She liked her tuna melt. The place could go have done with done sprucing up. The ceiling tiles- some were stained and it didn't look good. The ladies room was not clean. I'm not talking about tissue on the floor- the tile floors looked like they had years of accumulated dirt in them, especially in the corners. I was here by myself. I was exhausted. My server was very pleasant. She was honest. So the crab cakes are homemade. A mix of real and imitation crab. The veal parmigiana had average flavor. And the garlic bread was a hotdog roll with seasoning. Prices over all matched the overall quality. I sat at the counter today. The one waitress that used her finger on things was extremely disturbing. Yes she was the only one. And I was board so it easy to watch her. Except for her I had a decent visit. Nothing great . I had a Chicken Southwest Salad and it was amazing!!! The wateriness was very nice and that girl put in the work with how busy it was (the majority of the rush was over when I finished). What I think is unique about this place is you have three areas: the dining room, the bar, and then you have a pub like area in the back (I was in the dining room which was beautiful). My fiancé and I ha e been coming here somewhat regularly for the past 4+ years. The service has always been good from t Thehe wait staff and front end staff (hostess /cashier) the food in the past as been good as well. We have had to mention about the heat in the dining room are in the past and it never seemed to change but we have put up with it in the past until this evening. We came out for dinner tonight as my fiancé has been getting over from being sick. I ordered a dinner i have had in the past with cream of potato soup. She ordered a Greek lasagna dish that sounded appetizing after looking it up. When I got my soup, our waitress almost immediately started apologizing as it was soo thin and runny that I immediately thought it was chicken noodle soup (the other soup for the day) She mentioned they have a new prep cook and knew it was runny. I took the soup and while not the best taste, it wasn't bad so I ate this soup. When our dinners arrived, my fiancé's meal was very dry with very little flavor. When we googled the item, on of the main ingredients should have been a red meat sauce. Instead, there was only greasy ground beef where there should of had red sauce. The food issues here in conjunction with the extreme temps in the dining room have caused us to feel we will no longer be going to this establishment again as the experience is just not enjoyable at all. If the owner would do better at controlling the dining room temps to a much better level for the general publications if the food improves, we may think about going back but not u till these things would happen. read more

Three days of driving and finding places along the way to eat. We like diners generally speaking. Solid, home style fare. This diner is close to the highway, has plenty of parking, is a bit worn looking on the outside, but it was hoppin' inside. Wait to be seated. Our waitress brought over waters and we had time to look over the menu and knew what we wanted. Two burgers later we were full and ready to get back on the road. Service was quick and friendly and they kept our waters filled. On my way out of the restaurant, as I approached a table, the guest seated there was absolutely staring at me. Weird. Didn't think too much about it, but just as I passed his seat, he asked his waitress "what are they famous for?". OK, more weird. But the waitresses answer has me in stitches: "Stripper." What now? I have no idea WHO they thought I was, and I don't know if that is a compliment or an insult. But this retiree mom from Little Rhody wants to make it perfectly clear that I am most definitely not, and never have been, a stripper. The Front Street Diner is a solid, basic spot on the northern reaches of Harrisburg--might actually be Susquehanna Township. The menu features a variety of usual diner fare including breakfast all day. I had a Western Omelette during my recent visit which was decent but unremarkable. Interestingly, several of their specials have a distinctly Jewish influence you don't usually see in a South Central PA diner: Lox Benedict, cheese blintzes, and matzo ball soup to hame a few. See photos for additional examples. Service was fast and friendly and the interior is huge, with a small counter in addition to the table and booth seating. It has all of the look and feel of a conventional diner, but has the food and service of a that has elements of something more boutique--none of that stale diner coffee. After driving by the Front Street Diner every day for years, we finally decided to give it a try for breakfast on a Sunday morning and we were very happy with our visit! While the outside looks a bit weathered, the inside is clean, spacious, and has a welcoming atmosphere. The employees helped contribute to this welcoming vibe due to their friendly nature. We were treated like regulars even though this was our first time. The menu has a nice variety of breakfast offerings and specials all reasonably priced. We were hungry for pancakes, so we went with the Front Street Special: 2 eggs, bacon, and 2 buttermilk pancakes. I added a side of homefries and washed everything down with a carafe of coffee. The food was very good with the pancakes cooked just right to satisfy my cravings. Service was prompt and everything was hot. I was driving by and LOVE visiting local diners while I travel. I stopped in and it was busy, so I took a seat at the bar. I met a submarine veteran who made the visit very enjoyable. The waitress came by quickly and took my order. She was a senior citizen like me and very friendly and efficient. My food came very quickly and was hot, aromatic and flavorful. Ok we've returned! Must say this place does impress. Nice size portions and the quality of the food is good & it's served hot! My wife heard their crab cakes were delicious so she decided to try them with a baked potato and some coke slaw. The only negative she said was she didn't care for their tartar sauce! Everything else was tasty. She even shared a piece with me. The crab cake does contain a little filler which is norm since it was deep fried still had a lot of crab in it and it was tasty! I had the Butterflied Shrimp and some fries! It was a great meal for the price! FYI I had coffee with my meal and the coffee was hot and good! I've been going here on and off for years. Mainly on Sunday's because Mr. deli is closed on Sundays. Most of the weight staff is wonderful here, but today I got the worst waitress that they have and this woman can't remember anything and just doesn't provide good service. Example would be getting your coffee or water refilled within a 15 minute period and having to ask three times for creamer. I ended up getting the cream myself. Last time I was here about a month ago there was hair in my food, and they still expected me to pay for the meal. I told the owner that if I paid for it, I would never be back so he took the bill and just threw it away. Today when the hostess checking me out, ask how everything was. I told her that the dollar tip that I left for my waitress was being generous because she provides horrible service. Her answer was "you complain every time you show up here I said well then I just won't come back and she said that's fine with us." So looking back, you serve food that is subpar meaning their eggs have gotten smaller their Sandwiches have become quite small. And why ask me how everything was if you really don't care about it. My advice to you is did not go here. There are other choices across the river in route 15 Lake Yankee doodle that serve a nice meal and don't give you this kind of treatment. read more

