I just found a really nice small apartment for my baby and me, and decided to shop around for electricity quotes online, I filled out what I thought was a quote from Frontier Utilities to check for deposit and stuff, and a few hours later I read an email from them saying my request for service was successful (this was Sunday, April 21st) so I called Monday morning at 9am, spoke to rep 503 and told him what was going on, and he said my request was not successful that AEP had not accepted the request, he told me to disregard the email so I hung up. So today Friday, April the 26th I go to my apartment to continue the move in process and find out I have electricity, so I called AEP and they tell me my service provider is Frontier Utilities, but when I called Monday morning I specifically asked the rep (503) several times if I could get a cancellation email, or how I could make sure that request was cancelled, and he assured me I had nothing to worry about, now with all the bad reviews that I read, I guess I'm gonna have a really hard time dealing with this. I feel cheated on by this company for providing services I didn't request and not cancelling them when I called to clarify the situation, I'm not ready to move in and nobody is at my apartment. read more

I just just drove more than 1500 miles from California to Houston with 2 elderly women. Upon arrival I found out that there is no electricity. The refrigerator is a disaster, it is hot, humid, and now I am dealing with two sick seniors. One of them needs her CPAP machine and the other has an oxygen machine. I started calling Frontier Utilities at 7am Houston time. It is now 7:12pm. I called Frontier 37 times today. They literally hung up on me 19 times. One of the times that I actually was able to speak to someone they told me that they are going to increase my rates because the plan that I had before they erroneously cancelled it was no longer available. That last person that I spoke with at 6:22pm said the manager was going to call me back in one minute. It is now 7:16pm. Frontier should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and their horrendous mismanagement of customer accounts. They already had very bad reviews when I initially checked them out and now I have to unfortunately add yet another. It is clear that this corporation is more than fine with having their employees treat customers poorly. This is not a good business model by no means at all. read more

They just called me in Illinois, threatening that my electricity would be cut off tomorrow if I did not engage them as my electricity supplier. They asked for lots of personal information including my address and phone number, last four digits of my SS # and my account number for current utility. I have reported them to the IL Attorney General' s office and the Better Business Bureau. Although I did not engage their services, I find them shady and with strong-arm business tactics. read more

Got a surprise, my electric bill was going from $140-$170 a month. I renewed my contract with FRONTIER UTILITIES in August. I was shocked when my January electric bill was $438. This is for a two bedroom apartment. I figured some mistake had been made and paid it. This month the electric bill was for $383. I called FRONTIER UTILITIES yesterday. I had to get through two people before I got to a manager. She told me that my usage hadn't changed that much. This is where it got strange. She said that my rates changed in August when I renewed, from 6.3 cents/kilowatt hour to 10.5 cents/kilowatt hour. When I asked why the rates didn't change in August she told me they hadn't changed. I repeated what she had told me the rates were and she agreed that it was correct, but the rates hadn't changed. Now if I sell you a hamburger for $5 this week and $9 next week, and I tell you the price hasn't changed I'm either a idiot or I'm lying. I'm stuck in this contract until August, and you better believe I'll have a new electric provider lined up on July. Until then all I can do is ask you to STAY AWAY FROM FRONTIER UTILITIES. read more

This company is a scam that it said that will help you save big money and yes it is but they will turn around and charge me $50.00 fees. Beware when you sign up for 3 months introductory services from this company. even if you pay fraction of cents more you would be better of signing with NRG or Constellation or other professional companies. When my introductory service ended , I sent them an email that is listed on their site (care@frontierutilities.com) and asked for termination of supply of electricity. They ignored/ never responded to the email and kept pumping electricity at higher charges. I have notified the FTC on their scamming operations. read more

