***UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT within the last week*** I read previous reviews and saw some negative ones. The new management seems to have stepped things up. I could not put into words how GREAT Wawaloam campground. Sometimes when you visit a campground it feels like you are staying in a parking lot. This is AMAZING. The sites are spacious and incredibly maintained. It is beautiful. Trees and grassy area everywhere. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. There are things for the kids to do. There is a pool, water slide, splashpad, minigolf, big playground and plenty of room for the bike riding. The property is well layed out. For those not traveling with children there is an area that was by us that was 55 and older. The location is not that far from Newport (which is where we were visiting) and Providence. We were only there for 3 days would highly recommend this location. We will be back again and for a much longer time. read more

Unfortunately we caught the end of the season so the activities were all over or closed for the season & Wi-Fi was only available at the store/laundromat or the Pavilion which were both closed for the season or had shortened hours. Not to mention the site that we were given for our 34' trailer was a back in & my husband was misdirected in doing so and ended up blowing out our rear view window of our truck which cost us an additional $600 to our already $900 bill for the site. read more

This was our second camping trip here at Wawaloam Campground our first being last season 2021. Both visits have been absolutely enjoyable! Check-in is at 3pm. We arrived around 3:30pm and although there were three other campers waiting ahead of us, Wawaloam's chick-in system allowed for a quick and smooth check-in process. From start to finish we were at our campsite within 10-15 minutes! Our camp site had a paved area for our travel trailer which made backing in and leveling out a breeze. We had a corner site just across from the playground with plenty of grass to allow room to spread out and enjoy grilling and playing corn hole. Our site had water hook up and 30 amp for electricity. While the electricity was enough for us to stay cool with our air conditioning you definitely have to use the bare minimum electrically as we found some lights to be much dimmer when turned on than normal. It's been a very hot and humid summer so air conditioning was really our only major need for electricity and that did work efficiently. Our site unfortunately didn't have sewage which would've been a major bonus but at the time of booking this was the only site able to accommodate our size Trailer so we jumped on it. They do offer a dump station located in the stores parking lot so we were able to dispose of our sewage that way. The dumpsters for trash removal are also located in the stores parking lot. The store has lots to offer including fresh ice cream and iced coffee. This campground has lots of to offer their campers one of our favorites being the water slides! We don't have young children but the water slides are open to all ages which is awesome for us adults who are still young at heart! The pool is pretty large which is nice because you're able to space out and not feel like you're going to bump into other swimmers. There is also a little outdoor water park, a playground and mini golf course. On Saturday evening they had an adults only New Year party with a live band that we were planning on attending but had family come visit for a day pass and decided to hang out at our site instead. This park is family friendly so you can expect to see lots of children running around enjoying their youth. While it's asked of campers not to cut through other peoples sites we found that our location was a bit of a magnet in regards to that and found that the children used it often as a cut through but we didn't mind. The kids were respectful and would simply quickly cut through without standing around. While there are plenty of rules to be followed here we were pleased to see that the staff wasn't to hard up on quiet hours which are from 11pm-8am.... My husband and I were able to sit outside past 11pm respectfully with our music playing quietly and playing card games without anyone coming by to tell us to wrap it up. Overall the campground is pretty quiet once the sun goes down. Check-out was just as smooth as check-in. We hope to visit again next season and highly recommend this campground to other campers. read more

My husband camped here his whole life. This is my second time camping here and absolutely love it. Great sites and staff has been great! Can't wait to be a seasonal so we can come more often. Great place for the grand babies to come visit and family too. Well kept and lots to do. Waterslides, pool, puttputt, nice playground, and a pond to catch a fish or two. oh, and there's no charge for you or your guest to go on the slides or enjoy the other amenities. They do book up fast, so that's the only thing I would recommend - book early. read more

lots of stuff for kids. the spaces are spacious and lots of trees for shade. we had a full hookup site which was convenient but that's where the conveniences ended. The site was extremely difficult to back in to due to the placement of large rocks at the entrance of the site. they offer no trash pickup, no cable, and no WI-FI. Make sure you check your junk mail for all communications from this campground. You book a year in advance just to get an email in your junk mail to pay in full and are given less than 2 days to do so. Then when you don't notice said "important email", they'll cancel your reservation WITHOUT even bothering to call you. This place is so mismanaged it isn't funny. Join the 21st century and get an online booking system so you don't have extremely disappointed kids that have to suffer because of this gross mismanagement. I hope some big corporation buys them out and fixes this sh*t show. read more

