I will continue with our tales of woe. So we were driving from Townsend Tennessee to Waynesville NC and we're really hungry. It's about 2:00 and when I looked at my Yelp App most restaurants were closing in 7 minutes. So we remembered going to Maggie Valley Restaurant and they were closing at 3:00. Only problem was they take only cash so we had about $35.00 on us. So. the twins (David and I) decided to share a delicious half chicken dinner that came with three sides. It was around $24 dollars. It was truly home cooked and delicious. We had mashed potatoes and gravy, cabbage and fried okra. So with tax and tip Dave had $4 left over lol! The help and servers are so friendly and I showed them pictures of when we were there last and they Freckles stay inside. So now guess where we are? At the Publix ATM machine! We shall return for some home cooking breakfasts this week! read more

We are staying about 30 minutes away for vacation and we decided to go check out Maggie Valley and while at a store we asked a local where to go for lunch. The lady stated that Maggie Valley restaurant has some of the best homemade cooking so we opted to go here. Top of their list was their famous homemade fried chicken. It wasn't famous or homemade, it was frozen and unseasoned. They only sell it as a half chicken dinner for $23-24 I can't remember exactly what the price but it was between that amount. No substitutions on the pieces so for that price I ate the wing and breast and left the leg and thigh on the plate. The macaroni and cheese were not good at all. The fried okra and mashed potatoes were pretty good. I got the last biscuit they had and while it had good flavor it was rock hard. My mom got the catfish dinner and she said it was okay, they brought her frozen solid cocktail sauce. The coleslaw she had to add some sugar to it but then said it was good. The other person got a club sandwich which was huge and he said it was okay, the bacon was really good. Sweet tea was delicious. Service was slow and robotic. Loved this place! All employees were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant gave a diner vibe and had some fun paintings on the windows. We stopped in during the mini truck nationals and snagged a window seat to watch the trucks cruise by. The food was delicious! I ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes, pinto beans and cornbread. The chicken was definitely the best part. Finger licking good! I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

I've lived in the area for over 10 years and this place use to be great. It's gone down hill. The staff is ok. Not super friendly, but not bad. I know there is busy places in Maggie Valley and we went to one and seen a line wrapped around a building and decided not to eat there and came here. And our we ever glad we did. Yes indeed! Sat down immediately. Ordered coffee and received it very quick. Ordered an omelette and my other half ordered pancakes. Both were great. Couldn't ask for better. Food was hot and delicious. Hardly any wait whatsoever. Very clean restaurant and polite and courteous staff. Never had to wait for anything. Looking for a place that you don't have to wait all morning to eat at, this is definitely the place. Also, there is a view in front of the window I was just mesmerized by looking at. I edited the buildings out of it. Still beautiful with the buildings though regardless. Happy Labor Day although we were here last weekend. It's still in the spirit. read more

The restaurant was clean, but the bench seating was falling apart. Service was friendly and fast. The food was just not great. It wasn't offensive, but for the prices they charge, it was not worth it at all. What a shame. This place has been here since 1952. Maybe they are skating on their reputation of old, or maybe they just need a good cook or two. Whatever the case, we won't likely go back again. Most offensive was the 3.2% surcharge for using a credit card. I can understand a 1% or 1.5%, but beyond that is just unacceptable. read more

First, the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. I ordered the trout with a side of grreens and blackeye peas. My wife ordered a baked potato. The trout was just OK at best, not good. The blackeye peas were delicious but lukewarm, not hot. The greens were just boiled greens, no seasoning, but were hot. My wifes baked potato was old and shriveled. There were no dessert offereings as we were told that the baker was piss-- off about something and would not bake today or tomorrrow either. The atmosphere was below average and the manager was aloof but the waitstaff was very friendly, but apologitic over the attitudes and lack of desserts. when we paid the bil it was just over $40.00 which was ridiculous. I have been in the hospitality business for 60, yes 60 years, and have some idea of how a restaurant should be run. In my professional opinipn, avoid this restaurant. read more

Ok ... so this is going to be a long one so stick with me. Granted we came on a whim for dinner on Valentine's Day so there's not a whole lot to be expected really as far as that goes, but I didn't expect there to be. First and foremost, the restaurant was freezing. Not much warmer than outside, but the bathroom was so damn hot we could barely stay in there long enough to pee. Secondly (and I was a cook at Waffle House for 3 years so I know how to cook some breakfast) the eggs were ... weird? Like I genuinely don't know how they cooked them. It's like they were hard fried and then chopped up (I ordered scrambled) but they were really thin and no caramelization on them - so ... not sure how they could have been fried. I don't know. Just weird. Grits were clumpy and runny. Sausage was so dry I couldn't eat it. My husbands tomato on his sandwich was completely flavorless. The potatoes were burnt. The pancakes were good... at least the top one ... I will give them that. But the worst part of all of this is that the poor girl (who was sweet as could be) who was our server was running around serving 12 tables of people while the two (I assume managers??) stood there not doing a damn thing to help her. The man sat there and ate and the woman stood there with her hands in her pockets looking like she had just smelled something rotten. Absolutely zero customer service from that end of things and letting your waitstaff sit in the weeds while you shove your face? It felt like we had walked into a world from the 1800s while a king and queen sat their eating while their servants were clearly killing themselves to keep the palace running Not a good look. On a last-minute decision, I stopped on my way back home. My go-to breakfast places were very crowded, so I visited the Maggie Valley Restaurant. The staff provided less than friendly service. None of them seemed like they wanted to be serving customers. My meal was okay. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, and coffee. Nothing to brag about. $20 was a little steep for breakfast. The food and service were very good. The prices are relatively high. I had the vegetable plate which consisted of 4 vegetables and one small corn muffin. It was $13.00 which works out to $3.25 each. In my humble opinion, that is too much for mashed potatoes and gravy, boiled cabbage, creamed corn and black-eyed peas. The portions were small as well. The restaurant has been around longer than I have. It is dated but clean. Perhaps, adding chicken, fish, pork or beef to a meal would make it easier to justify the cost. read more

