The service was really great- Lexi was a delight and everyone else we encountered was kind and helpful. We were taken care of really well. We loved the look and feel of the restaurant (which has some really cool blue decor and windows from the former Greek restaurant there.) They had fun music playing that we enjoyed. There's a great view of the mountains from the restaurant and they have a great patio area too which would give you even better views! My husband and friends got the Crawfish pie appetizer and they all thought it was flavorful, yummy and had a flaky crust- they said it was the perfect appetizer. My husband got the seasonal Pecan Ale from Abita Brewing (from Louisiana of course) and thought it was delicious, drinkable, and just mildly nutty. He got the chicken andouille gumbo and described it as "zingy" and appreciated that the chicken in it was really tender which isn't always the case in gumbo. One of our friends got the shrimp and grits and said it had the perfect ratio of shrimp to grits and joked that most of the places you order this dish you get "shri and grits" because there is hardly any shrimp. ;) He said it was "on point". The presentation was really nice on this dish too. Our other friend got the shrimp étouffée and thought it had the perfect amount of heat. She was really sad because she accidentally spilled her leftovers when trying to package them up, and Lexi kindly gave her another small portion for her to take home even though it wasn't the restaurant's fault at all- such great service. I am a boring, picky eater so wasn't sure what to get, but found the popcorn chicken really tasty and I also really liked the side of red beans and rice! They don't use MSG in their cooking like many other cajun restaurants do. Everything was the perfect temperature and came out quickly and together. ((This is a restaurant where you order at the counter, by the way.) We got to share both desserts on the menu- the beignets were hot and delicious, and we had to fight for the small amount that was leftover of the praline bread pudding with rum sauce- whoa! I had really missed the Cajun flavors of NOLA since our trip there so I was itching for some delicious spice. The space was clean and the spacing between parties was great. You order at the counter and then they call for you to come grab your food from the counter. The ordering process was fairly painless but they were missing a drink menu. Of course, one of the most delicious pairings with the spice of Cajun food is the cool sweetness of the hurricanes. We ordered one of those, the red beans and rice, shrimp and grits, fried catfish, two hurricanes and then beignets. The hurricanes were a complete miss. The best part of the hurricane is the fruity sweetness, almost like a Hawaiian punch for grown-ups. This did not have sweetness at all. We stirred it to see if that helped and it was still lacking the hurricanes that we enjoyed so much at the various Bourbon Street haunts. Shrimp and grits was my absolute favorite thing in NOLA. I think I ate it once per day when we last visited. I have to say that the spicy tomato based broth that they added to the top of their's at Perriteaux's amplified it into the stratospere of excellence. The shrimp was tender, perfectly prepared, the grits were creamy but the broth is what kept me coming back for more. These to me, clinched anything that I had in NOLA or anything else that I tried during my visit. The catfish was not prepared with cornmeal and although the fish itself was well-prepared, it was not as crispy as we would have liked it to be. The red beans and rice were prepared with andouille and they were excellent. The spice and smokiness of the dish was a perfect marriage. We rounded out our meal with beignets and these were also extremely well prepared. They were pillowy, airy, fluffy, tender, melt-in-your-mouth, light, and crispy on the outside. They rivaled some of the best that we tried in NOLA. We might come back if we were hankering for a perfect shrimp and grits as well as to try some of the other offerings in the future.