I really enjoyed our stay here in August 2018. It is so quiet here and probably the most beautifully kept campground I have been to. The store was handy and there was a free comedy show which was not very good but a valiant attempt at free entertainment. Everyone we dealt with as far as staff goes was lovely and kind although we had little contact with them. I was apprehensive about that because of what I had heard about the management. No problems here. I have to say that I was called a "transient" by a seasonal camper. Maybe that is typical but it sounded derogatory to me. We prefer to travel around and try different places. We live on a farm and would stay home if we wanted to stay in one place in the country. I did think that we would be getting cable so my husband could watch the news but although there was a hookup and we were charged in the fee for it, no luck. Large site with many amenities for kids and relaxing for adults. Will definitely be back. read more

I was forced to cancel a reservation during Covid due to travel restrictions placed on me by my employer. I was offered a refund or credits and I chose credits because I did not want to harm a local business during the pandemic. When I tried to use my credits I was told they had expired, but I was never told they had an expiration date. In fact, the email from staff states: "You don't have to decide right now, we would just hold it on your account. When you do decide to make reservation, just remind us you have the credit. Is that what you want to do?" I made 4 attempts at this point to resolve this with the business but they refuse to work with me in any way. All I wanted was to be able to use my credits that I paid for. I wish they would have told me there was an expiration date so I could have used these credits. This is the first and only time I have had such a negative experience with a campground. I would NOT recommend this campground to anyone. There are much better options available. read more

This campground is absolutely beautiful, the trees & grounds are really very nicely kept. The sites are spaced out perfectly with plenty of room, you will not feel on top of each other no matter what spot you choose. The pool is nice & roomy but bring your own chairs to sit on, the campground does have them but are not putting them out, maybe when this covid is over they will. There's also the two slides that are fun & run a few hours a day from about 10-3. This is a great campground but don't expect your kids to be wowed by camp run activities or fun events. We stayed for 2 weeks including the 4th of July & there wasn't much more than a scavenger hunt on a Sunday morning. Over all a nice campground where you feel safe letting your kids ride their bikes or walk to the store. I definitely recommend this campground to families looking to relax, feel safe & spend quality time together. read more

