I cannot state how EXCELLENT Frontier Dermatology (Mercer Island) is ! I have had excellent facials from Sheila Librizzi - and this last week (mid August) she SAVED me BIG TIME. I had been pulling 'the deadly vine leaf' off our evergreens and without thinking had been wiping the sweat off my face w/ my gloved hand. By early evening my face was in a major crisis with an allergic reaction. I quickly made appt for the next day - and Sheila literally calmed my poor peeling skin! By far one of the worst medical experiences. It takes a long time to get into a dermatologist and she had the soonest opening so I scheduled. I waited patiently, seeking relief for a severe allergic rash that was causing pain. I had already been to the regular doctor 4 times, but they said I needed a dermatologist. I got to this clinic and I was rushed in and out within 10 minutes. I didn't even have time to fill out all the paperwork they gave me. Jennifer asked me one question and just "knew" what was wrong. She did a biopsy and sent me on my way. Weeks went by with no word. I ended up having to call the Frontier help center to get my results and it wasn't until I called them that they said the test didn't show anything. Jennifer wrote in my medical profile that I am allergic to my medication and when I saw her she recommended I stop taking it. Turns out it had nothing to do with that and I could have had WAY more complications and pain if I had followed her direction. I would never recommend her to anyone. There is a reason she had availability so soon. read more

I want to counteract the bad reviews because I was so frustrated last year and the year before being put on hold and dealing with their horrific phone implementation. However - they have now fixed it and when you call the number you actually get a human at the front desk. They also have a wonderful new doctor, Katrina Spaunhurst MD, FAAD who has recently treated both my girls and is thoughtful, prescriptive, and very results oriented. We absolutely love her. So don't let these bad reviews deter you - the service has gotten a lot better in 2024 and now that the transformation to Frontier is complete, they actually pick up the phone. :-) read more

My daughter was suppose to get wart removed- very simple. We were 10 mins late (she was at recess and the office was having difficulty getting her- alas, NO flexibility at the office). In fact, they liked to remind me that I cannot see the Dr at all, and that I can pay $75. No parents of children should consider this place. Complete disappointment. Thankfully we are going to her Pediatrician tomorrow- vs waiting 2 weeks to try to see this place. read more

I have been a patient here for over 5 years. The first 4 or so years were great, excellent service and skilled physicians and nurses. However, in the last year (mid 2021 - mid 2022), there has been a huge decline in the front office service. It's not that the staff is rude... you simply won't be able to get a hold of a human when you call...ever. You will be on hold for 20mins at least and then be prompted to leave a message with a guarantee of a callback within 24 hours. But no one will call you back. You can try contacting them via the website, but that won't work either. Total radio silence. I have a prescription from the office that I've been trying to get refilled for over a week now. I can't reach them and neither can my pharmacy. I now have to go on a trip out of town without my medicine and need to now find a reliable dermatologist once I'm back. So I'll be out of meds for at least 2 weeks. You definitely don't want to be relying on this office if you have a serious need for a refill. I'm not sure the doctors running the office realize their front office staff is destroying their business. Steer well clear of this place if you value your time and sanity. read more

I went to Island Dermatology after having a strange skin condition for over a month. I had already seen my general practioner who had another doctor take a look at it and tell me there was nothing they could do because they didn't know what it was. I had an ultrasound done in it to rule out any vascular conditions and with that ruled out the technician asked the resident doctor to take a look at it and he, too, was clueless. He suggested I see a dermatologist, but he couldn't recommend any and warned that a good derm doctor was hard to find. I decided to go to Island Dermatology because of a trusted personal recommendation. Dr. Hayes took a look at it and also did not know what it was, but instead of just dismissing me as my GP had done, he requested that he have Dr. Baron look at it. Minutes later Dr. Baron looked at it and he knew instantly what it was. He was able to identify my medical mystery, tell me what I needed to do, and set realistic expectations. I was relieved and elated. I found both Dr. Baron and Dr. Hayes to be fantastic doctors. read more

To anyone looking for acne surgery: don't get it here. Don't get me wrong, the esthetician here is nice and does a fine job. The problem is the billing situation. I was told that my insurance would cover my acne surgery for sure, lo and behold the $200 bill I received a couple months later. I understand now that billing through insurance isn't always transparent but the person at the front desk certainly made it out to be that way. It feels as though they were just trying to entice me to make appointments by assuring me it was covered fully when they had no way of knowing for sure. If you need acne surgery, you might as well go to a licensed esthetician outside of the office. Here, it's more than a hundred dollars for what amounts to being twenty minutes of extractions. Other reviewers on here have noted the same thing, clearly this is a problem. The lack of transparency is ridiculous. I should've received a paper estimation of the cost just like any medical office does with insurance. I can't say I'm surprised to see other people complaining about this as well. read more