I believe this company to be a fraudulent company. They send emails out with your projected monthly billing amount only to receive bills that are twice the amount that you were expecting them to be based on the emails. (They confirmed this to be true and there are issues with the emailed projected amounts and are "working" on it). When I called to cancel my service, I was told an amount that I would need to pay to get out of my contract. I told them I would call back in two days after getting paid and would pay the full balance. When I called back in two days, the amount had increased by $300. I am currently on hold and recording my conversation with various support personnel. They are each giving different information. Please avoid this company! Your electric bill will be twice your old company and you will not be able to get out without a very big headache and a nice hit to your pocketbook! read more

I dont have this company or do business with them. My only contact with this company has been from getting their little papers on my door every week or so. However, my wife had a horrible experience with someone who was canvassing my area. The guy was rude and cussed out my wife for crumpling up the paper (which we do often but we dont complain). He called her a b*tch. Not cool. HOWEVER, i called and filed a complaint with the number on the paper he left at our door, and i got a fast response from management who actually came to my apartment within and hour and a half to apologize and assure me that something was being done. I appreciated this because although i am not a customer, i was treated with respect and concern and i dont think other companies would do that. The employee may have been a terrible hire on their part, but i am satisfied with the customer service i received. The people who came to my door were very nice and very approachable. I wish I could give ZERO stars. Frontier had a sales person walking around on apartment complex knocking on doors at 6pm on a Saturday night to encourage people to switch energy companies because my current energy company was "overcharging me". The women was very pushy and would keep talking even after I told her I was not interested in changing companies. I should have just went back inside and shut my door but I did not. I ended up pulling up my current energy bill so she could point out numbers to me. She pointed at a number on a graph and said that she could bring it down by 40 cents per kw/hour. Me, knowing nothing about my energy bill, thought she was telling me the truth. So I went ahead and signed up. Later when she was gone I read my energy bill closer and realized that she had showed me the WRONG NUMBER on my bill. She told me that my current rate was at 47 cents per kW hour and that frontier could be my energy supplier and bring that number down to 7 cents. It CLEARLY stated in the bottom of my bill that for someone to offer me a cheaper energy supplier they would have to offer me under 5.3 cents. So, this women lied to me about what the company was offering me, and scammed me into raising my energy bill. I am calling to cancel ASAP. Especially after reading all of these other awful reviews. False Advertising with intent to defraud. In June of 2017, my electric utility contract was coming up for renewal. I received a postcard in the mail from Frontier Utilities advertising a 6.5 cent per kw rate. I had been paying 8.5 cents so made the change on line. Despite being a well educated person who generally pays attention to what I read, I noticed the first couple bills were charging me 13 cents per kw. Upon contacting Frontier in mid August via customer service, I learned that they had put me in a plan that is 6.5 cents if you use 2000 hours for a flat rate of $135 + taxes and fees. My properties (two side by side that I switched at the same time) use only about 1000 hours per month. They claim that their marketing process made the terms clear, but I feel that they are deceptively marketing the 6.5 cent rate and putting customers into plans that they know from past usage will make them much more money. After a good bit of harangue with customer service, they referred me to the renewals department. They said I had been sent the terms I'd agreed to, and that they could go back and research the phone call where I agreed. As I recollect, the transaction was done completely on line with no phone interface. I feel they did not adequately disclose the nature of the contract they offered me. Renewals changed me to a plan that is about 9 cents per kw for the amount of electricity I use, which is more than my former company's renewal offer. I asked Frontier to go back and recomputed the first three bills where I was over charged 13 cents instead of the advertised 6.5, which they declined. I spent about $500 more than I would have if Frontier had helped direct me to their more appropriate plan for my usage. I expect they have many other customers falsely duped into paying much more than advertised for electricity. read more