This campground is decent for camping. Nothing too impressive about it. My biggest issue is the staff. I encountered 3 different staff members and all three were extremely rude to me. Definitely will not be returning. This is my first trip here and will be my last. I normally stay at Normandy farms in foxboro ma. It's way nicer there and the staff members are all very polite. THANKS A LOT, PSYCHO It was a sticky mid-summer's night in 1991 - July the 21st to be exact. How do I remember? No, how could I forget? I would usually spend nights such as this watching the game in my grandparents' in-law apartment, right downstairs. My grandfather would rant on about how much these guys were bums, while cracking open shell after shell of dry-roasted resplendence. As should be expected, my grandmother would go through with her, "banana? pie? cake? cookie? apple? ice cream?" routine. Unfortunately, the first-listed and most fancied of these snacks was not, at least on this particular night, readily available. I was spending the week away with my family. That is to say, most of my family - my grand parents would stay home for these types of excursions. We were on an outdoor getaway in West Kingston, RI at a reservation, if you will, known as Wawaloam Campground. With it's on-sight Speedstick-peddling convenience store and copiously-chlorinated "L-shaped" pool - whose winding slide gave serious shocks every time someone dared to take a ride down - it's quite safe to say that we were far from roughing it. Despite the ground's impressive amenities, my only real connection to the outside world was made possible by a tiny, red transistor radio my grandfather had given me. I had packed it up with other homey essentials: Tiger Force Duke & Bazooka (and naturally, Tiger Paw, the GI Joe all-terrain-vehicle) as well as these nifty, neon green swim trunks, whose inner-lining I had carefully cut out (even as a youngster I paid special attention to the sensitivity of my private region). This was a most memorable evening, made possible by a series of events that I was only able to hear through the minuscule, black speaker (yes, speaker, singular, as in monaural). The sox were on and my 10-year old anxiety was running high - how could this be? It just wasn't fair.. I couldn't stop myself from frantically pacing about. There I was neurotically climbing in and then back out of my dad's musty, mold-ridden 1973 pop-up camper - as if performing some form of Woody Allen-esque ritual of futility. And it wasn't even due to the fact that the general store was completely out of those gosh-darn gratifying goobers. Jack Clark couldn't even get them out of this jam. The Twins had gotten a hold of Bolton early on. The bullpen lacked anything in way of relief. Morton, Lamp, Fossas. Even more runs. Kiecker? Spent. Joe Morgan - at wits end. And then something quite magical happened. I couldn't see it beyond my mind's eye, but what was announced next, filled me with an indescribable surge like I had never felt before (only to be eclipsed some three years later when I finally "discovered myself" for the first time). As per his unrivaled knack, Bob Star described things in such acute detail: our fair skipper had come out to the mound once again, yet no one was up in the pen. He took up the ball, did an about-face and haphazardly gestured towards the outfield. As if struck by the spirit of Freddie Lynn, this absolute enigma of a being emerged from the mist of his center field post and dutifully trotted to his manager's side, where he proceeded to take warm-ups. Psycho was a player's-player who had impressively defended in all of the other 8 positions was about to run things in the #1 slot!! "Alright bud, its about time you hit the sack", I was then told by my Ma - just my luck. "What would He do?", I thought. Not to be outdone by my new-found, heroic do-gooder, I took one for the team and respectfully obliged - "phhheeearrsh-click" and I too tuned out for the day. Sox lost 14-1. He didn't stay with the club much longer, but he DID show me what it really meant to be part of the greatest professional sports fan-base in the civilized world - Red Sox Nation. So, for taking my mind off how much better the game would have been had I been able to enjoy it with my grandparents over Sprice (sic) and peanuts, I thank you Steve Lyons. And to the management at Wawaloam Campgrounds, I extend my most sincere appreciation for providing lower-middle-income families with accessible excursions. read more

First you get charged just to use you AC, (comes in all other camps I been to) second, cant use washer or dyer that in my motorhome (again I have been able to in any other camp I go to) three, you mat that you put down on the ground can only be so big? (again we can use any size in other campgrounds) although this looks like it could be fun place to visit, why bother when there are so many restrictions. Wawaloam is great! Friday night dinners at the pavilion - best clamcakes I have ever had. The owners are constantly making improvements to the facilities and sites. Everyone who works there is more than pleasant. I am a long time Wawaloam fan. Regarding Dan A's comment - I know for a fact the owners are there 24/7 during camping season, not in Florida. If you're looking for a place to swim and fish with large sites and well kept grounds, then you've come to the right place. We enjoy time spent with family and allow kids to be kids WITHOUT lots of organized activities! Paved roads are great for walking and biking. And who doesn't love ice cream every night! RUDE STAFF RUINED TRIP! Beautiful campground, their mixup on dates prevented us from having the nice site but accommodated us in the open field, Safari Area, was so peaceful! Well kept, but nickel and dimed you! Sites without sewer are common but mobile service available, great $20. But $20 on Mon or Thurs, $35 any other time. Visitors were held captive at gate until you paid$13 per day, per person...for what? Sternly told that was only until noon for overnight guests. Great recreational pool, big slide etc but not included in rental rate. Won't go back because you felt like you were intruding. Will look for another location next year, love that area and Newport. read more

