Needed a quick eat while on lunch break from Jury Duty. Saw this place is directly across from the Courthouse. Everyone started out nice... I was disappointed in the food, but more disappointed in their response. They asked me how my food was and I said I felt the carne asada was overcooked and tough and I could not eat it. Apparently that hurt some feelings. They took the plate back only to cut through the meat and BRING IT BACK OUT TO ME to show that it was cooked right and "according to health code". What?? They insisted on telling me they were right and I was wrong, and trying to ensure they had the last word. They were more interested in proving a point than trying to make things right. The cook even came outside as we were leaving to say something sarcastic. They told us they would take it off the check, but instead took half off my plate. Our waitress took the tacos off the bill so that says how it tasted but again i've been to places that wouldn't have taken it off the bill. Ive dined in many Mexican restaurants and this one is by far the most disappointing. The food was hardly edible. Green sauce enchiladas were the worse I've ever had . Rice was burned and inedible . This place is a vibe! The customer service and the music was A1. They had the old school music playing I needed the playlist bad lol. The chips and trip dip came out. I was pleased to see that the chips were homemade and very crunchy. The dips were pretty tasty and the combination of the three together were even better lol. They didn't have a burrito that didn't have any meat since they beans are made with meat I had to opt for the Cheese Enchiladas and rice. This is my second time trying this restaurant. I remember when this lunch place was packed on weekdays noon with customers. No more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The owners have spent a lot of money decorating the inside, and did a good job.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On the day we came at lunchtime, we were the only customers, and I know why. First, the floors are painted glossy black. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The floor was all tracked up with footprints in the common area and under every table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The outside temp was 12 degrees with snow yesterday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside temperature was 55 degrees and I'm glad I was dressed for the outside. Even the waitress was wearing an extra sweater.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Both times here, there was an off putting smell to the premise akin to that of rotting meat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Otherwise the place was clean and bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered chips and salsa ($4), and Patron Cadillac margaritas ($15 ea). The margaritas were great, even tho served in a bourbon rocks glass. We ordered our food, and waited. We had to remind the waitress to bring the chips, and she said she forgot. The chips she did bring were excellent, large and homemade and a lot of them. The salsa was homemade and good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The foreground music was a mix of old Mexican music, interspersed curiously with music from the rock band Haim. I don't get the Mexican correlation, and the volume was way loud for background music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our Carne Adovado fried burritos came out on too small a plate (see photo). It was impossible to eat the food without spilling out on the table. This restaurant serves fideo (thin spaghetti soaked in tomato sauce) rather than rice. The fideo could have been taken out of a can, as the noodles didn't taste fried. The refried beans were homemade, but, because it was so cold in the restaurant, all the food chilled rapidly, making it gloppy, and was then inedible. We had to remind our waitress to bring the sour cream we ordered, because she said she "forgot". The carne adovado was very spicy, but there was a good amount of pork chunks inside. The avocado/tomatillo sauce inside was okay. The "Christmas" sauce over the burrito was okay, but a little heavy on the cumin. A second identical margarita was ordered, but it was quite different from the first. I would expect that it would be identical, being made by the same person and all. Side waters were served in Mason jars with handles, just like in the sticks. As we were leaving, the waitress was sitting down behind the bar. Time to lean/clean must be a fantasy here. read more

He had tried this place before once for a work lunch and said he had to bring me to try. I'm so happy he did. Popped in for a bite while on a short visit to Colorado Springs. Walking distance from the Element hotel in downtown. Great recommendation from the front desk staff. We missed breakfast by a few minutes but they offered to add eggs/ potatoes to any lunch dish as a consolation. We settled on lunch. The service was very good/attentive. We had beef/bean/cheese burrito and it came with beans/rice. It wasn't Texas sized, but it was a generous serving. Combo plate with carne asada burrito and beef enchilada was very tasty. I even add additional diced green chile to mine for texture and more spice. Their chips and salsa?? I could fill up on that alone. Their Spanish rice is mind blowing. I'm used to super dry rice that you have to mix with beans to make it palatable. Nah. I could also eat a whole plate of just the rice... Their staff is quick, knowledgeable and friendly.