STAY AWAY! If you are considering Frontier Utilities I would highly discourage it. I am only giving one star because 0 wasn't a possibility. I recently started my service, less than a month in I received a notice of cancellation prior to ever having been sent a bill. I paid it the day it was received and apparently incurred late fees as a result. The next month my bill went from 40$ to 140$ which came as a surprise being as I was out of the country for 2 weeks within that month. I made several attempts to sign in to the online portal to see what was going on with my account, however the site wouldn't recognize my email even though I was receiving weekly email updates of my usage (which came out to around 200 kwh). I tried the forgot password link as well as the register as new, both came back with errors. I then tried looking at the website to see my plan details and somehow now that won't even work. I have the original email from when I signed up and it wasn't anywhere near the rate I'm receiving. I called customer care and the girl couldn't give me any explanation after over an hour on the phone. I called again the next day and spent a half hour on the phone just to be told I couldn't speak to a supervisor that I would be transferred to retention. After waiting on hold another 20 minutes I was hung up on. So my only option now is pay through automated system by phone with no explanation as to why. This company is a sham don't waste your time or money. They did not provide the service I signed up for and their systems don't function as advertised. I am canceling my service and they will not receive another dime from me. read more

Its been a year long nightmare, 1st their salesman lied to me about kilowatt hour rate he would give me, after months i noticed, they finaly agreed to do an investigation of phone call, which good luck on trying to understand their foreign speaking rep. After them hearing taped phone call, agreed i was right, they reimbursed me for their liar employee and said sorry for his deed (guess their salesmen are paid by commission only)i recomended them to my daughter, her 1st month they billed her $13,300, she contacted them, they replied her residence was actually a business, think also it may have something to do with their really cheap payment computers, and thru her fighting about this they eventually sucumbed cancelling the bill down to 200, admitting it was them, but would not pay her bank overdraft fee this caused, and also they fined her for late payment this caused, which common sense says is wrong, but would not cancell fine. You know if we make a mistake like bill late by 1 hour we pay a substantial penalty, they make a $13000 mistake for weeks, and pay nothing to us for compensation.They finaly gave in after months of dissent, also bank finaly saw that it was frontier and advised her to never do business with them again. They told me after a yr of no late payments id get my deposit back, they said it was my choice, check or funds returned to my credit card, I chose card, didnt get money when they promised, so i called them talked with a superviser who spoke with finance dept. who said my card issuer(Netspend) refused to take payment so i angrily and unjustifiably called Netspend, who said according to their records was never notified in any matter from frontier, further more they said its impossible for Netspends system to refuse payment from any source on behalf of the clients..in other words its not only Frontier salelsmen who lie but others in their crooked company Its been well over required months and they refuse to put funds back on credit card, to this day havent done so, I would advise no one to ever trust this so called Co. Trust me you will be so sorry for the aggravation, To this day i believe ive argued on phone with them over 5 hrs in last year on 12 differant topics. There are more discrepancies i dont have space to go into, In my 65 yrs on Earth this is not only worst co. ive ever dealt with, but worst ive heard of...except the criminal ones on the news. Very Disappointed in Frontier Utilities. I have Frontier Communications for Internet so I thought it would be great to do business with both sides of the company. Boy was I ever wrong! I paid my bill on 05/25 and it was due on 05/29. Due to the Holiday on 05/28 Memorial Day, the payment posted 1 day later on 05/30. I received a pink letter in the mail from their collections department threatening to cut off my utilities. I called and asked if it was their policy to send a delinquent notice 1 day after the payment was due much less not consider the holiday and was told yes so I was charged 7.00+ for late fee, $20.00 fee for processing the pink late slip and get this also a $5.00 fee for them to take my payment over the phone. I have NEVER EVER been late and have good credit! They have lost a good customer and I will be moving onto another provider for both of my services when the contact expire. read more