This place has seen brighter days. It is tired, beat up, and a bit dirty. The menu had no gluten-free options listed. I asked the waitress to confirm and she said that they don't list anything. I ended up with a chef salad. The chef salad was ample; it included a good variety of sliced sandwich meats and cheeses, a halved hard boiled egg, black olives, with slices of tomato, green peppers, and cucumbers on a bed of mixed greens. There were several dressings to chose from. I received about 1/2 cup (my choice was 1,000 island) and it was served on the side. The service was fine, although there were several waitstaff who wore their masks below their noses. Our waitress was not one of them, and was professional and courteous. It is a very clean, spacious and friendly restaurant. My waitress, Carol, was warm and friendly and made me feel right at home. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely come back. One thing to note is that the restaurant closes at 9 on Saturdays and the grill shuts down at 8:30. Yelp lists 10pm as the closing time for Saturdays. read more

It was dreadful; flavorless gravy atop a waffle which tasted like it would have been made from sour milk. Server was attentive but, unfortunately, she could not make an impression great enough to overcome the unclean atmosphere or the stomach distress from that meal. We came here as we were passing through town on Memorial Day and most restaurants were closed. This place was OK. Decent prices and edible food. Nothing fancy, I had their deluxe burger, meaning it came with fries and a dollop of coleslaw. The bun was dry/stale. It crumbled and I had to finish the almost tasteless sandwich with a knife and fork. On the plus side was the staff. They were friendly. On the minus side was the staff. Even though there are COVID restrictions still in effect they were OK with either not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly. That kind of behavior makes me wonder how they treat other health and safety regulations. If you looked closely it was obvious they did not spend a lot of time cleaning. The blinds were covered in a layer of filth, the air vents in the rest rooms were caked with mold, and there was debris all over their threadbare carpeting. Next time we're in town we will eat elsewhere and if it's Memorial Day we'll opt for skipping a meal. read more

The menu is pretty standard diner fare with a few Greek options sprinkled in. The portions are generous. I will say the salads leave a bit to be desired - lots of bland iceberg lettuce and few homemade dressing options. Last time we went I got one of their three egg omlettes (the House Omelette) which featured feta cheese, olives and spinach. I got applesauce instead of the hash browns/potatoes that typically come with their breakfast options. Everything was very good! The other members of my party enjoyed their options as well. Our server was very friendly and helpful as this was our first time. It's an older restaurant, but every thing seemed well maintained. They have some of the stools pulled for social distancing. My husband ordered the haddock sandwich which had a generous portion of fish. I ordered the Greek salad and spinach pie. My spinach pie was huge! In my many trips to Harrisburg, I have not eaten much on the other side of the river. Finally, I was able to, starting small at least. When I walked in I quickly noted the railroad themed ambience, in large part due to the diner being in close proximity to Harrisburg and Enola yards. It is also a favorite for the train crews to stop in before or after their shift to get a quick bite to eat. Anyway, I ate here with a friend and got a Monte Cristo sandwich, he got the pot roast. In general, the food is good for the price you pay. Just *good*. You get what you pay for here. It did not blow me away, but there was plenty of meat and cheese in the sandwich and the French toast had good taste. My friend liked his pot roast but they were lackluster in their service. I too felt it was a letdown in that they seemed out of it when we made the wait staff do their jobs. I would come back but with caution. read more

Yup 2 stars one for the pleasant waitress that served us and one for the coffee carafe that is left on the table but that's about it, my western omelette had tough ham pieces that were inedible and don't get onions on your home fries because that's all you'll get is onions couldn't find many potatoes. My wife's doctors omelette was floating in grease and tasted terrible. We gave this a try because it was close to where we were staying but there are far to many breakfast spots to waste your money here on breakfast that you can prepare better at home !! It makes me think of how diners must have been in the 1950s during their heyday. The food was very reasonably priced and you get A LOT. The service was great, and the place was clean. I had the cheeseburger, fries, and soup. It was all top notch. To be honest I had trouble finishing all of it because it was so much food (which doesn't usually happen to me). Stopped here for lunch with my hubs looking for a sandwich. I ordered a pastrami sandwich that was listed as a special. It was literally rye bread with pastrami on it. No cheese. No mustard. It came with fries and a cup of soup. It's not that it was bad, it was just a little sparse compared to the plates that I was seeing delivered to other tables. My husband had a patty melt. His was tasty but again, the plate looked pretty sparse. This place was wall-to-wall senior citizens, which tells me it's a good bargain.