Quaint local restaurant. There wasn't much of a line but front of the house was a bit lackadaisical about busing the empty tables. We could've been seated much more quickly than we were. The food was good to average. My husband and I each had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit with a side of grits and coffee. Everything came out promptly and hot. An observation: one section of the restaurant was cluttered with junk that could've accommodated 4 additional dining booths. Absolutely the worst tasting, low quality and over priced restaurant I've experienced in many years. Entree selections were few with obscene pricing, $24 for chicken and two vegetables. The vegetable servings were in small bowls, approximately three spoonfuls that tasted strait out of a can. I had $16 meatloaf that was heavy on filler and short on meat. Still amazed that a restaurant can screw up mashed potatoes but they managed it with ease with zero seasoning, salt or butter, simply boiled and served lumpy with some tasteless gravy probably made from a powder mix. The corn bread was dry and tasteless with the consistency of saw dust. Kraft macaroni from a box would have been an improvement over their macaroni and cheese that was elbow macaroni with a little velveeta mixed in, absolutely disgusting. I recall stoping here years ago and having a good experience, certainly no comparison now with over priced, barely edible food. The only redeeming feature was the friendly staff. I could feel my nose growing longer each time I was asked if everything was ok and I replied, good. read more

AC had to have been set on 55 & high fan speed-so cold we moved to a different booth & it was not any better. My husband's fish was undercooked & awful and my chicken tenders were maybe 1/2 inch x 2 inches & dry. Mac & cheese dry & chewy. Corn bread muffin & roll were in competition for the one most unfavorable & dry. Our waitress ignored our request for straws & we had to get up & look for utensils, which provided a view of a kitchen floor strewn with food & not looking very sanitary! We paid $40 and told cashier we would never be back. We travel annually to Maggie Valley & eaten here before when the food was good, staff friendly, & prices reasonable. Definitely do not serve breakfast all day anymore. We arrived for breakfast but I guess they were short staffed or something because people were leaving but tables weren't being cleaned. Lots of people gave up on waiting and left. That's after the confusion of being "put on the list" in the first place because it was literally a sheet of paper on the counter for you to write your own name on, but no one there to tell you that. By the time we were finally sat, we were given lunch menus instead which was kind of a disappointment after waiting so long. The food was good, just not what we expected or planned for. read more

Stopped in here by chance, wanting to do a little off-roading locally and it was excellent. Our waitress was so nice, friendly and attentive. Food arrived quickly and hot. Husband got the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans and said all were excellent. He loves fried chicken and said I t was some of the best he'd ever had. I got pecan pancakes (they serve breakfast all day) and it was delicious! Quaint and cute. Looking forward to returning when we do more off roading. read more

My friend and I were exploring the Great Smoky Mountains from Gatlinburg and headed east. We had just spent the day in Dollywood and tried the fried chicken there which was very disappointing. The chicken was dried out probably from over-preparation or just sitting out too long waiting to be ordered by customers. Our quest to find some really good fried chicken drove us east to Maggie Valley Restaurant. The chicken is made to order and worth the wait. It came with 2 sides in which I chose the green beans and collard greens. I'm from California so the veggies I'm accustomed to seeing at restaurants are typically bright and vibrant. I've come to realize that veggies in TN and NC get the hell cooked out of them, so you don't have to chew them because they are so soft already. It's ok if that's how it's done in these parts I still ate all of it and was happy. This place is locally run and seemed to have a steady stream of dinner patrons while we were there. Friendly staff and local hospitality vibe in the restaurant where it seemed like everyone knew everyone if you were a local. read more

Don't waste your time or money. Three of us went for lunch today. We have driven by this place several times but it looked busy so we figured it must be great. Totally wrong. The parking lot had plenty of cars but that was because the customers had been there forever waiting on their food. We were there for almost two hours waiting on 2 orders of Chicken tenders and a club sandwich. The club sandwich was the worst representation of such a sandwich I have ever seen. It was a triple decker with one piece of extra thin ham, one slice of extra thin turkey and a slice of tomato stuck between 3 layers of bread that had to be harder than dry Captain Crunch Cereal. We witnessed several groups (that were seated before us) never even get their food and walked out after being told several times "we are working on it!" With the really high prices, this place is a failure of a restaurant and only stays in business because of the tourism in the area. They know those folks won't be back. I would doubt they have any local customers that return on a regular basis. read more

Normally come here to eat while visiting the Maggie Valley area. They are short handed, short staffed, however you want to put it. Not too many places are open on a Sunday evening. We decided to go here & were all pleased with the good & service. The chairs are a little uncomfortable for someone with back issues, but overall a decent little family style restaurant. My husband & I both had the Philly cheese sandwich & it was good. The Mac & cheese was very good. My daughters had the chicken tenders & they were delicious. I then wished I'd gotten those!!