We arrived 10 minutes late for our appointment. I even called and told them that we were stuck in traffic. When I got in the exam room with my son the medical assistant who came in before the dr told us that we had to pick two things out of the three issues we had come about because we had missed our entire appointment. The dr entered and would only discuss two of our reasons for coming. She was very abrupt. We traveled over an hour to get there and were told to make another appointment and come back another day to discuss the third issue. We were in with the dr less than five minutes. What a disappointment. I'll never make that trip again. read more

This place has extremely frustrating customer service. Whenever I call I am put on hold for 20-30 minutes to just continuously get transferred to multiple departments to further be put on hold. When I ask to change my medication due to an allergy, I am told to make an appointment. A simple medication change should not require an appointment when no changes to skin condition have been made. I then was abruptly hung up on by the medical assistants multiple times. Overall, poor communication and lack of interest in their customers well being. read more

I have been to this office several times for facials as well as dermatology services. I am really disappointed to have to post this review. I am tired of being shorted on expensive facials. I am not a Bellevue 'tended' housewife with funds - I work and paying so much for facials that are not what I paid for is really irritating. I scheduled a 45 minutes facial, and she was done in 30 - when she brought me up to the front, even the receptionist asked 30 or 45 min. While walking away, the facialist says 45 over her back and disappeared. Ugh! The following month I had another - which was an $85 dollar treatment for 20 MINUTES!! I really deserve better and I don't want to be put in a situation that I have to argue on the spot with someone that should just do their customers/patients right. Everything is bad. Doctor and the representative are extremely lazy and without merits. They don't care about the patients, they only will smile and charge you. Take my personal experience as example, I need one medicine immediately, they delay it for three weeks before the medicine is on my hand. That's fucking too late. Get ready to be swindled. The esthetician suggested a service (BBL) to me to get rid of extensive sun damage. I was told I was the "perfect candidate" and would get great results. It was suggested that I do one treatment now and one after summer to get the best results. Treatments are one for $350 or 3 for $1000 so since it came so highly recommended to me I did the 3 for $1000. Neither doctor saw me for a consult, nor the Physician's Assistant. Only the esthetician. Numbing cream was not left on long enough so it was incredibly painful, my face was hot pink and swollen for the rest of the day and worse - there was no result. Nothing happened. I called to report this and was asked to come in so they could see. I live in North Seattle and this is on the north end of the Island so it's very inconvenient. Sure enough - they said there'd been no change and said they'd try again for free. I hesitantly agreed and communicated concern about the pain, the redness and swelling and was assured this 2nd try would be worth it. Note: They didn't say the pain, redness or swelling was unusual - just that it "would be worth it". They tried again - my 4th drive to the office - and still nothing. I went back in yet again - 5th time - after the 2nd process for a consult. After comparing the pictures they'd taken, sure enough, I was told I should have seen more results and it just seems to not be working on me. I insisted on being refunded for the prepayment of the other 2 treatments and they had the nerve to offer office credit instead. I insisted on a refund and was told it'd be 15-30 days to refund it (3-5 I can understand, but 15-30?). I asked if I could be refunded for a portion of the first treatment since it so obviously didn't work - I'm being told no. I've requested to talk to the doctor about this but since he never saw me any of the FIVE TIMES I was in the office, I'm not sure he would understand how ridiculous this is. Dr. Baron is rarely in the office - notice how the other Yelpers saw other doctors - one saw Dr. Baron AFTER the fact - and his staff is selling expensive products under his name. It's horrible practice for a medical office and I refuse to be quiet about such a bad experience. read more

I received a voice mail message from the medical assistant advising that it is "not our job to contact insurance providers." I was finally able to reach someone at my insurance company willing to fax the authorization to the doctor's office. The next day I received a call from the medical assistant advising my insurance company had approved the prescription. Although my problem has been resolved, I am hesitant to recommend this provider due to the lack of simple customer service. read more

