of all? It is so gorgeous and healthy. I'm so glad I went with Frond! It was truly the special gift I wanted it to be. Absolutely adorable boutique plant shop. Plants are priced like Austin real estate, yikes! Ceramic pots and hanging planters are unique and fairly priced considering they are different than what you would find at any large garden center. Unfortunately, I could only browse and admire the plants since much of the stock is easily twice the price of most other places. This is a great place to stop and pick up a gorgeous gift for a friend if you have lots of money to spend or if you want to treat yourself to something special. read more

This adorable little shop satisfies all of my Jungalow dreams and fantasies. Every time we're in Austin we make a special trip to get my fix. Tons of variety of plants and unique baskets and pots. Great resource for local gift giving, candles and cards and terrariums etc. The sweetest little artsy plant lady, Sara, is always super helpful and knowledgeable about all the plants and has great tips and tricks on how to care for them once you get them home. I bought the prettiest little plant and rose gold pot and a ton of other goodies and they all made it safe and sound all the way back to Colorado on the plane with me and my plants are thriving still. You do not have to be sociable but at least speak to everyone when they enter. It speaks to how you value customers. I mean we left because the energy seemed kind of "Oh Well". Wow, a treasure! Very reasonable prices for handmade pots, must of which have drainage holes. Also nice seating so you can admire all the foliage. I wish they had some rarer plants for such a specialty store, but all plants were in thriving condition and appeared very healthy. read more

Experience was not what I expected I guess. Their Instagram has SO many followers and showcases a variety of beautiful products. I'm a plant person and think the planter is almost as important as the plant, so I was really excited to come browse their cute selection. First 'eh' thing about frond is that the shop is extremely small, so any word you say the shop clerk can hear which is kind of awkward. But in a boutique, the employee should be welcoming and kind, or at least not awkward. I was pretty disappointed in the customer service. We were greeted when we entered, but other than that all they said to us was "sweet" when we brought a planter to the register to purchase, and then "yep, free stickers" when I asked if the stickers were free.. and that's it. I think that a boutique store with SUCH high prices needs employees with great customer service skills to maintain good business and create loyal customers. Paying $50+ for a pot & a mediocre customer service/ shopping experience just feels not worth the price. I was excited to support this small business, but my experience left me feeling like the price wasn't worth it and I am not compelled to return. Frond, you have so much potential. You have done such a good job selling your business on social media, but focus on your in-store experience and customer service if you want to be successful in the long-term!! read more

Very friendly and cool environment. They had all kinds of succulents and modern ways to display them. I hate to say it, but this place has really gone downhill. Their prices used to be reasonable, and of course it's still a beautiful store, but looks aren't everything, and unfortunately that's the only thing this store has going for it. Monstrously high prices (there was actually an unpotted 6" plant for over $40), and the plants aren't very well taken care of - their $50 (!!! no lie, I got one 1/3 the size at Sprouts for $5 and it was the size of this one within a few months) monstera was wilting, and those are some of the easiest plants to take care of. The cashier said they started ordering their plants from Florida because they have a better selection so they had to raise prices because shipping is expensive, but if you can get it in Florida but not in Texas it likely won't thrive here anyway, so that seems like a poor decision. I was on a time crunch to buy a birthday present or I wouldn't have bought anything - I definitely won't be back. The Great Outdoors and East Austin Succulents/Tillery Street Plant Company have a better selection, better prices, and more friendly, knowledgeable staff. read more