We stayed for a week last month while we were in town visiting family for a funeral. The grounds and sites are very nice. As some of the other reviewers said, they have a ridiculous amount of rules. Biggest complaint is that they nickel and dime you for everything. The fees to camp there are not low , which we are okay with if it's well maintained. But then they charge again for a shower, mini golf, $20 per child on the water slide, and $5 per visitor just to come in. Now I mentioned we were visiting family. My brother and his wife and three kids came to hang out for a couple hours and it costs them $25 to walk in!!! That's unbelievable. $5 per family may be reasonable, but $5 per person, including small children, is just greedy. We were willing to pay the $20 each child for them to ride the water slide but the first time we tried, it was closed. Then the next time, there was a lady there who assured my older kids it was open, so we suited up the young ones and came back (15 minutes tops) and guess what? She shut it down tight!!! How rude is that. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to save the $ but my kids were disappointed. There's a KOA near our house whose rates are similar but the amenities are included. This place is a nice campground physically, but we are not fans of being charged to enjoy anything other than the site. read more

I am a seasonal camper, and have found this to be a Great campground! Big sites, Pool and water slides, mini golf. Plenty of kid and adult activities. Fourth of July weekend was awesome. Bonfire with music and laser lights, plus fireworks - Well done. Next week, Christmas in July - decorations are going up everywhere. Then, New Years Eve party, October Halloween trick or treating, etc. The pavilion has great food (Friday nights and Sunday brunch only). Camp store - finger foods, ice cream, groceries. Wawaloam Campground, owned and operated by the Smith Family. Rules, Rules, and more Rules... I strongly urge avoiding this campground if you would like to avoid feeling like you are walking on egg shells your entire visit! Here are a few reasons we encountered during our visit for you to consider into your plans: 1. Unable to view the campgrounds website prior to our 2012 Memorial Day weekend arrival, due to virus warnings from my antivirus software if enter their site. 2. Found a note on the door of our RV in the morning, informing us our RV entrance mat was not regulation size and to remove it immediately. So many other nicer ways they could have handled this. 3. Inconsistent enforcement of rules observed, as other RV entrance mats where just as large if not larger than ours. 4. No chairs provided for your comfort at the pool, waterslide or mini golf area's to relax and watch your children from. 5. $20 per child for the use of the waterslide. No discounts offered, therefore expensive especially for a family with 4 children! 6. Unable to enter the mini golf area, unless you also pay, to assist your children play and keep score. 7. Children without a helmet not permitted to ride their bikes. Campground does not provide nor sell helmets. 8. Unable to reuse the same plate at the breakfast buffet to go through again. Must wait in a entirely different line for a new plate, first. 9. Children are not allow to have more than 1 bingo card to play candy bar bingo. 10. Must be under 18 yrs old to play candy bar bingo. 11. Our campsite was located among other weekend RV's parallel to a row of seasonal RV's where the seasonal residents, on Saturday morning Memorial Day weekend, where out with their motorized lawn mowers, leaf blowers and hedgers. Very unpleasant and noisy! 12. Out of 300 campsites, only approx. 20 have sewer hook-ups. Inconvenient. 13. Upon arrival after checking in at the office, pulled the car into our assigned campsite for ease of unloading into the RV. Before I had the opportunity to even shut the car off or open the car door, I was abruptly approached by the owners, aggressively driving up on me in their golf cart, scolding me "I can't park there, only one vehicle per site, you need to park in a visitors lot"... Not a smile on their faces or in their voices, no hello, no welcome, is this your first time staying with us...! Again, so many other nicer ways they could have handled themselves. 14. I even experienced another Smith family member (female) making a sarcastic remark as I held up my entrance ID at the gate upon re-entry after making a store run. 15. Beware, noticed a Asian long- horned beetle among the bundled firewood purchased from their campground store. 16. Also, the firewood bundles were mixed with old construction 2x4 wood as well. 17. Got the impression, the Smith family's priority is the manicure of their campground rather than with your family or children's enjoyment, quality of stay or convenience. In addition, they want you to get the message, they are policing you and if you don't like it, don't come back! Recommendation: There are plenty of other, more worthy, nicer and welcoming New England campgrounds to visit to call your home away from home for your family's enjoyment throughout the summer! Staff here are natzi rude. They project their entitlement when speaking with them about staying. They have a "if you don't like it, then go f@#k yourself" attitude about their campground. Their point of view is," it's your privilege to pay to stay on our grounds". The sad shame is it's a beautiful place, clean, waterslide ,pool. Unfortunately this family owned staff could give two $#!Ts if you enjoy your stay, ever visit again, or give a bad review. Seems like the condition of the lawn on your site is more important to them than we nuisance customers enjoying our stay. Fortunately there is another campground close by called Normandy campground that is much more professional and courteous​. Go there if you want a better family experience. read more

