Unfortunately, they were out of chicken, calamari, collard greens, waffles, and a few other things which was about half of the menu. I ended up with the shrimp platter (8 shrimp and choice of fries or Mac & cheese) for $15. Not a bad price. I asked the man which one (Mac and cheese or fries) that people preferred and he dryly responded, "I can't eat Mac and cheese". They didn't have tartar or cocktail sauce; instead it was a Cajun sauce that I would say was mayo, cayenne, creole seasoning and maybe a bit of ketchup. Pretty good. My first experience was a month after they opened. I was pleasantly surprised by the gluten free options. I was disappointed by the French fries (which in my opinion are difficult to screw up). The food took forever to come out and the service was slow. I have since gone back and tried again and the food was much better (fries were perfect). Working in Colorado Springs and saw Luchal's had a good rating and was close to our hotel. It didn't disappoint! My coworker had the fish and chicken special with veggie greens. She enjoyed it, especially the greens. I had the 6 piece chicken with fries. My wings were very tasty. I ordered the sweet and spicy sauce and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't too spicy though, so you'll need pepper flakes to kick it up. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about the food. And the location was nice. It looks like it's located in a food mall with several other restaurants and a bar. You have to purchase your drinks separate at the bar. I've been hearing buzz about this restaurant since I moved here so I was really looking forward to giving them a try. I was looking for a place to get fried catfish and sides that would knock my socks off, unfortunately, that didn't happen this time. I ordered the catfish platter with Mac and cheese. I was very disappointed when I opened the container to find, one (yes just one) piece of catfish and a bowl of Mac and cheese all for $22. I started checking frantically in the bag thinking the rest of the food must have fallen out, and was saddened to realize that was the entire meal. The catfish was soggy and limp and the Mac and cheese was dry. This was not worth $22, I really was rooting for this restaurant to come through with a solid catfish meal, but that wasn't the case. Their Brussel sprouts were perfectly fried with great texture; wish they were a bit more gentle on the seasoning as it got very salty on the bottom of the plate. We devoured the shrimp almost immediately and probably would have eaten the plate too if the portions weren't so generous. The shrimp comes with a sauce choice and our cashier recommended the hot honey or the garlic aioli. The garlic aioli was also amazing and paired perfectly with the shrimp. Saw the good reviews, had high hopes. Not a southern gal, but definitely a foodie. Got the fried catfish (market price so you have to ask for the price) and the turkey collard greens. Wasn't cheap, but I don't think anything in COATI is. A friend also ordered the catfish and we were both very unimpressed, I only finished mine because I was hungry and it was pricey. The catfish was not particularly tender and strong fish taste (I know this can be the case for catfish, and I am a fish lover but this was A LOT, too much TBH), and it only came with the smallest lemon wedge to try to mask the taste. Fortunately there's sauce on the side so I just drowned it in sauce. The collard greens basically came in a soup bowl came drowning in sauce but I'm not mad about it, they were actually delish (a tad salty though). Perhaps not "traditional" but I enjoyed them. This place is amazing! We are visiting from California and wanted to support local Black owned businesses. We did our research and made a list of places to visit this was @1 on our list! We arrived here after leaving the airport before we even went to our hotel to check in. We ordered the 3-way 2 chicken and waffles meals and 1 shrimp and grits! There was only one person there she was literally a one man band. She took the orders made the food plated the food and sent a text letting us know our food was ready! We took the food to go. We checked into our hotel and as soon as we got to the room we started eating!. The food was so good! The next day we took a road trip to the Great Sand dunes. When we got back I had to stop there again and order the 2x2 which is a small crab fries and a small Cajun shrimp fries. It did not disappoint! Yikes.. dousing every edible thing in Cajun seasoning doesn't make it southern/soul food. Food: We were super excited to try this place, but we must've gotten there at the end of a delivery period or something cause they were out of a lot of stuff. We ended up getting the fried snapper triple threat with fried shrimp, soy garlic wings & crab fries. The wings were a little small and on the dry side, but the flavor was prettttty good. Snapper was way too salty, tough and rubbery. The shrimps weren't crunchy, but was juicy on the inside - again, way too salty and over seasoned like the snapper. The crab fries is were I'm the most disappointed. It's as if these fries were soaking in a Cajun powder & salt bath for a day, thrown into a microwave, topped off with 1 tablespoon of crab meat, smothered with Kraft's parmesan cheese, then served with a $15 price tag. Everything tasted the exact same, besides the wings. Service: We waited 40 minutes for our food and there was only one order ahead of us. I wasn't greeted when I got to the register, the guy with the beard just came to the register and stared at me. My meal was okay but the only thing I really liked was the catfish. The greens taste like sweet bbq sauce, can't taste the turkey meat at all/wayyyyy too much garlic and the grits were overpowered by the garnish which I believe was parsley.