This place is unbelievable. I call to make an appointment and the gentleman I speak to is reassuring that he can get me in no problem. I explain to him that I am driving all the way from Puyallup because I can't find someone to see me here before Jan. He is understanding makes my appointment for Tuesday Dec 22 at 9:45 am. He takes all my PPI (to include my name, DOB, Insurance etc). Says I'm confirmed and see you on Tuesday Dec 22. Today I wake up and call to verify what the process is for check in due to Covid changes and speak with Brooke who informs me I'm not in the system. As in she can't find me at all. She transfers me to the gentleman who then tells me he has no idea what happened. So what did he do with all my information? Who knows, your guess is as good as mine. Then he says please hold I'm going to see if we can squeeze you in and then comes back and says oh I'm so sorry we have surgeries all day. Like are you kidding me? I had to make plans for someone to watch my kids, had to wake them up early, and if I hadn't called I would have showed up to no appointment. This is very well managed dermatologist clinic. Other than the quality of the service, the bed side manner and professionalism mentioned by other reviewers, I would like to pinpoint two properties that haven't been described in details. The first one is leadership, the second one is pricing. Leadership means differently for each profession. For the President of the country, leadership means making the best decisions for the people based on his intelligence and knowledge, sometime the President needs to do so against the tide. For a physician, leadership means making the best decisions for the patient, sometime, it means disagreeing with the patient based on the physicians' expertise and diagnosis. When the evidences develop, the physician will re-evaluate the options accordingly and make adjustments. It requires tremendous amount of intellectual power, dedicated studies/practices across decades and a kind heart to be a great physician. It is not common. Although on Yelp, this clinic is marked as four $ which means ultra pricey, I actually find they are reasonably priced in healthcare market. All the charges I received have clearly defined purposes. Based on my experience, I think if you have suspicious skin conditions, Island Dermatology is the best place for you to get clear diagnosis, thorough treatments and even general advices. read more

Very recently, one of the doctor-partners of Island Dermatology personally called me to express apology on behalf of their office about the misplaced plan and gave an extensive phone consultation about options I can take with my "beauty" mark. They scarred my face in two places and when I asked to have them see if they could fix it, I was charged $200 for a 10m consultation that pretty much was a pitch to spend more money to fix it. If you mess up and scar someone face for life you would think they could check it out for free. When I asked for it to be comped they graciously sent me to collection. I have been visiting this clinic for almost 10 years. Medically speaking I have found them to be a competent provider. My issues are with the office staff and are identical to the other negative reviews on this site. They are marginally rude, unfriendly and most certainly incompetent. I recently spent some intensely unpleasant moments on the phone trying to work out an outrageous penalty on a five dollar(!) bill that had originated because they had incorrectly computed my copay. The fact that this trivial bill was the result of their mistake provoked only irritation on the part of the woman on the phone. I visited the clinic several times while the bill was outstanding(and forgotten) on my part and they never once told me that I had an unpaid balance. The bottom line: the physicians are competent but the staff need a major attitude adjustment. read more

With so many choices of professional dermatologist services in Bellevue & Mercer Island- do not choose this one! My daughter saw Jennifer for teenage acne. It was an ok visit with some good suggestions on how to proceed but I was shocked when I received a statement from my insurance company. I was being billed for an office visit and acne surgery. Since Jennifer Hall only talked to us about treatment options and did not touch my daughter's face, I was very confused by this extra billing. I called their billing office and was informed that they had made a mistake and entered an incorrect billing code. Really?? Why would I ever visit your office again?! read more

I have been coming here since August of 2016, and I really like the facility and staff. First, I will say that I am impressed with the office itself. It's nice! I like that they showcase a lot of cosmetic services offered. I am used to the traditional doctors office feel and I much prefer their office. It feels more like a spa or such. Also there's plenty of parking right out front. And I typically schedule my appt right after lunch, so I have never had to wait or anything. In and out very quickly. I really like Dr. Bergstrom's bedside manner, and she is great at providing information and breaking down treatment options. The front office staff have been equally as friendly. The main negative is that it's pretty far from my home in Ballard (about 45 minute drive each way), but it's easy to get an appointment and beats the 3-4 month wait time to see a dermatology with GH (Dr Bergstrom is a contracted provider though). If this office is close to you or you can swing the drive time, I definitely recommend them. I have had a very positive experience. read more

This is a very nice practice, but I don't think this doctor is as good at injecting filler as most of the others I've been to. I've been going to dermatologists for years, and she is the only one that actually made my marionette lines more pronounced. 700.00 for worse grooves (luckily it wasn't permanent). No thank you on that again! I will say the Botox performed by someone else there was done correctly and I wish that person were still there or I'd be coming there all the time. I since have not found anyone as good at getting the eyebrow lift as she could achieve! read more