My wife activated Frontier Utility as our primary electricity provider sometime in July 2015. The price per KWH was low in the beginning of the service contract. We paid this amount for several months but then my wife and I divorced and I left the residence in December 2015 and no longer paid the bill and was forced by a court of law not to disconnect any utilities. According to Frontier Utilities, The service was not officially disconnected until January of 2016. They told me that I had a balance over $300, the divorce was unfortunate but that I must pay or that they would report me to a credit bureau. I asked for a itemized breakdown of charges during that time period and asked them to remove any late fees or charges and that I would pay for the services that were used through November. they agreed to cut some but not all and mandated that I pay through January. I begrudgingly agreed to a payment plan to settle the debt that I did not agree with but did use some of the services and felt obligated to settle the debt. After paying the first 2 payments (nearly $100 each) of the settlement, I was called for the final settlement payment and was discussing the final payment which went up from original agreement and that I wanted any additional fees taken off and that it was unfair that I was charged for energy services/Late fees and for a place that I no longer lived and that I was legally not allowed (Divorce-court order) to cancel services in December. The person handling this case starting getting rude, threatened to report me to credit bureaus (Which they already did) and I stated that I have more than met my financial obligation to Frontier Utilities, and I stated for them to go ahead and report this action and stop contacting me at a work number and that they continued to Harass me via work phone. Over the 7 months of service, I was charged over $300 in additional fees/penalties/charges and this does not include small hidden fees in the actual bill. This company has belittled me during a difficult time in my life, their professional courtesy was non-existent and made me feel like a criminal. I asked that my account balance be shown as paid in full based on the funds already paid and for them to stop calling me at work. This company will not work with nor follow through and help the customer even though all energy services have been paid for and satisfied. I am not an expert on electrical supply companies. Apparently, they were chosen as the supplier and when the fixed rate per kw hour ran out in Sept 2016, they told me they sent 2 letters to renew. My bad for not reading the letters. From that point forward, they opted to give me a variable rate. That would've been fine, but I recently found out (by chance because another supply company contacted me for a good kwh rate) that Frontier chose to charge me the highest possible rate per kilowatt hour. PECO states it should be around 7cents, they charged me 12.89cents - almost double - and they did this to me since 2016. I believe they should've made a better effort to let me know. Furthermore, I'm fine with a variable rate - but I'm not fine with them taking advantage of my ignorance when it comes to electrical supply rates. In short, I probably paid $250.00 extra per month for 18 months. They treated my account like an introductory credit card and slapped me with the highest possible rate for kilowatts just because I didn't know - and the worst part is they let it go on! How many other people are in my very same position and don't know? So when choosing electrical supply be CAREFUL. Choose one with no contract, no monthly fee, no termination fee and best to choose a variable rate and compare it to the one that your electric company offers. We had just moved to Texas from out of state due to a job transfer. We enlisted the help of a realtor in finding a rental since we weren't familiar at all with the area. After finally locating a place to rent, we asked about local utilities and this one was suggested to us as a really good one, so...we signed up for a year. In this time, our monthly bill has, literally, doubled - even though nothing has changed in usage, believe me. I paid our bill a day late (I'm usually a week or so early) and was charged a seven or eight dollar late fee, ok- fine, I'll deal with that. A day or two later I received a 'pink slip' for a shutoff notice, even though I had paid the entire, one month only bill a few days before, mind you ONE day late- and they had the nerve to tack on a $20.00 fee for mailing a pink slip!! I couldn't believe it. I called, they took the extra 20 off the bill ('just this once', they said, because 'you didn't know...'), which is fine. But in a few months when our contract is done, so are we. I will NOT go with this company in the future, because it's a complete mystery how a bill can double within a few months when you are doing nothing different than you have done before, when the bill was nowhere near this high. My advice: check around with others who are using various companies, see what they say- at the time we didn't know anyone, we were in a major time crunch, and had nobody to even ask for a comparison- and the one person we did ask from the real estate company no doubt received compensation for suggesting the company. I had used this company for years and still have one account with them. I can't wait until the current contract expires. I will never use them again and never recommend them to any more of my tenants or clients. I had two accounts on one bill that was driving me crazy as they had different due dates. sometimes they would send me one bill with both properties on it and payment due at different times. then they would send me another invoice with the same account number with another due date. the bills were coming to my residence for payment. I called them to have the bill split with different account numbers, but they sent one bill to the vacant property instead of sending it to me as they has been doing. needless to say, payment was never mailed as I never received a bill. when I noticed that the power was turned off, I immediately called them to start new service and ensure they send the invoices to me. then they sent me a final bill with a disconnect fee and termination fee. I called to tell them I did not terminate the service. they failed to send me the invoices. I had paid everything I owed and feel that they should waive the termination fee as they cannot expect payment without a bill. they refuse to waive it even though they admitted that sending the bill to a vacant property was their fault. I explained that the property is 50 min away and the mailbox must be accessed with a key given out by the post office to the tenant. I cannot access the mailbox. they are heartless. They rather loose a good paying customer who has been with them over 15 yrs and have paid them thousands of dollars than to waive a $100 termination fee that was caused by their mistake. companies like this does not deserve loyal customers. I wonder what their shareholders think about their SOP, standard operating procedures. read more

