Never used the bathroom and found empty soap, paper towels. Always reasonably clean and stocked. It was an excellent weekend for us all. Will absolutely be back!

I setup during the day, and couldn't see the road through the trees. But at night, the noise from trucks is deafening. We were up most of the night. When I walked into the office the next day and told him my site number, the girl smiled and said let me guess you wanna switch sites ? So they know it's an issue. If you have just a tent, you shouldn't be placed there. I didn't notice that they squeezed quite a lot of people in other questionable spots, and I'm talking like 2 feet from the service road. So all night cars coming in and out of the back of the campground are driving right past people's tents, and again I mean like within 5 feet of a tent. Besides being a poor layout, that's just plain dangerous. So if you're going to go here, my advice is to pull up the site map, and make sure your spot is away for 995 and the service road ahead of time. The bathroom and showers were clean, but they're old so it's kind of grimy. Their playground looks good. They also have a big bouncy thing. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again unless I had a RV.

We had such a good time over 2024 Memorial Day weekend, we extended our trip an extra week - totaling 14 days. We stayed in the 600 loop of Legiontown between two different sites- one for our original 1 week stay, and another for our added 1 week stay. The Reserve America website was very easy to navigate and pre check in. We could have also gone to the ranger station at the entrance to the park to book our additional week. As some other reviews have mentioned, some of the sites are very close together and/or in the middle of a field with little to no shade or privacy. Thankfully, most (if not all) of the hundreds of sites at this campground are well documented on YouTube so you can check it out before you go. That, and there's a picture of the site on the Reserve America website. The bathhouse facilities are indeed rustic! Four stalls and three showers on the ladies' side with septic tissue and plastic shower curtains. The facilities were always clean and well stocked - albeit sometimes had wet floors. Other reviews have mentioned long lines to use the facilities, but that was not my experience. I'm sure 4th of July weekend and other peak times would have a wait for a shower. I also feel the need to defend the campground from some of the negative reviews on here: this is a STATE PARK campground. Complete with ants, mosquitos, and ticks. This campground is funded by the STATE OF RHODE ISLAND and not privately held/ for profit like a KOA. There are no RV hookups at the individual sites! You can't run your generator after 8pm and you can't party well into the night either! If you are looking for a sterile campground smelling like DEET and bleach, may I recommend one of the many trailer parks that can be found in the area. Any complaints about the lack of facilities should be brought to your state rep and/or senator so that they can advocate on your behalf to increase funding for the parks. Duh. As for those who complained that they couldn't "commune with nature:" this is a STATE PARK! People will come here with their loud dogs and even louder kids. You want peace and quiet? I can recommend many backwoods camping spots in Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. A lot of the sites aren't very quiet or private, so I would recommend doing your research before booking. The 600 loop of Legiontown (the sites that back up to the wildlife preserve especially) are private, shaded, and each have their own little hidden trail that connects to the larger Burlingame Park Trail that goes all through the state park. My only complaint is that the top screen of the woman's bathhouse door was missing last summer and again this summer. Not a huge deal, but should be an easy fix, no? Also, the camp store had the strangest hours (that were not posted anywhere). We found ourselves having to go into Westerly for ice and firewood multiple times. I cannot wait to come back later this summer, and every summer after that.

I have camped at at least 100 campgrounds across the U.S. and no one else has made me stand at the desk and wait until the clocked ticked to 1 p.m. to be allowed into the campground. As I stood waiting several other people came in and were refused. 12:47 ... 12:55 ... A woman was trying to check in to her own site around 12:45 and they made her buy an $8 pass to go to her brother's site because she had to get in to see him before 1. A man asked if he could drive his 83 year old mom through for old times sake because she used to camp here as a kid and they said no unless he rented a site. I understand rules and policies but it's ridiculous. This campground has no hookups, has been closed and/or not taking reservations for quite some time, and isn't free! A little leniency would go a long way here.

There are also a number of interpretive signs that convey some of the history and current uses of the buildings. There are a number of war monuments and some cool sculptures. We especially enjoyed the sculpture "The Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown. Love that the park was founded by a woman, Harriet Wilcox. Opposite the park, there is a nice mural with her image and apparently a quote by her "The People Shall Have Their Park". Respect. The park is open dawn to 9pm. Street parking.

Magnificent and striking specimens, the tree species are labeled throughout. There are many meandering walkways to choose from so no worries about back-tracking already-trodden paths. Finally, the library is not only a lovely building to behold, but also a nice area to rest one's heels and indulge in an outdoor lunch among its garden beds and benches. Definitely a wonderful and attractive asset to the town of Westerly and its residents.

I purchased a paddleboard at The Kayak Centre 4 years ago. My experience then (and a few other…read moretimes since then for smaller purchases), was so great that even though I've moved to Cape Cod (1.5 hour drive away), when I was in the market for a kayak, I came back to The Kayak Centre. I called ahead and got excellent information and recommendations, and as I requested, they had the boats I wanted to try available when I came to check them out a couple of days later. I checked the boats out in the store and then did the in-water demo to try one of them out. You do have to pay for this, but I guess it makes sense as a bit of insurance in case you scratch or damage the boat and then don't end up buying it. And if you do buy the boat, they apply it to your total, so if you're serious about making a purchase, it's low-risk. I then looked at several accessories (new paddle, PFD, paddle float, skirt, roof rack, etc) and got a lot of great advice and information. They installed the roof rack I purchased and taught me tips on how to load and unload the boat on my own. Before this trip, I did shop around for a kayak and the attention and service I received at The Kayak Centre - from owner to seasoned employee to new employee to the waterfront staff to the installation guy, the service was amazing. They don't work on commission and are actual paddlers themselves, so you get real information and they customize the tips based on you personally. There were a few accessories that I was unsure about that they actually talked me out of buying. I could not be happier with my purchase and the service I received! I went into the store on a Friday afternoon in June and there was a steady flow of other customers, but I never felt like the staff was too busy or were rushing me. If you have as many questions as I did, I'd recommend avoiding the weekends, especially in the summer, because I'd bet they are really busy!

Dams stones and…read moreguns The Burlingame Wildlife Management Area is often confused with the Burlingame Campground and the Burlingame State Park. The Wildlife Management Area is north of the state park and is a complete different place The Management Area has about 1,400 acres of wetland, open fields, ponds, streams and deciduous and evergreen trees. All kinds of critters live here including foxes, raccoons, rabbits, coyotes, wild turkey, grouse, deer, beaver and lots an lots of bugs. The area has some scruffy old dirt roads going through it and some small paths but nothing is well marked and you kind of have to make your own way through the woods at times. Lots of cool old foundations and the remains of at least three old dams. The land was obviously well used in the past centuries and probably had some mills and farms on it. One thing to be very aware of is that although hunting is never allowed in Burlington State Park and campground it is allow in here during certainly months of the years so bright orange is absolute necessity. Burlingame Wildlife Management Area is a nice place to see some lovely trees and ferns, cool critters and the remains of old stuff build by humans that have now faded into the past.

The instructors crank up the heat during yoga classes that are not designated at heated classes. There is no way to tell which classes will be heated ahead of time and there is no way to email the center to ask questions about the classes because the online "contact us" form on the website is designed so you can't read what you are writing. The people at the desk don't know anything about the classes. The new online calendar is difficult to even find classes and there is no longer a printable class schedule. Not so zen lately. Hope it gets better!