Both my sister and I have been here, and we have loved our dermatologists, who are experienced and knowledgeable. Dr Strothers is who I saw and He helped me alot with...the many skin disorders i fight- cystic acne, keratosis pilaris, ingrown hairs....ughh I do manage all of these disorder to negligible with his help. They have a full spa too with trained nurses and esthetionists(i have no idea how to spell that). And they work with several insurance companies! yay read more

After over five years of struggling with a difficult skin condition, I was referred here by my primary doctor. Right away the PA recognized my condition and proposed a treatment to help improve things--just to have hope after five years of non-stop hiding wounds and scars was huge! She provided some in office care and prescribed something new to help reduce the inflammation. PA Del Secco was knowledgeable, personable, professional and great at explaining both my condition and how we were going to get it under control. Dr. Bergstrom is great. That's not my problem with Island Dermatology. My problem is when I called in to make an appointment, I asked "do you take _____ Insurance." They said yes. Me not being the insurance expert assumed that this meant they are an in-network provider. Well, a few weeks later I get a bill for WAY more than I was expecting, even after paying my $30 copay. I was expecting only 20-25% coinsurance. Nope. I called my insurance company, they say they are out of network. I call the reception, they said yes they take _____Insurance, but they are not in network, and that it's my responsibility to understand that beforehand. I believe in taking personal responsibility, and I typically live by that, but I really felt like I was deceived here and now I'm paying for it...literally. They should be more upfront about in vs. out of network. C'mon guys. read more

I would give this place more stars for the doctors there. They are great, they know a lot and I have even gotten a few great facials there and those ladies were also great. The reason I am taking away 2 stars is the customer service of their receptionist's. They are SO snotty and make you feel like you are wasting their time and they have better things to do. Whether it is making an appt, checking-in for the appt or asking questions about billing they just do not treat paying patients very well at all. Island Dermatology was great when Dr. Frank Baron owned and practiced there. I was a patient of his for 30 years. He's been retired for many years and sold the practice in 2019. I've been back often, but never met the new owner. My experience recently was with Jennifer Hall PA-C and although she's done some procedures previously without any problems, a surgical removal of a Basal Cell from the back of my hand was not sutured properly and the stitches pulled apart, leaving a gaping hole to heal. When the assistant removed the stitches, she commented that they'd "pulled" and said, "Oh well". When I realized later the extent of the wound and the possibility of infection I called and asked to speak with Jennifer. She refused to consult with me and left it to her assistant, Shatae, to tell me to, basically, buck up old man, it's not infected yet, just keep putting vaseline and bandages on it until it heals. The total lack of due diligence and empathy was shocking. I've never written a Yelp review before, but this experience pushed me over the edge. John Larsen read more

This review is in response to Becky H's review from June 2011. I guess it is possible that different people have different results from the BBL (Broad Band Light ) treatment. I just had my second BBL in a year's period of time, done by Dr Baron. Both times I had terrific results. Brown spots siignicficantly reduced and my skin looks glowing only a week after the procedure. I would call it only mildly uncomfortable. If you have ever plucked a hair from your face, that is what it feels like. I had my BBL done on Thursday. Today is Monday and when I went to the MAC cosmetics counter today to buy an eye pencil, the sales person immediately commented on my skin and how clear and glowing it looked and asked what I was using. I feel like the results I got from BBLwere a bargain for the few hundred dollars it costs once a year (or how ever often you decide to do this) Now I also get my Botox done by Dr Baron. I have had my Botox done for the past ten years by several different practitioners. Dr Baron knows the right amount and correct placement to give you the results you are asking for. I feel his product is always fresh and gives me great results. read more

I didn't see any need to change or add anything for the purpose of this review: Comments: Hi, I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my recent course of treatment by Catherine Del Secco. I came in for lesions on my lower legs and thought it was an allergy or skin rash or something simple. I really had no idea as to the scope of the field of dermatology until my recent visit(s). Using blood testing and a skin biopsy to rule out anything truly nasty, Catherine suggested that the lesions were caused by a recent change in my blood pressure medication, something that three of my doctors had failed to spot (no pun intended). I stopped the offending medication and the lesions started to fade almost immediately. I was very relieved that the cause turned out to be such a simple thing, and that the lesions were so easily and thoroughly reversible. Thanks Catherine, you are my favorite dermatologist! read more

Great place with great staff! I have been several times to see PA Hall. She is great with the care of treatments she provides. Very quick with the Botox sessions with the results I wanted.