customer service from this company is terrible .I got a call from frontier saying that i qualify for a electric thermostat . I had no issue with my ac/heater unit until they sent a tech to install their electric thermostat that I found out $380.00 later out of my pocket that he did not know what he was doing he fried their thermostat and the power wire that runs from the thermostat to the computer on my unit had to call a ac/heater company to fix a problem I never had . frontier obviously don't screen the company's they use to install their products I had a new electric thermostat . previously in which I told them I had no problems with they insisted there's was better than my Honeywell . I should have followed my first mind and keeped my Honeywell installed . called them to get reinversed and they keeped putting me on hold until the phone hung up. I called their corporate office got a computer was asked to leave a message and a call back number .did that serveral times and got no call back or responce . I am changing company's immediately and I am going to sue and get my $380.00 back why should I have to pay for your error . What I do know is they bothered us with phone calls, calling once a day, for two weeks straight, waking up our infant son while he was napping, pretending they wanted to talk to me (they didn't dare to call me at work). I asked two of their workers to put us on a do not call list; the first one put me on hold for 15 minutes, the second one promised she would ... and then we got yet ANOTHER HARASSING phone call the next day. I thought I did my homework by reading reviews for this company. I'm a realist, and understand that pleasing every single customer is unlikely, if not impossible. So, I fell for their low rates, dismissing the few poor reviews as being made by those who simply can't be satisfied. A few days after signing up online, I received a notice from my former electricity provider, which confirmed I was changing providers. So far, so good. I waited for the bill from Frontier to arrive in the mail. After approximately one month without receiving a bill, I started thinking I should call and check on it. Before I could do so, I received a call from a representative at Frontier, with whom my wife spoke. The representative told her that the bill had been returned by the postal service, indicating it was "Undeliverable". The rep told my wife the mailing address they had on file, which was our physical address, where we do not receive mail. She then gave our P.O. Box# to the rep, explaining to him that that was our mailing address. The rep repeated the address back to my wife, which she confirmed to be correct. Approximately one hour later, she received another phone call from Frontier. The rep began with the same explanation, that the bill had been returned undeliverable. She then told the rep that she spoke with someone else about one hour earlier. The rep explained that he did not see anything in his notes. My wife again gave our mailing address, to which the rep replied, "Oh, that was me! Now I remember! Yes,here it is right here, and gave the correct PO Box." So again, we waited for a bill to arrive in the mail. Two days later, I got three missed calls from Frontier, but I was not able to call back until after hours. Next day was Sunday, and they were closed. Monday, power was disconnected. I called and spoke with customer service, who attempted to explain that several late notices and disconnect notices had been mailed. The rep gave the PO Box # and it was incorrect. Well, they may have been mailed, but I can't confirm that, because they were MAILED TO THE INCORRECT POST OFFICE BOX!! The rep has allegedly corrected the mailing address, and I paid the bill over the phone. I've been sitting in the dark for almost an hour, fuming over having my power disconnected because of their mistakes. Is there a negative start rating?!?!?!
