    Hand crafted corsage
    Aja P.

The people at this nursery are absolutely fabulous, kind, wonderful souls, and they need a review, because I have never had such a phenomenal experience! It is prom season, and the only corsage options I could find locally were boring flower options, roses, orchid... Nothing that smells crazy good or was really fabulous, or unusual. Now, before you bite my head off and say that there are tons of floral shops that do have items like this. I'd also like to say, that I didn't think about a corsage until the week of. So... I was on my own. I got the bright idea that we could make our own corsage with some awesome smelling flowers, if only I could find a gardenia plant that was in bloom. Monday, I started calling all of the garden places I could think of, Lowe's, Home Depot, and then, even though I thought it was gonna be far more expensive... an actual nursery. These kind souls took the time to go out and see which plants might have had blooms, that were good enough for a corsage. Then, they even called me back shortly after we hung up to find out which day prom was, and tell me that the bloom certainly wouldn't last until Saturday night. They put up with my Tom foolery again when I called Saturday morning, and sent out one of their lovely green thumbs to AGAIN find us a perfect plant, and HE suggested backing it with some of their profusely growing and glorious smelling jasmine. AND the gardenia? A measly 24$ (them's warehouse garden prices right there) Anyway... The corsages were great smelling and gorgeous. And the plant they so lovingly chose for us was covered in buds. It is blooming, and fragrant, and beautiful tonight, and it reminded me that I had not yet written a review of these wonderful wonderful people who made our day so special. Thanks guys!

Best place in town I believe. Great selection of both perennial and annuals. I will always cherish this gem and the times I have spent there.

Great selection of plants and the staff are very knowledgeable. One even came up to me and gave me on some tips to get seeds out of the perinneal I was buying. I I spent 189 on my haul and I thought I would spend wayyy more on the amount of plants I got. 10/10

We recently built a planter and given it's late in the season, wanted some annuals to enjoy. We visited a few different nurseries around Austin and finally made our purchases here. The annuals were $2 each and looked healthy. We wish there was more variety but it is mid-August after all. This nursery was well organized, we got all our questions answered, people were not necessarily maintaining 6 feet distance but were wearing masks.

Super friendly staff and a lot of fun plants, particularly if you are planning for sprucing up your outdoors. For example, there were some gorgeous purple Passion flower vines (that I have been looking everywhere for) and a good selection of herbs and sedums. The cons are that the houseplant selection seemed pretty small. Super bonus right now are there are a few that seem housed over towards perennials like really nice 4 inch pot spider plants and 4 inch purple oxalis for $2!!!! Prices seem pretty standard for small nurseries although there were a couple things that actually were cheaper than big box stores!

Very enjoyable, customer service was on point. They helped me pick out the perfect gift. The shop was lovely. Great location. 10/10 would highly recommend for your plant endeavors!

    Four $25 "three gallon" plants?
    Dmitri W.

We bought three Blue Plumbagos from Shoal Creek nursery and realized we need a fourth so we bought another one which you see on the far left here. The three that we originally bought bloomed with white flowers so we dug them up and brought them back and exchange them for the three little runts on the right that you see here. It was annoying that they sold us the wrong product in the first place, but for $25 each for a 3 gallon plant, I expect a 3 gallon plant. The root ball in these plants was barely a quart, so they sold us 3 gallons of soil with tiny little plants. I guess they can get away with inflating their prices, and selling inferior products, because of where they are located, but I will be bringing my business somewhere else.

Most likely you'll first park your vehicle, then walk in the main entrance with its grand rustic signage. Or perhaps you'll venture inside the building at the front. You might check out their aviary, try to find their two tortoises, turtles, or admire their pottery selection. If you go in far enough, lights string themselves between trees towering above you. If you go all the way back, you'll find a sheltered greenhouse area with some neat displays. In the fountain area, water will be aerated, and alligator heads will float around. You might go around reading signage describing various plants, how they can be used, conditions in which they thrive, or how they drip irrigate their nursery plants. Some signs suggest they can source plants for you if needed. You might encounter the friendly people running the place who'll explain to you how everything works. But other, it's a nice e area to walk around. Across the other side of the parking lot, they have a museum set up inside a large garage. Entry to this nursery is free, but if you're looking to buy a plant, you can grab a cart, find your selection, and then bring it over to one of the checkout stations that they have setup. Otherwise, there is plenty of space to walk around and explore.

This fancy-pants "nursery" in North Austin offers financing for your project (or partners with…read moresomeone who does). That should tell you: it's looking for customers with fat wallets. I asked if they were a native plant nursery on the phone and the salesman responded "we guarantee all our plants, so we wouldn't be doing that for plants that won't grow well here." NOTE: That is not an affirmative answer--it's an evasion. Selection is limited to medium to large containers, and well-established trees in MASSIVE containers (those certainly require delivery, I'm thinking). No seedlings or small containers, that I could see. This was a huge disappointment, since I was led to believe I was going to a native plant nursery, and that I would be offered assistance and advice. Neither turned out to be true. This nursery really wants you to buy into letting THEM do the work for your "project," from design to installation to maintenance. If you've got unlimited cash to burn and you want to pay them to maintain their work, go for it! This doesn't feel like a place where you can come as a gardening novice and get advice and ideas--what you're going to get (assuming that someone decides to speak to you while you're there--someone did speak to me in fact, to tell me nicely to move out of the way) is an upsell--or a brush-off, if you're deemed too small-fry to waste their time with you. Of course this impression is formed by a few minutes on the phone where the SALESMAN (not gardener, not plant expert) encouraged me to bring in photos of my yard so they could help with the design, followed by an excited trip to the nursery, and discovering that what's here is mostly large containers, lots of very large trees (get three large trees for only $10,000!), and lots of (I think) non-natives. Don't come here if you want to learn how to do things yourself. If you want full sized trees to plop into the ground and someone to do the work of maintaining them, or you really like the idea of financing an instantly landscaped yard without having to do anything but open your wallet or going into substantial debt--then Moon Valley may be just the place for you.