Good campground and I will give it another chance, but there are a few low points. CONS (see PROS below) FIRST, It is extremely odd that around the pool there are no chairs or tables to sit at, you must drag your own chairs from your campsite to sit and watch your kids swim. This is crazy, I never seen anything like this in 30 plus years of camping. I couldn't believe it when I walked in to the pool area and was only a swimming pool and nothing else. SECOND, they charge for showers. It's not cheap to stay here, so you would think showers would be included. I think it's kind of sleezy and cheap to charge for a shower. I'm surprised they didn't have pay toilets. THIRD, they give you a digital converter box for one tv. My camper had 2 tv's so that was disappointing. FOURTH, they charge $20 per child to use the water slide. This gets crazy expensive with multiple kids for multiple days. They also charge for mini golf. FIFTH, we stayed here in the middle of July and they had NO ACTIVITIES that week. The woman at the check in booth told us they had no activities because it was a "down week". She said next week they had more activities. How can there be a "down week" during peak season with peek prices. I wish they told me when I booked or discounted the slide that week. The only activity was a pickup basketball game that no one showed up to. How can you not have candy bar bingo? There appeared to be no recreation hall either. SIXTH The bathroom near the front gate was disgusting, loaded with spiders. We joked that when a cleaning crew went in... they were restocking the spiders. One time we timed the cleaning crew on how long it took to clean both bathrooms...they did it in under 5 minutes. (Note the other bathroom was cleaner) SEVENTH Very buggy compared to other campgrounds. Mosquitos were pretty bad. PROS Alright, now the good stuff. FIRST, This is a beautiful campground with stunning wooden site. The sites are absolutely HUGE. These are the biggest sites I've seen in a long time. Very nice. SECOND, they have one of the best stores with really cool stuff. My kids loved the soft serve ice cream with a variety of swirl flavors they add to the ice cream. They also have hard ice cream. The prices are very reasonable. THIRD. Tons of additional parking throughout the campground. FOURTH. Nice paved roads throughout, great for bike riding. FIFTH. Friendly staff and campers. It was a great atmosphere with a lot of very friendly people. SIXTH Excellent basketball court. Very large and enclosed. My kids loved playing there. read more

This is a lovely retreat. It's not the prime season where I am sure the pool. slides, etc would be great for families. But, it's clean, tranquil and each space seems very serene and surrounded by trees. Bathrooms are clean. Laundry area is nice--washers/dryers brand new-- and the owner was very friendly. Be prepared for a bit of a hike to the showers, laundry, dumpster and dumping station, though. The property is very spread out because the lots are large, so convenience is not the top concern, here. If you are looking for a quiet place with lots of natural beauty (a large beautiful pond, babbling brooks, beautiful paths and a forest setting) we have seen no place nicer. read more

I am excited for another Independence Day celebration at wawaloam. I cum here every season just for the Independence Day weekend. The rumors are true showers are the best gay cruising spots. My friends and I refer to this weekend as "Woodstock cumfesival" it truest lives up to its reputation of being LGBT friendly. Only downside is they do let kids stay and play during the daytime which is why I gave 3 stars. Once the kids are asleep let cumfest begin. The campground is beautiful with large sites. My wife and I stayed there for two weeks. My only issue is that my son and his pregnant wife came to join us for two nights on July 3rd and 4th. My son stopped and got a visitor pass as per park rules. They spent the night in our RV but in the morning my wife was accosted by the owner who said that overnight guests were not allowed on July 3 and 4. My wife apologized and said that we did not know about the rule (which we did not) but was told that we certainly "did know the rule." The owner was rude and disrespectful. I went to the office and offered to pay for 2 additional adults for our entire stay (which is allowed) but was told by the young worker that she could not do that or she would get in trouble. I asked to speak with the owner but was told she was not available. I asked that she please call me, but she did not call back. I called later that afternoon and asked again that the owner call me-but she never did. I am still waiting for the call. Unfortunately I will not go back to Wawaloam because of the rudeness of the owner and the fact that she does not even have the courtesy to return a phone call. It is ironic that we are called liars on July 4th. My son is a Veteran of the Iraq conflict (marines) and his wife is 8 months pregnant..... The owner is clearly on a power trip - the complete "rules" were not made available to us and yet we are called liars. As of today, the rules listed on the website for Wawaloam still make no mention of the prohibition of guests on holiday weekends. read more

