The perfect toasted hot ham and cheese sandwich.
    Jessie D.

As we were traveling from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee back to Winston-Salem, NC and we cut through Cherokee to visit the Cherokee Bear Zoo. It was beyond lunch time and I hadn't eaten at all, so I looked around as we drove and saw the sign for this place. I love a good deli sandwich so I asked my husband to pull in and let me run in. It was a Wednesday afternoon and after lunch, so there were only a few people inside. Upon entering, I went in a door that was at a dessert counter. There were few cupcakes and treats in the case, so I quickly went on past to find the counter to order a sandwich. The ladies at the counter were super friendly and took my order quickly. I chose a hot ham and cheese sandwich with bbq potato chips and a fountain drink. The order took about 7 or 8 minutes to be prepared and brought to me in a box to the table where I sat and waited. There was seating outside by the river/creek(?) I believe and then there was seating inside. It looks like it was once another restaurant or some other establishment taht they have transformed into this deli. Don't let the looks of the inside deter you, though! The food was phenomenal! My sandwich was so delicious! I have made note that if ever in the area again, I will be back!

I stopped in at Front Porch Cakery & Deli in Cherokee, NC and was honestly surprised in the best way. I ordered the fried bologna sandwich, and it tasted like pure comfort -- perfectly grilled, thick-cut, and so satisfying. Also tried some sweets that were delicious. The food came out super quick, and the staff was friendly, warm, and welcoming. It has that small-town, home-cooked charm that makes you want to come back. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

This ham sandwich is huge and delicious. It is so thick with layers of ham, it is hard to open my mouth big enough to bite it. My husband got one of the cinnamon rolls and he said it was delicious. The inside is clean and the people were very nice. I highly recommend this place.

Well....I don't know where to start. Wonderful little store front. Very inviting and tidy! Welcomed with a *Hey* when we walked in the door. Beautiful cupcakes and sweet delights. We ordered lunch and had a Big Joey. When it came out, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! Thick sliced fried bologna with pimento cheese and bacon, grilled perfectly and served in a basket with barbeque chips. One of the best things I've eaten in awhile. I had to have one of the cinnamon rolls, which was reheated for me....oh my gosh...melted icing goodness! We will definitely remember the business when we ride back down next year!

There were few patrons in the restaurant and it took almost an hour to receive a basic sandwich. The pasta salad was putrid.

We stopped in on the recommendation of a local shop owner while we were visiting Bryson City, and I'm so glad we did. Being from the Tampa area, we're pretty picky about Cuban sandwiches. They're a staple back home, so our expectations were high. The owner happened to be there and confidently recommended the Cuban, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. There was a short wait while it was made fresh, but it was well worth it. The sandwich was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and honestly tasted like a little piece of home. We packed it up and enjoyed it before heading out for an afternoon of tubing, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The shop itself is charming, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere where you can sit down and enjoy your meal. We didn't try the sweets this time, but they looked delicious and give us another reason to come back. Meeting the owner made the experience even better. He was friendly, welcoming, and clearly takes pride in what he serves. Whether you're a fellow Floridian missing a great Cuban or you've never had one before, do yourself a favor and stop by High Test Deli & Sweet Shop. It's absolutely worth it. This is an easy 5-star recommendation, and we'll be back the next time we're in Bryson City.

It's not always easy to find a place that delivers good food, good service, and good value, but High Test Deli did all three. We would definitely stop by again the next time we're in the area.

When we entered the tiny dining room, we were greeted by walls covered with hand colored dollar bills. A warm fire was welcome on the chilly morning. The owners quickly seated us and took drink orders. The owner explained that they moved from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. All the food is prepared fresh by hand and authentic. I shared a Crab Cake Po'Boy with hubs. The sandwich was a daily feature and huge. Really huge. And delicious. My brother had the Oyster Po'Boy that I highly recommend. I tasted the large succulent, hand breaded oysters. This is the sandwich that makes you want to make the trip to Gatlinburg. My daughter and SIL had a half Muffalatta sandwich, which was huge and fresh packed with olives, meats, cheese and other good stuff. The kids shared a fish platter which came with a huge fried white fish and home fries. They actually ate their whole plate. The kid's meals are awesome. This is possibly the best cafe in Gatlinburg. The owners make you feel like family, the food is awesome and the dining room is interesting and cozy. We took the trolly into town so we didn't have to deal with parking. Parking is a bear downtown.