This was our first stay at Wawaloam this past weekend. Not overly impressed at all. Of the appropriate childrens activities scheduled the ages were for 2-6. We have a 7 year old. She had nothing to do for activities all weekend, except for an indoor petting zoo with very few animals :( The pool area is decent, although there are no chairs provided so be sure to bring your own. Our site was not very clean upon arrival and mostly dirt with no grass. Full hook-up sites Do NOT include cable and wi-fi is available , but only in certain spots. It was still difficult to connect. Sadly we won't be returning. Back to Normandy for us! read more

Just got back from a wonderful labor day weekend at Wawaloam!! This campground definitely has it all for kids. They were constantly entertained from the egg toss competitions, wiffle ball games, dance classes, etc... We had thought about taking a ride around the area or to the local beaches, but the kids were having to much fun and didn't want to leave. The sites here are nice and spacious, have great fire pits, and are nice and clean. We have already booked for next year and can't wait! read more

We just stayed here for Memorial Day weekend. We have a travel trailer and we stayed with 3 other families so they were able to put us close together which was nice. The campground was very nice as far as clean with a friendly staff. I felt like this was a very family friendly place to camp. Not a lot of late night noise and shady characters wandering around like I have seen at other places. I have 3 young children who enjoyed the pool and new splash pad. There was an additional fee for the slides which at first was something I did not want to do, but I caved and my kids absolutely had a blast on them. We got our moneys worth. We paid $10 each for unlimited rides. I think they had just the right amount of activities for the kids to do without it being overwhelming to keep up with them. Our weekend they had a petting zoo, a magic show and a dance to name a few. The only complaint I have is the lack of sewer sites available. They only have a few and they are always booked up. One thing to note is you have to pay to use the showers too, but it is not a lot and they are quite clean. I definitely will camp here again. We have been looking for a go to place that is not too far away from home. read more

Went to Wawaloom campground this weekend. Beautiful and clean. Nice pool and water slides. Not many planned activities for the kids. Oh and did I mention that the management and owners are rude and disrespectful? Will never return again. read more

The rules are not that difficult to understand or abide by and their rules are on the website and in print when you check in. The fees were reasonable, kids loved the water slides! We have camped here since 2006 and love it! Largest sites we've seen, very mature foliage, landscaping, etc. Tons of amenities pool, water slides, mini golf, recreation hall, pavilion, etc. So many themed weekends and special guests bands, magician, etc. there's almost always something going on. There are so many great people there as well; staff is great, seasonals are great, just an overall awesome place to take the family and proud to give Wawaloam 5 stars. Thanks! read more

Im torn between 3 or 4 stars so Ill stay on the more positive. Our second time here. First time was a few years back in October and we loved it! Sites are huge with great fire pits - it was quiet. Didn't really interact w staff except to but ice and the kids there were all fine. My biggest complaint was the bathrooms. They smelled so bad of mold. They have these plastic grates all over the floor that I don't believe ever get cleaned so its gross- saw staff "clean" the shower which consisted of checking trash and spraying air freshener in the air. It was close to where we wanted to be so we tolerated it. Also our neighbors were so loud! after 11 still smoking pot, playing radio super loud and basically partying. They don't have staff that go through at quiet hour to control it. So maybe if you go in October there are no partiers and the mold has been washed away- but not in august read more

Only two stars for Wawaloam. The grounds were very tidy, we had no complaints about the cleanliness however, the staff was not very pleasant. The kids enjoyed the slide but with the slide and everything else here there is a charge. I would rather pay a bit more for the site rather than paying a fee for everything from the water park to the shower room. Nice roads and mostly back in sites it looked like. read more
